Like you guys, I'm also wondering why the hell Pein is serving under Tobi if the Rin'negan is the most feared eye jutsu ever or whatever.[/Larry David]
I've been giving that a bit of thought, and the only conclusion I can come up with, though the fact the line is translated does muddle things some, is that while the Rinnegan may be the most powerful of the three eye jutsu, that doesn't automatically translate to mean that Pein is most powerful ninja of Akatsuki. The best example I can think of is Maito Gai fighting a Sharingan user like Kakashi or Itachi, because Gai doesn't need to look at his opponent's upper body to know what they'll do, it completely nullifies the benefits of the Sharigan for them and combined with Gai's skills, gives him the advantage. Maybe Tobito has some way of fighting the Rinnegan that makes him superior to Pein, or just maybe Tobito has powers that go beyond those of the "god" Pein. Again, just spitballing, but it makes some sense of the situation. Really, I think Pein's dojutsu being of divine origins and power has completely made hell of the story.
Now we just need a discussion about how seriously we take things seriously and we'll be set! :catgirl:
Didn't we already have that discussion ? :animesmil

Wow, glad I live over this side of the Atlantic where the courts really don't give a damn about people downloading music seeing as they're too full processing cases involving murderers and drug-dealers. That said, Rach does have a point, if you can't take the fine, don't do the crime.
I think that Gavin's "Interesting, most interesting" was responsible for driving away a lot of members. Now that it's gone we might see a new golden age. :catgirl:
Bah, we both know it was your non-presence for ages that did it James. :p Who were the newbies supposed to look up to seeing as the almighty Jeh wasn't around ?
**** that. I've got one better. GoldenEye 64 turned 10 years old earlier this year. Considering I still play this game when my buddies come over, I feel old as ****ing dirt.
10 years ?! Jesus, now I really feel old. I loved that freaking game and would definitely still be playing it if my 64 still worked. Moonraker lasers FTW.
Actually, it's a chameleon. Not a reference to Pein himself at all.
It was rather fitting in a sort of lame way wasn't it ? I suppose though this thing will be able to blend in with it's surroundings and attack almost invisibly. Though I suspect that Jiraiya is a good enough ninja not to have to rely on his eyes to attack a target.
(and also why Tobi wasn't brought in until after Sasori died; if he's the leader, shouldn't he be keeping a closer eye on the group?).
That's something I've been curious about too, at first I was willing to take it as being part of a major storyline, but now with everything else going on, it seems to be making less and less sense and was done just for "wow" factor. I don't think any of us are going to stop reading, but genuinely, I can't wait for this fight to be over, even if Jiraiya dies, because this just isn't a fitting end for him. The whole student kills master line is being way overplayed.

Sighing quietly Gabriel slumped into one of the free chairs in the apartment away from the grotesque scene that had greeted them. The magnitude of what Adam had told him about the crime scene was still a lot to process, and the idea that they had some kind of sociopath out draining people's psychic energy was genuinely worrying. It was basic training for most Genesis operatives to be able to resist low level telepathic powers, and from his own unique condition Gabriel was capable to resisting considerably more invasive forays, but if they were dealing with someone who could literally harvest that kind of ability, then it went completely beyond what they had prepared for. The agent's train of thought was interrupted by the cheerful tone of his cell phone, it seemed quite the anti-thesis of his current mood and situation. Pulling the phone out of his pocket he glanced at the number on the display, it was Vincent. Another knot formed in Gabriel's stomach, the two teams weren't supposed to contact one another until their missions had been completed, and there was no way that Adrian and Vincent had managed to recruit their target that quickly. "Yeah." His native accent had slipped back under the surface, replaced with the generic American tang he normally spoke in. "Gabe, I've got to talk to Adam, we've got a major fucking situation here." The knot in his stomach contracted further, there was no way... "What's happened ?" "Our target has been murdered. His eyes have been cut out of his fucking head." Gabriel barely managed to avoid swearing out loud. Adam was listening intently, his brow creased in concern. Aside from the two two-man teams, only a handful of people should have known they'd be going after those two potential recruits on that particular evening. That meant they'd either been lucky to walk in on the act, or something was going on that none of them wanted to consider. "We've got the same here. Forensics is on the way. Put in a call for a team at your location." The sound of footsteps coming up the stairs alerted the two men, Gabriel dropped his hand holding the phone to his side and pulled his sidearm from it's holster. The one benefit about his power meant that he could contently wait to see who was coming through the door with no risk of being killed for it, regardless of how heavily the enemy was armed. Within moments, four men clad in medical gear entered into the apartment, Gabriel breathed a sigh of relief and holstered his weapon. Adam strode forward as the forensic team's chief gave him a dutiful salute. Here the man was in his element, he knew how to organise people and get the most out of them. "I want this entire room examined from top to bottom, anything you find out of the ordinary no matter how unimportant it seems is to be reported and if possible removed from the scene. This is a priority assignment, request any necessary equipment or personnel for the job."
Exactly. It doesn't make any sense at all. I mean, the way Jiraiya has been talking about the re-ningan lately, you would think that Pein is the most powerful ninja in Akatsuki. Yet, for some reason, he's getting his *** bossed around. I just don't know what the hell is going on with the Naruto manga anymore. I mean, it seem's like the more I read it, the more confused I get.:animesigh
Well I've been thinking about what Pein is saying about his master plan, and really, what puzzles me the most is how he managed to assemble Akatsuki in the first place. I mean outside of Konan, none of them seem to share Pein's goals of "ending world pain", as opposed to generally being interested in controlling the world. That and for all his rhetoric, Pein doesn't even appear to be the one in control of Akatsuki.

The copious amounts of destruction and debauchery marking the bar at the moment wasn't exactly Nagata's scene. Centuries ago when he had been a much younger demon, practically a child, well more of a horny teenager, he'd had revelled in the goings on. Now though, he just wasn't interesting in anything else other than gaining the power he needed to return to his own people without shame. It was such an un-Cymantic thing for him to be able to dispatch dozens of humans with a single blow, and yet be nothing more than a pathetic runt in the eyes of other demon ninjas. "Hey, where are you off to Nagata ? You leave, and that big-titted bitch of yours is back on the market." Vlad smacked his lips in anticipation. Nagata merely shrugged his shoulders. "Go ahead." A gleeful perverted grin broke across the vampire's face as he eyes the bar wench with renewed interesting. Pushing past a pair of ogres who were guarding the door, well, actually they pair moved before he got near them, probably out of fear given how easily he'd killed the bounty hunter who'd tried to kill him earlier. The town at dusk wasn't a bad place, there was still a bit of light and the amber colour of the sky gave off a sort of ethereal glow. He would have enjoyed it more if a blade hadn't appeared right in front of his throat. "Nagata." He recognised the tone of the voice instantly... his younger brother. Curling his lips, Nagata teleported a few steps forward and turned to face his kinsman. "Nanika." Pulling one of his own ninjato from the sheath on his back, Nagata held in out in a matching pose to his brother. Nanika laughed and with a single movement knocked his brother's sword from his hand and rove him to the ground. "You don't seriously think you can fight me do you ? You're the outcast of the demon clans because of your weakness." There was acid, truth and triumph in each word. Nagata merely replaced his sword into it's sheath. "What do you want then ?" "Other than torment you because I can ?" The elder brother frowned. It seemed the gods smiled on Nagata occasionally, as the storm clouds which had slowly been drifting through the amber sky decided to open their contents onto the down. As his arrogant bastard of a brother had been talking, a single immense bolt of lightning had struck downwards, channelling directly into the sword he'd continued to hold out. Sensing his opportunity, Nagata struck forward, slicing through Nanika's neck with his brother's sword that he'd quickly grabbed from the ground. The look of horror on his face was very pleasant for Nagata, but more than that, his brother's life-force shot from the decapitated stump on his neck and into the elder ninja. Screaming as the energy coursed around his body, Nagata fell to the ground a moment later breathing heavily, his clothing singed. He'd only received about 10% of his kinsman's overall power, but it was enough to significantly strengthen the demon ninja. If he managed to kill another dozen demons, he'd be strong enough to return to his people without shame. "I'll see you in hell little brother."

Outside of OB, I generally visit Filefront to have a look at the latest Knights of the Old Republic mods to have come out. Flipside, a web comic I'm after getting into gets a visit a few times a week, just to check out the new pages of the story, it's a good series and I'd advise anyone to check it out. Wiki and Wookiepedia are two others I check out probably once a day, usually just to learn something new and pointless, it's a fun thing to do. :animesmil
Well, he does have this jutsu that makes even Jiraiya, one of the legendary ninjas, scared, so I can understand where he got the God complex. Its not like it just came out of nowhere.
Sure there's basis for the God complex, but over the whole series so far, Pein has never given a hint of it before. I mean if his re-ningan is that powerful, why is he serving someone else ? It just seems to have come completely out of left field, and really sounds like something from a bad fanfic, even changing his appearance to match this new personality. Speaking of Jiraiya, his hair jutsus are awesome. :animesmil
But, I was expecting better from Paine. I know his name is Paine, but still, I would of thought that he would be better than that.
Agreed.
Actually, that would be be a bad idea. I mean, he wold be starting a fight, getting us all excited over it, and so we wait a week eagerly to see what he has in mind. Then he goes and says 'Sorry guys, Jariya won't kick butt today!' Trust me, now that it has started, its for the best that he finishes it.
Well if Pein pulls another Gary Stu out of his ***, I don't think think Jiraiya is going to be kicking butt at all. And I didn't mean for him to literally just drop the fight, but more so show some of what's going on elsewhere, like with Naruto, Sasuke, etc. I think for him to have tried to do so much, revealing Tobi as an Uchiha and leader of Akatsuki, revealing Pein's entire history, having the Sasuke/Itachi fight has backfired to a degree. Personally I think he shouldn't have done anything about Sasuke, Itachi and Tobito or Naruto's parents and the whole can of worms that opened up until after he'd done the Jiraiya/Pein fight out of the way. It just seems Kishi is trying to work three arcs into a single one, and it's not working.
-
I am seriously getting more and more disappointed with the way the story is turning, Pein was so cool for so long, and literally in the space of three chapters all his mystique has been destroyed. I mean come on, making him a veritable emo who wants to destroy the world to prevent other people being hurt, along with his God-complex. Pass me a bucket, I'm going to hurl. Seriously, Kishi needs to move away from Pein and Jiraiya and focus on the other characters, because there is no way now that the J-Man's fight and possible death could equal Sarutobi's.
(Also, did anyone else think the random Jiraiya slapstick at the end of the chapter was weird? Oo; )
Yeah, thought I am interested in why he summoned Gamaken as opposed to Gamabunta. Either he's holding the "Toad Boss" for Naruto's use as I get the feeling we may be looking at a repeat of Manda's fate, or perhaps Gamabunta wasn't the most powerful toad afterall. I swear, for every one question we get answered, it's generates three more.

Gabriel blessed himself with his right hand while trying to suppress the nausea that was building in his stomach. While he had experienced some of the most painful ways to die first hand, he had never gotten used to seeing scenes like the one he was now faced with. His left hand instinctively gripped the hip-flask of whiskey in his trench-coat pocket , the cold of the metal against his skin helped dismiss some, but not all of his queasiness. "Fuck's sake." Despite living in the United States since he had joined Genesis, in times of stress like this, his Irish tang came through clearly. It was a dead give-away he was uncomfortable, even to his telepathic colleague. The fact he was talking more was another indicator. "We should take her down. It's wrong to leave the poor girl in a state like this." Adam shook his head slowly. "We can't Gabriel... I know how you feel, but we need to preserve the scene for the forensics team." Removing his hand from underneath the dead woman's chin, the dropped against her chest, shielding her freshly gouged eye sockets. "This isn't right Adam. It's too fucking ritualistic. Most of these hate crimes are quick things. A bullet, or a knife or something, but not this. We're dealing with some kind of fucking head case here." Gabriel balled his fists, his knuckles whitening. "You're probably right. I'll call Adrian and Vincent and tell them to get straight back after they're finished in Brooklyn." The field-ops leader pulled out his cell-phone and began to punch in a series of numbers. "Can you get anything from the room ? I know a scene like this leaves empathic traces..."
In terms of the Japanese attitude towards sex, I did once read that there used to be a big problem in Japan of men stealing underwear off washing lines. The solution? To establish nation-wide Used Ladies Underwear Stores. Apparently ladies who have a shabby pair of knickers can kick them off and rake in the dough while they're at it, all without having some creepy pervert in their backyard. Nobody does convenience like the Japanese.
That has to be one of the funniest/creepiest things I've ever read. Seriously, just imagine the amount of people wearing trench-coats in that store. :animesmil Also Japan, I don't know about other Europeans, but generally when it comes to sexual activity, I think Holland is sort of like our version of Las Vegas or Atlantic City, what happens there, stays there. ;)

This has to be the funniest thread I've read in months, with rubbery friend taking the gold. Bad side effects OF Fanfiction and Watching anime
Gavin replied to sayoeimomo's topic in General Discussion
If something had that many errors right up front, I wouldn't even bother to finish reading the first page let alone the entire story.
I think that's probably the most common approach, if I'm ever reading a fanfic and my eyes are raped by bad grammar and spelling in the first five lines, there's not a chance in hell I'm going to read through the whole thing. That said, I love reading, so getting a good fanfic or an update to a good fanfic is one of those great moments of the day. I suppose the only bad effect of my geeky-ness is like Des and Rach's, I tend to lose focus with whatever is around me, except for the centre of my attention. It's quite a weird thing when you realise that someone has been standing in your doorway and you've no idea how long they've been there. -
Of course. :p After all, just think of the damage you've done! Your [Interesting, Most Interesting ] catch phrase nearly caused OB to die for good! Though it was rather funny, even if I never did know why you used it. Hehe.
Heh, it was a paraphrasing of Darth Vader's "Impressive, most impressive" line from Episode V. I used it because it was something original for the time, and it helped me win a Nifty Fifty a few years back. :animesmil
