1. First off, I want to thank James for giving me advice. Anyone here know exactly what it takes to get a quiz accepted on theOtaku? I've tried multiple times. Any suggestions? Please?:animecry:
 2.
As taught by the leaders of your denomination. But how can we know which words are literal and which are figurative? I'm not aware of any human being on this earth who has the divine right to decide what parts of the Bible are to be followed to the letter, and which are no longer relevant. You're African American, right? And a female. You more than anyone should be able to understand the desire for equal rights. Forty years ago, you would have not had them.
Well, it's kinda common sense, actually. You can talk to God and ask God which is to be taken literally and figuratively, isn't that awesome?:catgirl: I understand the desire for equal rights more than you would know..............however, I don't mind homosexuals getting married. It's fine, but it's wrong. I thought I said that twice before in this thread. You can do what you want, although it's wrong. Isn't it wonderful how God doesn't require you to do what's right and you can do whatever you want?:catgirl:
 3.
Yes. That verse means that to refrain from punishment is to cause your kid to turn out rotten. Still doesn't help you any. :p
Meh....................................you're just mean, Allamorph. That is, if I understood you right, what do you mean? By the way, I just changed my username to Calypso. I thought you meant someone else. :animeswea To Clurr: Almost all of the stuff in the Bible wasn't meant to be taken literally.
 4.
Chances are you would not be using the Bible as support for your argument for a debate about being disrespectful to parents. Retri just brought several verses in which the Bible gives parents the right to kill their children for disrespect to our attention. How do you feel about that?
:animedepr Sucks. Really, sucks. However, is there not another verse that says "spare the rod, spoil the child"? Hm. That verse that Retri quoted from the early Old Testement. Spare the rod, spoil the child is in Proverbs, later in the Old Testement. Maybe you're right, some things do change................ Nowhere in the Bible does it say that wearing mixed fabrics is a sin........I think. I'm treating my sins as hardly as I would homosexuality.
 5. To Retribution and Whoa, Mann: I'm not ignoring the fact that there are many other sins out there. I'm just replying to the main point of this thread. It's about sexuality. If there was one about being disrespectful to my parents, I would be debating in that one, too.If there was one about any of the others sins, I would debating there, too. I can focus on something else if you want, but I wanna stay on topic.:catgirl:
 6.
Avoiding the question (but the answer is that you can find shrimp and all sorts of nasty sinful things in a sushi bar). Why are there not riots and picketing over the other sins such as the food laws? Why am I not allowed to have my own salves, as the bible dictates, if I'm not allowed to be homosexual, as the bible dictates?
I'm not understanding you there.
 7.
Damn quote doesn't show up inside a quote... Anyway, it's a fine example of a contradiction. And even if it isn't taken as contradictory, my point still stands: homosexuality is spoken of in the very same text, yet slavery is an exception. As is eating all these animals you're not supposed to eat - why are there not religious zealots outside Japanese Sushi bars? Why are there not religious people picketing outside farms who produce pork? Because homosexuality is so much easier to dislike as there's a name to the face of 'evil'. Unless you can give me another reason, then I applaude you, or anyone, to do so. What makes homosexuality so different from eating pork? Remember all sins are equal.
What's in Japanese Sushi bars? I thought sushi was made of raw fish........whether you're relegious or not, you're going to have to pay the price for either sin you do. Pigs eat well-anything. If you think about where the pork comes from while you're eating it, it'd be easier for you to dislike it. same thing with homosexuality. To Retribution: I thought the saying "not to compel him to serve" meant not to make him serve. Since compel means to drive or urge forcefully or irresistibly. He can leave whenever he want with what he earned. So with foreigners, it's wrong because you made them do it.
 8.
Leviticus 25:44-46 (NIV) : "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."
Ah, okay then. Read that part. However,
Leviticus 39 states: And if one of your brethren who dwells by you becomes poor and sells himself to you you shall not compel him to serve as a slave.
You see, they weren't forced to be slaves, they sold themselves. That's completely different.
 9.
The bible says a lot of things. God also says we're allowed to buy slaves - why don't we, then?
To Vicky: Where so? To Indi: You are right, terribly sorry. I just thought Columbus came here under Christianity, gotta brush up on my history.........:animeswea To Clurr: About your second edit: everything has its consequences whether you get caught for it or not. Ties into what I was saying to Indi. So to all of you guys, what would you say this nation is based on? Christianity mixed with something else? I feel all alone here.........oh well, can't expect people to agree with me all the time. *sigh*
 10.
I've been wanting to go against this argument with one of my own for a while. Biologically, humans are not intended to mate with others of the same sex. Science can't disprove this. With that logic, eating meat must also be a sin. Humans originally had to fashion spears and go out of their way to hunt, whereas carnivorous animals were born with sharp claws, teeth, and senses, and great strength. Humans have to tenderize meat and cook it well in order to be able to chew it and digest it and not get sick, whereas carnivorous animals merely consume their prey raw. But every single Christian I know goes out for some fried chicken for Sunday dinner. The point is that there are many things that humans were not designed to do, but have found a way to accomplish. That being said, I fully support equal rights for all human beings. Blacks, women, gays, etc. I would always answer this kind of survey question with "Love is love," but Retribution brings up a great point that married couples have benefits unavailable to the unmarried (are these benefits not available for people involved in civil unions?), which is unfair to people who are legally unable to become married. This is not the 1800s, this is not 1920 or 1960. We should be above rights exclusions. At the base of matters, marriage originated as an institution of religion. So did Christmas. Now you have atheists and agnostics taking part in both. Okay. However, it may be a good idea to take small steps towards total equal rights. Civil unions should be legalized in every state (if they aren't already, I'm not very informed on the subject and I only know that same-sex marriages are still illegal practically everywhere) and should offer every benefit of marriage. To please the religious, it would be marriage before the government and not before God - not "marriage," so to speak. ...yep. (Disclaimer: I'm a vegetarian, but I'm not about to condemn anyone for eating meat. It's a personal choice, and this is America!)
Correction: We are allowed to eat meat because God said that eating meat was okay in the later chapters of Genesis, we just aren't allowed to drink blood and we really aren't supposed to eat food that comes from pigs or other hooved animals. Just to let you know.................and, excuse me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the U.S. founded under "Christianity"?
 11. ~nice job, cheese master!~ Victoria and Tetra fell off the wall as they watched "Ryo" and Eon dissapear into the portal. It seemed as if John or "Ryo" went almost willingly. "Stupid Eon. Who the heck does she think she is?! Making Ryo follow her like that. When I find her and those two little eyesore's, they'll pay!" Tetra looked at Victoria, tears were streaming from her eyes. She took a deep breath and was about to say something smart when she realized that Victoria missed him. Tetra got up and helped her. "V, um, I don't think that was John there." Victoria frowned. "What do you mean? Did you not see him?!" "No, I mean, I saw him, but it wasn't him. His voice was deeper, there was this intense evil in his eyes, and Eon called him 'Luthian.'" Victoria's face looked sick. "Really. I'm gonna find her and kill her! She's made my life miserable, and she's gonna pay." Victoria got up and ran towards the direction of the portal. Just as she got there it closed. "Crap." Her weapon appeared in her hand again and she was encircled by a dark green orb. "Linno yutre ca-" "Victoria, Tetra, you guys okay?!" Victoria stopped and span around, it was Mr. Takashi. The weapon and the orb vanished. "Oh my goodness, I thought you were dead! After that explosion, well the rest of the class was outside and you guys and John were gone. I'm so glad you're safe, you guys' parents would have a heavy lawsuit for me....a-anyways, do you know where John is? Knowing him he probably sneaked off somewhere.........." Tetra and Victoria put their heads down unsure whether to tell Mr. Takashi what really happened, considering the fact that he wouldn't understand it, or just make up a good lie. Tetra sighed. "Yes, Mr. Takashi, John wasn't feeling well so he told us to tell you that he left early." Tetra and Victoria looked at Mr. Takashi, his thin hand on his bearded face, hoping he would believe it. "He did, eh?" The girls took in a sharp breath, had he caught their lie? "Well then, that's okay. He's one less thing to worry about. Come on, the police wanna talk to you." The girls breathed out, they hadn't realized they were holding their breath. They followed Mr. Takashi out to the parking lot that was now full of cops and news reporters. "We're gonna be on the news!" Tetra said, trying but failing to make the situation less stressful. They made their way through the reporters who hit them in the head with microphones and elbowed them in the shoulders to the single police officer standing under the oak tree. The police officer took out his toothpick. "So these are the kids who were inside muesem, eh?" Mr. Takashi nodded. "I thought you said there was another, a young man?" "Oh, no. He left early because he wasn't feeling well." "Ok." The police officer nodded and gestured to his car. "Girls, I'm going to have to take you to the police department to question you. You're going to have to sit back there for a few minutes." he opened the door. Tetra jumped into the backseat as Victoria grimaced and slid in. "Hope my mom doesn't see me, she's gonna be so mad." Tetra smiled as they made their way to the police department, Mr. Takashi following and another car in front of them holding Shanice and Cathrine. This was going to be some moment.
 12.
5) I have no problem admitting that society does have problems related to sex, but it's hardly a problem shared by the entire population. And going back to a procreation-only system is not the right answer, nor is it even plausible to believe that would solve everything.
Uh, yes it is. Just because the whole population doesn't have a problem with the porno stuff doesn't mean that they are not tempted by it. Example: a husband who finds it hard to stay faithful to his life because women at his job are underdressing or shows on television make being unfaithful more appealing.
 13.
Surely you know what socks are correct? It's part of my style when it comes to clothing. Just about everything I wear is practical and comfortable. I don't have labels to list other than perhaps 'EMS' uniform - and even that varies a bit depending on where you live.
You silly! I know what socks are, I'm just a little confused why you're so picky about them. I mean, I don't care if I'm wearing ankle socks or long socks!!! Although I much prefer ankle socks, even in the winter time.:p Or even knee-highs, but only if I can find both of them.................
 14.
:pboo whoo for you people who dont like JB! lol I'm a proud JB fan! :D
Correction: boo hoo for those who don't like the Spongebob. I'm a JB fan, but I' m not proud. Agh! I didn't know Nick wore glasses! Now I doubly love him!:luv: Yeah, now you know I have a weakness for guys who wear glasses and have dimples............................
 15.
Exactly what I was thinking! Wow, this thread was populated by Jo Bro fans for a while there...thank you.
WHO YOU CALLIN' A JO BRO FAN?!:flaming:
 16.
David Bowie? Mick Jagger? Richey James Edwards?
You're forgetting one person. That is Prince.
 17.
Boys who cross dress are quite good looking as well.
NO WAY!!! :animeangr The only thing that's close to cross-dressing is guys wearing pink shirts..........then that's hot. Well only on one guy I've seen. :catgirl:But as far as them cross-dressing, thumbs down.
 18.
The fight for womens' rights and birth control started long before TV, and remember back in the 40s and 50s, TV wasn't filled with racy programs like it is today. People have the right now to enjoy sex in their intimate relationships without wanting to procreate. Like I said before, we've unshackled ourselves from the notion that it is only a biological means to an end. And your last statement brings us right back to the subject of this thread: a same-sex couple CAN'T get married, even though they are in love. This is applying a double standard: "If you love each other, get married, but you can't if you're gay, even though you're in love."
Yes, but they weren't gay in the first place, though. And in the 40's and 50's they had the same thing without television. I forget the name of them, but they went against wearing long dresses and went to wearing stuff that show a little too much skin. We were born with the need to love the opposite sex, not the same sex. I think the love between a gay couple is something completely different than love between a man and a woman.
 19.
But it's about more than just the pleasure when it's in an intimate relationship. It is combined with that emotional aspect of your love for the other person and their love for you, which raises it up beyond the level of lust or just satisfying an urge. And that love doesn't have to absolutely need marriage to be valid. We're more complex than other animals in our emotions and intellects, we have evolved in ways that set us apart from them. We have gone beyond the simple in-built need to procreate.
Evolution??? I don't think so. Me don't believe in "evolution." It's kinda dumb when you think about it.:animeswea Anyways, I don't think we have evolved, I think the need for sexual pleasure was built into us for procreation. The world is changing because the thoughts of people have changed because of television. And the Devil is influencing entertainment, that's bringing the relegious view into the picture. You're right that love doesn't need marriage to be valid, but are you saying that someone should not get married although it makes sense because they love each other so much? I mean, if they love each other, why not get married?
 20.
Sex in a monogamous relationship is also used to express love, not just for procreation. And the rest of your argument doesn't really hold up, because it's also a matter of people's own personalities and foibles. We're not all like that just because sex is pleasurable, some of us want to hold off from sex until we are with a person we truly love. I have no desire to go out and run wild merely because I believe sex is not only for procreation. I believe it's a noble expression of deep love that isn't something to be trivial about as so many people are, sadly.
Yes, it is. But most of the time, when people have sex, it's just for the pleasure, not for love. When someone gets married it's most of the time(hopefully) because they love each other. I'm not talking about a Vegas marriage, a marriage that they spent time on, a marriage in which they spent months engaged. So, it kinda matches up, when a married couple has sex they do it because they love each other and so they can procreate! Isn't it awesome the way some things work??:catgirl:
 21.
You don't need to say that God made sex for procreation (even though I think it was). That is almost a given from the various statistics that show that the healthiest families are the ones with steady parents with accurately established father-mother roles. If everyone was ordered more towards monogamy and procreation instead of entertainment, the spread of STD's would plummet, the prostitution and human trade industries (all their glorious selves) would cease functioning, the pornographic industry would dwindle, and thus women would get more respect. The cheating issues and bitter divorces founded off of late night flings would dwindle, abortions would drop in number... those are the obvious effects I can come off of the top of my head. I'm sure there are plenty of other positive effects that would occur.
So you agree with me? :excited: Yay! Seriously though........the world would be such a better place if sex wasn't used just for pleasure. Men would be more faithful to their wives because the porno industruy isn't exciting. Abortions I'm against.
 22.
I established the given that sex was pleasurable, and stated that people's obsession over the pleasure of sex was a big problem in the first post of this thread. What I am arguing for is that sex should be ordered to and largely reserved for procreation (even in it's pleasure).
I agree with you. Sex was made for the world to be populated. God made it a pleasurable experience so that women can have children and therefore more people can go to Heaven and help the world by being doctors, police officers, or just a cook. Yay!:animesmil
 23. Alright, in all seriousness, since I recently changed my username and password, I admire Calypso from Pirates of the Carribbean. Her accent is so cool and her hair is awesome. She has kinda a commanding aura about her. My avatar is the same thing and she has hair like me.:excited: As for my custom title, it's something she would say. She was cool up until the last Pirates of the Caribbean. That was when she did something weird.:animedepr
 24.
Socks I am extremely picky about. Right now the only thing I'll wear is Thorlo. Depending on what work I'm doing, regular socks just don't cut it.
Nathan..................................socks?
 25.
yeah but I like her too. but still it doesnt mean that I support her. idk if they do... I wish they wern't on her show. I didnt watch it... I i didnt want to. lol but I still luv em.:catgirl:
I agree with Anime_girl5. She can still love them although they like Ellen DeGeneres, without supporting her.
