Sandwiches, the best thing made WITH sliced bread
Sabrina replied to Jabberwocky's topic in General Discussion
I have so many sandwiches that I like. But one of my favorites is grilled chicken on toasted rye bread. With lettuce, tomato, red onions and a bit of mayo. I never get tired of it. :catgirl: -
I go back and forth between using the pink and the blue. I used the geisha briefly when it had the Lucky Star Christmas banner on it, but that's the only time. The indigo, though nicely done, is too dark so other than to look at it, I never kept it for any length of time. On another note, no school and homework is divine. I'm really glad I decided to not take classes during the summer. I love working part time and having no homework once I'm done for the day. :catgirl:

I don't have a lot in my car. It may be old, but I like to keep it clean. ^^ So other than the basic manual and other papers that have to be in the glove compartment, all I have is some cd's, change and some old blankets in the trunk. I don't really count the stuff for changing a tire. Oh and I have a little scented satchel that sits in the little spot where you'd normally keep change. Since I don't smoke, I keep the spare change in the ashtray.

Sir Darren sums up what I understand it to be. Beyond that, my first thought upon browsing through this thread was, there's no way I'm clicking on ANY links in here. *really hates the ones that mess up one's browser >_

Photos are a different means of communication that convey a different set of truths than words. These truths are no less significant than those of words. To say it another way, if the public currently has no problem with waterboarding but might change their minds if they actually saw photos of it taking place, then the bit of truth in those photos--the visceral, physical reality of waterboarding which can't be communicated as well linguistically--is important, and needs to be communicated to the public. Of course, I can see the need for a large amount of secrecy and information withholding on the part of the government, and I support that, but that information is to be withheld on the basis of national security, not because the public might demand change from the government if that information were exposed. In any kind of democracy, it should all come down to the will of the people. Will many important matters and people be seriously compromised if a formerly unaccounted-for government is suddenly held to the standard it was sworn to in the first place? Yes, but government officials should've anticipated that when they first began to neglect the will of the people. Would the damage of exposing certain information, of finally setting certain deeply-wrong things right, really compromise the whole nation to the point of collapse? Possibly, in some cases. The only thing to do then is try to right the wrongs from the inside out, and just don't let that **** go public. But I think most of our government's wrongs can afford to be exposed, and must be, in spite of the fallout.
I understand what you are getting at, but what I was trying to say was; does changing current policy, actually require public release of the photos? My understanding is that prosecution of those involved does not. I'm not saying they should never release them, I just wonder if it's truly necessary at this point. If keeping them under wraps is necessary for security, so long as those who should be prosecuted are, then I don't see a problem. If it's just to protect an image, that I don't agree with.

Now that I'm off for summer, I'm playing Animal Crossing: Wild World again. I was so busy with school that I stopped playing it for nearly five months. It took me a while to weed and clean up my town. I'm also getting rid of some of my fruit trees. I have way too many of them. Heh.

More to the point, if it was only so far into the future that Spock was still alive, how the frick was it even that big? The ship had to be bigger than a fusion cube. And it was a mining vessel[/I'].
I was surprised by that when I saw the film, it was so huge that I was expecting it to be something else. o_O So that just didn't make any sense to me. Other than that, everyone has already touched on the things I enjoyed about the movie. I just hope that any further ones focus a little more on having a much stronger villain/plot vs. reintroducing the original crew. It was okay for this one, but that's it.

It's kind of unrelated, but based on your post Darren, I get the impression that Sarvel would ignore Terry and Fiero as well. XD I just got a very clear image of her finding them annoying and it made me giggle. :catgirl:

Well I'm old enough to vote so if they do attempt to pass this, I'll be 100% against it. If you want to get fair, you have to start taxing everyone who doesn't own a home. There are quite a few people living here who rent so under the logic they are presenting, they don't pay their way either. Also, like Sir Darren said, part of our city is looking to waste millions of dollars just to change their name and logo, so if they're really so short on money, why are they doing things like that which serve no real purpose? The whole thing is just a shallow attempt to tax a section of the population that contributes quite a bit to the community. Students get loans and grants and work in order to pay tuition, which in turns funds those who work at the schools. They pay rent, buy food, pay utilities, the list of what they do that goes into the community to support it, is pretty long. Plus, my family owns and operates a business here in the city. I'm currently working at one of our locations. So to think that because I'm also going to school means I don't pay my way, is a complete and total lie. Even when I'm only attending school, I still pay for stuff that ends up being taxed at some point if not immediately.

Ultimately, our elected officials are supposed to do what we, the nation, wants them to do. That's kinda how this democracy thing works. So it flies in the face of everything this country is supposed to stand for to withhold torture photos on the grounds that the nation will balk at them and demand that those methods be barred from use.
Is it necessary to release the photos to the public in order to demand that such methods aren't used? I mean, clearly we know they are being used, so having additional photos proving it doesn't seem to change anything. Anyway, I agree with James, if we really want those methods to be discarded, we need to go after the legislation that even allows it in the first place. ^^

=_= That is pretty sad actually. They would have been better off just admitting up front that she had been sleeping around. Like Sir Darren said, that's going to be terrible for the girl to learn about when she grows up.

Oh gosh, the language of that bill is so vague that it's not even funny. =_= To a certain extent, attempting to protect children from every little problem they'll run into, is doing them a real disservice. It's better to be more involved with kids and teach them how to use the tools at their disposal to ignore those who would attempt to bully them online. The sentiment is nice, but ultimately flawed. Anti-harassment laws already exist and it would be more problematic, than helpful, for them to attempt to clamp down on every little thing that just might offend someone.

I think like Aaryanna, if they do pick that word, I'll just giggle over it. :catgirl:

My understanding was that those involved, had already been legally dealt with. I'm not completely sure since I haven't really followed this. But if that's true, there's no point in releasing the photographs. It's like dragging up old news that was already covered. Either way, I have no interest in seeing them. Oh and I do, like Allamorph, wonder why anyone would be dumb enough to take pictures. That's just... really, really stupid. However, I'd argue that torture itself is pretty stupid to begin with. =_=

Now go check out the fresh new "prose master" badge by Anomaly's custom title.
Maybe I'm just missing it, but I don't see anything. o_O Anyway, congratulations Anomaly. :catgirl:

Personally, I am not a Trekkie, however, growing up in a household with two of them, I pretty much learned everything about Star Trek through osmosis.[/COLOR']
I can understand that. My mom and dad really love the series so I picked up a lot of it from them. I do enjoy watching it from time to time, but I was never a huge fan. I'll probably end up seeing it since I'm sure some of my friends want to go.

For some reason, the site is running really slow for me. o_O I'll go to post a response to a thread and it will just sit there and hang for a bit. Oh and I'm done with Finals... yay! :catgirl:

I always have breakfast. I have a waffle maker and I love making them fresh. I mix things up by using maple syrup one day, fruit preserves the next, or fresh fruit, cream cheese, etc. Sometimes I'll make some sausage, bacon or scrambled eggs to go with it. I usually have some type of juice with it.

I usually took my own food because of the cost, but what they served wasn't all that bad. The few times I had it, the food was fine. They kept the place pretty clean too. I don't recall ever seeing one of the workers there being lazy or any of the things mentioned. If anything, most of them were constantly busy in order to keep up with the amount of people there. The services at the college I go to are fine as well. I don't use them a lot though.

Ironically, my worst food experiences are usually from my own cooking. I love to try out new dishes and sometimes, I mess up on the instructions. One time, I misread the amount of hot spices to put into a dish. I put twice the amount it called for. It totally unbalanced the rest of the flavors and I had to toss the entire thing into the trash. o_O One time, I misread how long to bake something and set the timer for too long. It took the smell of something burning for me to realize I had messed up. It was a type of oven fried chicken and when I rescued it from the oven, it was too scorched to eat. I had to open up all the windows to let the smoke out and then disconnect the fire alarm while it did so.

Now I'm not saying that swine flu is not dangerous as people already know that you can die from it, but I think the media has blown this up way too much. First off, under certain circumstances you can also die from the regular human influenza, pneumonia, and even the common cold.
I agree. On average the flu kills approximately 36,000 people a year. So though people have died from it, the current numbers are no where near that. However, that says nothing about whether or not it will keep spreading and actually become a real problem. I find the hype in the media a tad annoying at times, but I can see why they would rather err on the side of caution. Fortunately, like you mentioned, most people are taking it calmly instead of panicking over it. I only wish we didn't have 60 confirmed cases in my state now. =_= 18 in my area. I catch things so easily and I'd rather not get sick.

I don't know the cost for getting it here since I do not smoke. However a couple of people I know who do, have decided that the recent increase is a sign that they need to finally break the habit. One is doing really well so far, the other is still struggling with it.

I always do something for my mom. I already mailed her the little scrapbook of pictures of her as a kid that I put together. She thought I wanted the pictures to include in my own album, but since she's never gotten around to doing one of herself, I figured she would enjoy it. If I can, I'm going to actually drive down and see her, but I'm not sure on that one just yet. Mainly because it's possible they might be coming up here to visit the rest of the family. I won't find out until tomorrow sometime.
