Their music is so pretty Darren. I've been following the links after checking out the one you posted. I really like this one from that album: Vorrina Pi - E.S. Posthumus It's just so soft and soothing. The melody and the occasional choral work is well done.

I'm going to try and visit my family, but I don't know if it's going to happen or not. I hope so since I love catching up with everyone and helping my mom make all sorts of goodies for the holiday is fun. We have a tradition of picking a few new recipes to try out each year. I've already been looking at stuff for this year since I'll end up trying something even if I can't get home.

Too many things to respond to. o_O Just as on some level I don't really know what to say either. On the one hand I've been raised and taught that such relationships are wrong. Then on the other, I believe people have to make their own choices and that it's not my place to do that. I don't agree with the sentiment that it's necessary to protect marriage by passing these laws. Especially when any religion has the right to deny performing marriages for same sex couples. A state marriage is outside the jurisdiction of any religion, or rather it should be. I support the separation of church and state for a good reason. I do agree with the sentiment that it's something that will take time for any progress to be made. With different states enacting these laws, that's pretty clear. It's going to take a concession or intervention to restore those rights.

Manga Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle [Warning: Spoilers]
Sabrina replied to Aya_Fujimiya_42's topic in Otaku Central

Thinking about it fully now, as I only said that as a random thought, that may actually be the case. Once Cherry B.'s memory feathers were scattered way back at the beginning, she was completely KO'd. Even Yuuko, I believe, said she would die if she didn't get atl east one of them back soon. And since there is a long standing belief that a body can't live without a soul, there's actually a high possibility that Fei Wong somehow created a starter sould of sorts for the clone and let all her experiences reinforce it from that point once he sent it out into Clow Country proper.[/color']
That would also explain why so much time happened before her memories were scattered. If it happened too soon, there wouldn't have been enough (memories) to make up for the fact that she was a clone at that point and essentially soulless; since her original soul is elsewhere. On some level, I'm still a bit confused over why Fei Wong didn't just let her die to begin with. Though I assume it was necessary for making his wish come true. Honestly, when it comes to this series, the further I get into it, the more I go... o_O
This, though, is pure conjecture, and CLAMP thrives on completely shattering that, so... :/ lol[/color']
This I have so noticed. I haven't gotten anything right in this story. Though that does make it more fun to read. I wish we didn't have to wait two weeks for another chapter though. XP -
Barack Obama: Confirmed to be 44th President of the United States
Sabrina replied to Mr. Maul's topic in General Discussion

You're still not grasping what my message was in my post. I'll edit this tomorrow when I have more time to elaborate on this. Also, I'm confused with the statement I bolded. I know I said I personally was ashamed to be Californian. Can you quote the part in my post where I told everyone is to feel ashamed like you said I did?
I referred to the wrong part of your post, I was thinking of this part here:
I find it truly hypocritical of Californians (and Floridians for that matter) to elect a preacher of change yet in the same breath vote against it.
Sorry for the confusion. I hope that clears up what I was trying to say.
The "spread the wealth" thing essentially seems to relate to the prospect of increasing taxes on higher income earners and lowering taxes on the middle class.
My understanding, based on what I've looked up and read is that some of this so called tax increase will be to merely allow the tax breaks that were set during the Bush administration to expire like they are supposed to. So yes they will be paying more taxes. They'll be paying what they use to before the tax cut that was never meant to be permanent to begin with. -
Barack Obama: Confirmed to be 44th President of the United States
Sabrina replied to Mr. Maul's topic in General Discussion

I'm afraid you've mis-interpreted what I meant. I was speaking in general terms, California elected Obama and California passed Proposition 8. It's not an assumption, it's a fact.[/SIZE']
It's also a fact that quite a few people voted against it. Passing doesn't mean everyone supported it. So to tell them they should be ashamed, when you don't know if they voted for both or not, is what I'm saying is a silly assumption. Some probably did, but I'm sure there were plenty who did not. Plus I'm well aware that it's a fact (that the deal passed) I'm only calling to question the assumption that those who voted for Obama, also voted for Proposition 8, it's a fine distinction, but it is one to think about. Keep in mind: "Voters approved the constitutional amendment by a margin of 52.5 to 47.5 percent, according to near complete results." So all I'm saying is that it's a stretch to assume that those who voted yes, also voted for Obama. Unless you have the hard data on how people voted that you can link to. And yes I know you're being more general in your statements. I just think general statements of "you should be ashamed" are inflammatory and don't really solve anything other than to perhaps vent your own frustrations. -
Barack Obama: Confirmed to be 44th President of the United States
Sabrina replied to Mr. Maul's topic in General Discussion
I'm not sure what to post really, I had such a hard time making up my mind on who to vote for. o_O I'm not unhappy about it though so I'll just sit back and wait to see what happens when it becomes official next year. I do have one thing to kind of comment on and that would be this here:
I find it truly hypocritical of Californians (and Floridians for that matter) to elect a preacher of change yet in the same breath vote against it. [/SIZE']
That's assuming that the same people who voted for Obama also voted for the ban on same sex marriage. That's a pretty big jump/assumption to be making don't you think? We had a similar ban against same sex marriage come up here a few years ago. And though it passed, I don't feel ashamed for being a Utahan. Why should I? When I read it and realized that it discriminated against all couples (including straight) who were not married, I voted against it. -
Sorry for the absence. ^^ My computer decided to die over the weekend so I had to wait until Monday to take it in to be fixed. Aftershock As part of her magical training, Phaidra had heard about and actually been taught the fundamentals behind setting up a trap. Her teacher at the time was a war veteran himself and was well acquainted with many of the nasty traps used back during the war. Sensing one was the easiest part, determining just what it was and how to safely disarm it was where the difficulty lie. The more she studied it as she circled it, the more she got a feel for how it was constructed. There was a poorly made shield over it, but either the person hadn?t known what they were doing, or at the time they cast it, they had overextended themselves. There were some tiny errors in how it should have been tied into the trap, resulting in the energy leakage that was being picked up. It should have been cloaking the residual energy from the ward, but instead it was actually keeping it in the area, making it easier to pick up on, at least to someone like her and Sarvel. Based on what she could see, she was pretty certain that she knew what it was and just what type of trap they were dealing with. It was much like looking over a massive spider web, she could see the lines and what would happen when they snapped. Just as she could vaguely sense what it was holding inside. She pushed her glasses back a bit with her forefinger before extending her hand out to form a tiny arcane circle, about a foot in diameter. Phaidra sent the tiniest whisper of power through it to test the edge of the actual ward. She pulled back immediately when one of the smaller lines holding the trap in place snapped. So that?s the trigger. That means it?s for? She shook her head and finished her trip around the trap, being careful to not accidentally snap any more lines to the ward. ?What do you think Phaidra?? Sarvel asked her when they were done. ?We could trigger it, but that would let whatever?s in there out.? ?I know, and it?s powerful enough, that we could find ourselves with a serious situation on our hands.? She folded her arms across her chest. ?Considering what the trigger is, you know that whatever is in there, will be more than we can handle. The sheer amount of power wasted just to set and contain what?s inside it is staggering.? ?Someone has noticed that we are checking into what?s going on.? Sarvel concluded. ?The threshold for triggering it something no human is capable of, most vampires aren?t either. It?s clearly meant to catch Reapers.? ?I know.? Phaidra let her arms fall to her side as they approached the group. She wasn?t surprised when Lucia immediately wanted to know what the deal was, so she told them. ?So in other words, if we had entered the building, our presence would have triggered the trap.? Chris said flatly. Phaidra nodded. ?It?s designed so the lines will snap when they come in contact with someone who is in tune with their spiritual energy. Shinigami, by our very nature are very much so. Vampires do tap into it as well, but not to the same degree. The chance of a vampire or human managing to trigger this trap is pretty slim.? ?What do you recommend?? asked Chris. ?I want to collapse the trap, destroying what?s inside.? ?Won?t that destroy the building as well?? ?It will.? Phaidra confirmed. ?What are you talking about?? Lucia interrupted. Sarvel tilted her head to the side before answering, ?When a trap is this large, it has an effect on the real world. If we turn it in on itself that will cause a disturbance since they are both occupying the same space. So as a result, the building will be crushed as well.? ?I thought we wanted to check the place out. If we destroy it we?ll learn nothing.? Lucia pointed out. ?So what your saying is there?s more in there than we can handle.? Chris smirked. ?Or rather that it?s possible there would be more than we could safely contain.? ?I am.? Phaidra asserted. ?Fair enough,? Chris replied. ?How are you planning on doing it with just the two of you though? Don?t you need to cover all five focus points for something of this size?? ?Yes and no. If you, Lucia and Ruby are willing to hold the focus for three of the points that I set up, Sarvel and I can handle the rest.? ?Alright.? Chris agreed. ?Wait a second,? Lucia objected. ?At the very least let me finish getting scans of the area, those are not spiritual in nature so that shouldn?t trigger the trap.? ?The sooner we deal with this the better.? Phaidra said firmly. ?You stay here to cover this spot Lucia, I?ll go and set the others up first, once I?m done, we need to deal with this.? Phaidra could see that Lucia wasn?t happy about it, but leaving a dangerous trap like that around was foolish. If another Shinigami in the area wandered into it by accident? It wasn?t that difficult to get the others in position. Phaidra had each of them take one of the five focus points for the actual ward. She would be building the actual arcane circles needed for her and Sarvel to implode the trap on itself. Chris and the others merely needed to use their spiritual energy to keep the circle from collapsing before she could tie all of them together. Setting Chris up was simple since it was obvious she was familiar with the concept. She tied her own energy into the arcane circle that was up between her and Phaidra without hesitation. With a brief nod she went to set up Lucia while Sarvel was working with Ruby. Lucia took a little bit longer, but not by much. Then, once she was in place she quickly cast the circle at her end before sending out the lines of spiritual energy to tie into the others. To her eyes, she could see them as they formed and then flared as she, along with Sarvel immediately launched into casting the spell that would surround the ward and then force it in on itself. Another thin line of energy raced from both her and Sarvel in each direction, to the person on either side, causing another circle to form just in front of the first one. Symbols from their language formed along the outer edge before flaring and then spinning slightly. Then the circles suddenly moved towards the center of the trap. There was a brief hesitation when they encountered the actual edges of the trap, Phaidra could feel the resistance and poured more of her energy into the lines. You will collapse! She smiled slightly when she felt Sarvel doing the same. A split second later, a boom sounded as the circles overcame the resistance and swiftly converged on the center location. Upon hitting the home, the arcane circles tore right through it, resulting in another loud boom that sent debris into the air. Most of it bounced off the first set of arcane circles that Phaidra and Sarvel had cast. As soon as the storm of debris settled down, with a nod in Sarvel?s direction, they dissolved the links. Phaidra smiled grimly. That takes care of that. There were some lingering traces of the original trap, but they were fading quickly, indicating that it had been successful. Now all they had to do was check things over before heading back home.

Likewise, you can argue for same-sex marriages (an institution that is characterized by a statistically much higher incidence of divorce. Several older statistics indicate other dangerous tendencies)
An institution that currently can't get married, also can't have a higher rate of divorce. With only a handful of states even allowing it, there isn't enough long term data to accurately declare that one has a higher rate of divorce than another. Until it's allowed on the same level as the currently accepted form of marriage, any statements like that are inaccurate. Just saying. Plus trying to make same sex marriage look like it's a choice that is based on or even similar to bestiality only makes you look stupid. We're talking about people who regardless of skin color or gender, are still a member of the human race. There is no logic in comparing a practice that really is between two different races and one that isn't.

Going My Way Phaidra wasn?t late, but she still hated to be the last person to arrive. It didn?t matter what the deal was, being prompt and on time mattered to her. The others didn?t seem bothered by it, but still. She put it out of mind since it wasn?t important and her tendency to worry over stuff like that was out of place. ?We just got here,? answered Lucia. ?I?m getting a scan of the area; as soon as I?m done we can proceed.? ?My familiars are checking the area as well.? Chris didn?t actually smile, but her calm demeanor was far more welcoming than Lucia?s matter-of-fact nature. I don?t know if I?ll ever get use to that, she thought. Though perhaps if I understood why? She put that out of mind too. As much as she wanted to pry, mainly because she couldn?t shake the feeling that it was more than a desire to be alone, it wasn?t the time for that either. ?I don?t know where the building in question is,? Sarvel chimed in. ?But I?m not sensing any dead spots in the area at all. There are some odd traces of magic, but that?s it.? ?And I?m picking up some very faint energy readings as well.? Lucia added. She held up the communicator she had so the others could see. A tiny map of the section of the city where the vampires had been was on the screen. The energy readings were marked by tiny little dots of a different color. One appeared to be just above the home the vampires had occupied with one on each side and two jutting out at the bottom. ?Sarvel, take a look at this.? Phaidra moved over so she could float over and take a peek. ?Interesting. We?d have to actually get closer to not only test it but see if that?s actually what it looks like.? She speculated. ?What are you talking about?? Lucia demanded. ?It?s possible that it?s either a ward or a type of magical trap.? Phaidra explained. ?Those points where you?re picking up a slight reading, based on their actual location, could be the focus for either a powerful ward or a trap.? ?I didn?t see anything like that for the ward you placed on my place.? ?You wouldn?t, it?s too low key for that.? Phaidra explained. ?The only reason something like this might show up is if the ward was designed to handle more than just a small section of the city or if it was holding the trigger or rather the actual trap.? ?If you go back to the vampire wars,? interjected Sarvel. ?Something like this would hide the fact that there are creatures like undead dragons or wraiths. It was also used to keep them pinned in a type of separate space altogether, so that when the trap is sprung, the target would find themselves surrounded by what had been hidden.? ?There?s only one way to find out.? Chris? eyes narrowed. ?Unless you wish to check that right here and now.? ?It would be better if we were closer. It?s possible that what she?s picking up is something else after all. However,? Phaidra elaborated. "If it is a trap and I trigger it by mistake, it could release what's being held into the city." ?Let?s get going then. We?ll be right behind you.? Chris said. Phaidra nodded and took the lead; she couldn?t feel anything just yet. Sarvel?s ability to sense magic was much more attuned than hers was. She didn?t like it though. If Lucia?s scanner really was picking up on a ward or spell, it would have to be really powerful. At least she thought it would. I need to find out just what that thing she uses is capable of doing.

Trying to bring a little lightheartness until we get into all the debating stuff...........but apparently, that didn't work, so, think of it any way you want to. :catgirl:
When someone asks you a question, joking instead of answering it will only make me disposed to never take anything you post here seriously. Especially on a topic like this. And since you pretty much dodged the question by leaving it up to me, there's no point in responding. I'll go with how I was interpreting the question to begin with.
A blob as in something who's life is worthless. Kinda like a blob of strawberry (or grape, whichever you prefer). Just for clarifaction...............carry on!:catgirl:
That's kind of a bit of a contradiction since you're operating on the premises that an undeveloped child is a life and that falls directly back into religious beliefs. So that doesn't really clarify anything. To make it a fair question, you need to be asking is it a person or not. Instead of is it a person or a worthless person. See the problem there? You didn't really ask a objective question but rather a biased one.

o_O I am going to conveniently skip most if not all of the posts, I really dislike some of the dramatization that I see going on in threads like this, in addition to the lack respect towards other members who see differently. So with that being said, I'm giong to simply answer the original post.
"Is an unborn baby really a person?"
It depends on your beliefs. By the faith I belong to yes. However, that makes my definition extremely biased and only appropriate to me and others who believe the same. To put it in other terms, among my faith, it is seen as the physical body that will house the soul.
Is an unborn baby really a person or is it just a blob?
You really need to define just what you mean by 'blob.' You may have done so already, but I really don't want to wade through the posts just to find out. If you're trying to say is it human or simply a collection of cells... Literally, in the beginning it is just a bunch of cells. Living ones to be precise. I'm not going to get into the concept of one's soul being present from the beginning since again, that's a religious belief and not based on actual fact.
Is abortion still wrong if the woman is raped?
As much as I find the idea of aborting a pregnancy distasteful, it's clear that there are times when it will be necessary. My understanding is that there are some types of health issues that simply can't be cured. So it's either abort the pregnancy or possibly kill both the mother and the child. I think Indi mentioned one type of pregnancy where our medical technology is useless at this point, so there is no choice or option to save both. Rape I think illustrates the need to not get narrow minded and assume everyone aborting is doing so over selfish reasons. Or rather reasons that could be seen as selfish. It's an extreme that only shows how important it is to realize that all cases of abortion are not the same. These need to be addressed on a case by case basis by a trained professional instead of legislators who to be frank, usually don't know what they are talking about. Plus if I go around telling others it's wrong to abort, I am doing so based on my religious beliefs, there is no getting around that. It's my moral views and religious upbringing that tells me it's wrong. So in the end, I cannot, if I am honest with myself, think it's acceptable to force my religious views on someone else. I would be appalled if some other religion came along and started dictating how I can live, so I think it's highly hypocritical to assume my own is somehow better. Keeping that in mind, I personally think the best course of action for addressing human rights is to focus on preventing unwanted pregnancies in the first place. I already know it's not my place to make others choices for them so I'm not going to try.

...almost. Yuuko intervenes and gives him the choice, to which he agrees. He is then doubled; he, the original, goes to Fei Wong, but the other[/I'] 'original' (who is Watanuki) falls under the protection of Yuuko to live out his own future.
I was really surprised by this, but then quite a bit of this series has surprised me. I haven't managed to guess what's going to happen at all, every time I think I've got a handle on what's going on they toss in something like this that has me going... o_O I really need to get cracking on reading xxxHolic to see if there are any other connections like that one. It really makes the series fun since instead of predictable turns, like expecting a clone of Syaoran, they weave things like this into it. So at this point, I'm guessing the clone came later because the interference on Yuuko's part messed up what Fei Wong originally had in mind. And yes I so agree... Fei Wong is a [insert bad word here]. -
Dream Yourself Far Away ?You ready to join the others?? Phaidra nodded, ?I?d rather not but at the same time, if we don?t, who will?? Phaidra hadn?t expected to have another location to check into so quickly, but when Chris had sent a message to both her and Lucia about looking into another ?thought to be? abandoned location she had agreed to go. She still didn?t like dealing with humans who had been affected by vampires, but she liked letting other Reapers or humans die even less. ?You still thinking about what we discussed earlier?? Sarvel moved closer until the two were almost touching as they flew to where they were to meet Lucia, Ruby, Chris and her familiar. ?Kind of, it?s not like I have a problem with doing this it?s just that?? She trailed off. If anything these excursions had opened up more lines of research in addition to giving her hard data on actual fighting. She wanted to head back and question why it seemed like nothing was really being done, but she knew she didn?t fully understand what was going on. So instead, after lengthy discussions with Sarvel, she had decided to do what she could on this side, for now. ?I still wonder if we?re doing the right thing.? She finished. ?Why? The vampires are supposed to be dead, all were doing is cleaning up a mess that shouldn?t exist.? Sarvel snorted. ?I don?t know why they keep it a secret though.? Phaidra didn?t either, there was nothing saying that Shinigami couldn?t deal with vampires or the creatures that served them. So hiding it or saying nothing seemed pointless. Just as going back? maybe it was best this way, at least for now. If she went home now it was likely that her concerns would be dismissed. But if she waited until she had enough data to prove that Reapers were dying for no good reason? Phaidra sighed. ?What?s the matter?? ?I?m just wishing more was being done to address this. No matter how I look at it. It seems like people are being sent to die for no reason.? It was a thought that she didn?t like. The idea that their own Council would be so careless with their lives. It went against everything they believed in. ?How did your meeting with the editor go?? Sarvel changed the topic. ?Huh?? Phaidra stared at her blankly for a moment. ?Oh, right. It went fine.? Sarvel hadn?t shown much interest in her side project, other than the occasional outburst of irritation, though that had been settled a little while back. She thought about the meeting and smiled. It had gone better than she expected. Both of the tiny books were going to be combined into one. Unless something went wrong, the combined cookbook would be released in a few weeks. ?Good.? Phaidra chuckled. ?I thought you didn?t approve of that.? ?Eh? like you said before, it will keep them from calling your place so I guess it?s okay. Anyway, looks like the other two are already here.? She indicated the small city they were approaching. Phaidra looked for them and then nodded when she finally saw the group waiting at the outskirts of the city proper. They turned to face her and Sarvel as they approached. ?Sorry to keep you waiting.? Phaidra said as she joined them.

Viktor would have had a hard time believing that something like this could happen if not for the mix up earlier at the outpost. The display on the monitor in their quarters was all too clear; the Von Braun was on a collision course. They were going to crash and it looked like no one could stop it. ?We?d better get to the emergency access point.? Misha said. He looked to Viktor who nodded in response. ?If that chart is correct, they?d better load up the shuttles quickly or else they?ll run out of time.? Viktor wasn?t an expert, but he had learned quite a bit for when it was time for him to take over running the family business. Unless they were using different measurements for the distance and time, they would hit that before people could be loaded onto the shuttles, even if they went directly there. What are they thinking? At this rate we?re going to crash and no one will be ready. Why did they wait so long to do anything? These thoughts and more were running through his mind as he and Misha made for the lifts leading to the rest of the ship. ?Sir.? Viktor came to a halt; the press of people rushing to get to the emergency access point was chaotic. It was clear that some of them were on the verge of panicking in spite of the ship?s crew trying to calm them down. Even more disturbing were members who were trying to bring along valuables. Voices were raised as people shouted at one another, and small luggage bags only added to the confusion as people kept running into one another in their attempts to get onto the lifts first. Other than to grab some emergency care kits and stuff them into a bag on their way out, Viktor and Misha had left everything else behind. Possessions were meaningless in a situation like this. ?What do you want to do now?? ?We?ll have to wait.? Viktor clenched his hands tightly into fists. ?Trying to fight our way through that,? he shook his head and looked up to one of the displays showing the progress of the Von Braun. ?There isn?t enough time.? For the longest time Viktor watched the crowds of people getting into the lifts, it was possible that he could fight his way through them, but someone like Misha? Frustrated he whirled in place and headed back to their quarters. I can?t do anything. I can?t even see if the others will make it to the shuttles or not. Damn it! ?Sir! What are you doing?!? Misha?s worried voice called out as he followed Viktor. ?Hurry Misha, there isn?t much time.? Viktor called back as he started running. They had to get back to their quarters. It was too exposed otherwise. If the ship really did crash, their best chance would be to find a spot where they could hole up in their quarters and ride it out. Viktor and Misha had barely made it back to their quarters when a voice came over the Von Braun?s loudspeakers:
WARNING, COLLISION IMMINENT. IF SEATED, USE THE BRACE POSITION. ENSURE ALL HATCHES ARE LOCKED AND SECURE. DO NOT STAND UP. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR ROOM. COLLISION IMMINENT. BRACE FOR IMPACT.
The door to their quarters slid shut as the ship lurched wildly, turning the once flat floor into a slope that sent both of them sprawling. Viktor rolled head over heels, coming up into a bit of a run as he tried to keep up. For the moment the quarter?s field that kept the furniture in place was still working, but when that quit? We?re likely to be killed by stuff flying around unless? He reached out and grabbed a hold of Misha?s shirt, pulling him over as he made for the small closet by the door to their quarters. ?Misha! We?ve got to get into the closet!? He let go and braced himself as both of them hit the wall between the closet and the door to his quarters. Ignoring the pain from where he hit his knees, he reached over and opened up the door. At the same time he reached over and grabbed Misha?s hand, helping him recover from slamming face first into the wall. Just a little more? he yanked hard, causing both of them to stumble into the closet before the door slammed shut. A split second later the sound of furniture hitting the door was heard before an even louder, more terrible roar could be heard. Viktor did his best to brace himself as a deep vibration started rattling the very walls of the closet him and Misha were in. They had gotten back in time, but would it make a difference or not? He smiled wanly at Misha?s frightened look and then hung on as the vibrations got progressively worse sending both of them to the floor. A split second later the contents of the closet tumbled down on both of them. Viktor felt like laughing, even though their situation was far from funny. Instead, he did his best to keep both himself and Misha from being tossed about, hoping he had enough strength to survive the crash.

Although, for some reason I can see Indi being a low key rapists. (Saw it on Law & Order: SVU...)
O_O That's something they don't tell you when you sign up to be someone's roommate. "Oh by the way, they're a rapist!" I'm not sure I believe that one though. I mean Indi? :blulaugh:
So we can like...cuddle under the blankets in front of a crackling fire with hot chocolate and cookies? Well okay then!
Along with watching movies and enjoying the fact that the snow is outside instead of in... that's always fun. Incidentally, I'm good at making said cookies and hot chocolate.

o_O I don't hear it at all. The only thing I get is possibly the last word light. I'm going to agree with the others, people are hearing something that just isn't there.
