1.
You sure can, kiddo. I think there are some very interesting points for Gavin (Augur) and yourself to elaborate on in Arbiter. -Shy
Does that mean I'm to be involved in this Body Bags Josh ? I never got a PM and so assumed I wasn't, but that line would seem to indicate otherwise. Or am I supposed to just work out with Circéus as to what is going on with my character ?
2. Interesting, most interesting. Sticking strictly to animals, I think I'd like to be some variety of Cetacea given that whales themselves are very gentle and intriguing creatures. Having watched Star Trek IV as much as I have there's always that respect for the creature that managed to save the planet after it went extinct. They're are also fascinating, at least in my opinion because they are some of only a few mammalians who live nearly entirely underwater. Drawback: The whole poaching thing, in the fact that I could be killed for my blubber, oil and meat.
3. In response to the Whill thing, far be it from me to shift blame onto someone else, but I was merely quoting our esteemed Star Wars expert Dave [Boba Fett] on that one. Anyway on to the sign up. Character Overview Name: Galren Jeth Age: 23 Galactic Standard Years (Padawan) Species: Arkanian Gender: Male Appearance: Given the distinctive characteristics of all Arkanians, Jeth has on occasion been mistaken for a blind human, in reality despite his eyes being completely white he can see exceptionally well under most circumstances. His four clawed fingers, well three fingers and an opposable thumb, are as capable at performing the majority tasks as their human counterparts. Having gone through the Arkanian period of maturity, Jeth now also bears the characteristic white hair that he has allowed grow out to shoulder length, though he has kept with the single Padawan braid of the Jedi as not to seem disrespectful of the Order?s ways. Tall and stalwartly built, Jeth is typically an imposing sight for most races who regard his size as some measure of power. Of course this outward physical strength is complemented by his attunement with the Force, not only increasing his physical strength but preventing his size from being a detriment by augmenting his dexterity to Jedi levels. Of course all of these traits are typical of all Jedi or in his case Padawan, but that doesn?t stop that 1.95 metre Arkanian from being somewhat intimidating to those who would be unaware of Jedi philosophy. In terms of overall dress Jeth is very much conventional, attiring himself in the typical robes of a Jedi Padawan. Perhaps the only oddity about his tunic is the fact that it's full-length rather than the more normal half tunic and leggings combination used by most Jedi. However these apparels are favoured by those more academic Jedi who are members of the Archive staff, to which Jeth would eventually like to belong. Given his already fair complexion, as well as the distinctive colours of his eyes and hair, Jeth has attires himself in robes of a somewhat darker brown than would be normal for a Padawan. Of course such is not any indication of his allure to the Dark Side, it is simply down to the fact that lighter coloured clothing makes him look even more pale than he feels is necessary. Personality: One of more famed personality traits of the Arkanians is arrogance, stemming from the belief that they are the pinnacle of evolution in the galaxy. Thankfully years as a Jedi Initiate, and later Padawan have purged whatever arrogance he may have possessed and left him a distinctly humble individual. By his very nature he is somewhat reserved, though most would actually consider shy to be a more appropriate word to describe him, and despite his intimidating size he is uncomfortable when it comes to conflict with others. A more bookish individual than most Padawan, Jeth would often prefer to spend his time studying in the Jedi Archives or sifting through the archaeological data from the digs at Ossus and Dantooine. Despite his shyness Jeth is the epitome of what most would consider a Jedi to be, he is immensely hardworking, completely dedicated to the ideals of the Jedi Order and a very compassionate and fair individual, especially when it comes to the process of Jedi justice. Jeth is whether he realises it or not a rather accomplished diplomat in his own right, and is capable of stirring people into action with his words, of course if one were to say this to him he probably wouldn?t accept such a thing as being possible given his shyness. Of course this major self doubt in his own abilities is one of Jeth?s biggest flaws, as it prevents him from truly being able to know himself, which in turn prevents him from truly knowing the Force. Probably the most accurate words to describe Jeth would be those echoed by the current Chief Librarian Sienna Keto on many of the occasions she?s found the young Arkanian in the Archives in the early hours. Put simply she?d say ?He?s such a nice young man? and in reality it?s the best compliment Jeth feels he can ever be paid, as he has great respect for the Librarian Master. General Overview: Born in the Colony world of Arkanian, it was quite likely that Jeth was going to be identified as a Jedi candidate very early in his life. The first child of Galren Gara and Denasa, his parents believed right from his birth that their child was a Force-sensitive, a simple midi-chlorian check revealed that they were indeed correct and the young infant was name Galren Jeth. Jubilation was perhaps the best word to describe his family?s reaction in the knowledge that one of their own was going to be a Jedi, despite the fact that Arkanian Jedi are not uncommon, still it was something to celebrate. Dispatching a message to their Sector Watchman, the Human Jedi Master was to conclude that the infant was indeed suitable for Jedi training and that he be relocated to the Jedi Temple immediately for training. Of course Jeth was only two or three months old at this stage, and as concluded by the Council was not quite old enough to begin training per-se but would be kept in the Jedi Nursery with other infants who arrived too young to begin formal training. He spend the next few years curiously staring at the different constellations and images that would hover over his crib at night before he went to sleep. Over the course of the next twelve and a half years, Jeth as an Initiate or ?Youngling? was trained as part of the Katarn Clan by Jedi Master and later Chief Librarian Sienna Keto. At age thirteen he was one of the Padawan fortunate enough to be chosen by a Jedi Knight for continued training in the ways of the Force. Like many Initiates, Jeth had hoped to reach Knighthood himself by age eighteen, but such was never likely and a further five years later he is still judged not ready to take the Trials. Jeth has high hopes however that upon completing this diplomatic mission to the Brak Sector he will be elevated to the rank of Jedi Knight, but such is as always in the hands of the Jedi Council. Jedi Overview Lightsaber(s) Appearance: It is usual for a Padawan or Jedi to create several lightsabers over their course of their lifetime, as a reflection of their ever increasing knowledge of the Force and the galaxy. Often the older the Jedi, the more intricate and complex the design of the lightsaber. However Jeth is one of those Jedi or Padawan rather, in that the more lightsabers he has created, three so far, the more simplistic in appearance they have become. Of course this isn?t to say that they are unsophisticated, quite the opposite in fact. Preferring to keep the lightsaber smooth and comfortable in the hand, he has decided to forego the extra control switches that allow the manipulation of the lightsaber blade, and aside from the red activation switch there are no other control switches on the lightsaber. The outer casing of the lightsaber is probably one of the more impressive aspects to the Jedi tool, the casing itself is a quadrinium alloy, giving superior strength but also a relatively lighter weight compared to other sabres. Etched into the platinum coloured casing are a series of linear 3mm groves that cover the entire sabre itself, it is unknown if they have any significance as Jeth has never spoken about them. Given the use of a Hurrikaine Crystal in the lightsaber, the blade is only slightly darker than the normal Adegan blue as seen in crystals from Ilum. The dimensions of the lightsaber are somewhat larger than normal, the hilt being 36cms and the blade being roughly a meter ten. Lightsaber(s) Type: Crystal Lightsaber, the typical styled lightsaber of a Jedi. Having built three normal lightsabers over the course of his training, Jeth has developed a partiality for this type of lightsaber, enjoying the relative simplicity of the design, given that it performs it?s fundamental task as well as any other sabre variant. Lightsaber(s) Crystal/Colour: Certain crystals, like Mephite, have become the building blocks upon which most lightsabers are created. But there are others, more elusive crystals such as the Ankarres Sapphire or the Kaiburr Crystal upon which legends are built for their powers. At the heart of Jeth lightsaber is one such crystal, and though the Hurrikaine has not reached the same status as the Kaiburr outside the Archives, it is still a crystal to be held in respect for it?s powers. As has already been stated, the blade created by this deep blue crystal is subtly darker than that of a normal blue Mephite crystal. The Hurrikaine is famed for it?s ability to break through enemy defences, augmenting the kinetic force of the sabre?s impact upon another blade, the crystal also enhances the intensity of the blade itself increasing the damage yielded by a successful strike. Lightsaber Combat Style: Form V: Djem So. One would question why a Padawan as tentative as Jeth would choose to study a lightsaber style as emotionally laden as Djem So, it would seem far more in keeping with his methodology and persona to study the more passive and reserved form of Soresu. Of course like most questions in life, the question as to why Jeth studies Form V has a relatively simple answer, it allows him to divest himself of his frustrations and bottled up emotions. When he fully immerses himself in Form V there is a distinct change in Jeth?s personality, Djem So users are famed for their confidence, boldness and power, and Jeth is no different. Perhaps it is part of his Arkanian heritage breaking through his mental barriers at their weakest, perhaps it is just part of Jeth himself being able to break free of his own self-imposed restrictions. But whatever the reason, the quiet, bookish Padawan is transformed into a fearless, powerful warrior who is more than willing to use his own natural strength to his advantage. Favoured Force Power(s): All Jedi are more proficient at certain powers over others, and Jeth is no different. His strength in the Force and dedication to the old lore of the Jedi Order have allowed him to learn the Force Immunity power, granting him the ability to either dissipate or redirect enemy Force Powers right back at their original caster. The other ability with which Jeth has an affinity is the Battle Meditation Force Power, which of course was the signature power of the famed and progenitor Arkanian, Arca Jeth. View of the Force: Being as true to the teaching as the Jedi Order as he possible can, there is no doubt in Jeth?s mind that the view of the Force held by the Jedi Council is the correct one. There is the Light Side of the Force, the path all Jedi should strive to walk, the side from which all Jedi draw their strength, the side upon which the Dark Side cannot prevail. Then there is the Dark Side, the aspect of the Force that must be fought without fear, without hesitation and without end, it must always be fought, or the galaxy will suffer because of it. Those who walk the Dark path must be confronted and defeated, including those who would see the Potentium Heresy as acceptable, the Dark side is insidious and once one begins the path it will forever dominate one?s destiny.
4. Interesting, most interesting. It's been years since I played Final Fantasy VI, VII and VIII so forgive me if I can't recall who my favoured Aeons were in those games. I have started playing FFX again in the last few weeks and have actually had a relatively easy time because I'm just about to fight Seymour in Bevelle and Lulu just learned Flare, so until I get some Level 3 Key Spheres I'm not going anywhere in terms of the Grid. Still favourite Aeon. Final Fantasy X: This one is a toss up between Ifrit and Bahamut, I've always loved Ifrit and his look in FFX was so feral and powerful that it really did him justice in my point of view. While most people will only use Ifrit when they face an Ice based enemy, like Shiva for instance, I will use Ifrit at any occasion as until I had Bahamut I had no stronger overall Aeon. Then of course you have the utterly deadly Bahamut, who made the whole Bevelle trip worthwhile, aside from rescuing Yuna from that cad Seymour. As someone said earlier in the thread the whole crossed-arms thing gives him that whole "Don't **** with me look", then of course you take into account he's able to do over 9,999 damage right from the start and you can't help but love him.
5. Interesting, most interesting. Would getting hit on by a member of the same gender make me feel uncomfortable ? In all honesty I'd have to say yes, and very uncomfortable at that. I suppose being a Catholic is part of it, but there's also the whole deal with my mother's hairdresser who used to act very flamboyant when I was younger to make me uncomfortable being around him. I've been hit on once or twice by guys on holidays and while it is a bit flattering, I wouldn't be up for it every night, make me think I was doing something to encourage such attractions.
6. Interesting, most interesting. Well I suppose technically I could be referred to as an employed at the moment, given that I work approximately thirty hours per week but unfortunately don't get paid for it. My job for the lack of a better work is the role of cleaner, maid and cook rolled into one at home, a job which requires me to work some five/six hours day given my family. On top of that as my grandmother owns a farm, though not very large, I'm expected to go out for an hour or two most weekends and move through mucky fields chasing after cattle. Earlier in the year when I was working I think my minimum wage was something like ?7.25, which is over $8 but Ireland seems to be a fairly affluent country at the moment, and is also the most expensive in Europe.
7. Interesting, most interesting.
GUESS WHAT I HEARD THAT A EB GAMES STORE GOT ROBBED THE DAY AFTER THE XBOX 360 CAME OUT HE CLEANED THEIR ENTIRE STOCK OF XBOX 360'S     :animeangr :animeangr :animeangr
Such is life I'm afraid Naruto890, whenever these new systems come out there are inevitably robberies by organised crime syndicates in order to make money. I recall a similar incident with Nintendo Gamecubes a few years ago, there was a whole truck full of them stolen by some criminal group. Of course this could be just some nutcase fan?s way of getting a 360 without having to fork over the impressive price for one, though I get the feeling my initial supposition is the more accurate one.
8.
Yesterday she got put on some meds, but it is ok she still is the same person that I know.
Well given that medication can often alter the personality of someone taking them, I think you should be relieved that she is getting help and that it's not changed the person you know, which is of course the most important thing, well next to her getting better of course. If the meds seem to be working then I think all you can do at this stage is assure her that you'll be there for her.
9. Interesting, most interesting. Given the two options in the poll, I must agree with Alex and whoever else has called ?peace through war? the more likely of the two to be successful in it?s endeavour. I suppose the old adage ?peace through superior firepower? had been the hallmark of most prevented wars in the last half century, though as Alex has already pointed out, many of these militant groups like Al-Qaeda are worried not by such a disadvantage as inferior firepower. In all honesty I think that world peace, or at least some measure of it, will occur at some stage in the future, either that or we?ll have all annihilated ourselves in the Third World War and it won?t really matter. Systems of pseudo-government such as the European Union will eventually become full continental governments, and after that it?s only a matter of time before all nations are integrated together and we have a single global nation. I mean given the assimilation of people over the course of human history, from basically herds of people being governed only by themselves, to the creation of kingdoms, empires and other monarchies, to the creation of the Republic to the point now where we are differentiated by what nation we?re part of. I?m not saying there won?t be violence, corruption or anything we have in our current forms of government at the moment, I?m just saying that world peace as we know it, will come about when there?s only one nation made up of all peoples. World peace as most people would dream of will only come about when people give up those baser emotions that create problems in the first place, greed for instance.
10. Interesting, most interesting. Ah, the double achievement of being the first European and first Irishman to post. Well as my initial response may have hinted, I hail from the Emerald Isle about ten or so miles from the town of Clonmel in South Tipperary. It's a fairly normal town in itself twenty-something thousand people, some nice shops, a few good pubs and a grand little cinema for when you feel like it.
11. Interesting, most interesting. Corey pretty much took the words out of my mouth, if you girlfriend suffers from depression and isn't seeing a psychiatrist regularly or taking medicine to help her control her attacks, or preferably both, then she needs to be soon. I've only ever gotten two panic attacks in my entire life and they are not something I would like to get in quick succession of one another. As good an idea as it seems to just be there and tell her that you'll always be there, she needs the kind of help that unfortunately we lay-people just can't provide.
12. Interesting, most interesting. This was a rather odd question for me, as a Catholic I shouldn't fear death and in a way once I've lived a long life I should look forward to it. But then I also have the heart of a scientist and I'd love to keep living in order to see how humanity will evolve technologically, philosophically and politically over the next century and beyond. I suppose being raised on Star Trek, Star Wars and generally Science Fiction has made me very much interested in technological advancement in the future. So the question is, would I want to live forever by myself, reaping the rewards of an endless quest for knowledge, or would I rather live about eighty years and then die knowing that my life as it was, was in the first step in a great journey ? Now that's a damn tough question if ever I heard one. I have to admit though I think as enjoyable as an endless quest for knowledge would be, I would eventually like to die knowing that I would go on to somewhere greater, something greater. So for me, I'll take what time I'm given by the big man above, and when he says it's time to go he'll get no argument out of me.
13.
Correct. In less than 48 hours Body Bags will begin. -Shy
Ah, so it all comes unveiled in just over forty-four hours time, I can't help but feel giddy at the thought of seeing exactly how the eliminations in this are going to work out. Still one must savour the anticipation of the moment, we'll see everything soon enough.
14. Interesting, most interesting. At the speeds my connection gets I'm going to have to forego watching the trailer, though if at all possible I prefer not to watch trailers or read spoilers about films I'm going to go see. Like Mike I'm probably not as big a fan of PoTC as others, though I must admit I did enjoy the comically over-the-top performances by Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush. Hopefully as Dagger said, they'll keep the comedy in tandem with the action as they did last time round.
15. Interesting, most interesting. Well in a situation like this I would advise that you continue your relationship with Korey, as he is the person you are currently involved with and you genuinely do seem to care about. You have already said that you tried a long-distance relationship with this Jeremy and it didn't work out, so unless he has moved to within easy travelling distance, it would seem logical that you're just nostalgic for your old relationship with him. In the end it's really up to you as to what you do in this situation, but as the old saying goes "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush".
16. Interesting, most interesting. As Raiyuu was saying "leetspeak" is usually just some jackasses way of trying to sound in-the-know Net-wise and ending up looking like a complete tool because they can't be bothered to spell properly. Thankfully we have only a few n00bs about the site who dedicate themselves to replying entirely in such a manner. Generally those who use leetspeak are the same kind of people who us "Txt" spelling in a mobile phone message.
1 g075 73l-l n3kk1d 1337 5k1ll5. There, I said it. And there's not a thing anyone can do about it. >_>
Aside from Raiyuu or any of the other Moderators just editing your post and removing it.
17. Interesting, most interesting. Like most people here the things I am most grateful for are the things I take most for granted, my family, my friends, my home and my health, though I do thank God for them every time I think to do it. I suppose other things I'm thankful for is that I live in arguably a democratic country, have a good standard of living and am not oppressed in any shape or form. I think even when times seen their darkest, have things to be grateful for and it is important we accept such things and pay our dues for them.
18. Interesting, most interesting. My life outside OtakuBoards is generally a fairly normal existence, at the moment I'm looking to return to secondary school to complete my education before I can go on to college. However while staying at home I'm also a full-time cook and cleaner which leaves me with precious little time with which to study, I try to work on the odd RPG idea too if I have a spare moment. Then once it hits eight o'clock in the evening I'm off to the gym for an hour to work off stress and get some needed exercise. That pretty much details a weekday for me, my weekend is slightly different in that I don't have to cook or clean as much and I get to spend more time playing videogames, watching movies and reading, or should the chance present itself a nice game of golf. In terms of hobbies I enjoy but wouldn't do on a weekly basis, you could toss in going to the cinema and meeting old friends for a few drinks in the pub though the latter only occurs every few months. And such is the mostly uneventful life of Gavin.
19. Interesting, most interesting. Based on your replies throughout this thread, I think it's fair to say that you are either bisexual or you have simply entered the age where infatuation with either gender is common. I know you don't consider fourteen to be young, but in fairness it is and just because you know people who are sexually involved at the such an age does not make them any more mature. I must admit that in my eighteen and a half years I have never once even looked at another man with any kind of interest, I suppose though given the responses here such is less normal than I thought. I don't know if I've ever truly loved any of my previous girlfriends, I have cared for them deeply but I don't know if I could ever say I have loved them. There was one girl whom I knew, a girl called Fiona Clancy who I adored from afar, and I think I always loved her in a true sense. It transcended infatuation and while I was very attracted to her, my feelings and desires were completely without lust. I may not be making much sense, but she was my great love I think, and I never worked up the courage to tell her how I felt. As for the moral side of homosexuality and bisexuality, well my standings of them are already well known and I see no reason to add to the debate.
20. Interesting, most interesting. Name: Grenn Tallig Age: 34 Imperial Standard Years Gender: Male Appearance: A man in Grenn's line of work knows the value of not been seen, after all the best bounty hunters are the ones who leave no trace of themselves once the job is done. Having cut a path through the galaxy, quite literally, one would assume that Tallig would at least be recognisable to those who would seek his services, but Grenn is more than well aware that the difference between a legendary bounty hunter and a has-been sitting in an Imperial detention cell awaiting execution can be something as simple as being recognised. Here is the most recent image of Grenn , taken at some earlier this year, though of course given the fact that so few, if any people would recognise him outside of his mask it is unlikely that this single image would draw any attention. Tall and athletically built for a human, one might mistake Tallig for an aristocrat or of even higher noble birth, he radiates an aura of charm, sophistication and charisma but most important to his facade, he appears someone completely trustworthy. A rigorous training regime leaves the 1.85 metre hit man at the peak of physical fitness, given that a single nanosecond could mean the difference between a clean kill and a burning sensation where his heart used to be. His dress sense, like everything else about Grenn is methodically perfected in order to tailor the image he wished to present people with, usually he dons himself with darker more form-fitting clothing as to enhance his physical presence. Biography: There is little of his beginnings that Grenn would deem of value, his parents were two very ordinary people from some backwater planet in the Mid Rim who decided to fall in love, marry and eventually start a family. Grenn was the end result of their union, but he would know little of his parents given that they were to die in a speeder accident when he was only a few months old. But fate would smile on the young Tallig, as it seems to have done throughout his entire life, as quite by chance he was spared from an untimely demise at the hands of a Jedi Knight. This Jedi, an arrogant and wilful young man took the child back to Coruscant as proof of his chivalry and skill, not only had he saved a infant but he had brought the Jedi a child who might make a fine Knight with enough training. The years of his youth were to pass quickly for Grenn, he was given a name that he has now discarded, given that the young Knight had not even bothered to investigate the names of the people killed in the speeder accident. By puberty he had grow to be proficient in the ways of the Force, his skill was not something to behold but eventually he was chosen as a Padawan by a Jedi who?s name history would not retain. Grenn immediately found himself disliking his master, he was a coarse and boorish individual, far too concerned with his place in history as opposed to his Padawan?s well-being. By age sixteen Grenn has become so disillusioned with the Jedi Order and it?s methods that he would engineer the death of his Master, through which he would engineer his freedom. It was not the Dark Side that called to Grenn, but the lure of being able to make his own decisions in life, and having power to ensure his decisions were not countermanded by others. On a mission into the Outer Rim world of Eriadu he goaded his Master into single-handedly trying to defeat a slave syndicate that had come to their attention, the end result was that his Master was dead and Grenn was left to fend for himself on a world where a single misstep could lead to his demise. Fortunately Grenn was to make himself a name very quickly on Eriadu, his Jedi skills coupled with a desire to survive lead him to the attention of one of the many Overseers of the Exchange, a man who was willing to give Tallig all that he desired on the condition that he be moulded into Overseers personal weapon. In the beginning Grenn was happy with the arrangement, he shared company with beautiful girls, owned impressive properties all across Eriadu and earned the respect that he so desired in life. Unfortunately as he grew older, his employer sought to continue taking advantage of Grenn with a contract that was very obviously unacceptable to the most proficient contract killer on the planet. A brief fire fight ensued in which Tallig slaughtered the Overseer, three of his personal bodyguards and a handful of sexual consorts. Now aged in his mid twenties Grenn would move from system to system either dodging the vengeful hand of the Exchange or taking up new bounties that piqued his interest. For the next seven years he would live as a shadow of the bounty hunter he could be, and so decided that the most direct route of action was to simple eliminate the Exchange at it?s source on Nar Shaddaa or more accurately eliminate it?s current leadership and leave those who would replace them with the distinct understanding that any further bounties on his life would result in their execution as well. After a torrent of blood and severed limbs, Grenn left Hutt Space a free man. Since then he has meandered through the Galaxy making his name even more well known, though not his appearance, and lived a lifestyle befitting someone of nobility. However all that changed when Tallig became aware that his reality, that all he had accomplished could so easily have been different were it not for the whim of a greater being that himself. Armaments: A man of Grenn?s origins and tastes would see wielding a blaster of any description as lowering himself, he is in tune with the Force itself and the only weapon befitting him is his lightsaber. Unremarkable in many ways, it has been streamlined in design with many of the extra control switches removed for the sake of appearance, the blade, a deep bronze in colour has not been used in quite some time, as often the Force itself is all he needs to end his target?s life. His skills with a lightsaber have improved over the years, as has his control of the Force but his power is nothing to truly separate him from any other typical Jedi and he very much doubts it ever will. Sample Post: Of all the worlds that Grenn felt most at home on, Coruscant was probably top of the list, the capital of the Galaxy itself was a fitting home of the galaxy?s most dangerous bounty hunter. His target, a senator who?s eyes had strayed into concerns that were not his would be along shortly, his penchant for ?the finer things in life? would be his undoing. As much as he might have enjoyed being able to ignite his lightsaber and simply slay the man where sat, such would draw too much unnecessary attention. No, in this situation it would be far better to simple allow the fool to be the architect of his own demise. Perhaps the most important lesson he had even been taught while simply serving as a hired gun for the Exchange was that invariably those with power became so smug, so secure in the knowledge that they were untouchable, that they made startlingly foolish errors of judgement. Having watched the senator for the better part of a month, and profiled his movements for over a year, he had learned that the senator frequently had his serving droid bring him two drinks approximately midway through entertainment. While the drinks themselves could be easily spiked with any form of traceless toxin or poison, Grenn preferred a less orthodox approach. The droid like any pawn was insignificant by itself, though as part of the whole strategy it became invaluable. He watched motionless as the droid hovered silently while waiting for it?s master to greedily down the Corellian ales with little realisation that he would be dead mere moments later. While most bounty hunters would formulate a detailed and intensely complex plan to avoid being tied to the crime in any conceivable way, it was often such plans backfired either leaving the target unharmed or the bounty hunter themselves caught because of a small detail not taken into account. In reality it was far better to come up with a relatively simple plan, that either made the assassination look like an accident, unavoidable or otherwise and then move before any details went askew. "Ah" he murmured "Feeling a bit strange are we senator ?" The senator's face had begun to visibly redden, while there had been nothing within the drink itself that would cause him harm, the droid's repulsors projecting an anti-gravity field, might just cause those metallic dust particles from his drink to rise into the back of his throat, then when he took his second drink, that?s when things would start to get interesting. And as if directed, one stubby little hand grasped the class of ale as if it were an elixir of life and downed it with such force that Grenn thought he might splutter it back up if he weren?t careful. But fortunately the amber liquid stayed where it was supposed to, at least for the time being. ?Five... four... three... two... one...? Grenn watched eagerly as the senator?s hands now shot around his throat, his face had reached a shade of purple and before he could even protest his plight, his eyes had rolled up in his head and he lay dead in his seat. Nonchalantly, Tallig raised himself from the rather comfortable chair where he?d watched his work carried out so perfectly, it was a shame really that he had to leave now, the opera was just reaching one of it?s more exuberant movements and he hated to miss them. Still work was work, and he couldn?t acquaint himself with the pleasures of life everyday, courteously he excused himself as he moved through the throngs of holo-journalists awaiting the rush of famous faces following the end of the opera. The wonderful thing about journalists was that they rarely paid attention to those who didn?t conform to the current celebrity roster, he might very well have been some executive for the Intergalactic Banking Clan, it didn?t matter anyway, his picture wouldn?t be taken and he?d walk out of the opera-house like any other patron of the arts. ?After I?m paid for this little inconvenience? he thought smugly ?I must return and watch the entire opera without interruption, though I should think that after tonight?s performance by the good senator it will be quite some time before I have the opportunity to do so? He sighed bitterly ?Some people really do have no consideration for the needs of others...? 21. I suppose if we are to give members the right to change their names, a sensible change period would be about once every three months as Des suggested, though I myself think that most members wouldn't change their username that often.
Hrr, it's scary to think that one day we might all be known as a random series of letters and numbers. X/
Well if such is the case I'm claiming TK-421 before anyone else does, or perhaps THX-1138 though without having actually seen the movie the former would make more sense. 22. Interesting, most interesting. To respond to the original point of the thread, I don't think it's really necessary to have a whole section of the site dedicated as a notice board where people can look up who's changed their name recently. As has already been said, the Admins add the little note to your signature to inform people of your previous username and then of course you have the fact that most people's avatars and banners remain the same before and after the change. I don't know how many people change their name on average per day so it might be worth just having a segment at the bottom of the Index, like the "Who's Online" feature. As to the idea of granted members the ability to change their username at will, I must admit I'd be against the idea. As Josh pointed out, unless there are safe-guards put in place to prevent changing from occurring too regularly, which we can be sure there will be if it goes though, the potential for abuse is rife. I mean I'll admit I've changed my username a few times over my four years stay on OB, but I still feel the current system of PMing an Admin to do the job is better than allowing members themselves do it. 23. Interesting, most interesting. I find personally, as Shinji pointed out earlier in the thread that the vast majority of the debates and arguments here on OtakuBoards are generally quite reserved and in fairness are a lot of fun to be involved in. Being one of the few infamous members who actively debates here on OB, I've only ever found that things spiral out of control is when people start to make retorts personal. Such "controversial" threads as Gay Marriage and the like often lead to more heated arguments because the two sides are split no middle ground, there's not really any compromise. When stuff starts to get personal it ruins the fun of the debate, I know some of you will wonder how there's any fun in arguing with someone else over what you consider to be right, but just ask Alex and he'll agree with me. The thrill of getting verbally sparring against someone else is definitely one of the more entertaining aspects of the Lounge, again some may see it as simple fighting but as Annie said older members are able to distinguish between attacks and just retorts. I think fighting starts when people aren't willing to continue debating against those on the opposite side, and only through childish insults can they try and end the argument. I recall a particular member, who shall remain nameless at this time, though many of you will know who I'm talking about, who would simply label anyone who didn't agree with them as a bigot. Then of course fighting starts when something is taken the wrong way or twisted as an insult and you can't stop people from taking it personally but thankfully this is rare. Overall actually I think OB has much more mature debates than other forums, where people can voice their opinions without being flamed for it.
24. Heh that last joke of yours had me in stitches Chabi.
A couple decide to go for a meal on their anniversary and after some deliberation decide on their local Chinese restaurant. They peruse the menu and finally agree to share the chef's special 'Chicken Surprise'. The waiter brings over the meal, served in a lidded cast iron pot. Just as the wife is about to start in on the meal, the lid of the pot rises a tiny amount and she briefly sees two beady little eyes looking around before the lid slams back down. "Good grief, did you see that?" she asks her husband. He hasn't so she asks him to look in the pot. He reaches for it and again the lid rises, and again he sees two beady little eyes looking around before it firmly slams back down. Rather perturbed he calls the waiter over, explains what is happening and demands an explanation. "Well sir," says the waiter, "What did you order?" "We both chose the same," he replies, "the Chicken Surprise." "Oh, I do apologise, this is my fault," says the waiter... Wait for it... "I've brought you the Peking duck."
I've really got to get some better e-mail jokes.
25. Interesting, most interesting. I think the first paragraph of Dagger's post sums up most of my thoughts on the subject, if members did have the right to delete threads they started just because they don't like the way it's being responded to, there'd be no point in posting replies at all. Now I remember back when we actually had this feature and although I don't recall any major abuses of it, I'd still prefer to see the back of it rather than have to see the consequences of abuse. If you want to have a thread deleted all you have to do is PM one of the Moderators and ask them to do it, of course you need a valid reason first, otherwise you tend to look like an over opinionated idiot.
