Anime What Anime/Manga Would You Adapt Into A Live Action Film?
Ender Wiggin replied to stararnold's topic in Otaku Central
I have always been of the opinion that we should be very careful what we five the Hollywood treatment as far as aniime/manga goes, since being true to the source material, making it entertaining to non otaku and keeping the budget in the range of doable, while getting a producer that would be wiling to pick up a project and not butcher it : juggling all these variables could make for a very interesting challenge and maybe a flop of a movie. but with the success of transformers, its going to be the new thing Hollywood does, and there already off to the races with speed racer(crap) and the dragon ball Movie(megacrap) . one thing to keep in mind is not just how popular a franchise is but how good of a story it would be on the big screen. film is a slightly different medium and different storytelling techniques hold sway. but if I had top chose the series I most would want to see on the big screen. definitely Full metal Alchemist the only story worth telling would be the story of his becoming a state alchemist, I would do an abridged version that has the death of Nina and the arrest of her father as the conflict and the alchemy exam as a possible lead in to a sequel. -
I agree wholeheartedly for Ender's Game making a good anime and Redwall seems like it would be a perfect fit. I would like to see an anime of any LOTR-ish book just to see a different take on modern western fantasy but it could easliy be disapointing the fans of the books if it wasnt done just right .

if I were to create this hypothetical anime series what I would like to do would have most of the writers and animators be japanese but have two or three good americans for each and ahve it dubbed in english but simultaniusoly with a pprimary japanese version. the mediuim of anme is japanese and any work that would inspire me enough to do a show of would be heavily influenced by japanese culutre and story telling techniques. however I do not like subtitles in a that I dont neccesarly think of the characters in stories as ither english or spanish, they just are and so in my min d they would speak in the language that i think in but would still borrow a lot of inspiration from toehr cultures. plus, while I prefer dub to sub, I wouild want to keep the original version as ealsy for its intended market to consume and would want to personalyy oversee how the dubbing( in any language not jsut english) was hanlded to kepp the story and the style of the dialogue consistent between the difficulties of language. too many dubbed anime (IMO) have to meddle with the story a little to resay things that dont translate well or have different ways they couild be said, and I would want the original story creators to be allowed to keep zas much of the essence of the original possible. but overall i think it would best to make it primarily a japanese produciton.

I think bobobo is the most idiotic television show ever, beyond anime or cartoons or anything, it just seems like trained monkeys could have done better. but other than that most anime I have seen have at least some good merits in my opinion. I don't particularly caree for one piece but I think it is well made and original and action packed and has good stories, they just dont appeal to me. the american version is way, too juvenile too. I've heard that the japanese version was way better but I just dont think I like pirates and anime mixing, although h I like pirates alot and am even in a pirate crew at a ren.fair. I think naruto is actually pretty original and considering that to be popular a good genre show, book, whatever has to what people that like that genre want the characters and plots to do and be what they like, and the shonen genre in general is pretty cookie cutter, so to work in that framewor and stiil make you feel like - the story has that feel of some overarching vision or plan that the author is just letting you into his head to enjoy each week and you cant help but love and interact with that vision too- is worthy of some respect, even if you know whats gonna happen because its just like every other overhyped superpopular shonen. inu yasha just went on way too long. I like the show but I mean a plain old 26 eps. showe would have been more enjoyable, after the first two seasons most of the good ideas were used, the rest was just" oh people still liike this show. lets make more and as long all the characters act the same they wont know we are three episodes past where we planned to end the story" but even saying all that I still like the show. pokemon really stopped apealing to me when i got inot high school, but I think it was a genius idea at the time.

I am a huge fan of digimon Primarily seasons one and two, espiicailly the way the characters progessed from season one to two. the villians seemed more contrived in the second season and while I would prefered if they continued the same story ( season three might as well have been another show altogehter that just copied the same idea) but they did need a new change of pace to freshen things up. I really like season three until I started missing episodes then it just didnt pull me back because i felt no compusion to know whast happened, like I did with the first two seasons. Tk and Kari forever

Even though He was a villain, Ii thought
Kimimaru's death
was really sad. the way they introduved his life and his unswavering loyaslty to orochimaru, and then the last attack that would have won him his great victory , his dream of beeing of use was shattered by his own bodies frailty, very touching.Reminded me of
Haku's death a little although i think Haku's was a little more touching.

So it is true that
naruto is the son of the fouth hokage
. I thought he was just because it never says what happpens to his parents other than they died in the attack and all of the flashback pictures showing members of the hokage family looked like reletives of his, especially, icant remember his name, but the boy that tsunade got that necklace from looked almost just like naruto and wasnot he suppose to be someone in the fourth hokages family, im not usre I will have to rewatch some episodes.
but is it canonized that naruto was the fourth hokages son or not.
from Fma there were three deaths that made me cry, literally cry. first was
nina's transformation and death , and the Maes Hues's death. and I know He didnt stay dead but the way envy killed Edward really gut punched me.

Wolfwoods death
from trigun was very well done i think although I didnt like him dying , it was the right way to go dramatically. very emotional, although i didnt cry

My top five has changed so many times since I became an otaku that it had to become a top ten and then thre switch places depending on my daily mood, but I think I've managed to get caught up on the shows iwas interested and enough info about whats around that ihavnet seen to know that this list wont change too much even as I still expand my horizons. The top three are in no particular order. When a show is so good it makes you as emotionally invested as i have been in these, it becomes hard to decide which is better. 1. naruto- this will fill the number one slot for now, as this is the show I am currently most caught up in and addicted to. the characterization and plot develpoement is simply epic. the inerplay of the relationships and each ninjas personal motivations touich me on an emotional level, while the action is some of the besat in all of anime and the fight sequenceswould make the Wachowski brothers wet themselves if they had to make it live action. the art is has alot to do with how the action can be so good and naruto has some of the best art in anime with out being over the top grounbreaking but just honewst to goodness artist whoknow how to draw a good story. 2.Full metal Alchemist- the tragedy and heart of this anime is not to be outdone. the subject matter has the emotional resonance of a greek tragedy, a religiophilosophical epiphany, and a sci-fi- fatasy epic, epertly blended into one. I can honestly say that FMA has changed the way I view the world. Not alot but thats still a big deal for a animated tv show about two tennagers. 3. digimon digital monsters- yeah, I know its a kids show, but im a kid at heart. I remember waking up saturday mornings just for this show. the character are a little juvenile but the remnd me of me and my friends when i was a kid, you know except without the talking plush toys or the saving the world. the plot line is surprisingly complex in it own action packed way. 4-10 4. Inu yasha is just a good fantasy tale that keeps me coming back for more. I think htis show is way too episodic and i dont care if miss an episode, so i wont watch to night, and then I will still stay up and watch it , sometimes the same episode ive seen ten times. shamefuilly addicting 5. case closed\detective conan- this would be higher on my list but its hard to get hold of. what can I say I like chibis. plus a good romance keeps me hoping . 6. cowboy bebop- the anime equivalent to a classic space opera meets ,spaghetti westerns . swashbucking and martial arts action at its best. 7. DB\DBZ\DBGt- even with all their flaws(juvenile writing , half episode long grass grow sequences and a saga that goes ten episodes too long) Dragon BAll z is addictive. cool fight scenes and an uber hero with an addictive art style. 8. Neon Genesis Evangelion- artistically speaking( not art as in animaiton but as in story and vision) this could be the best anime in existence, its just a little too deep and angsty for me to get too caught up in. 9. trigun is the best western-esque story ive ever experienced . i love this show and i hate westerns. of course it helps that all the scifi elemnets make it more of a bigger story. trigun is a classic anime hero, and wolfwood is one of my favorite side characters because his story is so deep. 10.FLCL - while alot animes love to take advatage of a certain unreal toony quality to accentuate humorous moments and can't help but send me rolling on the floor laughing with thier silly characters and hi-jinks , strictly speaking I dont like animes that are not more drama or action oriented than anithing else ( im looking at you bo bo bo bo and shin chan ) but FLCL is the standout exception . hilarious and packed with metaphores, double entendres and hidden meanings, htis is the funniesst and most action packed seven episode long show I ve ever seen.
