GRAH My cousin just screwed up my new laptop... I lent it to him for 5 minutes and in that time he saw I did not yet have Microsoft Office installed on the laptop (he's at that age where he's just discovered fonts and colors in Microsoft Word and he's fascinated by it). He decided to be "helpful" and downloaded some 'FREE MICROSOFT OFFICE DOWNLOAD RIGHT HERE I'M TOTALLY NOT A VIRUS' crap and now there are freaking pop-ups and junk all over the place and the laptop is slow as dirt now. Every single security scan I run says that there are absolutely no problems with my twitchy laptop. *grinds teeth* I'm pretty sure I have no other option than to stab my cousin.

I got 80/99. My GT was 115. Yeah, I'm trying really hard to prepare for BT but that's in terms of physical fitness. I don't know if there's really a way to prepare mentally other than the fact that I want my MOS so bad that I'll go through pretty much anything for it.

Oh wow I haven't posted for a while. Lots of stuff has happened... Another senior in my class died, for one thing. I was homeless for a little while after some issues at home. That was probably one of the scariest things I've been through. Luckily I had friends that were willing to take me in and a couple teachers brought me food and toiletries when they realized what had happened. And after that fiasco I decided to join the Army, and I'll be leaving for boot camp in August. I graduated today. I'm not in high school anymore, though that hasn't quite sunk in yet. Just... So much has happened.

Today was awful. One of my very good friends died in a car accident. He ran off the road into a tree. It's only three weeks before graduation... And now I'm mad because the jerks that bullied him for the last four years are sitting around feigning sympathy and sadness with stupid Facebook statuses. "RIP you will be missed :(" No. I want them to be learning some sort of life lesson about not being turds to people. NOT pretending like they ever gave a crap about my friend when they treated him like gum stuck to the underside of their shoes.

I finished two ten-page papers in two days. I never want to see another freaking scholarly article again.

Eeeewwww.... Why'd you have to be that way, Alla?

I left my job at the nursing home because that was depressing and awful and I never wanted to work there in the first place and I'll never work in a place like that again. But now I'm working in an Emergency Room and everything is beautiful and lively and I'm helpful and good at what I do. I mean, I was good at my job at the nursing home, but now I actually ENJOY my job.

Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
chibi-master replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
I can understand that! XD But yeah, Neji's 'maybe' death didn't really affect me much. It came out of nowhere with absolutely no focus on him in more recent previous chapters. Heck, I think he may have died in the same chapter he finally showed up in. Only the Neji fangirls cry tonight. -
Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]

I just powered through all 621 chapters of Naruto since I couldn't remember where I left off the last time I was into the series. It's nice to see the 4 Hokages and all that, but Hokage #1 has a much different personality than when he showed up at the Chuunin exam arc. One could argue that Orochimaru had wiped his personality, but that didn't seem to be the case when I went back to take a look at it. -
OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH GUYSGUYSGUYS I got into my first-choice college!!! Ahahahaha~!!!! *rolls around gleefully*

I got my very first ear piercing today! It's just one in the lobe, but it looks nice and I like it! I noticed, however, that while my left ear is fine and I can barely feel it anymore, the right one is aching.

I'm outside of Buffalo.

Alla, you live in my general area now! It's 15 F here so I'm pretty well off.

Are there any anime quirks that you just can't stand? Here's mine: I hate when characters do that weird gasp/chunky breathing thing every time there's more than 2 seconds of silence. Who even does that? There's no reason that anime characters have to whimper quietly just because no one's talking.

So... I have a kitten now. He's a Burmese and his name is Marshall. I got him because my dog died the day after Christmas and the house seemed empty and I was lonely. Marshall is adorable, though. And he has a sassy face.

Congratulations! He looks adorable!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfclgYT7h-A So they just announced Generation 6!!! And you'll be glad to know that the reign of Fire/Fighting may have finally been brought to an end. The new Fire starter seems to be Fire/Psychic. I've also heard rumors that the game's going to get a worldwide release in October, but I still need to find a source for that.

Uh, Inu? Allamorph and I were talking about my friend, not the shooter. I think you may have been a little confused there.

I decided to go into pediatrics because I can't stand children suffering. And then I read about THAT. Then one of my friends from school had a breakdown in my math class because he got an emergency call on his cell phone. His second cousin was killed there today. They were really close, apparently. Another friend and I carried him to the Guidance Office and it was horrible. He was a mess and of course there was pretty much nothing that we could say to him. This is disgusting. It's already bad enough to hurt people that have nothing to do with your problems. But these were children. Who hurts children?! That's not even human.
Ooooh. That burns me up a little. I want you to march right back to your teacher and ask her very indignantly what her reaction would have been if you had chosen Emerson, Thoreau, Frost, or Eliot. I am willing to bet dollars to donuts she wouldn't have said one word against it. That is poetary discrimination and I am VERY OFFENDED. =P (But really, I am.)
Funny thing about those four poets you listed. They were all chosen for this project by other students and the teacher had no problem with any of them. Multiple people chose Frost and Eliot, actually.
-
I think maybe my problem with a lot of poetry is that I have trouble understanding parts of it. Words, meaning, etc. I'm probably just mistaking my own ignorance for pretentiousness on the part of the writer. It took me a lot of searching, but I think I finally found a poet that I'd be comfortable doing this project on. I decided to go with Pablo Neruda. I actually did try to sign up for Poe since you both recommended him, but my teacher said she wouldn't allow it because, "Everybody already knows Poe. If [I] did the project on him it would be like cheating."
-
So I'm supposed to pick a poet to do a lot of research and stuff on, but there's a problem... I usually can't stand poetry. Maybe I'm just stupid or something, but a lot of poetry just strikes me as pretentious and angsty. Does anyone have any suggestions for poets whose poetry does not come off that way?
