Anime Which series grabbed you from the start?
ShinigamiNoMiko replied to Nekova's topic in Otaku Central
Oh jeez... you're making me think now. Well one anime that grabbed me and just kept me glued to it from start to finish is definitely Fullmetal Alchemist. It was something unique I had never seen before and the plot line and animation were just supurb. -
I cosplay all the time, and really pay no mind to people who think I am lame because of it... Usually my costumes are not that expensive simply because I can't sew(well not well) and most of my things are thift shop throw togethers that I alter. Like my latest costume, Eclair from Kiddy Grade, I bought a red dress, cut it to size, replaced the sleeves and added gold trim.... Which is pretty much the most I have done for any of my costumes. As for how long I've been cosplaying and the number of costumes I have done... well let me see here... I have been cosplaying for about six years and have...well six costumes under my belt. So far they are as follows: Rika - Digimon Season 3 Trowa - Gundam Wing Seguchi Tohma - Gravitation Kuronue - Yu Yu Hakusho: Poltergiest Report Edward Elric - Fullmetal Alchemist(I comissioned this one) Eclair - Kiddy Grade I think that's about it really... I might put a picture or two up of my better ones later.

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
ShinigamiNoMiko replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
Right now I am reading the Black Cat manga... I'm on Volume one still but am fast approaching volume two. It's so amuzing, I just love it. -
I had no idea where to find... or even about the directory. ;_; I seem to think I am doing well, but I feel like such a n00b. I tried DESPERATELY to find the Black Cat Manga today... but... they had everything but volume one! :animecry: It ruined my whole day(I am over exhagerating of course). I will however buy it and have the anime and the mange just because I read a preview for the manga once and it looked amazing. So I really, really want it soon.

I found the art in Junjo Romantica a little hard to look at but over all found the series amuzing... However the writer and our resident seme did scream YUKI! to me when I first saw him :animeswea
Ahaha, indeed. Rest assured that you have company. I caved a few months ago. By then I had decided that I'd stop caring about Gravi's quality--if I enjoy it, then I enjoy it, and there's nothing I can really do about that. At least it still makes me laugh. :animeswea ~Dagger~
Yeah, I think I am going to have to be the same way as well. I don't like how whiny Yuki is, but over all it still makes me laugh and I am still a large Shuichi fan. I have come to enjoy it and there's nothing wrong with that in the long haul. -
For the life of me I searched and I searched in here, but there's no Black Cat thread. I suppose it must not have picked up much speed then. However if there are any fans out there I am hoping we can have a fun and light hearted discussion about it. Personally, I just got this series, well the Anime that is. My friend gave it to me as a birthday gift at the convention we were just at. I must say, I have become quite a fan of it, and even more specifically, quite a fan of Train. However, I might get shot for that, just because EVERYONE seems to be a fan of Train. It's the personality I think, he can be dark and brooding, but fun loving too... I'm not sure if he's multidimentional, but it's enough for me to like him. That and he really doesn't have a very hard character design to look at... Cute for ink on paper if you know what I mean. Lol. So far I am up to only the third DVD, just made it past a really cute and silly scene in Episode 11. I won't give spoilers for those who have seen it, but Train fans are bound to like it. So, I suppose that's all I can put for now, if any one else would like to contribute to the topic that would be awesome, I want to see if there are anymore fans out there.
ShinigamiNoMiko, that's why we have an Official Thread Directory so next time just check it first before starting a series specific thread. Thanks. ^_~ Aaryanna

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?
ShinigamiNoMiko replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central
Right now I am watching the Black Cat TV series. My friend recently bought me the whole set at Anime Evolution and I just can't stop popping them in the DVD player :animeswea I have become just a little bit addicted and quite the Train fan. As for what I am reading... Well it SHOULD be Black Cat, but sadly no store I went to today had volume 1. :animecry: So... I sunk to a horrible low and did something I vowed I would NEVER do... I bought Gravitation EX >< The saddest part... there are some things I really hate about it, but for the most part, I'm enjoying it > -
I work, I eat, and I sleep... and that pretty much feels like all I do anymore. Lately my life has been a little more interesting because I have been working on some cosplays... other than that though it's really boring and dry. I don't even draw as much as I would like to anymore.

FAKE and Hero Heel are topping my lists right now. Interesting note about Little Butterfly too. I had no idea they were aged up. Actually they kinda looked like they were in High school so I am surprised to find out they were supposed to be in Middle School in the original version.

I am a huge fan of fantasy/romance anime. Yes, yes I am a helpless romantic sucker... sap, whatever you want to call it. A good comedy is nice too though. My prefferences seems a little hard to believe though since my two favourite anime right now are Fullmetal Alchemist and Yu Yu Hakusho. :animeswea

That might be true in Japan, but are most of us on here Japanese OR living in Japan? No, no we're not. The fact you can take a foreign word and give it your own meaning. There are two definitions for otaku now and two kinds of people who use them. There are some anime fans who stay absolutely ridgidly true to the Japanese meaning and use otaku as an insult. Then there are fans who will proudly stand up and shout. "I am otaku!" Why? Because these fans have just lightened the menaing for themselves. They're saying they're passionate about what they love. It's not that they're obessed, it's just something easier then, "Hi, I am so and so and I am REALLY, REALLY into anime/gaming/ whatever." Just lighten up and roll with it.

I think I saw pokemon first... I can't really remember. All I know is that I got into that a little, but like with Sailor Moon when I was 8, had NO idea it was from Japan or known as anime. I think I really got questioning it when I started Watching Digimon, and REALLY got into it and started drawing it and doing cosplays when I got into Gundam Wing. Basically, Gundam Wing was the anime that turned me from a casual watcher to a "hard core" fan:catgirl:
Personally I have yet to find another anime where they
kill off the main character in the very first episode...
I have always seen Yu Yu Hakusho as a very well put together series, the fights weren't as long as some other anime and didn't bore me to death. Some of the character development was pretty awesome too, although they could have done a tad more to expand Kuwabara and Keiko in my eyes... They lacked development to me really. The plot twist at the end of the Chapter Black Saga was pretty great for me too. Of course granted you could almost see it coming, it was still unpredictable enough to keep it interesting... if that even makes sense. I'm really proud to own this series, I watch it quite often and it is definately near the top of my anime favourites list.
Even if it is in the first episode, don't spoil it for someone who hasn't seen the show yet. If in doubt, spoiler tag it. Thanks. ~indifference

I tried, really I did but honestly I couldn't find it, I waved my mouse over every little icon.:animeswea I'm sorry, I honestly tried not to ruin it for other people.

I myself am a huge Gackt fan. He has such a nice voice and his range of music is really great. If I had to name a favourite album of his of mine it would have to be The Sixth Day Collection. Many of my favourite songs are on that CD, such as Vanilla, Miserable, and Last Song... Last Song always fills me with a sense of peace for some reason. Of course I love anime music too, as that was what got me into Japanese music to begin with... Two-Mix anyone? *Was a huge Gundam Wing fan* Sadly as well, I am one of those loser aformentioned anime fans that cannot list off 5 J-Rock Bands... Well I can, but not on the spot, I would have to think for a while. I feel so ashamed and pathetic saying that. :animedepr

I've only been working as a receptionist at a local hotel for about a month now and already I have a bit of a horror story. Though I will thank the high heavens it is not nearly as bad as some of the things I have read in this thread so far. Jees Louise, the story of that man at the movie theater, the "christian" screaming at a poor pregnant woman really got me a little pissed. Anyways this little story of mine happened just last week. It's full fledged summer time where I live right now and sadly our hotel does not have air conditioning. Now, because of this we DO tell our house keeping staff to close the curtains and open the windows AND turn the fans in the rooms on to keep them as cool as possible. However our house keeping, god bless them, forgets to do these tasks a lot of the time which leads to this little problem I had. There was this family staying in one of the rooms at the hotel, it was on the ground level and sadly is right next to our kitchen. Now, we're told to NEVER make a reservation for that room unless we are absolutely desperate and have no other rooms avaliable. So I am just getting on shift and checking in another customer when the mother from the room comes in and starts yelling to me that the room she is in smells terrible, is too hot and is FILTHY. At this point my head house keeper was right behind me so I kindly tell the woman that she will attend to her problem then go back and finish checking the people I was helping in. The house keeper comes back about two minutes later shaking her head and insisting there was nothing really wrong with the room. So I keep doing my job as best as possible. Two minutes after that the woman comes back with her husband and kids, informs me now that the room is far too noisy, is still filthy and smells bad and asks if there are any other rooms I can move them to, I politely tell them that no there aren't as we are booked solid. Immediately she starts harping on my about the people I just checked in and that they had this reservation for months. I told them that I was sorry and I was not the one who made the reservation so my hands are tied at the moment. Grumbling she demands pool towels from me and takes her family for a swim. At this point I go to my manager with their complaint and he tells me he would like to speak to them when they get back. Unfortunately when they got back we were at our busiest time with dinner and he couldn't speak to them. He told me to inform them that if they were so dissatisfied they could freely check out and we would not charge them...(keep in mind now we absolutely cannot rent this room out now, as our house keeping have gone home). This is when the father steps in. He starts screaming in my face that the offer isn't good enough and that they can't possibly get another place so soon. I tell him that I can offer him a phone book. He counters with a bit of a spit in my face that I can find them a hotel room for the night and when I have their solution I am to call them in the room. So long story short I find them another hotel easily, but it's 30$ more than what we charge, the father was about to get pissed off again when my manager took 30$ out of his own pocket and handed it too them before making the reservation at this new hotel for them... He and I were both VERY happy to see that family go. The worst part of this whole story, when we went in to check the room after they left... THERE WAS NOT A DAMN THING WRONG WITH IT! We were pretty furious.

Anime does anybody know a good online cosplay store except ebay?
ShinigamiNoMiko replied to a topic in Otaku Central
Go to http://www.qqcosplay.com They are cheap, efficient, do FANTASTIC work, and I swear by them. These people are who I go to when I want a costume done that I posetively know I could never sew myself. They made me a spectacular Edward Elric costume last year, outfit accessories and everything for just a little over $150US
