1.
Well you see it wasn't really a spar. People posted a battle, sort of, between two anime characters and the best would be put up. Then next week, two new characters were picked. It's something like that, I think.
Aha! Now that actually does ring a bell. I don't remember being ever involved in it, but I do remember hearing about it.
 2. It's been a while since I've found a fanfic that really held my attention, but you've more than succeeded. Itachi is one of the most interesting Naruto characters, and you've given him a very fluid and believable backstory. Great work, keep writing.
 3.
Dues Ex is wrong anyway kido, because it did exist, christ, how come no one remembers?
I can't understand it myself Vic, I was on MyO a lot back then, and I would have remembered hearing something about sparring. But as Rach said, Adam would be the one to know.
 4.
I never threatened her directly XD I just moved across the table. I just told m friend I wanted to kick her *** if she didn't knock it off. And like I said, she doesn't just **** with my hair (which, BTW for me is a HUGE nono) she also has hit me a lot (used to have bruises).
Meh, whatever you think yourself, you want to go and beat up on a girl for "****ing with your hair" and giving you a few bruises, that's your call DB. Just don't expect me to support it. I would have suggested that you try to talk to her and explain that you don't like what she does, but after the jokes you cracked about her, which I'd say your friend probably told her, you'll be lucky if you're the one she doesn't leave treadmarks on.
 5.
Anyway, what kinds of things do you all do when you don't feel well?
Usually bed with a hot water bottle and a good book, well that and any prescribed medication from my GP, but that's just a given.
 6.
First off, I am amused.
Seconded. I mean seriously, this whole thing came about because you threatened to "kick her ***" because she pulled your hair ? What are you like six ? Grow a pair for Christ's sake. Secondly, in answer to your thread question, no DB, it is never OK to beat the crap out of a woman, no matter what she has done... yes, even pulling your hair and throwing mashed potatoes at you. Though in this case I actually doubt your ability to even do that if this "big *** *****" is as big and tough as you make her out to be.
 7. Ah, so this is that RPG you were talking about last night. No surprises here, I'd be playing the Irish insurrectionist, I can't imagine regardless of how history has changed that Irish people would be loyal to the British crown, it's just not going to happen D'Ann.
 8. Yep, I'm a definite for Deathman.
 9.
To everyone else: Would you want to become a staff member, and if so, which post would you want?
I suppose the fact I just submitted an application to the Event Master thread really answers that question, heh :animesmil Having working as an administrator on a separate site, one a lot smaller than OB, I have some idea of the work-load that actually goes into the job, though thankfully I never got any of the random IMs from random people. For a long time I was, and I suppose to a certain degree still am, interested in a staff position in The Arena, or the Theatre as it is now. RPing was always my first love on OB, but I think with Events, there's even more scope for fun.
 10. Heh, I promise, no Kumite this time around. :animesmil What is your availability? For instance, if you held an event where you had to tally votes, you might need to invest more time than usual. Well I'm on OB for probably an hour or so most weekday nights, and even longer at the weekends, so I genuinely don't think that I'd have any problems in having to invest more time here. Are you happy to work with members to bring their event ideas to life? Events have always been community-centric, so I see working with members as being the absolutely first thing any Event Master should be doing. For a long time I've believed that an Event Master should always be able to be approachable by members with ideas for events and be able to work with them to bring these to the rest of the boards. This way, there's always a stable supply of events, and members can feel that they have a genuine role in the process, rather than waiting for the Event Master to dish something out once every few months. List two of your own event ideas here. You will need to be able to bring your own events to OB, as member-driven events will not always be available. Otaku Tag Tag, one of those really simply games from our childhood, which along with Hide and Seek are often some of our best memories. So I though to myself, seeing as OB games are really fun, why not both and see if they would work. The basic premise to Otaku Tag is actually really simple. We take a group of volunteers and select one at random to be the first tag-er, then we give the others a buzzword, which when used by any of the players anywhere on the board will allow the tag-er to tag them, making that person the tag-er until he or she tags the next person who uses the buzzword. At the end of the day, say 9 PM, the current tag-er will be eliminated, a new buzzword will be given and we'll continue until we've got only one player left after about a fortnight. Now for those of you asking, just what the hell a buzzword is, the beautiful thing is it can be any word. For instance any of them that I just used there, and yes they'll be common words, so the only way you can absolutely guarantee that you won't get tagged is if you don't use the word. But here's the thing, you'll still have to act like a normal member, posting normally on OB, thus increasing the chance you'll use that word. For example, if the word was "work" I've used it already and can be tagged. The game is over when we have only one contestant left, and they'll be crowned the Champion of OB Tag. As for how to tag, well it's really rather simple, you just got into the topic that they've posted in, and make a post, including the word "TAG" in the first line. RPGs are a bit tricky, as despite holding a larger volume of text, they're limited in the number of people who can post. Maybe though you'll get lucky. OB Hide and Seek OB Hide and Seek is something that I suppose is somewhat derived from the Scavenger Hunt and Bermuda Triangle events, as it operates on a fairly similar premise. Again like Otaku Tag, it's a really simply game with really simple rules, as honestly "really simple" were my working words for any events I was going to do. Like Otaku Tag, OB Hide and Seek will involve a lot of players, as any good hide and see game does, though unlike a normal game, there are going to be eliminations, just so that things don't take too long. Unlike a normal game of H&S where everyone just darts off to hide behind trees and stuff, nobody will actually be required to do anything activity-wise out of the ordinary. Instead they're going to choose a location for themselves in some thread on the board, it can be anywhere where everyone has access to [Secret Yaoi Hentai forum posters take note] from any time period. You will then make up a riddle to describe this location for example: "The Manifestation of Renegade Hunters" Would be Maverick Hunters: Personification. You'll PM me your chosen location and I'll edit the first post and add the normal banner with your name on it and you'll then post your riddle in the Event Thread. The person on counting duty will have to wait 24 hours until everyone involved has their riddle posted, and then they have 72 hours to find everyone's hiding places. The first person caught by the seeker will be eliminated, and the next person will be the next seeker, who will take over after everyone has got their new riddles in. The end of the competition end, as usual when we have only one person left standing, and they get the Champion of Hide and Seek user title. Are you going to be committed to the job? Why should we make you Event Master? Am I going to be committed to the job ? Absolutely. I would never seek a position like this just because of the privileges that come with it, it would be selfish of me and unfair to everyone else. OB is a great community with fantastic members who I'm proud to call my friends, and in applying for this job, I think I can make the community even more enjoyable for everyone. As for why you should make me Event Master, I genuinely found this hard to answer. I believe that in being given this opportunity, the traits of friendliness, respect and fun which I have tried to demonstrate over my time here on OB would allow me to get in touch with members who don't feel well know enough, or don't have confidence in themselves, to get involved with other better known members.
 11.
It occurs to me that perhaps this thread should have been titled RPGs You Thought Might Fail. ...just sayin'.
Very true.
 12.
Organ transplants and bone marrow are alright.
Well now that seems a bit contradictory to me, though I suppose blood does hold a rather singular spirituality in the Christian world. It just seems odd that a person can accept someone else's bone marrow or organs if they're in desperate need, but not their blood. Here's the article on bloodless surgery which Ken made reference to in his last post. Seems to suit the needs of the JW community fairly well.
 13. Gabriel watched silently as Adam strode back out of the infirmary towards the elevator, there always seemed to be something troubling on the younger man's mind, must have been the "blessings" of being a psychic. Gabriel didn't relish having to explain the situation to Dana, it was an ugly thing, but she's already proven herself to be surprisingly resilient, it was certainly an attractive trait to a man pretty much immune to injury. "Let's get you out of those bloody clothes and into something more comfortable." He gave her a half-cocky, half-joking grin that only Irish men seemed to be able to pull off without seeming like complete perverts. Dana elbowed him in the ribs with a chuckle. "I could say the same thing to you, a hot shower might have you smelling nice too." Extending his hand, Gabriel offered to lead the way to a room where Dana could relax before finding out the truth of the background to their encounter, that and Gabriel really hated the smell of an infirmary. She took it and the pair gingerly walked down the marble hallway towards the elevators Adam had so recently used. Everything about Genesis Corporation's headquarters was supposed to be self-sufficient for it's agents, clothes, cars, gear and weapons were all available in-house and many of it's agents chose to live there permanently for the sake of convenience. The thirtieth floor housed Gabriel's own company-issued apartment, though given the amount of time he spent out in the field, he only rarely used it. The lift ride was surprisingly quiet, Dana seemed to be interested in taking everything in around her, only murmuring her appreciation of the building's ridiculously expensive and artistic design. Removing a key from within his jacket, he unlocked the door in front of him and entered into his spacious home. "No place like it." He sighed with a pent-up relief. Gabriel kicked off his shoes and collapsed on the couch about ten feet away. "Gabriel, this place is huge." The wide-eyed surprise in her voice caused him to chuckle softly. "The bathroom is over that way, you'll find some women's clothes in the closet to your left, pick out something you like." "You treat all the women who come to your apartment to this ?" "Nahh, just the special ones. It was Adam who arranged for the clothes, you'll be staying here for the next while until everything is sorted." She looked away for a moment, Gabriel had a feeling it wasn't everyday that she was told she'd be staying in a secret-agent's home for the foreseeable future due to her being in mortal peril. He wondered if this was how James Bond felt. "Don't worry about me, I'm just going to change and make my report to Adam. I should be back in about thirty minutes." Dana's cheeks were red when she looked back at him. "Thank you Gabriel, for everything. I wouldn't be here now without you." He hesitated before simply nodding as she walked off towards the bathroom. After the door was closed he blew out another sigh of relief, he just hated those really awkward moments. Shuffling into his own bedroom, stripped off, unwrapping the bandages around his chest and opened his closet doors... then he realised Dana was in the doorway. He really hated those awkward moments. "Oh...sorry....I...uh... sorry." If her cheeks had been red before, they were some new shade he'd never seen before now. Usually it was a while before women saw him naked, he fought the urge of his own cheeks to burn, he might have been standing there completely nude, but he wasn't going to let her know he was bothered by it. "You need something from me Dana ? NICE FUCKING PHRASING GABE !! He thought to himself a nanosecond later. "No...nothing. really...I was just going to ask where you if you wanted me to come along." Her eyes were thankfully on his face, and from what he had seen, they hadn't gone lower yet. "No... you're fine..." More nice phrasing he thought ruefully. "Oh, OK, I'll see you when you get back then." She walked back outside and he grabbed a pair of trousers and pulled them on quicker than he had ever done before. The door to the bathroom had just closed again by the time he finished dressing, it was definitely a new record. Exiting the room, he returned to the elevator and pushed the button for the foyer, he could find out where Adam was there. Thirty floors passed down before he was greeted by the huge entrance to the Genesis Corporation's building. Twelve huge marble columns stood guard, it was always an inspiring thing. Gabriel crossed the floor, then saw James Brannigan coming towards him. The only other Irishman in the field, Gabriel got on pretty well with him... That was until he got the flash message from Adam, he hated those things, it was like having an ice-pick driven into your temple, but it told him everything he needed to know. Pulling his gun from his holster, he pointed it directly at the other agent. "Get down on the ground James !" He watched as the other man sighed. "Not this again. Gabriel get out of the way, you can't stop me either." "Maybe not, but I do owe you for my nose earlier and all those gunshot wounds. They fucking hurt." "Move. Out. Of. The. Way." Grabbing his skull, Gabriel fought to try and control his body, but it was unlike anything he'd ever felt before, his eyes rolled up into his head, and once again he lost consciousness. "Gabe, Gabe wake up." "Oh fuck, not again." He looked into Adam's eyes and dropped his head in irritation. "Sorry Adam, I just couldn't stop him."
 14. Completely agreeing with Crystia, does anyone else want the U.S. government to pass an act allowing people to shoot members of the Westboro Church if they break their funeral ban ? I can imagine they mightn't go to too many more military funerals if there are honour guards.
 15. According to the article, the rumours go back as far as April or May of this year. I also did a little more investigation and apprently Bioware's latest project, codenamed "Texas" is an MMORPG, though it does not elabourate on exactly what genre or franchise it's based on. Fingers crossed though it'll be a lightsaber fest.
 16. We had a case something very similar to this a few years back, JW girl needed a blood transfusion to live, parents objected and the courts thankfully sided with sanity and ordered the doctors to proceed with the transfusion. Maybe it's just because I'm not a Jehovah's Witness myself but I really don't see what is wrong with a blood transfusion as regards to any other medical proceedures. Just OOC to any JWs, is there a ban on bone-marrow or organ transplants as well ?
 17.
You have to understand, in light of our government's abuses of civil liberties recently, it's hard for me not to jump to the worst of possible conclusions. Reading that statement now, I see how quickly that can lead to other violations of humanity.
Sure, which is why I said I was speaking only in relation to the funerals bit. Governments abusing civil liberties is something that seems to be a major problem in the States, all we have over here is bastards who like to spend obscene amounts of money unnecessarily and then take in more through stealth taxes. For instance, fun fact, Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern is paid more than American President George Bush.
 18.
but I thought it would have been nice for her to put in Deathly Hallows.
I don't know, I think if she was going to do it, revealing it at his funeral [that white coffin makes more sense now too :animesmil] would have been the most appropriate place to do so. As for Dagger's link, here's my favourite.
Chasing the Quaffle for the other team
It made me laugh so much.
 19. Yep, even though fanfics aren't all that common here on OB, as opposed to RPGs, they're found in the Anthology forum.
 20.
No, but really, Deus. I don't even know you that well, but I have noticed you tend to market yourself like cheap sex: Far from the best choice, but always available.
Ouch, and if that doesn't find it's way into someone's signature I'm going to be really, really surprised. :animesmil
 21.
Don't think he means the spar forum. I conclude it was something on MyOtaku that we had no idea of. :
 22.
The states are wrong for banning the protests, bottom line. That's not the states' place, and anytime the government tells anyone that protesting is wrong, it should make us all uncomfortable. -Justin
While I understand where you're coming from Justin, I have to disagree with you speaking specifically in regard to banning protests at funerals. People deserve to be able to grieve for their dead with dignity, regardless of what they did in life, without having to deal with people camped outside the Church protesting. Yes, even for people who did utterly evil things in life, their family deserve that last goodbye to be private.
 23. Article Anyway according to rumours, Bioware may be working on an online version of it's hit RPG series. Though cynics may see this as being influenced by it's being purchased by EA a few weeks ago, the rumours extend back as far as May of this year. So what does this mean for gamers ? Other than a online Star Wars game which actually would pwn if left in Bioware's hands for the proper length of time [Obsidian and Lucasarts take note here], it gives the big B an absolutely incredible segment of Star Wars history to play around with. I mean lets face it, LucasArts really dropped the ball in decided to stick with the time period between Eps IV and V for Galaxies, as really Jedi or Sith are the main reason anyone digs Star Wars, that and Mando'a, but that's just personal opinion. Even if this game is fee-paying, if the game is good enough, I would be willing to shell out for it. Other people's thoughts ? Even if the rumours turn out to be false, what would your thoughts be on a KOTOR MMORPG ?
 24. Heh Peach-Head, I'd forgotten about that one James. Anyway, "Your face" is probably the worst one I've heard, a buddy of mine in high school uses it on everyone for anything and it's become just a joke that you laugh at when he says it.
 25. Hmm, I picked Option 2 first, but on reflection, if a meteor is going to kill absolutely everything, I'd rather go out doing it with some hot chick in my office than beating the crap out of someone I dislike. Better yet, mix both and go out doing the guys wife, Revenge Sex FTW. :animesmil
