Interesting, most interesting. God damn that is one accurate little rant, being one of those nice-guys who always finishes last with women has to be the most frustrating sensation there is. I mean I don't know how many girls I've known who piss and moan about the fact that some dumbass rebel they're interested in has let them down and that they want one of those "nice-guy" boyfriends and then just walk off. I mean you're right there, but you know it'd be wrong for you to say anything, let alone wave and big ******* flag and shout that there's one right in front of them. You'll listen to every little problem, help them with everything you can and do it without any thought of reward, without any ulterior motive. You'll spend an hour or two on the phone reassuring them over any little thing, and you won't care because you care for them and your time doesn't matter. And then you're just kept in the closet and only taken out when you're needed. It's demeaning and it's hurts like hell, but we do it because we're nice-guys and if we didn't do it, then the whole world would go to hell.
I was hoping Gavin wasn't going to say he was scared of leprechauns...
Heh I must admit I'll never get used to the idea of people being so interested in the concept of Leprechauns. Most Irish people either find the idea of a Leprechaun as being immensely funny due to the interest it generates among non-Irish people, or they find the concept to be somewhat insulting as it represents a kind of backwardness associated with it. I myself belong to the former rather than the latter as I will never ceased to be amused by how many people think Irish people actually believe in Leprechauns nowadays.

Interesting, most interesting. Funniest life experience had to be the time one of my cousins felt the call of nature as we were out walking one of the fields behind my home. Anyway James, at least I think it was James as this is going back a long time ago, head behind the ditch for a second to "strain the spuds". About five seconds later I hear a yelp and run to see James holding his crotch with his left hand and looking quite pained, eventually I coxed out of him that he's managed to pee right onto the electric fence wire. Well to say I nearly wet myself laughing wouldn't be an exaggeration, and given James' overall arrogance I thought it was a bit of justice.

Interesting, most interesting. Being an Autobot is one of the ones I never voiced out loud to people, but still as we're talking kid dreams it was definitely one of them. But seeing as I pretty much grew up addicted to sci-fi, particularly Star Wars, being a Jedi definitely took priority over being a Transformer. It really wasn't until the Prequel Trilogy that the Jedi Order really seemed as interesting as they are now, seeing as how in the OT we only had Obi-Wan and Yoda as examples. In terms of real jobs, it would be a toss-up between being a doctor and being an astronaut, though being a doctor was always the one that appealed to me more. There was also being an astronomer but the level of mathematics in that has since sadly put me off pursuing it. I think doctor was the one that always stayed with me because I've always got an immense sense of satisfaction out of being able to help people in any way I can, though the dealing with death segment is not something I think I could hack. So yeah, Jedi or Doctor, take your pick really.
And to answer the question...fangirls (and boys) are neither weird nor scary. They're just reasons why mercy killings should be legal.
That kept me laughing for the better part of five minutes Alex, I can just imagine you actually saying that with a straight face and sounding completely sincere.
Well, there does have to be some kind of specificity involved. "Fangirl" is commonly used to describe BL (read: yaoi) and/or slash fans, which is an incredibly broad category. However, that usage works because there's a sense of identity to it that might otherwise be supplied by tying the term to a specific franchise (as in, "Oh, God, not another Inuyasha fangirl!"). Most people think of something very distinct & clear when they think of BL fangirls. The same is not true of sci-fi. Now, if someone was a rabid fan of a particular sci-fi author or whatever, then I say s/he would qualify as a fangirl/boy. Although as I mentioned earlier, the person's attitude is what's most important. And I've just put way too much thought into this. But I wanted to clarify my position, as it were. ~Dagger~
I suppose given the fact that Star Trek fans are referred to collectively as Trekkies, with similar names for Star Wars and Stargate fans it just seems incorrect to refer to them as "fan-". It's probably down to the fact that I myself have a vested interest in each of those science fictions that the use of the term fanboy is something I would find somewhat insulting given the nature of those whom the term has been coined for. However in saying that I agree with you when you say that attitude is the more important factor in determining exactly the difference between a fanboy/girl and a Trekkie for instance.

Interesting, most interesting. The only times I've never started a paragraph with an indent is when I'm writing a letter to someone, so I've never grown uncomfortable with the sight of an unindented. In all honesty if people began every paragraph with an indentation I think it would begin to irritate me, whether or not they would be correct in terms of structure.

Interesting, most interesting. My childhood bogeyman had to be Star Trek's Borg, I've never had a proclivity for scary things and never understood some people's need to frighten themselves. Anyway when I first saw First Contact when it came out on video, I must admit the idea of a cybernetically enhanced species bent on galactic conquest was enough to give me nightmares. I think it was their grotesque appearance and the appearance of their technology more so than their methods were what frightened me.

Interesting, most interesting. How did I meet my best friend ? Well it?s weird in the fact that I met my best friend way before he even became my friend, though I had forgotten I knew him when he became my friend, sounds complicated yes, but is relatively simple. Basically I met Brian back when I was about eight or nine years old, his mother and father ran a tea shop on the way to a city called Kilkenny. Now when my family would go to the Kilkenny market, we?d go to the tea shop on the way home for a snack, Brian was about my age and we used play soccer together while my parents ate. Fast forward to when I start my first day of secondary school, and the first two people I meet are Brian and a guy called Peter who also is a good friend of mine. Now at this stage I had forgotten who Brian was, as he had me and over the course of the next two years he became probably my best friend because he was one of the few people who shared many of my interests, had similar intellects and he was just a downright nice fellow. We went through secondary school together and he?s one of the few non-relatives who still keeps in contact with me, which really does signify what a good friend he is.

I thought the QKT's "cape", for the lack of a better word was purple ? Hopefully I'll have the oppertunity to play Guild Wars when I'm staying with my cousins in Hobart for a few weeks, and I look forward to seeing what all the fuss has been about.

Interesting, most interesting. In answer to the title question, I have to say having read some of the fangirl responses given by CloudsOnly that scary might be the more accurate description of my thoughts. I disagree with Dagger in that any "rabid" fan of any material might be described as a fanboy/girl, given my enjoyment of various forms of sci-fi I would loathe to think someone might describe me as a fanboy. I think that fanboy/girl does more correctly describe someone who may be obsessed with a certain anime rather than a certain material.
Unless of course you really pissed him off - those in the know are aware of the anger of Des' boot.[/size']
As our dear friend Mike is so well aware. But to get back on topic, I reckon post people would see Des' idea as being the natural choice in most situations, as it appeases those who's threads have been resurfaced and would prefer to see them returned from whence they came. The only problem one might foresee is that people could claim they never got the PM and continue to reopen old threads.

Interesting, most interesting. Greatest Videogame Bosses eh ? Well one of the most obvious contenders to the title, Super Mario 64?s Bowser have already been mentioned but there are a few other?s I think in my experience deserve a shot at the title. Desann -Jedi Outcast - Jedi Master setting: If you are fortunate or perhaps unfortunate enough to survive long enough to reach this battle then you?d truly want to have Jedi reflexes in order to keep up with this Chistori. I personally find that sadly Desann in the game suffers from ?final boss syndrome? in that he is so powerful he can successfully duel against Luke Skywalker and potentially win before you get your chance to fight him, during which time he has of course gotten even stronger. I have only even beaten him once out of God knows how many times I?ve gone to fight him, and then only through pure luck by
bringing down one of the three pillars on his Dark Jedi ***
. Boss/The Joy - Metal Gear Solid 3: There is no way in hell that this woman does not deserve a shot at the title, if not the title itself given the game. While she may not have been as tough as I was expecting, but honestly I only played it for a week on normal so that?s not as fair assessment of what she might have been capable of, she definitely did make the game what it was as a lead character. I mean she?s Big Boss? mentor for God?s sake so what more needs to be said. Sadly for Thunderbolt I found him to be too much air and not enough substance to even warrant anything other than an insulting mention. Ganondorf - Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker: By the time you actually get to face Ganondorf I personally found that you feel sorry for him more than anything else. Still he was a very cool boss and the tag-team requirements to beat him added another dimension to the battle, he was probably one of the only bosses in the game who I lost a life against over the course of the fight. Jack of Blades - Fable/Fable: The Lost Chapters: The Darth Vader of Fable with his eerily calm depth of voice and mannerisms that belied the heart of a true villain. I must admit I was rather disappointed with the way the finished his character in TLC
I mean that dragon
really did seem a bit over the top without brining anything to the game. What really made Jack great was the fact that he was understated, he didn't look all that strong or capable and yet tangling with him meant almost certain death. Like Ganondorf, while not particularly tough if you have the right spells and attributes at your disposal he still was the villain that made the game.

Interesting, most interesting. I think the idea is quite good, as like Petie said it would save people the time of having to manually search through a bunch of pages to get one line. And seeing as you could use the thread as an index for all the contact details for people it would allow people to need only one reference source if they were looking for several names.
Perhaps a better example would be Syk3's AIM Names thread.[/SIZE']
Actually that is a very good idea, seeing as how people could update their screen-names without having to go through the effort of IMing everyone on their list in order to let people know they?ve changed their name. You could also add an extra dimension of ?Who?s screen-name is this ?? as I?ve got a bunch of AIM names on my Buddy List with absolutely no clue as to who they belong to.
Good idea. As long as this isn't the case in the Arena I don't see a problem with it. Having a feature like this would have killed most of my favorite RPGs ages ago... -Shy
I must admit when I first read the thread title I was in favour of having like an Archives for older RPGs like we have in the Play It forum. I've had more than a few of my older RPGs resurrected years after the finished, the most recent one being earlier this week and I'd prefer not to have to see them closed for no reason other than someone couldn't have been bothered to check the creation date. However when Des pointed out that Moderators can simply delete the offending post and the thread will return from whence it came I think the need for Archives kind of disappears. Of course that is entirely reliant on the fact that the Moderators will delete the most recent post, and not as Raiyuu would do simply just add an advisory post for the benefit of the new member before closing the thread. Personally I think it would be better to delete the post and then send an advisory PM instead, that way you can be at last someway sure the person will indeed get the message.

Interesting, most interesting. More recently I've probably spent somewhere in the region of between one hundred and one hundred twenty hours if not more on Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords for the PC. I've passed similar times if not more on the original game, but as I deleted my older save games when I reinstalled it I can't be entirely sure if that's correct. However the game I've probably killed the most time on is Age of Empires II and it's expansion The Conquerors, it's going back a few years at this stage but having played it for about an hour or two every day for probably a year that will amount to some serious game time.
You're not kidding. Day of, apparently there were some selling for over $1500. What a rip off. And there were so many people willing to pay that much, too. :animestun
Fifteen hundred dollars ? Well that honestly just shows the desperation of people when it comes to acquiring these new systems, despite the fact that they should still be available when Christmas rolls along. Still it is deplorable that people would take advantage of such desperation by making people pay such obscene amounts of money.

Interesting, most interesting. Having seen The Goblet of Fire earlier in the week, I must admit I was quite impressed with it overall, given the sheer scope of the book it was very unlikely they'd be able to use all the material. I have to say I was rather glad that SPEW didn't make an appearance in the movie and it was one segment of the book I wasn't particularly fond of. I was pleased with the performances of most of those involved, Alan Rickman never ceases to bring a smile to my face when he appears on screen. As for Gambondore/Grumbledore I'll agree with people that his performance wasn't what I'd have expected and sadly well below par of what we'd have expected from someone taking over from fellow Irishman Richard Harris. It is unfortunate that he is unwilling to try and properly take on the Dumbledore role, and if his execution of the character in Order of the Phoenix is as poor as Goblet of Fire
then perhaps it is best that Dumbledore meets his end in Half Blood Prince
. Still it?ll be two years before the next movie is brought to cinema and he has plenty of time to reverse his decision on his methodology. Between the Irish win in the World Cup Finals and Brendan Gleeson?s Mad-Eye performance I must admit this is definitely my personal favourite of the series to date. I?m looking forward to see if OotP continues the same path in terms of direction and story that GoF has laid the foundations of.

Discuss Pokemon: Serpentizor Reborn Underground [PG-VLS]
Gavin replied to Solo Tremaine's topic in Theater
I was just wondering Hugo, given that my character would seem to be the current leader of the Legion while Serpentizor is still inactive, should he make an appearance on the Orange Islands or is he just coordinating things from the Legion headquarters ? I was speaking to Sarah about it and we agree the more than likely Gobannus would issue orders through Xanna and unless the situation required it would continue to oversee things until Serpentizor was reawakened. On a side note, my apologies for not posting yet but I'm not sure exactly what my character's place is in the RPG at the moment. -
Interesting, most interesting. I've mulled over this question nearly everyday for the last few years and really since the only thing in my life I'd like to change is something I can't there's little point in dwelling on such conundrums. Well seeing as I've been trying to trim down a bit over the last few months, I think I'd like to have more energy in order to work out harder in the gym. I can push myself quite hard for about an hour per night, but I think given the opportunity I'd like to be able to work harder than that without getting tired.
But you aren't in the Temple of Sun/Sol/Aton/whatever. :/ Only the eleven participants of the Body Bags were sent there to my knowledge. PS. in case some of you don't know what "Aton" is, it's an Egyptian sun-god, or matter-of-factly the sun disc itself, that was worshipped by a pharaoh that announced Aton to be the only god during his reign.
Oh right, I thought all the original Gold Team Members had been drafted back into the mission again. Phew well that's a load off my mind, though I shall have to formulate some kind of post describing Augur's epoch-based nightmares for the Arbiter. The Egyptian god Aten, or more accurately Ra-Horus-Aten was a creation of the Pharaoh Akhenaten. The main article and related articles can be found here. God bless Wikipedia, what would we do without it.
You, or anyone else is welcome to post in Arbiter to expand on ideas presented in the main threads, though. -Shy
Ah OK, thanks for clearing that up for me Josh.
I have to wonder whether we are at risk or not, though
Indeed, that was my big concern too, I'm just hoping we make it out of the Temple of Sol again despite our relative predicaments.

Interesting, most interesting. Well personally I go by the simple rule of one above and one below, which in terms of High School meant that I would pursue a girl I was interested in if she were in a year higher or lower than me. So basically that meant that I would only go for girls either a year older than me or a year younger than me, though there were exceptions at times and now that I'm eighteen anything older within reason is fair game. I'd advise you to basically just talk to the guy, get to know him as most of the time infatuations are tied to the fact that you don't know the person and they seem more interesting that way. If you get to know him and still like him, then my advice is to just come out and tell him you're attracted, given that he's two years older than you he mightn't reciprocate the feelings but at least you'll have been straightforward with it. If is interested then just take it one step at a time.

Interesting, most interesting. Who am I ? Such is a philosophical question best left to those with enough time, wisdom and energy to be able to solve such a conundrum. Idealistic ramblings aside, my name is Gavin as you'll no doubt have already guessed from my username and I hail from the Emerald Isle, as also indicated by my user title. Anyway I'm from the Republic of Ireland, from one of the more southern counties called Tipperary, about eight miles from the principle town of Clonmel. Strange as it may sound I'm actually not the first Tipp member, the first being our esteemed PC Moderator Red, though we'll forgive him for being from North Tipp. Still it could be worse, he could be from Kilkenny... I'll be nineteen in roughly two and a half months, which hopefully I should be celebrating at my cousins' house in Australia where I'll be staying for a few months in the coming year. I have two younger siblings, both of whom had OB accounts but no longer use them, my brother Dave is sixteen and a tear-away nutcase at times, but at his heart he's a decent little brother. My sister Sinead, shortened to Ned most of the time, has been the bane of my existence for the last few years. She's thirteen and acts twice her age, dresses it too and can be the most selfish and infuriating woman in creation. Of course at other times she can be very helpful and kind, and I put her bad behaviour down to her age and some friends I don't approve of. My childhood was at times good, at times shite but I won't bore you with details as I generally let the past stay where it is. Without sugar-coating it, I'm a high school drop-out who intends to return in September of the coming year, and God willing I'm hoping to study Law when I finish. I am unemployed at the moment, save for the fact that I work at home as a full-time house cleaner and chef, though at least I have a good home to call my own thanks be to God. My favourite colour is blue, it's been my favourite colour for as long as I can remember and I find it a very warm and soothing colour. My taste in music in spread through God knows how many different genres between Classical Baroque and Heavy Metal, so I appreciate music per song as opposed to per genre. I am a massive movie fan, I love my movies despite the fact that often I don't see the underlying similarities to society as I'm too busy focusing on the story of the movie. Reading is another massive hobby of mine, and though I am a hardcore sci-fi fan having read most of the SW Expanded Universe, my favourite book remains Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. I value honesty and compassion in people above everything else and would give people the benefit of the doubt up until I was offered irrefutable proof as to otherwise. Despite seeming somewhat zealous in my beliefs, I am I devout Roman Catholic but I will step outside that part of myself to look at a situation when it is required of it I am a staunch animal welfare supporter, and those who abuse animals in my mind should be locked away for the rest of their natural lives for being cruel to a creature which means you no harm. I believe in human decency over anything else, and that eventually humans will evolve emotionally beyond the more negative sides of ourselves, such as anger and greed. Can't really think of anything else, but it's twenty past three in the morning, so forgive me if it seems a bit incoherent.

Interesting, most interesting. Having tried in vain to acquire the skill of skateboarding, as well as injuring myself quite badly attempting to ice-skate I would have to say that both are equally difficult from my point of view. However if my arm was twisted, I'd have to say that I think ice-skating was probably the more difficult, and painful, of the two to attempt with any kind of success. I don't know whether it was the skates themselves or the just my own complete lack of coordination when my balance is thrown, but for the life of me I left with more injuries than any rugby match I've ever played. The same could really be said for skateboarding as aside from just rolling on the damn thing, I've never been able to do anything impressive with it.
