Well besides trying to ignore the news coverage that will undoubltly be on about it being the one year anniversary of the campus shooting at Northern IL. University and being slightly annoyed that it's single awarness day again, not much. Probably watch Rodan.

One of my buddies held a premiere for this shoet film yesterday at his house. It was better than I was expecting. Fanboy Pop culture galore. Really funny. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7pw7l_the-greatest-fan-film-of-all-time_shortfilms

Forrest J. Ackerman has died. To some of us on the board his name probably means little to nothing to. But to others, he means something. A very great man who's influence can still be felt today as passwed away yesterday from heart failure at age 92. He was the founding force behind such fan-zines as Famous Monsters of Filmland, Creepy, and Eerie during the 1960's through the 1980's. It was his format of a these magazines that can still be seen today in wide rage of hobby magazines. I'd go into more detail but it would just be easier to just read the wikipedia about him. Kicking the Bucket: My Most Gruesome Thread Yet
onenuttytanuki replied to Lunar's topic in General Discussion
Having survived Cancer a few years ago, I really try not to think how will I die. Although I have a feeling its going to be interesting. :blulaugh: -
This is probably getting into a whole weird fan fic terriory. Have you ever been watching something not Anime and thought hey I wonder what would if this character meet up with such and such from this Anime/manga.? What ones have passed through your mind? For example: Lupin the 3rd vs. Diabolik For those who don't know here's a link to the wiki on Diabolik and Lupin the Third. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diabolik http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ars%C3%A8ne_Lupin_III It just seems that a face off or chance meeting between the two could prove to be interesting in the right hands. Both are master thiefs with character traits that almost mirror each other.

Anime Anime Central 2008 in Rosemount IL,,anyone going?
onenuttytanuki posted a topic in Otaku Central
First off this probably the wrong forum for this. But anyone planning on going to Anime Cental 2008? -
Ok, I'll admit that I'm a casual fan of Death Note. I've read about 75% of the Manga and haven't gotten around to watching the Anime. Any who, I just got back from seeing Iron Man at a near by theater and one of the trailers was for the limited release of the first Death Note movie on May 20th and 21th at 7:30 P.M. Central time. OK, so I'm willing to guess that some of us already knew about this, but I thought I'd make mention of this for anyone who didn't know. Since I was kinda of surprised to find out that it was going to be playing around where I live.

Spring what is this Spring you speak of. Here in Illinois, the only real seasons we have is Winter and Summer. Spring and Fall are kinda of the same, one moment it can be close to 80 degrees next thing you know it's 45 degrees, sometimes within an hour. That a side, Spring for me is basically the time when the count down towards Summer Break begins at the school I work at and I get read for the various conventions I plan on going to during the Summer in the Chicagoland area and to work Summer School. * I was going to quote the MST3K version of "Case of Spring Fever". But I can't think of anything that would go with my post*

You have to admit it's a good marketing ploy to release the Genshiken OVA one episode at a time with each Kujibiki Unbalance DVD. I slightly annoyed since I had planned on not buying any new anime before I go the convention I'm going to in May. But now that I know that this is coming out I guess I'll pick it up since I can find it for around $14- $20. So who else is think of picking it up?

onenuttytanuki replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Otaku Central

Anime: Just finished Excel Saga currently watching Black Blood Brothers vol. 2 xxxHolic Vol.1 Legend of Black Heaven vol,3 Solty Rei vol. 1 And thanks to a most of the GameStop stores in my area having a buy 2 dvds get four free deal going. Trigun (minus vol. 3 and 8) Steam Dectives vol.1 Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis Kiddy Grade Vol.1,3,4 -Not as good as I was expecting.- Manga: Currently re-reading Variante vol.1 -
Not to open an old wound. But one can see how some people can say that Disney ripped off Nadia when they made Atlantis. Of course these are the same type of people who will point out how much Kimba the White Lion and The Lion King are similar. The elements are there ,yet, then again you could find the same elements in a few other shows and movie,. But just not as clustered together.

I am currently working on putting together an Anime/Manga swapmeet for Anime Central 2008 in Chicago, IL. Can anyone could give some tips or hints in doing a Swapmeet. So far the tentive rules I've come up with and posted on our forums have been. 1. Anything anime-related ( DVDs, VHS?, Manga. Books, Magazines, Toys, Posters/Wall Scrolls, electronics) can be traded as long as it?s not Bootlegs, weapons, Food, and/or drinks. 2. Any adult materials must be covered and only shown to people that can legally view them. 3. You are responsible for your own stuff , so stay with it at all times. In fact, label it and/or keep it in a portable container. 4. All trades are final. To ensure that dvds work properly. Anime can be tested before final trade on a portable dvd player if one has brought one. 5. Trades are worked out between both parties. 6. No cash for items. The panel room I'm think about getting at the con is a medium size one with con security near the only door in or out. That hopeful will have a few tables. Plus, since no one really wants to deal with having to sign up with the Illinois Department of Revenue , its been decide that there will be no fee to get in to the swapmeet if it goes through.

Well it seems to be that time of year at the Big Lots in IL., around where I live, where they carry a good selection of past Anime titles put out by Bandai for around $3 each, So far I've noticed the ones around me carrying differnt dvd volumes of the following titles. Love Hina Magical Meow Meow : Tarotu Yazzui Dragon Drive Panda Z Various Gundam Cowboy Bebop Argentosoma Galaxy Angel Z Banner of the Stars 1 and 2 Hoop Days IPGX Infinite Ryvius Overman King Gainer Planetes Saber Marionette Wolf's Rain Zegapain Yukikaze Mamoru Oshii's Talking Head Plus: Steamboy It's mainly vol, 1 of this vol. 4 of that, no complete runs of anything, just enough for the anime fan who has been wanting to try a series tbut haven't wanted to spend alot on until they are really sure, Plus supplies are limited to what is in the store. Although it is nice to find still in the wrapper new anime dvd that usually go for up to $25-$30 for $3. Anyone else have such luck with their Big Lots?

#1:"That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with strange aeons even death may die." #2:"Burnt to a crisp, Eaten by a doggy" #3: I've done a lot of crazy things in my life. But, I've never stuck my head in a hornet's nest. #4: "Unless..." (Sorry coudn't resist. Anybody know what the above are quotes from.) No seriously I haven't thought what I'd want my tombstone to say. It would probably say something like "Friend, teacher, Godzilla fan, interesting to be around." Although I've already jokingly told my friends that before I'm put in the ground I'm to be steaked through the heart and bullet through my head. Just in case. Plus, in my obitutary I want it listed amoung other things that I was proceed in death by my right testical that I lost to testicular cancer.

Anime Your Anime/Manga Look Alike [Image Heavy]
onenuttytanuki replied to Aberinkula's topic in Otaku Central
As far as who could be considered my anime/manga look alike the closest that I can think of is Jujoji from Giant Robo minus the red eyes and my mustaches is more Vincent price like. But my hair is kinda of the same length and color. -
The writings of Ray Bradbury done in the style of the 1980s/90s tv. show. Where each episode is an adapation of one short story or a larger story over a few episodes. With some many short stories like Fog Horn , Besides a Dinosaur, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Sound of Thunder, and I Sing The Body Electric to choose from it would make for an interesting series. Fahrenheit 451, Martian Chronicles, Something wicked this way comes, and Dandelion Wine / Farewell Summer would work well as their own sepreate series or told over a few episodes each. My personal picks/ and reasons outside of having read them. Fog Horn: I've seen comic adapations and the 1950's movie that was inspired by it ( not to mention a certain Japanese monster.). Sound of Thunder: Comic Adapations were good to fair depending, the live action movie was awful, and don't recall having the chance of seeing the T..V. versions (outside of the Simpson's Treehouse of Horror V segment parody). I Sing The Body Electric: The action versions were good. But this story could almost be an Anime OVA. Also I'm just going to go ahead say the works of H.G. Wells, Harlan Elison, August Derleth, and Robert Howard,

Anime Anime Cels, what's the best way to get them framed
onenuttytanuki posted a topic in Otaku Central
About a year ago, I got a few production cels from Giant Robo : The day The Earth Stood Still. Now I'm wondering what would be the best way to frame them. Each of them has the matching Douga. would it be wise to have the Douga framed seperately from the the cell with them frame or have it in a pouch or something in the back. If anyone is wondering what ones I have. One each appear to be from the same sequences as the following cels that are posted on Measly Cels o'da kami.
Or maybe one of Brian Jacque's Redwall books. Who doesn't love sword-wielding mice?
My votes would be for Taggerung, High Rhulain, Euilia, or the original Redwall and Mattimeo combined. It couldn't be any worse than Animated series that ran on PBS. Ok, I know it's not a classic , Regina's Song would be interesting. If I didn't think there was to much Vampire Anime, I'd say Anita Blake, but the earlier works before it was basically who was with who. The Giver, now that would be a book that would interesting to see as an anime.

An anime version of Orign of Species? I don't know why but I'd probably watch it. It would really depend on the Animation studio. Call of Cthulhu or something else by H.P. Lovecraft. I mean there is enough Animes out there with Lovecraftian themes why not some based on his writings. Come on couldn't be any worse than the AIP Films from the 60's/70's.

Something that has crossed my mind what happened to the other Helicopter, the one that the Lily was on? Also, I wonder how long till one will be able to get Slusho buttons at say Spencers or Hot Topic. I know Hot Topic has a t-shirt with the movie poster on it. But aside for that I haven't seen any other tie ins for Cloverfield,.
