Originally posted by maladjusted Of course, Queen Asuka, every culture is DIFFERENT from others all the time. Maybe Japanese kids are mature enough or something. ::mutters about little kids knowing geometry:: But I also think it's necessary that they dub anime shows, because if they don't, bored mommies will complain until they cancel it or dub it anyway. Then again, I wasn't corrupted by watching unedited anime either. I think the topics they discess in anime sort make you more open-minded sometimes. But, I don't think many teens watch WBkids or FOXKids or whatever, and little kids don't really care. ...Do they? O_o
I know that it is a different culture and that they do things VERY differently there, but my point is, they get into alot of mature themes. Alot of things that are very taboo in American culture are very accepted there. And so therefore, from that point of view, they have different types of morals and values than what the Americans typically have. And I don't see what bored mothers has to do with dubbing anime at all, so I hope you elaborate on that point a bit more. And I'm not addressing the fact that teens watch what is appropriate for them to watch, I'm talking about the CHILDREN! The little 4 year old who watches Cartoon Network because it's cartoons and watches things that is way above it's head. Hey, when I was 7, I saw Akira on TV. Freaked me out more than anything. But with the way children are today, they'll probably want MORE! I think I'm just ranting because I truly think society is digressing and that children nowadays are growing up without knowing the difference between right and wrong. It truly bothers me....*sighs*
It would be much better if they didn't edit them, but nobody can stop them. If you're a big anime fan, then you'll be driven to buy the unedited stuff. I mean...I was. And the people who buy lots of anime DVDs and whatnot aren't usually the little kids who watch KidsWB.
Obviously the little kids aren't the ones out buying anime: they don't have that sort of money. And when they do I'm sure toys and games come into mind before an anime movie would. Anyone who likes anime will want to real deal. And that's fine. Even I hate to see things butchered up and I'm frightened to watch things dubbed. But what can you do?

*Pats Semjaza the Former on the head* I'm sorry, but you don't find that high of an intelligence level in the Anime Lounge... ANYWHO! I don't know if I want to get it. I was at Media Play yesterday and it was a pretty expensive DVD, more expensive than most anime DVDs, which are already outrageous. I also haven't seen Reloaded yet (and it looks like I'm never going to see that &%@/* movie!), but oh well. How many shorts are on it? I don't want it to be a waste of money. OH ALSO! Since it's not completely anime, you can technically start a thread about it in Music, Movies, and TV, Semmie. ^_^

See, I knew what I was talking about. It's so funny how they dubbed over everything in the American version where "Lee" will be blushing when "Julian" is around, but they make it out as though something else is going on, and not that he's got a BIG crush on him. Dumb American censorship...
Originally posted by Black Eva I guess this is the place to introduce myself. I'm EWSN Ben Rusch on USS Kitty Hawk homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. Evangelion has been my addiction for 3 years and I hope for an intersting time here.
Actually, we did away with the introduction forum, so you just have to start posting and in your first post introduce yourself while remaining on topic, which you didn't. I hope that you observe the rules and enjoy your stay here. Thank you! *QA*

Princess Toadstool smiled happily as she brushed her hair in the mirror. She was very excited about the upcoming festival, despite all that had been going on. She figured it was nice to have a little break away from it all...and a break was what she definately needed. Walking out of her room, she headed straight for the kitchen. "It's lunchtime, and I'm a bit hungry..." she told herself as she walked through the halls. There were many goombas and koopas all over the place, which made her a bit nervous, but she trusted that Mario knew what he was doing. As she entered the kitchen, the girls in there made a big fuss over her as usual. "Anything we can get you, ma'am?" "You look so dazzling today, your Highness!" "Aren't you so excited about the Festival?" Peach smiled at them all and nodded. "How about we focus on lunch for everyone?" The girls giggled and set themselves to finishing up the preparations. Princess Toadstool made her way over to a chair and stared out the window for a bit, wondering what was next.

WHOOHOO! Thanks Shy! I had lots of problems with my pictures, though. ^_^

I accidently forgot to sign up and I want to be in, so here's my stuff! Character Name: Back in the day she was Princess Toadstool. In recent games they all her Peach. Reason for Choosing Character: Well, Breko took Samus, which is who I originally wanted to be, but OH WELL. *Thwacks Breko* Anywho, I really like her. When I was a kid, I idolized her and Princess Zelda. Don't ask me why, I guess it was because I wanted to be a Princess, too. She's cute and she wears a Pink dress. How like me is that? And in the cartoon, she was the coolest character, hands down. Knowledge of Character: I have a good bit of knowledge based on all the games and the cartoons that I used to watch. She likes Millie Vanillie and got to see them in concert. See, I know random, obscure facts. ^_^ Anywho, here's some OLD funky pictures of her. ^_^ Anywho, let me know if I get accepted, Shy. ^_^

Yes, here's the link to the other thread if you want to take a look. It didn't last very long, but oh well. The Animatrix
Originally posted by James My point is, I'm the example that this stuff doesn't corrupt your brain forever. If you have parents who can explain why certain things are bad (ie: swearing) and if they are englightened enough to allow your mind to expand...I don't see a problem.
That's the thing though...alot of parent's don't tend to bother. Maybe it's just worse here in America where culture has us to believe it's a free country and we can do whatever we want to. And it makes me sad. That's why I think that kids are so easily impressionable at such a young age. The companies HAVE to edit that stuff out or parents would start such a riot that they wouldn't even be able to show the stuff on television. About lower morals and values, I could go into it with my opinion, but I don't want to offend anyone around here.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve I'm ALWAYS the paser on the highway. I hate being passed.
I HATE when people pass me, too! But not on the highway. I hate it when they pass me on a regular road or something when I'm already going over the speed limit. I just started driving. BUT, I do not go more than 10mph over because: 1. My friend Tabby used to drive 85 in the 45 and it scared me to death. She finally got a ticket and lost her liscence for a year. 2. Anna, our own dear Anna, used to be a speed demon and we were in a wreck. Luckily all I got out of it was a REALLY BIG nasty bruise. Therefore, I don't want to endanger the lives of others, so I try to drive carefully. I hate driving on the interstate and I've only done it a few times. I guess it's something that has to grow on you.

Actually, there is in the Japanese version, I believe. There are lots of same-sex couples. Tomoyo is in love with Sakura, Syaoran is in love with Yukito, Yukito likes Sakura's brother...I mean, it's one vicious and confused cycle in there!

It actually comes out today. I'm thinking about getting a copy, but I'm not so sure. I think I'll wait until someone else gets a copy and then borrow theirs. :D I am definately a big fan of the Matrix.
Originally posted by Arkadyz japanese children watch this stuff all the time undedited...Parents over here are just too overprotective... :cross:
And the Japanese have very low morals and values. I am GLAD that my parents were overprotective of me. It's not necessarily sheltering, it's more like a concern for how you turn out. This world is already too corrupt. I know children who are pregnant in middle school. Do the children REALLY need to be watching stuff like that? NO! When you're a child is when you are the most impressionable. I know that when I was a kid, I wanted more than anything to be a Power Ranger. As for the company, hey YuGiOh is CRAP and Pokemon went to crap. But at least it's fun stuff for the kids.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve Who the hell came up with the word Blog? The word is just nasty in it's own connotation.
I think it's short for WebLog. Can't really give you much of an explanation, though.

I don't see how it's possible to even make another game to follow up the storyline that seemed to close quite nicely. But you never know some of these people with their extremely strange imaginations. Well, if it ever does come out, I will want to play it. ^_^
Originally posted by Bandit Joeykuba I always thought that Misty's last name was 'Waterflower', seeing how the episode where Ash battles Misty for the cascade badge is called 'The Waterflowers of Cerulean City'.
That's what I was trying to remember, but of course, it all leaves your mind in time...*sighs* Waters sounds like it would make sense, obviously, and I think Waterflowers was just what they were called when they performed. Sort of like a show name. I can't think of an example, but you know what I mean. ^_^;

Interesting thread, Jamesness. My blog address: http://www.teenopendiary.com/entrylist.asp?authorcode=B591183 I never could get the blog website to work for me, so I found another venue. Blog name: ~*Fairy Lights*~ It's just a cute word from a Harry Potter novel. ^_^ Thoughts behind it/reasons for creating it: Mostly so my Otaku friends could learn a bit more about me and reply to some of the things I have to say and perhaps give me some advice. Most of my entries are very dry, but sometimes I have real issues in there. It's nothing like my real diary, which is very personal, but what I want you to know, it's in my blog. By the way, I love reading other people's blogs, too. I feel like I'm right there with the person. ^_^
Originally posted by Osmosis Well to me personally one of the reasons is because anime is one of those art mediums where insanely exaggerrated things don't feel out of place.
Or in Love Hina where Keitaro is on the second floor, Naru is in the Hot Springs, and her punch manages to connect and knock him sky-high. I laughed so hard, teehee. I like anime because of the art style. I've always been into cartoons my whole life (I still am), but anime does have a bit of an edge over most things in America. Except maybe Disney. ^_^ I can't really explain what it is, but I like attractive characters. So yeah...I'm insane.
-
I finally got through the first four episodes, and it wasn't that bad, but I'm still pro-manga. They change too many of the circumstances, but it does seem that Naru is more interested in Keitaro than her manga-self. Hey Sara, I love Tama-chan, too! ^_^

Please clean up your act. *QA* -
Well, I honestly think this thread has run its course, so therefore I am closing it. It has been nothing but spam from the time it was started and has really lead to no decent conversation in all it's 10+ pages. So unless Shy deems otherwise, this thread has been retired. *QA*

But you just have to know that they are the ones being ignorant and that they are missing out. :) I have some people I know who think it's all like Digimon or Sailor Moon. I truly think there is an anime series out there for everyone, but some people...heh.

For videogames, I'd have to go with Final Fantasy VII because EVERY song on there, I loved it. I still remember all the tunes by heart. I also liked Chrono Cross, as well. For anime, I'd have to go with Trigun. It's the only anime I have the soundtrack to because the music is so FREAKING AWESOME! ^_^
