When I die, I want to sell out. My tombstone's gonna have some sort of advertisement. "I'm still Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs!" "You can go to Heaven and never find a better beer than Sam Adams." "Never got to play Spore." And so on.

Discuss Idea: Ridiculously Over-powered and Mature Kiddies RPG Anyone?
Inculta_Bellum replied to AngryBarista's topic in Theater
The idea was a good one, it was the presentation before it that got the overreaction. Anyway, sorry if I overreacted. Follow the good advice of the last few posts and rework it into a semi-finished product. Then you'll get some helpful advice about the rp itself. -
Discuss Idea: Ridiculously Over-powered and Mature Kiddies RPG Anyone?
Inculta_Bellum replied to AngryBarista's topic in Theater
Bad rpg's have similar elements . . . Why not. I've proposed two rpg ideas here that have bombed, probably because they were poorly written or something.:animesmilgetting back on topic It sounds like you're making fun of people who don't make the rps that you like. Instead of complaining about overpowered and over-mature children cropping up every day, why not explain why you think its a bad story element and how the story can be improved. The general idea here being: DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT Seriously. What happened to community? Making an game based on weird ideas is part of what makes Otaku Boards great, but your reasons for it are shallow and one-sided based on your views of good writing.
There are plenty of rpg?s here I don?t read for different reasons. Some, nothing more than the fact that though well done, it?s not the type of story that appeals to me.
This is funny for an odd reason. I don't read The Almagest Legacy because I don't like the setting, and it's one of the biggest games up right now. Question: What defines an RP as 'succesful'? -
Discuss The Legend of Terraprim: Underground
Inculta_Bellum replied to Aberinkula's topic in Theater
Everbody's starting in their homes, but where are they? Are we scattered all over, or do we all start out in a central city? -
After reading through most of Otakupedia, I realized that the Otaku Boards themselves have a deep history and setting like any given MMO. So that's where this RP is leading. Players would more or less play themselves in the game, if that makes any sense at all. Think of it sort of like the .hack// series, except with much more breaking of the fourth wall. Everyone would know that they're just characters in a game and would be free to comment on the ridiculous plot at any time. The plot, if you can call it that, would be about a group of players forming into a party to complete the ultimate end-game quest. There would be three 'attunement' quests to be completed beforehand, one each for the AV District, The Square, and the Cultural District. Eventually it would all lead up to saving Otaku Boards sometime in its distant past. That's all I've really got right now. No equipment lists. No need to buy the game. No monthly fees to play. If you have any questions or help to offer, feel free to do so. To Do List Standard Currency Landscape

Just in time. Character Name: Julian Darrickson Age: 22 Gender: Male Personality: Zealous. Julian is obsessed with upholding the doctrine of Prophetism, and doing away with nay-sayers and pagans. He is cruel, ruthless, and obviously anti-social. The only loyalty he has is to the church. History: Julian's childhood was wrought with misfortune. His mother died giving birth to him, and his father constantly beat him. School was hardly better. He was the prime target for bullies for seeming so weak, and his grades were very poor. One night, Julian's father attempted to kill him. The man had been drinking and decided that his son was the one responsible for killing the love of his life. But when he got home, Julian was not there. He had run away. The father stormed out of their apartment and began searching for him. He would not be denied. Julian hadn't gotten but three blocks away when he saw his father running after him. Terrified, he started running. But there was no escape. Julian's father caught him and slowly began strangling him, in plain view, on the sidewalk. As the world darkened around him, Julian heard something like a thud. Suddenly he could see. There was his father's head rolling on the ground, and a priest sheathing a sword behind him. The priest was muttering under his breath, praying for forgiveness. After all was said and done, the priest turned to leave. He walked a few steps and looked back over his shoulder at Julian. The boy needed no second bidding, and followed the merciful man of God who had saved his life . . . Attacks: Almighty Round- A 'super bullet' that's three times faster and produces an explosion on impact. Judgement Round- A seeker bullet capable of making 90 degree turns. Follows its target until it hits. Merciful Shot- A reduced power shot that never kills. -Later- Ark Trial- An attack that causes ever-increasing pain for 40 days. Intended to cause insanity. Herald Angel- Essentially a flare. High temperature burns and melts most objects. Sin Volley- Fires seven more powerful bullets in near-instant succession. Appearance: (Attached) Prophet Name: Calvin Reuter Gender: Male Special Power: Imbues Julian's gun with the ability to fire unique bullets. These rounds do drain his stamina, so excessive use is lethal. Personality: Lazy. Unlike Julian, Calvin believes in religious tolerance. Calvin does have a sense of justice, and refuses to allow innocents to be harmed if he can help it. Likewise, he has a deep hatred for anyone who abuses power and tramples on the weak and defenseless. History: Calvin was a prominent Prophetism priest in the 1600's. After leading a relatively boring existense for forty-three years, he rose to defend a family of atheists who had settled in his town. The pieous townspeople believed him to be overcome by the devil and burned him alive in boiling oil. Appearance: (Also attached) You can't see it in the picture, but he has goat legs. Satyr form is a weird punsihment. The young blond one is Julian. The old one is Calvin.

Do the players who are permanently removed still have any posting power? Just saying, some people might not like playing a game and not helping to finish it. But that's the point of games, isn't it? THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE This is definitely interesting. It's like Clue on steroids. "Pop the pill, Colonel Mustard." I look forward to reading it!

Politics is a constantly shifting ocean. One minute someone (Clinton) is riding high on one of the best waves ever, and the next they're struggling to surface. The Democrats might nominate Clinton over Obama simply because there are still a lot of rascist whites in America. I live in South Carolina, and almost no one I've asked would vote for anything other than a white male Christian. Which is why Republicans have virtually carried the south for a while now. The Democrats at least have a fighting chance here with Clinton. I don't intend to vote based on policy because all candidates would change them the instant they're sworn in. What nominee doesn't promise lower taxes, or at least avoids the issue altogether? Instead I vote personality. Which is why I support Obama. God knows we need a young idealist with some huevos to stand up to his opponents. He is very friendly, smiles a lot, and puts people at ease. Reminds me a little of Bill Clinton. Which isn't totally good. Republicans will always stand a chance at victory so long as the Democrats keep putting forth minority candidates. The race hasn't even made the third lap yet! Anybody could pull a victory.
Concerning Furi Kuri and Bo however-many-it-is: the reason these shows are amazing is that they're not supposed to make any sense at all. I'd be willing to bet that all you people who hate them don't like Monty Python, either.
I can't get my head around FLCL but I love Monty Python. Comparing Japanese to British television is just, weird. FLCL can teach you a valuable lesson, if a show is totally random, don't try to understand it. That's why I can tolerate Bobobo-Bobobobo. Tolerate. I just can't apply the lesson to the source material.
-
I know I'm gonna catch a lot of crap for this but, I really don't like FLCL. I don't want to destroy it, so I don't hate it, but it is the worst anime I've ever seen. At least Bobobo doesn't pretend to have a central plot. FLCL is just a bunch of comedy and action sequences spliced together with no understandable storyline. I JUST DON'T GET IT. The original One Piece really is awesome because it has guns, not super-soakers.

There sure do seem to be a lot of sharingans . . . :animeswea Name: Guujin Ki Gender: Male Age: 12 Clan/Bloodline Limit: Guujin clan, no bloodline limit Appearance: Shorter than his peers, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. Wears a green jacket over a white shirt and matching green pants. Has sandals for footwear. Bio: A none too spectacular student at the academy, everybody expects very little from him. He never had to want anything in his life. His parents, brother, sister, and all around life were a perfect living enviroment. Which is why he became a ninja. Ki wants to live a life of freedom and excitement, away from the warm comforts of home that always seem to smother him. Weapons: Explosive Tags and Kyoushu Other: Ki uses ninja puppetry, and most of his weapons are inside of Kyoushu. Kyoushu looks like a wooden ten-legged scorpion about half the size of Ki himself. He carries it on his back inside a sealed box.

This november we as a nation are going to choose a new president of these United States. Until then, we'll have a good bit of mud-slinging between all concerned parties!:animesmil In case you already didn't know, Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee won the Iowa caucus last week. I haven't seen figures yet, but it looks like Hillary Rodham Clinton is pulling ahead from her 3rd place loss from Iowa. Regardless as to how well he does in the primaries, the Democrats are probably going to stick with Clinton as a safe bet instead of Obama. Huckabee will probably get the Republican nomination. What I want to know is, which candidate are OtakuBoards citizens going to vote for? Or are you going to vote party? Or NOT vote as a protest against the corrupt nature of the government? Who do you think should be allowed to run for president that isn't *COUGHCOUGH*ahnold*COUGHCOUGH* Could you be a better "Leader of the Free World"? The answer to that last one is probably. Bush has done pretty much crap his whole time in office. Here's the race I want to see happen this 08 election: Republican: Mike Huckabee Democrat: Barack Obama Independent: Stephen Colbert Stephen should be back in the race. He would have carried at least three states, and he was only running in one. Who should win?

What people do for a living is none of my business, but people should have more pride in themselves than to have to stoop to that level. Its just degrading for them. Why can't they find another way out? A good arguement could be made either way, but I'm on the side of "It's WRONG!" I won't say that a prostitute's a bad person, but I will pity them.

This thread is just to see who, if anyone, would be interested in this. I'm going to give some background info on the game world and what general course the story would take. If people like it, I'll make this into an RPG. ************************************************* There are only two constants in the universe. All things are created. All things shall be destroyed. Even time and space are subject to this law. With every second that ticks by, we come closer to the end of the world. The demons have always tried to hasten the arrival of the end. They have slaughtered their way through thousands of worlds, leaving none alive who would oppose them. Of all demons, there is one who is unstoppable, one who saw the beginning of time and who wishes to see its end. Cife. But the innocent peoples of the universe are not alone in their struggle against the demons. Cife's own brother, the angel Gabriel, leads the armies of the heavens against the vast demon horde. The war has lasted for years untold, a secret know only to the two brothers. Every new planet that is discovered becomes a battleground as both sides seek to establish it as a base. On inhabited worlds, the battle is over which side gains the newly discovered species. The latest batleground is the world of Atlas. The latest prize are the humans. It was only from this planet that Cife ever fled in fear. One human was able to best him, the first king of men. But mankind is not ageless as the demons are. Now Cife has once again begun to try to conquer Atlas. His lieutenants, the Sins, are warring with the angels and their allies on the nearby planet of Chronos. If mankind wishes to escape destruction, they will have to choose a side and end the war before it reaches them. But who would travel across the stars to do battle with a nearly unstoppable foe? ************************************************ That's the basic premise. Demons are trying to set up a 'jump point' on another planet to make it easier to conquer the humans'. I don't have to say that this is a fictional universe do I? In order to make sure it goes smoothly, this would probably use the chapter system. Part 1 would center on the humans (players) searching for a way to travel to Chronos and growing stronger. Part 2 would take place on Chronos and would culminate in a battle with, well let's just say it'd be a really powerful demon. Not Cife though. The players would be playing humans (maybe certain demons/angels) and would choose the basic fare: weapons, magic, fighting style, motivation, and so on. Did I mention souls? That's how the characters would get stronger. Every time you kill another living being, you have the chance to add their soul to yours. The more souls you have, the more powerful your magic becomes. Even if it is controversial. So, there's the gist of it (jist?). Any ideas for improvement?

Discuss A Fantasy RPG Concept, with a Christian Twist
Inculta_Bellum replied to Aberinkula's topic in Theater
If Terraprim is a topsy turvey world then you could switch Light = Satan and Dark = God, just for good measure.
That makes a lot of sense. And since these religions are what everybody's going to make of them anyway, someone could definitely see it like that. And I love the idea about prophets. This is starting to look more like an RP and less like an apocalypse scenario. Don't know what we're fighting for yet, but that's probably coming up soon. Question: Is there some sort of rebellion going on in the Prophetism church? Like a religious civil war? Just a thought. A church that large is bound to have old and young generations with conflicting ideas on the faith. It's been one of the driving forces behind religious development in our world for more than 2,000 years. -
How Did You Come Up With Your Screenname?
Inculta_Bellum replied to duorocks17's topic in General Discussion
My screenname is a Latin phrase which means Waste War or War of the Wasteland (depending on your translator). I came up with it while researching for a story that I still haven't finished writing. I thought Inculta only meant desert, but that's the way it is. If you've seen the orginial Japanese Desert Punk, then the tag line makes more sense with it.:p -
Discuss A Fantasy RPG Concept, with a Christian Twist
Inculta_Bellum replied to Aberinkula's topic in Theater
That sounds believable, the whole each religion uses different magic idea. But remember where Prophetism has the most power on Terraprim. That'd probably be because either their magic and technology is more powerful than other religions', or they use a more diverse array of them. -
Discuss A Fantasy RPG Concept, with a Christian Twist
Inculta_Bellum replied to Aberinkula's topic in Theater
If we're not using the name 'Christianity' anymore, then what should be used? Time to create a list of fictional religions! 1. Voodoo 2. Joniatry 3. Premendu 4. Illegitimacy Yes, I know those are all crap ideas. Yes that is my voodoo slap-n-the-face. What you need to do is just take one important word from the religion and add some sort of suffix to it. But what do I know? -

Hello everybody. I am Inculta Bellum, or however you would prefer to shorten it. I love most anything that can be read and am trying to write my own webcomic with a friend of mine drawing it. Why Otakuboards? Why not? Seems full of friendly and oppinionated people. I hope to get to now you all better soon! -
I don't think there is such a thing as a universal definition for love or hate. People decide how they define hate and love and then apply that definition in real life. But what do I know? Do I love people? Yes, my family. Especially my dog. I love him so much that I would go overboard and seriously hurt someone if they mistreated him. I think that's the kind of fanatical love that people here hate. But he's my dog! As for hating people, I say I hate people but not really. When I say I hate someone, I just mean that if they were hanging off the side of a cliff I'd let them hang for a few minutes before pulling them up. If I truly hated them I'd be stomping on their fingers. Love and hate are really strong emotions that I don't feel easily. But it is easier for me to love someone than it is to hate them. And I thought I was a pessimist.

Discuss A Fantasy RPG Concept, with a Christian Twist
Inculta_Bellum replied to Aberinkula's topic in Theater
So this is essentially another world in which the term 'Christianity' is applied to a religion with only somewhat similar beliefs to our own but is plagued with magic and technology? And I don't mean plagued in a bad way. -
The Grasshopper Swordsman Part 1: The Archer Girl Strange people walking around in town is usually an excellent topic of dicussion and gossip. Unless you live on a major roadway. In which case strange people bring with them strange, and valuable, merchandise and money. Crossroads are a merchant's natural habitat. And at any rate, the young girl buying fruit didn't seem all that strange to the shopkeeper. She was probably in her late teens, a little more than five feet tall, with shoulder-length bronze hair, and a body as slender and lithe as the many arrows in the quiver slung over her shoulder. "Archery is something that most women wouldn't practice." the clerk said as she paid for the goods. "Most women don't travel at all, let alone by themselves." she replied. He chuckled. "Besides, these are dangerous times. I don't want to be the victim of some demon." "Alright then, sorry to pester you. Just curious miss." She smiled at the kind old store owner and turned to leave. It was time to get back on the road. But when she reached the door, "You wouldn't be staying for the festival, would you Miss Archer?" She turned and asked, "No, I wasn't. What festival are you celebrating?" "Oh, we're not celebrating anything. It's a competition. A wrestling tournament this town holds every year for the wanderin' folk. I just didn't want yourself getting hurt in it." The young archer became suddenly upset. "What makes you think I couldn't fight in a wrestling tournament? I'll have you know tat I'm plenty strong, stronger than most men in fact!" The shopkeeper's face became grim as he replied, "I've no doubt. You talk about fighting demons, that's not something every man could do. But these aren't ordinary men competeing here. They're like demons themselves. In fact, the champion once killed three demons at once, with his bare hands. Ask anyone in town. It was a public display." A man who could kill three demons, with his bare hands! This could be fun, she thought. Smiling, she asked the question that was burning in her head, "What's his name?" "Baer." Part 2: The Tournament A warm noontide sun was beating down on Firdon (which the town was called) and its inhabitants as they gathered in the square. It was a large area, surrounded on all four sides by the most important homes and offices for the waypoint and one cobble-stone road leading out from each compass direction. The main attraction was a massive fountain in the shape of the Angel Lord Gabriel, holding his hands towards the heavens. Today, the attention of all was not held by the majestic stone structure, but rather by the arena set at its base. It was large and firm, but padded to prevent death or serious injury for the combatants. Onlooker kept a good ten meters between themselves and the edge, partly to get a better view of the fighting and partly to keep from incurring the fighters' wrath. In all there were sixteen men standing on the rim of the arena. Each looked like fearsome warriors with their hulking bodies, giant muscles, and grisly hair. The bronze-haired archer thought they looked more like barbarians than warriors. But she'd let them have their fun. The man called Baer was instantly recognizable. He was the biggest and wildest looking of the lot. "No wonder that's his name. With that forest on his skin he looks exactly like a bear standing on its hind legs." she said aloud. But there was something else about him. His eyes were pitch black, cold, merciless and cruel. He wasn't as ridiculous as the rest. Baer was a man who would take the surest path to victory: kill. As the thought raced through her mind an official looking man in some form of ceremonial clothes (it looked like an old lady's dressing gown) made his way to the edge of the arena. He raised his voice to be heard over the crowd, "Everybody knows why we're here! To crown the strongest man on Atlas! You men all know the rules. If you are unconcious or dead, you lose! The winner of each fight will advance to the next round, until only one is left standing! Please try to stay within the ring this time, Baer." The giant grinned down at the portly figure. "Alright miss. I won't stray this time. Just get on with it and keep my trophy warm." The poor judge shrank back into the crowd and rang a bell. The contestants apparantly knew who was fighting who as two of the brutes stepped into the ring. It was a boring ten minutes for the archer, watching two big sweaty men wrestle each other to the ground. If this is sport, she thought, then I'm a chicken. Eventually, one muscle-brained idiot won (after strangling his opponent almost to the death) and the next pair of fighters stepped in. This time her interest was piqued. There was a third ogre, but his opponent must have been hidden behind the others' bulk. He was much smaller than his adversary, at least a full head shorter, and was much more lean. She couldn't see any of his features because they were hidden beneath a large, and slightly silly, bright green cloak cast about him. The girl had the sudden image of an angry boar charging a tree. She knew who would win. The ogre couldn't help but laugh for his luck. He had been given an easy win! He stepped forward slowly and lashed out with impressive speed for one of his size. But all for nought. "Where'd he go?" Then he felt a tremendous pain in his face and was sent flying. Before he hit the ground, the ogre was ko'd. The crowd was silent for a moment, trying to figure out what they had just witnessed. The green man had leapt clear over the ogre's arm, which had been at his head height! And then proceeded to kick him with enough force to knock him out of the ring. Slowly, cheers began erupting. What an upset! No one could have predicted such a quick battle! Yet one person watching had. After five more matches, each exactly the same as the first of the tournament, there came the final match of the first round. The last ogre was up against Baer. And he was frightened. This fight lasted less time than the green man's. Baer simply walked towards his shaking opponent, took his head in both hands, and snapped his neck. It wasn't a fight at all, but sanctioned murder. The six remaining ogres were visibly unsettled. It was impossible to gauge the green man's reaction, although he had not moved during the whole fight. The archer was disgusted that these people would allow violence, and even use it as entertainment! This is why I avoid civilization, she thought. The next round went much like the first. The green man dispatched his opponent with a well aimed series of kicks, the ogres wrestled for the longest time, and Baer crushed his opponent's heart with a powerful punch, leaving him to die on his own this time. The third round was exactly the same. The fourth, and final, round of Firdon's fighting tournament would be between the tiny green-cloaked enigma and the hulking, brown Baer. One thing that everyone watching knew was that only one of the two would be walking out alive. *Didn't get too many reviews that first time around! Luckily I've planned most of the story ahead so i should be able to update this again tomorrow. I'm not going to edit Part 1 other than taking the red color off the text. But seriously, please post a review after you've read this. Otherwise it won't get any better!*
