1.
It doesn't matter that less people would buy the CD if they could get copies. There's all sorts of things people can do so they don't have to buy things and make others profit. People can make their own clothes, or grow their own crops, but the government doesn't force us to buy from those who make a living off selling these things. I know you're again going to mention that the music is the artist's intellectual property, but as I already said, I think that the recording is yours and you should be able to do what you want with it. Even if it results in less sales for the record company and the artist.
Well the thing is, when you make your own clothes, grow your own crops, make a desk like you mentioned... That takes work and effort. Copying a song to hand out takes little to no effort whatsoever. Now if you were take the time to play and record the song yourself then hey, I wouldn't say a word, since that would have taken effort on your part beyond pushing a few buttons on your computer. Also, unlike clothing and food, music is a want not a need. You need clothing and food to survive, you don't need music. It's a luxury item. Where for the artist, that's their income, it's how they can afford to buy things like clothing and food. Or even the supplies they would need to do so if they chose to make that themselves. It's easy to think it's no big deal when the one not getting paid isn't yourself. James - I agree, I've downloaded something before, but then I had purchased the item in question and was merely waiting for the CD's to arrive. Which since I ordered them from Japan, it took a while. Naturally once they arrived I removed the songs since the original copy was far better. 2007DigitalBoy - I certainly think the system could use some sort of system so people can sample the music as you are suggesting. I like to know what I'm getting too. It's part of the reason I do listen to samples of stuff I order from overseas. I use youtube a lot for that kind of thing actually. Especially since it's more expensive to get things from other countries and I want to be sure that I really want to pay for it.
 2.
When people try to defend their loathsome quirks, not only are they denying what makes them, well, them, they just end up deluding no one but themselves. Downloading music easy, is convenient, it's free, it's wrong. I'll live with it.
Well I wouldn't say it's loathsome, but I do agree that it's pointless to try and make it seem right and justified when it's not. But at the same time I'm not going to condemn someone over it either. XP
I personally believe that companies should simply sell mp3s or CDs and pay the artist royalties as usual, because they are making money off them. But I don't think there should be laws against making copies of CDs or mp3s unless people are reselling them. I believe the copyrights should only apply to the money-making aspect of music (or books, videos, software, etc). If people want the original CD with the CD label and the high quality recording, they will pay for it. If they can obtain a free version by copying or downloading from someone, they should be allowed to do so.
I was with you until you got to this point. And I can't say that I agree. Even if you aren't making any profit by spreading those copies around, you are still essentially robbing the artists. Who's going to bother to buy the CD's if they know they can simply get a free copy? I can see making one for yourself, but to hand out to friends? No deal. That's still wrong. Even if you're not reselling it. Because in the end, the song doesn't belong to you, the music isn't yours in the sense that you have the right to turn around and give it to someone else.
 3.
I don't see why that can't make sense. Something people hate aspects of an anime show, or rather anime in general, because of something it represents. I personally hate the moe subfandom, because it's basically a bunch of submissive and vulnerable girls who sit around being cute, or whatever. And I hate most female representations in anime, so I think that justifies me hating some anime shows.
And I still see no reason why it should make sense for someone to actually hate a show. There are lots of shows out there that I find distasteful and don't care for, in more than just anime. Though I've yet to see a whole lot of anime. I simply think it's a waste of my time to hate something like an anime show that isn't even real but just a make believe story. The best example I could give, and I know it's not anime, is the re-make of Battlestar Galactica. I do not like it at all and think they took a show and essentially trashed it in the name of being melodramatic and soap opera-ish, just to get fans and ratings. Still, I don't hate it. Because doing so is a waste of my time really. Especially when all I have to do is quit watching a show if I don't care for it. And most especially when it's easy enough to hunt around and find something that I do like, in both regular shows and anime. I never watch something I don't care for long enough to actually hate it. And while we are at it. By no means am I saying someone shouldn't hate a show, I'm only saying that to me, it makes no sense. But then I've yet to run into something I truly hate, but then like I said, I never stick around for the rest if I don't like it to begin with.
 4.
@ DigitalBoy - Haha! Thank you for the enthusiasm! I truly appreciate the kind words. I'm based out of Park City, Utah (as it says on the Myspace page), but me and the live group would be playing our shows in Salt Lake City.
Park City, Utah huh? I've only been there a few times, but it's a nice town. :) It's a pity that metal isn't my thing since I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. lol Oh and the reason I'm posting at all? I went and checked out your myspace account as well as the songs you have posted up at the other ones listed. My biggest turn off to metal is the vocal aspect but that's not worth getting into since that's a preference and not an indication of what the song is really like. Out of everything, the music for both Enthroned by Winter and Autumn Withering were the ones I found the most fun to listen to. Especially that bit of a light melody you run into about 1:45 to 1:55 into Enthroned by Winter. And Mead was definitely a very different twist, at least in regards to the other songs. One that I rather liked. Overall, you've got some nice music posted at your sites. And as you already know I like the other stuff by October Falls. It's a pity that metal bands don't release more instrumental versions without the singing, or do they and I'm just not aware of it since I don't really pay attention to this type of music? Because that style of singing is what turns me off to metal more than anything. Not the actual music since many of them are quite talented. I just can't get past that singing. XP
 5. Another thing that makes me feel old is winter. We had our first snowstorm, or rather storm where we actually got snow in the valley last night and instead of feeling excited over it like I use to as a kid, I'm sighing over the loss of the warmer weather. I've gotten where I hate the colder weather, well other than for a few activities that is. But other than skiing, the other stuff doesn't require cold weather or snow.
 6.
I just don't like spyware.
That's another reason why I avoid downloading. One of my roommates decided to take it upon himself to download stuff without asking, by the time he got done, I had so much crap on my computer that it took quite a while to get rid of it. That was last year though and now that fool is no longer my roommate.
 7. Well I'm currently listening to Eine kleine Nachtmusik by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, here's a link though I'm listening to my own copy instead of what's on youtube. Music Oh and this is only the first movement... Which is why I'm listening to my own copy. lol Chances are you've heard this before since it's very well known. Also it's a fun piece to actually perform. Mozart has a very crisp precision to his music that I enjoy.
 8. I can understand not liking an anime, but actually going to the point of hating it? That just makes no sense really. XP There is plenty of stuff I don't care for but I certainly don't hate it. It's just a difference of preference really. Sure I might think it's stupid, but obviously it can't be that stupid or people wouldn't like it. Like Naruto. Those endless filler episodes turned me off, but it doesn't make the show stupid or give me reason to truly hate it. I would though if given a chance, simply trim out all the extra episodes since I did enjoy it at first. Oh and I'd only trim them out of my own collection, if others want to watch the fillers, who am I to deny them that? lol
 9.
No one notices when you give it to a friend though, so that law is an easy swerve.
That's not the point though, it's the mentality of thinking there's nothing wrong with doing so. ;) Take John for example, he downloads stuff but it's not because of saying the artist or music company can get by just fine, but more because it's one of the only ways he can get the music. And, yeah, it's pretty common to share music with your friends. In all honesty, if it's something that one can't go out and buy anymore I can and will make a copy. But if they can buy it... I usually shove them in the direction of the nearest store. But then I'm an adult and I don't like people expecting me to share what I worked hard for and paid for. If they really want it that bad, they can go and get a job so they can pay for it themselves. I find friends who would 'freeload' off of what I've bought downright annoying at times.
 10.
As for personal copies being illegal. I say big *** whoop. So I want an extra copy! I'm not selling it for profit. And if my friend's don't have money, or just want to experiance a band for the first time without wasting money for something they hate, I say give them a copy. No harm done. And for some artists with fame in abundance, they can go without $15-25.
I can guarantee you that if you were that artist and you knew lots and lots of people were essentially screwing you over since they felt like you were fine because you had fame. You wouldn't be saying that. It's easy to make a claim like that when you are not the one who is doing without. That kind of thinking is shortsighted and just another justification for stealing. Obviously if you're downloading music without permission and without paying it's illegal and just plain stupid to rip someone else off when you know damn well that if someone was cheating you, then you'd likely be upset over it. No one likes to be ripped off by others who just want something for nothing. I do agree that making your own copy of a CD for your own use shouldn't be illegal, but making copies for your friends should. That's still giving someone else the music who didn't pay for it.
 11.
Boy, I wonder what a Jehova's Witness would actually say about this thread. O_o My sis is a Jehova actually, and she's pretty fun. Don't see the big deal about them. Mormons bug me more.
Prem... Do you even know anything about Mormons? lol In that respect Odin M Yggdrasi is correct about guilt silencing them. Mormon teenagers masturbate too though many of my friends I grew up with would lie and say other wise since they knew admitting to it would get them in trouble. Though whether or not they actually felt guilty is another story. So perhaps it might be better to say the silence was more to avoid getting in trouble with others who would tell them it is wrong and a sin.
 12. Well if that sort of thing is accurate... I must be right-brained then. lol I tried to see if it would seem to be moving counter-clockwise, but all I get is clockwise. XP No sense of it moving any other way at all.
 13. I'm sure you've had this happen, your trying to sleep and yet you constantly keep getting interrupted by something that keeps you awake. It could be a song running through your mind that you can't get rid of. It could be your roommates TV that is turned up way to loud, or their music. There's always the one where you are thinking about things that happened during the day and its like your thoughts just won't settle down enough to let you fall asleep. And the one that drives me up the wall the most? Construction, since some of those machines are very, very loud. lol Probably the biggest offender lately is having things that happened earlier in the day or evening, that I just can't seem to get out of my mind. Not that I want to forget, but I do want my sleep. So what type of things keep you guys awake? Or rather what are the worse offenders? And why?
 14.
So Ira was revived as well, but it cost her a paralyzation of her legs. I want to stress that these handicaps set to revived characters cannot be reversed or healed by anyone or anything.
I already figured that, it was why I didn't have Jamie heal Joe.
I can tell you that the remaining actions will need you to expand your imaginations quite a lot. Simple aggression and spurs of violence just won't cut it anymore. So, with two deaths undone there are still twelve characters in play. That's still eleven too many, don't you think? ;P
And I can tell you honestly, that if it starts becoming too difficult to earn a point? It's going to make this game annoying very, very quickly. I've only had a few posts where I got nothing, yet each one was beyond frustrating. Just thought you should know that. And remember... It's my job to whine... or so I've been told. :p
 15.
While I miss a lot of the old RP-ers I'm actually pretty fond of my current "RPG group." I'm lucky enough to be in three different RPGs with members of the Utah Crew (Rach, Mom, indifference, etc.) and I can honestly say I'm having more fun in The Arena now than I was when I moderated the place. There are so many talented writers here, I just wish they would post more often. OB RPGs, like a fine wine, only seem to get better with age. -Shy
Thanks. :catgirl: I assure you the feeling is mutual. I'll blame it solely on Beth/SunfallE though since she got me started on it and now I'm shamelessly addicted to RPGs They're just too much fun.
Yeah I would agree, just from my own observations I'd say that the Utah Crew are leading the pack with OB RPGs at the moment. They're reminding us all how it's done. :catgirl:
I find it totally funny that there as so many of us from Utah. Joining here not only got me new friends online, but in real life as well. Though I haven't had the chance to meet Kathy and Aaryanna yet. I find that funny too since I've met the dog! XP But not the owner, and Aaryanna is so correct... that is one mean sounding little dog even though she's not. lol I suspect that in a few years I'll look back on the RPGs and other things that I've been a part of since I joined, and then I'll be calling them the good old days. Heh.
 16. Kerstin did not like it, necessary or not her new look annoyed the hell out of her. She hadn't realized just how much she preferred her long blonde hair and old fashioned style of dress. For one thing the reddish brown color and only having it go just past her shoulders looked terrible with the gaudy make up the stylist had taught her how to use. Like the old fashioned clothing, she was also use to far more simple means to enhance her beauty. Though it had never taken much, she didn't need it. Now, Kerstin felt cheap and she didn't even want to think about the horrible revealing clothing that was not much better than a second skin. "Bah!" She snarled at her reflection as she hit the panel to cover the mirror. Stalking back out into her quarters on the tiny transport ship. Soon they would be arriving in sector eight and even though Jeffery Sherman had clearly explained that she would not be required to actually work as a paid escort she still hated it. It didn't matter that it was a cover, that even those who would be attending the meeting would also be dressed up as something they were not. When Kerstin had questioned Jeffery as to why such a secret ordeal would even allow a paid escort he had merely given her an odd look before explaining that the other agent was posing as a very wealthy investor that the group was trying to convince to join the New Alliance. And when that still didn't clue her in, he had bluntly pointed out that someone like her would be used to help persuade a client. Kerstin had just turned red at the thought, especially when she learned that it was a common tactic in politics. It pained her to no end to realize that all the times Jared had teased her about being naive, he had been correct. The things you learn, she shook her head. Or rather the things you ignored since you didn't want to believe people were like that. Kerstin sighed as she left her quarters to go and meet Jeffery for one of their final lessons before they arrived. It didn't take her long to get to the recreation room, since the ship was so terribly tiny. Kerstin hadn't really given it a thought, but being on the Creator had spoiled her a bit since she hadn't realized just how excessively luxurious her quarters there were. She found that in addition to missing her brother Darren terribly, she also missed having all that space as well as the expansive view from the windows that had run all along one wall of her quarters. In this tiny thing, she had no view at all except through a monitor or when she was on the bridge. "Ah Kerstin, right on time." Jeffery said as she entered the recreation room. "You've done a good job learning what you needed to but I'm afraid your walk and mannerisms are still off just a bit. We are passing you off as one of the newer girls, but still, you'll stick out if we don't fix that." Kerstin came to a halt, facing Jeffery. "I already told you, I am not going to walk so I bounce!" She glared at him a bit. Still frustrated at having been forced into doing the assignment. "You can and you will. Don't be so damn stubborn. If you mess up you'll put yourself and our agent at risk. Do you really want to end up dead or locked up by the New Alliance? If that happens, you may never see your brother again." Kerstin just threw her hands up in the air in disgust. "Fine!" Damn stupid... It was annoying as hell. No wonder Darren is still so angry over being forced to become the Shipping Expert. Hell, how many stupid things did they make him do? It was a question that as soon as she met up with him again, she was going to find out.
 17. I've gone back to listening to stuff by Rachmaninoff again. I so never get tired of his works. Right now it's this piece that I have playing: Prelude in C-sharp minor Played by Russian pianist Ruslan Sviridov at a concert in San Antonio, TX, USA in November 2002. I would have liked to see him perform live. He's a fantastic pianist.
 18. Musical-type group. That would fit what I'm in since it's not a band. I play the Cello as many of you already know and though I focus more on my own skills since I'm currently attending university, I am part of a orchestra that performs about eight times a year. In fact we have a Halloween concert performance coming up next week. It's a good sized group since we usually have around 80 members at any given time.
 19. I feel sorry for whoever owns Joe. Ugh. After all that work to earn points so I could kill him off no less. lol Anyway... This game is a bit maddening at times. What with the point system and all, it's very trying to develop the characters and earn points at the same time. XP
 20. "Such cruelty Paraxis, was it really necessary to do what you did to that soul? Do we not torment them enough as it is?" Celesta was not amused. Just as most of the game did not amuse her. "If cruelty concerns you Celesta, then perhaps you would do best to worry about winning the game instead of how it is played." Paraxis admonished her. Celesta started to say something and then changed her mind. It was pointless really, if mere talk was enough, they would not be here. As she turned back to the pool, she did however catch a sad smile from Raone. If I do not win then I must hope that it is Raone who finally wins this, for the mortals sake. Never before had Joe felt such pain and bitter hatred towards another human being. And in a way, that hurt more than what had happened to him. The desire to harm the one responsible for his death and now for what the monstrosity had done to him. Joe tried to take a few steps only to stumble and fall to his knees. Even if he wanted to exact revenge or to see that Marta was punished for what she had done, he was helpless. Joe could hear the sounds of someone approaching him, but try as he might he could see nothing when he turned to face the sound. "What the hell happened to you old man?" A male voice asked him. "I was murdered in cold blood, by a woman who is dead herself." Joe whispered. "No fool!" The voice reprimanded him. "I mean what happened to your eyes? Did you see a tall Asian woman before that happened." "I saw only Death." Joe replied as he managed to get to his feet. "Where am I? Am I still in this cursed place?" "I've no idea," the voice said. "We're on some damn floating islands in the sky." Joe jumped a bit when a hand grasped his right arm. Instinctively he reached up to hang on to the person's sleeves. "I have to find her, the woman who did this to me. She's killed before and she'll kill again." Joe demanded of the stranger. "You're looking for a woman correct? Take me with you." "Why the hell should I do that? You're blind old fool. You'll just slow me down." The stranger started to pull away but Joe tugged on his sleeve. "I can identify the woman who did this, even if I am blind. I would recognize her voice anywhere, just as I can help you by describing her as well. You wouldn't want her to get to your friend would you?" Joe could feel the unknown person stiffening in either anger or worry. "Fine, have it your way, but if you fail to keep up I'll leave you behind." Joe just smiled inwardly to himself as the stranger started moving, he hung on tightly moving as fast as he could even with the blindness hindering him. I'll find you Marta, blind or not you'll pay for what you did. He hung on to the bitterness and anger that was growing even stronger, using it as a means to ignore the pain. "I'm Joe by the way." He said even as he stumbled a bit. "Jamie." The voice said curtly, obviously not interested in talking to him. Joe just fell silent and instead concentrated on where they were going, even if he could not see it. Something that just made him even angrier, the knowledge that even if he was reunited with his beloved Mama, he would never see her kind face again. All because of that horrible Marta.
 21.
I've never had an interest in this game. But seriously, if they added characters from that game? One of the only shooter games that I like? I'd be tempted to get the game just to play as one of those characters. I love Juno, Vela and Lupus! :catgirl:
That would actually tempt me as well. Most shooter games annoy the hell out of me since they require really getting into the game to be able to beat it. For that reason most shooter and fighter games are something that I rarely play. It gets boring really fast. But Jet Force Gemini was one of those games that my brothers and I enjoyed playing just for fun. I liked Lupus the best, especially when you reached the point where you got the upgrade.
 22. I thought I'd revive this thread since it's only a month old. XP But still I was curious to know if this was going to be put into motion. It seems kind of odd that the Community Events section is silent. So I was wondering if that thread or sticky in that area for suggestions was going to be put up so people could post suggestions. I still don't have an idea, but I'd love to see that area become more active again.
 23.
Yes, that's right, she should have spent her money supporting the corrupt and idea-killing music industry. Because that would solve everything.
No deal. :p The argument that all of them are corrupt and kill ideas is far from accurate. And even if they are... That still doesn't give someone the right to be a dork and steal just because someone else is doing it. That mentality is stupid and nothing more than finding a means to justify stealing. Mere sophistry.
 24. Sorry for taking so long on that post Beth. With last week being Fall Break I kept getting distracted by other things. XP I'm going to miss it though. Having an entire week off was nice. Anyway, at least I got it in before they arrived for the fight in sector seven. I hate playing catch up with an objective. And the last thing I want to do is get behind in this. It's too much fun! :catgirl:
 25. Darren had expected to be required to meet again with Stevens since he had indicated that once he had rested they would go over his new assignment, but that had not happened. Instead he had been escorted to his quarters and told to stay put until he was called for. Even to the point that there were security personnel outside his door at all times. Making him virtually a prisoner even though his quarters were far from tiny. No, like before he had been once again given a room meant for special guests. It was quite spacious and hardly confining since it had floor to ceiling windows all along one wall. Still, roomy or not, it was galling to be locked up. Even the view, which was one of the ship traveling in hyperspace didn't comfort him. Darren didn't know where they were going since no one could be bothered to tell him, but based on what was on the data chips that Stevens had given him it was likely that they were headed for sector seven. Otherwise, what Stevens was asking him to do would be pointless. It would require the resources that could only be found in that sector. There just wasn't another way to do it. Darren resisted the urge to slam his fist into the wall yet again. He had requested the right to at least walk around the ship, but it had been denied. Leaving him to depend on the update system to find out what was going on. Though that only gave him the information he was entitled to as the Shipping Expert. Disgusted he turned the terminal off at his desk and got up to go and stare out the window. I wonder how Kerstin is? He clenched his fists in anger. Stevens wouldn't even let me say goodbye! Before he could truly get angry again the chime indicating someone was at the door to his quarters sounded. Surprised he voiced the command for the computer to let whoever was out there in. And then he froze in shock when he saw just who it was. Oh hell! Darren took a step backwards without thinking about it. Why did he have to come here? If he had his way, Darren would have never opened the door. "I must say Darren, I come here to see that your needs are being taken care of and all you can do is back away and give me that kind of look?" Stevens laughed as he entered his quarters and the door shut behind him. "So many would pay any price to gain my favor and yet you look ready to run. Such a pity." "You know how I feel about that sir." Darren said stiffly. "As a matter of fact, I do. So stop looking like an idiot and come and take a seat. I'm here to go over what I gave you in the data chips and nothing more." He helped himself to one of the more plush chairs in the center of the main room and indicated that Darren should do the same. Hastily he grabbed his hand held computer off the corner of his desk along with the chips and took a seat on the opposite side of where Stevens was sitting. Cursing inwardly at his fate of now being required to deal with Stevens instead of Jared. Making him cringe since he never thought he'd see the day where he'd admit that he would rather be working with Jared. Darren had thought nothing could make him feel charitable towards Jared in any manner. Stevens sighed, "No wonder Jared found you annoying. I'm sure you got the same warning from him that I'm about to give you as well." "And just what would that be sir." Darren said, taken aback as he wondered just what in the world Stevens was talking about. "You really are naive aren't you?" He laughed at Darren's puzzled look. "For someone such as myself who is accustomed to taking whatever he wishes, just like Jared, the more clueless and reluctant one is... the more desirable they are." "Like I told you before sir." Darren said tartly. "You and Jared are the same." "I'll give you a bit of free advice then, since this will apply to working with individuals like Blaine as well. You need to take those obvious emotions and feelings that you wear so openly on your sleeve and hide them." Stevens gave him a mischievous grin. "It's not likely to save you from what I would do, but in the world of politics, it's absolutely essential. Much in the same way that it was when you were dealing with potential clients when you were simply delivering cargo." "I'll keep that in mind sir." "Good. Now have you reviewed the material I sent you?" Stevens continued when Darren indicated that he had. "Then lets start going over the fine points of that shall we? I want to be sure there is no confusion as to what you are expected to do." True to his word Stevens stuck to talking about what was on the data chips he had given Darren. He was still relieved when Stevens finally left though. I hope he doesn't plan on holding all the meetings here. Darren thought as he stared out into space from his vantage point of standing a foot away from the windows. It made him horribly uncomfortable since unlike Jared who tended to only target those who truly deserved punishment. Stevens was well known for having his way with whoever caught his fancy. And with him being a member of the High Council... Darren would have no means to stop him or even object should he choose to do so.
