Virgins! You're Either Really Smart or Really Dumb
Gavin replied to AzureWolf's topic in General Discussion
The SAT should seriously consider this as possible advertising material. "Absinence got me into Harvard!!!"
I would literally pay to see the advert to that. I can see it now, a bit photo of some miserable looking guy giving a thumbs up with a fake smile.
Is the drop of I.Q. large enough to make a difference, or is it one of those, "big enough to be there, but not big enough to count" sort of things? I have a genius of a friend who took fifth or something like that in this year's national High School Science Fair, and I would hate to se what would happen to her after she gets married if it's a big drop of I.Q.
Read the article. Honestly most people see this as a joke Sojiro. -
Virgins! You're Either Really Smart or Really Dumb
Wait...does that mean if I get laid, I'm going to get smarter. God knows I need to. Get smarter, I mean.
Unless you're practically retarded, the answer is no. Apparently if you're of above average intelligence and start getting laid regularly, you're going to experience a drop in IQ. -
... The title is part of the representation of a person's status at the boards.
Yeah I'm sure having that title for their first 250 posts will really encourage people to put effort into what they post and not just spam mindlessly to get a new one. :p

Traditional Theater Forum/Sub-Forum?
Gavin replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in Help & Feedback
I think we can just rename Music/Movies/TV to 'Otaku Entertainment' and call it a day, really. -Shy
Seconded, seems like the easiest solution. -
Virgins! You're Either Really Smart or Really Dumb

Brilliant, now I have a scientifically backed-up excuse as to why I didn't have sex until I was eighteen, I was just too freaking smart to be having sex. For some reason though, I highly doubt knowing that is going to pave over five years of resentment at hearing how often my buddies "got some". On a side note, AzureWolf have you ever seen the film Idiocracy starring Luke Wilson ? Because this thread reminds me immensely of that movie. -
Well I'm glad to see people are receptive to my idea, I was pretty sure I was going to be told to be quiet and slink back into the annals of OB history, yes I'm looking at you Crystia ! :p Anyway, hopefully we won't get too many people demanding that the first title be "n00b Scum" or something along those lines. :animesmil

Shouldn't that be l33t 5k1llz Des ? Or is my l33t speak off again. :animesmil Anyway met up with Alex (and Boo) yesterday evening in the International District and had some party fun, though mostly it just involved me running after Alex while he exclaimed how easily things come back and then killing a bunch of stuff. I'll almost certainly get Eye of the North when it comes out, and hopefully get a better idea of how the play the game seeing as a few of my fellow OBers will be around. But crap to the fact it comes out two days before I return for senior year. Just out of curiosity what would people recommend as the secondary class for a warrior ? I've no real idea in my own head, so I'm open to any suggestions.

Well as I said to you yesterday James you've really got me interested with this idea of yours, though it's funny that we were only talking about the destructiveness of TV sensationalism when the law becomes complicit in the Lounge recently. Seeing as I'd imagine a good deal of the villains in this are going to be male, just how far can we go with them ? As in how warped may these individuals be ? Personally I'm hoping to play a cannibalistic version of Willy Wonka.
I don't know... Does it really matter? Now that I think of it, consistent and strict schedules would only do more damage to the enjoyability of the game than really give anything to it. So what if people post about participating to the DADA class almost every day? Or if students from different years happen to go to the same class some time? What's a little inconsistency compared to a flowing, involving story? If someone's bothered by inconsistency, they can always use this thread to communicate with the other players. "I'm going to a Herbology class with my character next, so those in my year can follow my lead." or "Gryffindor Quidditch practice coming up, so stay away from the training field, other houses!". Wouldn't that work?
I suppose you have a point Sandy, my only concern was that we're going to have about fifty DADA classes per week while others are neglected like poor Emily and her History class. If we have timetables then nobody is confused and we get a much more rounded experience. After all people don't have to talk about every single class they had during the day.
I see this problem we are having. Gavin, I'm leaning towards giving them extra free time or the suggestion of adding extra-curricular activities. Sirius, I do agree with the rules regarding the schedules. If though we can't work out a balanced schedule for the students, maybe we should drop it like you say and just set dates for the Quidditch matches and the Hogsmeade visits.
We'd probably need to work out some kind of timetable for each year to prevent people posting about being in whatever class they please, just to the sake of streamlining everything.

Turning slowly, Gavin watched as the ancient evil that was The Beast drew slowly out of the shadows, his head bowed down as his master approached. Even the light from the glowing beam of Gavin's weapon seemed to dim in the presence of this monster. "The mongrel has gone my lord, as expected. I shall finish the girl at your command." ?Yesss my apprenticcce. Yourr hattredd makess youu powerrfulll. Go, killl herr and take backk that whicchh belonggss to usss." Aaryanna watched in rapt horror. As evil as Gavin had seemed to her, all along he had been merely the servant of another far greater malevolence. "As you command" A wicked grin grew upon the Beast's hideous face at his apprentice's acquiescence. Gavin paced forward and reassumed his stance in front of Aaryanna, the lightsaber?s blood coloured blade thrumming almost... hungrily. He even looked different, his face was paler, his features sharper, his eyes which had previously been a warm shade of blue now seemed tainted with steel. He reached out with his free hand towards her. ?Give me the head Aaryanna, your death does not have to be painful. As fallen as you consider me, I am not without mercy to those who have fought well.? Even his voice seemed more ethereal than before, like he was less human. ?No. I won?t give up Gadget to you or the Beast. If you want it, you will have to take it !? A goldenrod blade emerged from the tip of her mod rod. She saw a tiny, approving smile break onto Gavin?s face. ?Then let?s end this.? He sprang towards her faster that she expected, but her counter was flawless, bringing her blade into contact with his. White sparks shot out between the point of contact between both of them. Spinning on his left foot, Gavin lashed with the sole of his right foot, out connecting with Aaryanna?s midsection and sending her tumbling back along the ground. The Beast cackled in delight at his student?s prowess, clapping maniacally and calling for more. ?Gooood, gooood. Now finisshhh herrr Gavinnn.? Moving in for the kill, Gavin brought his lightsaber above his head and struck down vertically on Aaryanna?s skull. As the blade connected he instantly realised something was wrong, the weapon moved weightlessly though his enemy without any reaction from her. Instead ?Aaryanna? became a pile of HTML coding. She?d used an image duplicate, evidently she was more skilled than he had given her credit for. That was good, he wanted a better fight. Ducking, Aaryanna?s own lightsaber passed inches above him, threatening to sever him at the shoulders. Bringing her own blade down in a striking motion, she passed it through Gavin?s shoulder but instead of blood, only more coding spilled out. ?You?re not the only one who knows how to use an image substitution.? Turning, she expected Gavin to attack, but was faced with only emptiness. Spinning 180 degrees, she called on a line break to stop a hail of strike darts her opponent had summoned., but again he seemed invisible. Only the sudden sound of his blade alerted Aaryanna to his position and the quick movement of her blade blocked his attack. Switching to a one handed grip, which given his physical size and strength was enough to hold the colliding blade, he stuck forward with his fist into her face. Reeling at the physical pain and the blood now coming from her nose, Aaryanna attempted moved back into a defensive stance, but Gavin?s next attack came too fast. In a single swift movement he literally beaten the weapon out of her hand and shouldered her down onto the ground. They both knew the fight was over... ?Now hand over the head.? |||||||||| I hope I wrote you correctly Aaryanna, if I didn?t just tell me what?s off and I?ll try and change it. Alex will be introducing the next plot point, as it was his idea originally. And yes, he was meant to be reminiscent of Palpatine the way I wrote him.
I think we can start looking at implementing some new elements for security on the current version of OB and part of that might tie into creating an introduction forum. I think we can probably give it a try at some point soon. It will need more of a structure than we had before though. It'll also need a couple of very hands-on Moderators.
Well I'm very pleased at this news, and hopefully time will show that this was a good idea after all. Maybe after a while we could implement a sort of mentoring system where some older members volunteer to show new members around.

I agree with Sirius, seeing as we have only one teacher for each subject, there's no way we can have three core subjects a week for each year, unless the staff are going to employ those time-travelling devices Hermoine used in Book 3. Perhaps giving them extra free classes would be a better idea, or making classes longer or adding more extra-cirricular activities. Just a few suggestions.
-
Maybe we could make coming up with the new member titles a competition in the Event forum. People submit a list of names and why they think they reflect OtakuBoards as a community and then others vote on them, the top five get submitted to James who picks the overall winner. Be interesting to see what kind of names people would come up with.
Sandy, can you really mention Binns and being interesting in the same sentence?
Heh you could, "Professor Binns is not interesting" see ? Anyway, I agree with Alex, we need to draw up some kind of schedule for classes for each year and start the RPG soon.

If you would Des, add my name to the Guild Wars section. Character's name is Alexander Corvidae on the European Server.
-
Yes please, let's put in more effort to get ourselves names that are supposedly NOT good proclamations.
Heh, well seeing as only two of them ever had Otaku in the title, and apparently we don't care about it's meaning, I'm sure we could work around that. :animesmil

Footsteps. Spaced as far apart a possible. Running speed. Four people. One of the set of tracks indicated twice the normal weight of a human male. Either Shade or Sanguinius was carrying the injured Webster... perfect. Gavin tensed for his approach. "Nno! Mmmove nott! The darrknesss is a powwwerffull ally...it ssshhall brriing the mmmaster Aaryanna to usss. Now, go!" "Yes, my master." Dashing with the darkness' love, Gavin had the element of surprise. Gadget's radar could not pierce the embrace of the true Mother. The moonlight illuminated his armor in an ethereal glow, beautiful yet deadly. His devotion to the darkness had strengthened him, transformed him. His enemies would be unable to so easily recover this time. Gavin?s mask shifted back to the opposite side of his face and regained it?s bone-white colouring. He removed the mod rod from inside his cloak, and readied it. ?Strikethought" It was barely above a whisper, inaudible on the wind. Gavin seemed to materalize right out of the shadows. His darts found their target. Shades fell, screaming, as crimson ran from his left thigh. Fluff and Crystia returned fire, but their bolts hit nothing but darkness. Gavin had already launched himself back into the shadows. Fluff, Crystia and Webster frantically swung their mod-rods around. "What--just--happe--" Fluff exclaimed. "It...was...Gavin?" Crystia replied. "What happened to him..." "I don't know. But I don't want to be here to find out. Come on!" Webster hoisted Shades back onto his shoulders and the four stumbled on. "Youuu...hahahah...youuu arrre abbouutt to witnessss the powerrr of the daarrknessss..." Fluff stopped. "Wh-who said that?!" "Fluff, what are you doing?!? Come on!" "No, Webster, Crystia! Did you hear that?" "Yeah, you were hearing us getting the hell out of here!" Within the Darkness "Ssshe iss delayeddd. She believes she hears something in the distance. The rest of the group do not realise this until later. [*]Gavin will focus only on Aaryanna because she has the head, beginning a fight with her.
I would ask it goes no further than that as there is a very significant plot point to come after it.
You know, the reason why you said I respond to your posts a little while ago, whether to agree or disagree... I'm crushed, and here I thought it was that devilish Irish charm instead of having No Life. I think I'm sad. lol Still in the end, those titles are pretty funny, and seeing that there are only five members who have more than 5,000 posts that last title would be pretty exclusive. If we ever find out just what it actually is. Heh.
Heh maybe it's a combination both. I'm sure if I wasn't around as much my charm would be less potent. Maybe we should reintroduce the post count titles, but instead of having the set ones, have a little competition to come up with new ones and maybe even increase the number of titles available. The titles themselves would have to be centric to OB lore as well. Thoughts ?
Ooh, politics at Hogwarts. I'm not really sure a slightly lopsided mix of genders is a problem - I mean Hogwarts is all for equal rights and the like, why not have more women than men teaching there?
I don't know if this is the case for anyone else, but my high school's female to male teacher ratio is slightly more than 3:1 and increasing.
I like Emily, and she seems like a far better History of Magic teacher than Binns (to be honest, as much as I love studying History at college, History of Magic seems like a dull subject anyway - maybe that's all down to Binns). Young people make better teachers anyway. Seems like it would make more sense for Darren to change one of his characters to a male.
Thanks Phil, I knew someone would warm to Emily over Binns.
Don't misunderstand me here. I'm talking about the concept that a woman can't have an abortion without the guy having an equal say. Now usually if someone is married usually they do make that decision together, but otherwise? Unless they are close, giving a guy that kind of power is really not very fair in my opinion.
Ah right my mistake. And while I still disagree with abortion altogether, you do have a valid point if we're dealing with pregnant women with no relationship to the father of the unborn.
However, I deal with a lot of domestic abuse and rape victims, so I hope you'll understand that my view is a bit biased when it comes to this sort of deal. I see far to many guys who for all intents and purposes shouldn't be a part of the woman's life at all. Let alone be a father.
Fair enough, and while I agree your view probably has been biased by what you've seen, I also agree that there are definitely guys out there who should never be fathers. I was thinking in a more general view where in my experience a lot of men make or will make good fathers and deserve to be part of their kid's lives. -
As for you Gavin... I already know you have No Life. :p Don't need a title system based on posts to tell me that. [I kid]
Heh, that's a very good point Crystia. But if you're usually the first person to respond to my posts, what does that say about you ? Yep, No Life either. :p
Gods, now there's a scary thought. Clones of 2007DigitalBoy running around. >_< Seriously though, he hasn't even been online for a couple of days at least.
ALAN COME BACK !! We need your n00b Hunter prowess. Anyone who didn't get the joke, go and search for the words n00b Hunter and read the stories, they're great.
As for the topic... I'm in agreement with the sentiment that in the end a guy has no say in the matter. I mean seriously, other than to get her pregnant at that point it's 100% out of your influence. You could cease to exist and it would make no difference. She's the one in the position of facing all the issues surrounding being pregnant so that definately gives her the final say. I mean when it comes down to the total process of a baby being made, a guys contribution, though important is less than 1% of the total process. Sure it's his sperm that fertilized the egg, blah, blah, blah. But it's 100% her body that's making that process come to completion.
Wow, a lot of you people must really think little of your fathers. Seriously, when you've gone and hugged your mom, go and hug your dad if he's been there for you your entire life, because apparently by the sentiment here, he didn't have to be. -
Bah! Where's the fun in that? I mean... my title wouldn't change at all! lol Though I do think the No Life and I Live Here ones are pretty funny. :catgirl:
That's because you haven't been around long enough to [strike]spam[/strike] make enough high quality posts into a four figured post count. And seriously James, you have to tell us what came after "I live here". I don't imagine there would be one after it, as someone would need probably nine-thousand posts to get it, if the old system of doubling the post different between ranks held. "IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND !!!" Yes, I had to say it. :animesmil
