1. I use lol a lot. In fact, I notice that in AIM/YIM/MSNM/any Messenger, I use lol at least in every other IM. But why do I use it? I dunno lol. lol whoops. o shi- But I think I have divided my ways of usage into these parts. When I use lol, either I: -don't care about what you just IMed me about, therefore I said lol as a filler -wasn't paying attention -thought it was funny, but mildly funny -actually lol'd irl, in which I'll say "lol I lol'd irl ='(" -just used a phrase that I always incorporate lol with. A.k.a. "omg lol", "lol i dunnoe", "lol wut?", etc. -was tired of spamming rofl, lmao, LOL, or something. Or, -felt like using an lol as the end of the sentence because I was sick or ending my IMs with emoticons or periods. When I use lol, as stated above, it's usually not funny. But what about roflcopter, lollerskates, and all of those fun stuff? How do they compare? For me, it usually goes like this. Aka what do I mean when I say the bolded lol. lol or haha - Usually not funny. lolololool - You're most likely acting stupid or speading rainbows of lulz all over my chatbox, so I'll try to do the same to you. lulz - You referenced *chan. rofl - Funny. lmao - Wow, that was actually pretty awesome. lmfao - Your joke was good. I like. LOL - Incredible, you're so hilarious, I'm using caps lock. ROFLMAO ZEDONG - Unless you referenced Academic Decathlon, then you probably made such a brilliant joke, I probably did roll on the floor laughing my a** off, while typing in caps lock.
2. This is just about individualism. Analysis of it, references to historical approaches, and other various talk about it. Just like how a topic of "Naruto vs. Bleach" is not the same as a topic of "Naruto" >_> Or a "Love vs. Hate" thread and a "Love Thread". If you want me to rephrase it to make it look less redundant, I need help on a writing project that deals with the topic of individualism. It's basically the same topic as "Individualism" though lol.
3. As Wikipedia states, "Individualism is a term used to describe a moral, political, or social outlook that stresses human independence and the importance of individual self-reliance and liberty." Of course, it can be interpreted in several ways though. So, what is your take on it? What would you consider as individualism? Is there a difference between individualism and nonconformity? Is there a relationship between egoism and individualism? Do you consider yourself to be an individualist? If so, what makes you one? Etc. I personally don't have an opinion on individualism really, and that's why I made this thread lol... But whenever I think of the topic, I always am reminded of Henry David Thoreau, and even Ralph Waldo Emerson. But mostly Thoreau, especially because of his actions. Spending a lot of his life experimenting and archiving his observations of nature (hence, Walden), spending a night in jail by refusing to pay taxes, etc.
4.
Bad and boring? How so? Everything Lupin I have seen is pretty good(not just for it's time either). So you don't like that dub? I though it was pretty good. The voices sounded good and the mouth movement and voice sync was good.
No, I absolutely love the dubbing itself, except for maybe one voice. I just don't like how they changed almost all of the verbal jokes and stuff. And I know it wouldn't really connect or appeal to American audience if it wasn't done, but for me, I just see the US Shin-chan as a whole different character from the Japan Shin-chan.
5. I accidentally went to the captioned version so I could understand everything that they were saying, haha. Even Carter's. I liked the movie, it's my favorite musical film now haha. Like DB pointed out, the blood looked absolutely brilliant, especially because of its contrast with the monochrome-like atmosphere. I also liked how even though a whole scene of Sweeney slitting everyone's throats could've been too redundant, Burton made it so that each new throat slit was a new experience. I bought the soundtrack too lol... I like "Epiphany", "A Little Priest(?)", and "Helena (the second version)".
6. I can't believe I'm doing this, but okay, you've persuaded me >_> I'll join lol... But don't expect much from me. I've never RPed
7.
Crayon shin chan And a bunch more.
=( IMO, I think they butchered Crayon Shin-chan. I mean, it's a good show on AS, but I'm not used to it at all >_> Seeing as I'm used to the Japanese version. The jokes, humor, etc.
8. Ohoho~ I love this thread. First on my list: Kimi ga nozomu eien - Okay, maybe it wouldn't be the worst anime I have watched if I played the game before, or if I didn't watch the series so recently. But seeing as I think romance as rather pointless, the whole anime was pretty pointless. One of the reasons is because once Miss Suzumiya
was a victim of a car crash and went into a coma, all of her friend's lives were screwed over.
. That main character guy got all depressed and didn't come to school, didn't graduate, etc, etc, and ended up getting stuck woking as a butler host guy at some cafe with two annoying girls. That Mitsuki girl on the other hand, obsessed with becoming a swimmer, also abandoned her dreams and became an assistant for a business. =/ Oh, and the fact that the characters waste the entire series by running around causing a bunch of drama that could've been avoided, (Ex. lololol I cheated on you because you're going out with the girl I purposely hooked up with you, and now I can't even do work properly because I'm so sad ='( !!) Now in no particular order: One Piece - I've never really watched it much, but I don't like the animation. >_> Lain - If I didn't watch it when I was really little, maybe I wouldn't hate it. But a lot of concepts of that show made me go "wtf?", and it was pretty boring in general. I just liked the artwork. Inuyasha - Used to obsess over it. I admit, it was a pretty good anime in the US at the time, but now that I've seen a lot of other anime, it's not very good compared to them. Now, it just looks so corny and redundant. After all, I usually don't like shows that drag on to over 52 episodes, lol. I just don't have the patience to watch them. Naruto - Okay, maybe I don't think it's the worst anime, and the fight scenes are actually pretty cool. Same with some characters. But what I really don't like is the American fanbase (speaking stereotypically so no offense. There are always cool Narutards out there too =P). Also, I don't think the anime itself is worth it, with 50% of it being fillers, and 90% of the show being rather pointless stuff >_> Ive actually tried to force myself to like Naruto, but I just can't get into it. The only thing I like is the fighting =P
9. Claimed >_> Edit: lol... I am sooo late. I actually had the lineart done awhile ago, but then I ended up being really busy. Sorry for the delay. The huge delay. And as if it couldn't get worse, let me uh... draw my character so it can get claimed XD Because I'm so lazy lol... Side character lulz Name: Sayuri Ito -A.k.a. The hikikomori, whose first attempt to socialize ends up in death Gender: Female Age: 16 Cosplay: Battle Royale participant (tan blazer, white-collared shirt, tan skirt, red tie) Click here for reference, but the white collared shirt should not have a rounded collar. Looks: Face is thin, long purple-tinted black hair that partially covers her face (seems a bit messy) Weapon: None Likes: Hitomi? copypasta Description: Sayuri Ito (Age 16). She is a hikikomori hence why she has that hair all in her face/looks like Sadako/Samara/The Grudge/every Japanese horror person. Because she was abused by her father (D.V.D! D.V.D!) often, she is very quiet and antisocial. Her classmates ostracisized her as well because of her distant personality and creepy looks. It was only a matter of time before she considered committing suicide. If it weren't for Hitomi, who kindly greeted and befriended her on the first day of high school, she might've ended her life after all. Sayuri looks up towards Hitomi as an incredible idol, almost like a goddess. She obeys whatever Hitomi asks for, and she believes that she's her savior. She later wins a contest for two to an anime convention's special event. Feeling that it is finally a chance to show herself out to the world, she invites Hitomi along. Unfortunately, this special event turns out to be "Cosplay Royale", and the participants would have to kill each other until one survives. She ends up feeling terribly guilty about dragging Hitomi along because well... now her idol is trapped along with her in this mess =( Of course, Hitomi thinks otherwise (read her description for more =P) and kills Sayuri k done Other information: Hitomi's Description
10. -Final Fantasy VII - I'm pretty sure I played this one for 100+ hours. I don't remember though because that was a long time ago. -Tales of Symphonia - I know this for sure. I think I played it around 4 times through, and I would always do a bunch of side quests and stuff. Fun stuff. -Fatal Frame II: The Crimson Butterfly - I'm not sure about this one either, but I have spent a lot of time on it. Getting horribly lost. And I think I've played it through once or twice. A lot of the time, I start a new file but never complete it though. If I count Fatal Frame series in general, I'm pretty sure that would be 100+ hours. -Melty Blood: Act Cadenza - Again, not sure. But again, I spent a loooooooong time on it. Just randomly fighting CPU, training, or going online and fighting other people. - Omg Pokeymanz ! - Enough said =P - MapleStory - I am not proud of this. But it is true ='(
11. \(^▽^*)Happy New Year, everybody~(*^▽^)/ I hope everyone is enjoying theirs! ∠☆PAN And I hope there is peace and harmony~ \(^∀^)メ(^∀^)ノ Yay! As for resolutions... Well, I was going to make a resolution stating that I would stop harassing people online, but I know I can't keep it. Seeing as if I did make such a resolution, it would have been broken a minute after midnight... As well as five minutes after..., and more _| ̄|○
12. No offense to anyone, but by making a topic like this and making a big deal out of it, it's only making the article seem more valid, lol. >_> Also, in any case, I wouldn't make such a big deal about it anyway. The article wasn't even that bad in my opinion, and at least your picture and information wasn't posted elsewhere. Of course, I'm just a newbie here so I wouldn't know much about it anyway =P
13. Let's see... Well, I have met two online people at an anime convention. Since this is OtakuBoards, a recommended place would probably be an anime convention. It's very public and what not, and it could be pretty fun. I'm pretty active on other forums, so eventually, I met two other girls at an anime con of 2005 that were from one of them. And later, at this more recent anime con, one of them needed a place to stay, so I offered her my hotel room, haha. We also had dinner, met others, etc. It was all good game. So yeah, be cautious though. There's a lot of bad things on the Internet, and likewise, there are a lot of bad people on the Internet too. So meet ups might not be as good as they plan on being. That's why I take extra precautions =P
14. I just heard of it recently, because I had some free time and there was an article about it in the school newspaper, lol. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have known what Sweeney Todd was, because I don't watch TV, read many magazines, etc. But I heard there would be bloodshed, slitting, and cannibalism, so now I reeeeeally am interested.
15. I don't know any American bands, lol... So J-music time =P Shimi - MAXIMUM THE HORMONE One of my favorite rock bands, even though a lot of people don't like them (lol, no love =( for Death Note OP 2) Houchou hasami Cutter Knife dosu kiri - MAXIMUM THE HORMONE My favorite songs by them >_> I like it because of its fast beat, I guess. Another song I am currently listening to is: Amedama no uta - BUMP OF CHICKEN Since it's from their newest album, Orbital Period =P And I like BUMP OF CHICKEN's style. But yeah, it focuses more on the vocals. And finally, Aisaika no choushoku - Shiina Ringo. Old but I like it still. Shiina Ringo is always a very unique singer, so I usually like her songs. Especially the lyrics for this piece.
