Hey woah, I have nothing against Ireland being a whole country again nor do I have anything against Scotland and Wales having their own Parliaments (I was always for Britain being a continent rather than a nation anyway ^_~) and I do realise that Britain is based on Empire and conquest but that comes at a time when forced expansion and conquest were prefectly acceptable part of foreign policy, as it had been for centuries previously. For some reason everyone hates powerful countries, and now that we aren't a power in the world hostility from the other British nations really isn't required. This can all be sorted in a civilized manner without resorting to blowing everyone to **** ¬_¬. In other news, I am allowed to be proud of my country for what it is and with Labour in power thats not really something I can be.
Reading over it I guess it did sound harsh which wasn't at all the way I intended it to sound, if you were taken aback by my comments then I'd like to apologise. It seems my Nationalistic side got the better of my common sense, something that seems to happen when Northern Ireland is discussed. I don't think people necessarily hate powerful nations, I think people dislike nations who like to force their ideals down on others, I won't mention any names though.

Interesting, most interesting. Like James and Japan I don't think you can just flame all casual gamers because they don't play games to the excess, many casual gamers just don't have the time to play games to the same levels that so-called hardcore gamers do. On that same note just because certain gamers don't play as many games as "hardcore" gamer do doesn't mean that they don't enjoy games any less . I personally wouldn't consider myself a hardcore gamer, I don't play that many games due simply to the fact that I don't have the money to continuously buy new ones after finishing my other games. I've grown up around consoles and PCs, from the NES and Windows 5.1 to my Gamecube and XPS, and throughout all the time I've played games for one purpose: for enjoyment. I know a fair few people who consider themselves hardcore gamers, and in my experience a hardcore gamer is one who spends the better part of a week playing a game to the absolute excess and coming back saying they've beaten it 100% with all the secrets and bonuses. Now I have nothing against the kind of gaming, and if they enjoyed the storyline and characters then fair play to them, when KOTOR and KOTOR 2 came out I played them like that. But after beating KOTOR and KOTOR 2 the first time at speed I went back over it, just enjoying the dialog and storyline rather than racing to complete the game 100% and declaring myself hardcore. I played the games casually and soaked up all the enjoyment I could from them. To say that every casual gamer is a n00b who knows nothing and should shut up is plain stupidity, as are calling games like Grand Theft Auto a purely n00b game, the GTA series has built itself up as being a very playable and excellent game series. Any gamer who has completed a game and enjoyed it, or even is just playing a game and enjoying it has the right to speak the mind about it. I think what people are trying to say is that they object to people who disrespect gaming, and that isn't being casual about gaming. I wouldn't say that someone who buys a new release and trades it in a week later is casual, I'd say they're just plain silly. Casual gamer, hardcore gamer, in the end they're all just gamers.

Interesting, most interesting. A poem about my stable food stuff, I cannot imagine a nicer subject matter or one which would send the reader involuntarily to go and eat some toast to truly appreciate the poem. Great poem, let's have some more about Chinese food or fried steak.
I know. We're going to put a chip in every human being in the world, a chip that records the genetic code of everyone you have sex with. If it registers that someone you are having sex with has a similar genetic code to you then fzzzt, little electric shock. Of course that may not be a deterrent, I mean some people get off on some crazy stuff soooo, it also sends a little alert to the local police station, so you can expect PC Plod to come knocking any time now ^_~. Hows that for police action.
Heh that'd be a great solution to the problem, I can just imagine some poor sod walking down the street with his groceries and suddenly he gets a shock and drops everything. It's very doubtful that it could ever been introduced as some of the technicians might just get a kick out of shocking people they know, it'd be the dawn of a whole new age of practical jokes.
Well, see, I figured we'd get something like high voltage cattle prods to use for the mod rods. Something that could put a person on the floor and keep them down for a few minutes. It would be like a temporary ban, after a warning smack or two.
I just had to laugh as I read that, when you said rods I was thinking more along the lines of police truncheons but I think the cattle-prod idea would work much better and have far funnier results. Though I can say with experience that a shock from one of those cattle-prods sting like heck, damn my little brother to hell with his mischief.

Personally I prefer to read only one book at a time, as I can concentrate more fully on the plot and just enjoy the book itself. I can't remember if I've ever tried to read multiple books at the same time, I don't recall any time in the last while that I've done it. Actually I can remember trying to read a number of early Star Wars novels at the same time and I found it distracting as I'd forget parts of what was going on, and like Mike it took me longer to finish the books than it would have if I had done them one at a time. Well the vast majority of the counting is finished and what should come to nobody as a great surprise Labour has won, even though Labour have made a bit of a dog's dinner of some things [the Iraq War and Pensions for examples] I still believed that between themselves and the Tories they were the better choice. But realistically the Conservatives weren't going to win this election, yes they've drawn closer to Labour and cut their majority to 65 seats but that's all most people expected would happen, my one main comment about Michael Howard was that he was too grim, there was nothing positive about his campaign. The Liberal Democrats have made some good gains and should be on the path to eventually become a good opposition party, Charles Kennedy even though he lost a few seats gained 11 overall and has improved the Lib Dem position considerably. Even though Labour have won this election the voters have shown Tony that if he wants to keep his job, or rather keep Labour in power then he has to shape up and start listening to the people who put him in government. And even though the Tories and Lib Dems were beaten, Tony will probably take things from their Manifestos and augment it into his own policies, some of which can already been heard in his speeches. Interestingly enough Charles Kennedy appears to be the only one of the three leaders who will be leading his party into the next election in about 2010.
no you aren't. but the lib dems would certainly not be any better. personally, i reckon it'd be good to se veritas in power, se if they could do things different.
Yes Veritas, the party that bridges the gap between UKIP and the British National Party in terms of intolerable racism, as we saw in the votes today people are indeed smart enough to put down racists where they belong in the poles. It's just a shame that Kilroy has Irish grandparents as he does great dishonour to them and all Irish people.
True there are some conservative ideals that are a bit hard lined such as N. Ireland remaining British and many things that others consider to be racist and bigoted. However, no one is inflexible and I believe that a stronger leadership and government provided by Mr Howard will give Britain the backbone it needs. We have become far too weak and dependant on other nations for our policy and we are far too concerned with how other races and nationalities will view us in our own country. You have to be willing to step on a few toes to get things done and Labour just aren't willing to do that..[/SIZE']
Such as Northern Ireland ? doukeshi03 by all right the Republic of Ireland should just tell Paisley and his crowd of unionist extremists to shove off, Northern Ireland is part of Ireland, and Ireland should be ruled by the Irish and nobody else. To my knowledge the Scottish are already seeking to separate their Parliament from the one in Westminster and reports from Wales seems that they are ready to take the first steps to create their own Parliament. Britain as you call it was forged on an Empire, conquest and colonisation, Ireland, America, India, Britain has been reduced to a shell of what it once was because people just don't like being represented in another nation. The E.U. isn't perfect but I can tell you as an Irish person I feel far better being represented by my own government in Europe where we can work on things, rather than a powerless MP in Westminster.
I'd go if the moderators were to get real mod rods and could walk around smacking people who cause trouble.
Heh I have to admit Des that if we did all meet up in real life, and the mods did have genuine rods then I think they'd be a bit reluctant about hitting people with them. It's one thing to be a Moderator on OB, but it's be a whole different thing to be one IRL, some Moderators might think twice about going to hit someone 6'2" with a rod. I know it was probably just a joke but it might have some interesting consequences.
It might be possible to allow people to mass-submit things like summaries in the future (think GameFAQs and how they have multiple entries for one subject - ie: multiple reviews for one game). Older siblings, Younger siblings; What's with them?
Gavin replied to Shadow Blade's topic in General Discussion
Interesting, most interesting. Well I'm eighteen and the eldest in my family with a pair of younger siblings, one brother and one sister. My younger brother is fifteen and two and a half years younger than me, and my sister is thirteen and just under five years my junior. I get on well most of the time with my younger brother as we share a lot of common interests and played together most of the time when we were younger, heck we spend a fair bit of the time joking around even now. My little sister is a different kettle of fish altogether, over the last few years her attitude towards me has got progressively worse, most of the time it's just her demanding to be allowed watch things and cursing at me if I do something she dislikes. It's grating and very annoying and often leads to rows between us, but at the back of it all I love my sister very much and would do anything for her. In a case of "which is worse" younger siblings definitely take the trophy, even though older siblings can be bossy and arrogant sometimes we have lived longer and are generally a little wiser than you. -
I would like to congratulate you for creating such a great forum.

I've always thought that Otakuboards is, in my own experience the best run and maintained anime-related boards on the web. At this stage you could even argue that it's only fractionally related to anime, due to the fact that it represents only one small section of the discussion and role-playing subject matter on the site.
Coincidence? I think not.
Heh that sounds exactly like the line Robin Williams used when he was talking about his and Billy Connolly's drinking habit. -
Interesting, most interesting. In terms of Incest where both individuals know that they are related to one another then of course it should be illegal. I suppose my main objection would be on the medical grounds due to the obvious dangers of pregnancy and subsequent childbirth, but on another level of sheer revulsion that someone was knowingly engaging in sexual acts with members of their family. If the two people didn't know one another then I don't really think there's any law can be passed against it, they don't know so how could we know ? If the couple went on to get married and found out that they were related then I would be against the marriage for my main reason. I guess it would also depend on how closely related the two people were, if they were like 5th or 6th cousins then the medical objections are lessened significantly. In such a case then I'm not really sure if it would be called incest, as there's only a small blood relation between the two people, at 5th or 6th cousins you're talking about your great-great-grandfather's [for instance] being related. At that stage I guess it would be simply down to their feelings on the subject.
Only if you're part of the royal family.[/COLOR']
Well actually most of Europe's royal families are related to one another, in World War One for instance, the German Kaiser and Russian Tsar were grandchildren or grandnephews of the Queen of England [Who's family is in fact German in descent].

Interesting, most interesting. Well I've heard some pretty unbelievable brags from people before, most I've dismissed straight out of hand but some have been so wild that just for a laugh I sit down and hear them out. Some of the funnier ones I've heard are: "I've captured all 160 Pokémon in Pokémon Red, and they're all at level 100 !!" "I got all my characters in KOTOR [1] to level 100 in 17 hours." "I got to $99,999,999,999 in GTA3 in only one days without using any cheats." And so on.

Interesting, most interesting. Hmm out of the options I suppose World Domination would be the most attractive one, having enough money to ensure that you can control all the money in the world would be an obvious bonus. Beyond World Domination I suppose like Juu I'd like to travel the world, there are some many historical cities that I'd love to go through at my own leisure without worrying about time restraints and the such.

Interesting, most interesting. As Britain is the Republic of Ireland's biggest trading partner, whoever gets into 10 Downing Street later in the week will have a fairly big impact on things. I've been following SkyNews coverage of the events leading up to the vote tomorrow and really it's a near certainty that Labour are going to be back in government. I've always seen Labour as the lesser of the two evils in British politics, as the Lib Dems probably won't gain enough power to become the main opposition party. In Ireland the Conservative Party are viewed with a great sense of distrust, as they were the main ones against Home Rule in Ireland for years. However in saying that there are certain aspect of Mr Howard's policies that do reflect certain things that are common sense. Controlled immigration for one thing is something that Irish politicians need to seriously consider as we're starting to get a fair share of illegitimate asylum seekers and drug runners, in Dublin for instance the Nigerians have set up a one-billion euro crack-cocaine empire. However I disagree completely with their plans for the NHS as it's simply suicidal, if Howard tries to implement his plans he'll more than likely bankrupt it. I haven't really heard too much on the Liberal Democrats to made any truly informed decisions about their policies. They seem to be going along the same lines as every other major party, the NHS, schools, MRSA although that's linked to the NHS. They do however seem to have some good ideas for pensioners, a section of society who I believe should have some very sincere consideration. I think that given time the Lib Dems could become a party to contend with if they're able to keep up the gains in the election. As for Labour, I see them as a mix between Conservatives and Lib Dems, they've got some good ideas and made some very bad choices. I'd personally prefer to see Tony Blair stay as PM rather than having Gordon Brown, put simply he lacks charisma, he knows his sums but he doesn't present a great face for politics. Overall I reckon that Labour would be the safest bets for the time being, Michael Howard is alright as leader of the opposition, and Charles Kennedy represents a good choice for future PM, but at the moment I think Tony is the best choice.

Interesting, most interesting. Back when I was ten or twelve I went on a vacation to the UK to stay with my grandaunt and tour London. While we were there we went to the Planetarium and Madame Tussauds, and as I was going through the Madame Tussauds I bumped into Pierce Brosnan, I didn't realise it at the time I can remember thinking back on it and thinking "I just met the Irish 007". Back a few years ago Dublin's RDS did a Star Wars Expo and my father, my brother and I went to see it. After doing the tour while we were wandering around there was a fairly big group of people surrounding an exceptionally tall man, that man was Peter Mayhew A.K.A. Chewbacca. I remember I actually got to shake hands with him and he was so tall I was half expecting him to rattle off something like "Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum". Really pleasant fellow, it was great to meet him.

Interesting, most interesting. Well I'm just going to outright say it, I hate rain, I loathe it more than almost any other weather, my absolute most hated condition is humid weather, because it gives me really bad headaches. In Ireland we usually only get maybe six or seven weeks of good summer weather per year, and as such the rest of the time it's either cold, wet or a mixture of both with cloudy weather. So my favourite weather would have to be warm summer weather, not baking hot mind you, but just above the twenties [Celsius] with a gentle wind that we get during the summer is just perfect. I'm not really a winter person but I do like the odd bit of snow as it makes the country side look really picturesque.

What Does your sig, avi and username say about you.
Gavin replied to shinji172's topic in General Discussion
Interesting, most interesting. I don't know Kairi well enough to make an observation on her text without possibly making an *** of myself, however I noticed Dragon Warrior replied and I'd like to dredge through his murky mind and see if we can shed some light on the being also known as Gavin [well other Gavin then]. [Puts on Psychiatrist's Jacket and Monocle] Username: Remaining the same after so many years, Gavin doesn't not feel the need to change his name, or is simply unable to change it to his real one due to my taking it. His adds a space between the Dragon and the Warrior indicating that he has both an interest in fantasy and sweaty armour clad men, although that could be debated. It could also mean that Gavin has an interest in Warriors from myth and legend, possibly due to their abilities to attain the love of many women, something Gavin attempts to emulate with varying degrees of success. Custom Title: Obviously Gavin figures himself to be a bit of a ladies man, with the good looks to match. This is a clear case of an advanced inferiority complex, Gavin believes that he can only get women by using some kind of foul black magicks. The roots of this complex may lie elsewhere, a mild Oedipus complex perhaps or possibly something else. Avatar: Again linked to Gavin's over-active sex drive, this possibly indicates the fate of any women or other individual drawn to his bed, the dreaded position known as The Monkey. This may also represent Gavin's attire when he goes out in search of these women, or it could just be part of his fetish for Final Fantasy, or perhaps a mixture of both being a tribute to his attraction to the women of Final Fantasy. Graphic: Although not strictly linked to either his post or signature, this is more confirmation that Gavin does indeed suffer from an inferiority complex. He feels the need to thrust out there that he has been somewhere, in order to secure his need to feel that he is noticed. Again the graphic pays homage to his Final Fantasy/Darkly-clad pervert obsession. Signature: One of the more complex puzzles in decoding his mind, Gavin obviously enjoyed the work of Tom Burton, either that or he dislikes Christmas, either of which could be possible given his mental state. His link to the GAME MAKER thread also present us with the fact that Gavin enjoys making videogames, something that may allow him to merge his "interest" in women and Final Fantasy. The different crosses are perhaps a representation of other "alpha males" which Gavin feels he has defeated for breeding rights among the females, either that or he's a weirdo and likes crosses and death. His multiple links to the Wickersleeves story serve as testament to his need for constant attention, without which he feels he may wither and die. Dr Gavin Freud, signing off. This was purely humorous and is in no way related to my actual thoughts on Gavin. -
And I'd say that's a really bad exaggeration lol. The guy didn't write the show. The reason it sucks now is a shift in writers and producers. Ian Maxtone Graham, for example, is quoted in saying that he'd never even seen the show before writing for it. You can tell that much just by watching any of the episodes he is responsible for. Somehow he became one of the producers since then. The main problem is that now the show is a parody of itself. Characters are charicatures of their former selves. Moe is so depressing that you can't even like him anymore. The same with Ralph and his absolute extreme stupidity. Any shred of depth these characters had is completely out the window. I can say the same of really any other character within the showm honestly. Then you have issues with blood. The show used to use it sparingly, but there's entire scenes where blood is literally gushing. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't think it fits this series and it certainly is not funny. It had a great place in Itchy and Scratchy, which were a great commentary on TV violence in and of themselves, but certainly not in the main show. Further proof of its parodizing, as far as I'm concerned. I think another issue is that the show completely embraces pop-culture. Before it used to satirize and poke fun at these things. Now it dedicates entire episodes to it. The Simpsons is like a forty year old man that wants to pretend he's still twenty. It's not fooling anyone. Family Guy might not be as witty as the Simpsons in its prime, but it's certainly witty in general. It has a lot of book, film and pop-culture references that I'm really starting to believe go over most of its audience's heads (or at least a lot of the younger people I know who watch it). I'd not dismiss it as pure randomness with no thought beforehand. In any case, if you don't the Simpsons now, don't support the new seasons. It's a waste of time to tune in every week and complain. You're watching it, Fox gets its advertising money. The only way they'll put this cow out of its misery is only if the ratings go down. I'm doing my part and have for the last three years now.
I could probably spend the better part of fifteen minutes trying to write down exactly what I think of The Simpson's progression as a syndicated comedy over that last decade and a half. Now I could do that, or I could just quote what Tony has said and save myself that fifteen minutes as I agree with pretty much everything he has said. The Simpson's lost it's spark many years ago and special guest celebrities and crappy storylines will not restore it to it's former glory.

Interesting, most interesting. I saw Hero a few months back, and thought it has some of the finest cinematography of any film in the last few years. The story itself was mildly interesting, with enough twists to actually keep your mind focused on the developments between battles, although it could be definitely said that the one-on-one fights were the centrepiece to the whole film. I haven't seen House of Flying Daggers yet, although I'll probably rent it sometime in the next while when it comes out. The director of both films is Zhang Yimou [thanks to Movietome for the information] and from the trailers I've seen for it on television it seems to follow the same kind of pace that seems to have become standard in these kind of films. I'd guess Hevn is probably right in the description, although I won't know until I actually see the film.

Interesting, most interesting. Homer driving home in his car after work. "Simpson, Homer Simpson, he's the greatest in history. From the town of Springfield he's about to hit a chestnut tree." [Screams] Abe's words of wisdom. "Homer, you're dumb as a mule and twice as ugly" Stan Lee in Comic Book Guy's store. "Broke it, or made it better ?" Sideshow Bob on focusing. "Homer, if I could write haikus while skinheads beat me with soap, I can concentrate anywhere." Sideshow Bob on Homer. "Must...save...buffoon." That's all that I can think of at the moment.

I'm just over 6'1" and the tallest in my family by a good five inches, though that height is only average in my outer family as most of my male cousins are between 5'11 and 6'6". I'd maybe like to hit 6'2" or 6'3", though as it is it's getting to be a bit of a pain to get clothes that are long and broad enough.

I went to see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Saturday night with my family, I read the books a few months back and found them to be very funny, but the movie to me just seemed to lack that certain something to make it as funny. We were late getting into the cinema so I missed probably the first three or four minutes, but I really doubt that seeing the
dolphin sequence
would have changed my mind. Even though Adam's wrote part of the script before he passed aware, I still feel that it wasn't as good as the book version. Several things about they characters irked me a bit too,
what was with Zaphod's second head being under the first one ?
Alan Rickman was the perfect voice for Marvin and I really did enjoy his lines in the film, his overall look for the film was great. Stephen Fry as the voice of the Guide was quite good, his seemed to lend an air of genuine intelligence to it. Good film, not as good as the books in my opinion, but definitely worth a go.
