1.
I have heard many video game rumors and I want share them. 1. The Revolution: I read somewhere that the Nintendo Revolution will have a controller that is a great big touch screen. This would be interesting for Adventure games, bad for first person shooterss, and the best thing to happen to RPGs since Chrono Trigger. I could imagine a revolutionary menu system and a lot of cool new features. I just hope theres an analog or two on the side, for other games. A really interesting idea is that the controller could be like a GBA with a touch screen.
Well from what I've heard on the Revolution front, Nintendo is supposed to be using Wavebird technology for all it's controllers, which should be great as it'll get rid of annoying extra wires. I haven't heard anything else about it's controllers but adding a screen would almost definitely increase the overall mass of the unit and bring us back to N64 styled ones which I don't miss. Still it'd be a neat little function if it was true.
3. Xbox bomb: Rumor has it that the Xbox looses around 100,000 dollars a day on their console. Because of this the Xenon or Xbox 2 should cost around 700 dollars.
It pretty much common knowledge that Microsoft sold the XBox at far below the cost of making the actual unit. To cope with the losses on the original console, the Xbox 2 is going to cost a bit more to try and cover those losses, and the figure I remember being quotes was about $750, which really does put it out of the price range of most gamers. With that sort of money you'd be as well off to save further for a PC and get the whole nine yards, either that or buy one of the other Next Gen consoles and a few games.
  2.
well, theres lots of games I've love to see remade, but this question is basically for Gavin, you seem to be a big fan of Star Wars, and I really enjoyed the KOTOR series, do you know if or how many more installments there will be of this series? The game is pretty unique, and its fun. So if you havn't played it yet you should definitely check it out
I visit Obsidian's forums on a semi-regular basis to read about the different bugs that occur and just generally see how other people found the game. That said there's also quite a bit of buzz about sequels to KOTOR 2, which is supposed
to be set in the Unknown Regions, and pertaining to the True Sith Empire Kreia tells you about at the end of KOTOR 2. Your main characters are from what I've heard, Revan and the Exile, although Revan may be a recurring NPC, and is supposed to have a males voice this time, which implies that The Exile will once again be your main character. Whether or not you'll met up with characters from the previous two instalments is unknown, though the game series is supposed go to to at possibly six games if you believe the rumours.
More than that I'm afraid I don't know, but browsing the forums is a good way to try and keep up to date on what's happening, and admire how well run a board like OB is.
  3.
I do believe that whether Qui-Gon died or not, Anakin would still fall to the dark side. But that is just what I believe. I believe that he must turn to the Dark Side before he can fulfill the prophecy. The old ways of the Jedi were going out of whack, and the only way to change that is to completely irradicate it, or get as close as doing it. This way some old teachings survive, but it is ultimately left for Luke to decide how to train youngn's.*shrug*
I haven't read the spoiler so I can't comment on what's said in the book, but I do agree that with Qui-Gon or Obi-Wan, Anakin would have fallen. He was too old, he was too headstrong, full of emotion and most importantly, he fell pray to the whispers of Palpatine as a Padawan. As for Luke restoring the Jedi to their true origins, I would fight that theory with every fibre of my being, Luke's band of "Jedi" from the Expanded Universe are about as far away from the Jedi as you could get. I mean Luke has lost more students in 30 years than the Order lost in the previous 300, he trains people of any age to be Jedi [committing the mistake which destroyed the Order before], and when we first see him in Return of the Jedi [where ?] he looks like a bloody Sith. He also broke the bloody Cardinal Rule of the Jedi in getting married, and spawned a son, and he's not even the only one in his so called "Order" that's done that. I mean if any other Jedi from the Old Republic had survived past ROTJ other than Vergere, I think Luke might have been properly tutored a bit. I just will not accept that Luke is any closer to the true path of the Jedi than the Old Order. I mean in the films he only had a days training with Obi-Wan in Episode IV, and probably a few weeks training with Yoda in Episode V, there is no way by ROTJ he could claim to be a full Jedi. And his absolute worst insult to the Order was allowing non-Jedi on the Council, that is just unacceptable.
  4. The latest book, or books actually I've read would by Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, I personally found the first three book to be gems in terms of comedy [and I can see now where Dragon Warrior gets a lot of his humour]. But the fourth instalment So Long and Thanks for all the Fish was a bit of a disappointment for me, I just didn't find it as funny as the previous ones and the story was a bit ropey. Other than HHGttG, I bought the third book in Kevin J. Anderson's Saga of the Seven Suns, titled Horizon Storms, and found it to be a great little addition to the series that builds on a lot of what was begun in A Forest of Stars. I found the story in Horizon Storms to be might tighter than A Forest of Stars, it seemed to flow much more easily between the dozens of characters than before. The storyline also took on a lot of new intrigue in the fact that the Hansa have struck against an enemy far closer to home that the almost faceless 'Drogues. I really have to get down the library and see if I can get a few good Sci-Fi books.
  5.
But he wouldn't be called the Cookie Monster then. He'd be called... The Veggie and Fruit Monster! This is an outrage. Why, if Jim Henson was still around, he'd give them a good ole fashion Henson talk! What is this crazy talk. Are you even sure it's accurate. That's like saying Abe Lincoln was a chick. It just doesn't work.
I am equally outraged by this insult to Cookie Monster, whichever executive came up with this idea should be flogged and then forced to eat vegetables until he believes he'd some kind of herbivore. I mean that's like changing Ronald McDonald from a clown to an athlete in order to sell a new kind of burger, it's criminal and shouldn't be allowed.
  6.
I haven't played a lot of online games, but I do know that in a lot of cases you've got preteens, and even some older people, power tripping because they've been playing whatever game for a long amount of time. As far as people stealing your gold in Diablo, that's just low.
I've only played one or two games online at a cousin's house, but I have found that sometimes there are people who "power-trip" as Bio said because they've put in more hours at a game than you have. I don't play online games enough to say whether or not Online Morals are slipping, there's always be people who act like ***** in the world, whether that be real or virtual. That said it appears from what most people have said they're only a minority, and prone to playing only specific games. As for stealing stuff from people, that is just low.
  7.
Or just start saving up for the Revolution now, as it's supposed to be backwards compatible with GCN games. And speaking of 3D Pokémon games and the Revolution, I've always thought an MMORPG would be perfect for the Pokémon universe. With the Revolution's WiFi support, it could be done, and I'm betting tons of people would go for it. It would be a perfect extension of the GBA Wireless Adapter used with FireRed/LeafGreen, as well as Diamond/Pearl on the DS undoubtably using the DS's wireless capabilities. Ever since seeing the original Pokémon Stadium, I've dreamed of this becoming a reality.
That's great news that the Revolution will be backwards compatible, it'd be a shame to lose all the great games that Nintendo have released on the Gamecube, as happened with the Nintendo 64 [not counting them being re-release]. As for the idea of a Pokémon MMORPG, I think it'd be a great idea so long as you live somewhere where Pokémon is a popular game, round where I live there's very few people who play anything else other than GTA and even fewer who'd be willing to admit they play the games. I've always hoped that Nintendo might one day take Pokémon from the Gameboy and up onto the next level, as they've proven themselves well capable of doing in the past with such series as Metroid and Zelda. Mitch pretty much summed much of my thoughts on the prospects of this new 3D Pokémon game, the GBA series has been good but lacked originality. Heck in Sapphire and Ruby they even took out the Day and Night feature which I personally though was great. The series has been getting quite stale, I'd love to see a lot of new features being brought into the 3D game [hopefully games eventually] that could be ported to it's handheld cousins. The ability of customise your appearance for example would be a great feature to add some uniqueness to a player.
  8. Well I've always been a die-hard supported of Nintendo, back since the days of the NES and Gameboy which are pretty much the systems I grew up playing. I don't believe for a single second that Nintendo are going to go the same was as SEGA did, and the proof of that seems to be in the sales of the DS and GBA SP. Even though the Gamecube didn?t sell as well as the likes of the XBox and PS2 in Europe, Microsoft did as Zidargh pointed out, have to drop the price of the XBox significantly in order to try and compete with Nintendo and Sony. If I remember correctly they were even selling the XBox at below the unit cost price of producing them. I?d definitely agree that Halo was nothing special, and underneath some good graphics was a surprisingly average game, and much of the rest of it?s release-date games were nothing to write home about. I think the whole reason behind the Gamecube?s lack of success in Europe [though more specifically in Britain and Ireland] can be put down to the fact that Nintendo had a pretty poor games line-up when the Gamecube was released. There was no traditional Mario game, no Metroid [although they came in time] and really there were only a few games that really seemed interesting, now I may be wrong as I can?t remember exactly what was in that line-up beyond Luigi?s Mansion. As for the PS2, well the backwards compatibility of it meant that any PS1/One owners already had a library of games they could play, as well as that GTA 3 came out with it which meant any GTA fan, and many people who played it wanted to get it. Nintendo just got unlucky in the fact that it wasn?t marketed as well as the PS2 or Xbox were, hell I don?t even remember any ads for the Gamecube on TV when it was released. I personally wasn?t a huge fan of Mario Sunshine, and found it a bit of a disappointment when I played through it, having completed Mario 64, I just found that I didn?t like the game. Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker however was a game that I simply loved when it game out, and I though the cel-shaded graphics added a great sense of fantasy and distinction to an already brilliant game. I personally don?t think the Nintendo is in trouble, the XBox 2 will have to sell above r at it?s cost price to cover the losses on the original, which means if memory serves about $700 [that price was quoted in another thread]. The Revolution Desbreko has said will be backwards compatible, and will probably go on sale for a decent price, and as for the PS3, well I don?t really know the specifics on it yet so I can?t really say anything. All that said, Nintendo still rules the handheld world, the PSP might be Sony?s attempt to break Nintendo and the GBA?s grip on the market but as Tony?s quotes on the sales figures indicates that that might not happen. I still have faith that Nintendo will go on well after the Revolution and DS.
  9. I have to admit that I like this ending, it's quite a bit more comic than the previous one actually has a full ending, and people who know me know that I like stories to have proper endings [unless there are to be sequels]. The coin-tossing a Rock/Paper/Scissors reminds me of schoolyard competitions back when I was in primary school, although that could just be me being constantly nostalgic. Great alternate ending, now do another series of the Bikini Bandits and make us all happy.
  10. Seventh Circle of Dell [E] The tower stood majestically on the desk, complimented by it's monitor, keyboard and mouse. The whirr of ignition sent a tingle down his spine, money well spent, gaming Elysium was his to grasp. A shrill whistle came from the tower, followed by a splutter, and then death. He swore again that he?d never buy from Dell.
  11. I really enjoyed that Manic, the characters are all great but I have a soft spot for S.I.D. because he reminds me of Data from Star Trek. I definitely agree with Hevn, you'd think Superheroes would do something a little more out of the ordinary in their spare time, but they're all human I suppose, well except for Cyrus of course. The narrative is brilliant and you really do get a feel for the characters, and their little quirks. S.I.D.'s final line though has to be the best, you've just got to love Android humour.
  12. Walk Away Sweat ran down his forehead, his eye was swollen and his nose bloodied and broken. He panted harshly, drawing in breath in hard gulps, his opponent was on the ground, groaning and unable to stand. The knife lay on the pavement, kicked away, the fight was over, the feud maybe not. For now he'd just walk away...
  13.
I don't know if Anakin would have still fallen in love with Padme had it been Obi-Wan instead of Qui-Gon. But I still believe that things would turn out in favor of Sidious. If what Dooku said is true in ATOC, that Qui-Gon would have followed him, I believe that Anakin would follow Qui-Gon in turn. We can see throughout the movies and books that Anakin is being influenced by those around him greatly. With Qui-Gon being the father he never had rather than Obi-Wan, I believe he would lay his life down with Qui-Gon rather than the Jedi order. Then with Sidious of course leading Dooku, who would be leading Qui-Gon, who would be leading Anakin, I think everything would turn out the same in the end. It would be possible for Obi-Wan to follow as well. I believe his resistance to joining Dooku in AOTC was due completely to the fact that Qui-Gon was killed. Had Qui-Gon not been killed, and he would in fact follow Dooku, Obi-Wan would be hearing about the failings of the Republic from him, rather than being fed that the Republic is right from other masters and Palpatine.
I have to admit that I don't think Qui-Gon would have joined Dooku, his relationship with Anakin however would have probably been stronger than between Obi-Wan and Anakin. I mean Obi-Wan only trained Anakin because Qui-Gon requested it of him before he died, and because of that fact their bond wouldn't have been as strong. Perhaps Obi-wan resented being asked to train Anakin when he disagreed with Qui-Gon about him being trained as Jedi. Obi-wan agreed with the Council and was then forced to go against what he believed because Qui-Gon requested it. That said when we get to Episode II, Obi-Wan and Anakin seem to have developed a good relationship, even though Qui-Gon may have been like a father to Anakin, and Anakin says that about Obi-Wan, he seems more like a bigger brother than a parent. Now this is just my interpretation, but Anakin to me just doesn't respect Obi-Wan, he listens to him, albeit grudgingly but he doesn't seem to respect him. When Anakin talks to Palpatine you can see he prtty much reveres him, and that is what was lacking between Obi-Wan and Anakin. Whether he would have had that with Qui-Gon I don't know, but I feel that he probably would have listened to Qui-Gon more. As for Qui-Gon siding with Dooku, I feel that he said that only because he wanted to rattle Obi-Wan, I mean Qui-Gon was as true a Jedi as anyone else, although so was Dooku before he made the "I'll join the Sith and destroy them from the inside" blunder. Again since there's little knowledge of what Qui-Gon was like we can't really make any solid "Yes he would" or "No he wouldn't" statements, it's really just what your interpretation of the man was.
  14. This is great Annie, it's like a walk down memory lane from all our adventures together. I loved the originality of the Bikini Bandits, and to be able to browse through it chapter by chapter will be very handy little feature. I love what you have here Annie, and hopefully by the time you've finished we'll have a great little collection of stuff here to browse through.
  15.
I find that with fighting games, it's really a matter of your own personal opinion as to which you like best and least. I can agree with Virtua Fighter 4 being the most skill orientated fighter around, but that doesn't mean I like it. I'd prefer a fighter that I find to be fun personally, like Tekken. Of all the Tekken games I've played up to now, they've all been great fun and really enjoyable for me and the people I've played with, but around other fighting games, the experience is no where near as decent. So, I think that polling which fighter is best is a pretty lame way of going about it. It's just up to you, really.
Bombu pretty much summed up by thoughts, I have always found Tekken to be the most fun fighter I've played, and for me that's everything in a fighting game. There's no point in playing a game that has been rated as a great fighter if you don't enjoy it.
  16. I find myself agreeing with TigerVX, there's nothing wrong with loving someone if it's experienced by both involved, and if it is then it's one of the most wonderful feelings a human being can have. The only problem is that often young adolescents can the mistake of being infatuated with another person rather than being in love with them, one such incidence of infatuation involved some stalking by a shy young man I knew on a girl who just wasn't interested in him. Love itself isn't wrong, it's an emotion, what you do because of that emotion can be right or wrong.

    Women
The moment you start generalizing about any group (men, women or whatever) is the moment you should quit. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to this stuff...thinking of women as one giant group with no individual differences is the first big mistake.
Yep that's pretty much the Golden Rule when it comes to dealing with women or anyone really, they all have their individual likes and dislikes, just like men do. I think trying to understand the way another gender's mind works is like trying to understand your pet, men and women do different things for different reasons and trying to apply a male logic to women won't work. That said some common sense works wonderfully well when dealing with anyone, being an asshole with a girl doesn't work, being honest and nice I find does have a good effect. There's no guidebook to dealing with women, but dealing with other people [because a woman is a person just like a man] is simple enough.
  18. My heart felt condolences go out to you, your brother and Chad's family and friends over this tragic loss. Back in June last year, my family was preparing for a holiday in Turkey, the night that we were due to leave for the airport, actually just a few hours before we were to go we got a call that my granduncle Anton was taken into hospital with breathing problems. My mother and grandmother decided that they would go to Limerick that night to see him, I also wanted to go but my mother and grandmother wanted me to go with my dad and my brother and sister on holiday. Now Anton was a big man, in terms of weight, he probably weighed somewhere in the region of 27 stone, and had been suffered with his health for the last few years. Most of the time he was just given some medication and he was fine, but something about it didn't seem right to me. So we went to Turkey, and it wasn't until we were there a day or two that I found out that he had cancer or the lungs, which had spread to his brain. I can remember that the world seemed to go into slow motion when I heard that, I instantly wanted to go home to see him because the cancer was terminal. Anton himself was in an out of consciousness but he said that he wouldn't die until he had a chance to see us again. After two weeks of pain and misery we got back to Ireland and went to see him straight away, once we were back I found out that he had had cancer of the lungs for over a decade, if not two and had had brain cancer for a few years. Now I have been going to see my uncle Anton since I was born and it never occurred to me he had cancer, it came on so suddenly that it was like a bad dream. The doctors also told me that despite his size, it was his heart's strength which had kept him alive this long, the were very surprised he had even lived two weeks after he had been brought into hospital. I can't really recall much of what happened between getting home and when he died on July 2nd, I was at home when we'd got the call he'd passed away, in some sense I felt that it was a release for him. He'd have hated to have gone through months with the caner in hospital, and he was able to say goodbye to everyone he knew. I mean for all that to happen over the space of maybe 3 weeks was just unbelievable, he was at his house, as always and then suddenly he was gone. It was very hard on my family but he was a good man and we celebrated his life more than mourned his death. Again my heart-felt condolences.
  19. Ah so I get the first post of Page 100 and now I get the 1500th post, my loyalty in reviving this thread consistently is certainly paying off. I'm going to avoid seeing or reading anything more about Episode III, if at all possible I'd like to go into the film having only seen the trailers and being able to gape in awe at scenes and plot twists that I didn't know were going to occur. I mean if people are getting so hyped up about the film I really don't see how it makes sense to go off and read a book that would ruin part of the film on you. But hey that's just me talking, I've been waiting to see this film for 13 years and as the time grows closer I'm just itching for the 19th to come along so we can see Vader really show his stuff. Out of simple curiosity, do you think that if it had been Obi-Wan was killed by Maul and Qui-Gon had trained Anakin, would Anakin still have fallen in love with Padmé and gone on to the Dark Side ?
  20.
Um... That's what I said here : Endorsing personal vengeance was exactly what I was getting at with that part... ...and I was under the impression that I had stated my bias and skewed perspective on the matter with this part: and then I finish with yet another endorsement of personal vengeance. I had believed that I had made it rather clear that I was speaking from an extremely subjective standpoint. I was venting more than anything, actually. I had planned to let the rest of you hash the debate out as far as the pros and cons were concerned... I was simply sharing my twisted perspective (of the moment) for your viewing pleasure.:smirk: (See? I'm not rude-- I was thinking of all of you. )
Yes and I was making the point that if you were going to simply murder the person you believed was responsible for killing someone you cared about why wait to go through the whole process of a trial for that person ? Why not simply kill them before the trial so you can have your vengeance sooner, rather than waiting for the court to pronounce the Death Sentence on the individual ? The simple answer to that question is that courts make mistakes and innocent people get sentenced to death, and if you later found out that the person you had gleefully murdered was innocent I get the feeling you'd fell pretty bad about it. The plus side is you wouldn't live very long after because a member of that person's family would probably tear you a new one in a very brutal manner.

    The "L" Word
Sounds hilarious. I'd agree with Gav. It sounds a lot like any other real-life-esk TV show. I seem to remember a show like this about a couple guys that were gay. It was a comedy. I didn't like it.
Not if you know Channel Four the way most people do, anything that has to do with "Lesbian" usually has a lot of sex in it. Recently for instance they were showcasing shows called "Sex in the [Incert Decade here]", for a long time the Channel Four late night watershed has been a haven for adolescent boys with a single sock. Though lately they seem to have cleaned it up and put on quite a bit of stuff that might actually interest someone other that a guy without a girlfriend.
  22. I have to admit that my only experience with the Splinter Cell series game as a five minute go in a video game store about 2 years ago. However reading more about Chaos Theory, as well as having seen a very good trailer for it in the disks that come with a PC magazine I buy regularly, it does seem a game that would be interesting to give a try to. I'm quite a big fan of the Metal Gear series, and the gameplay does seem to resemble the Hitman series slightly, in the fact that stealth is your greatest ally. I might wait a few weeks and read a few reviews on it to see if it's a game that I'd enjoy but from what I've read here, it would seem that it might be.
  23.
I just didn't like most of the variations (although Pokemon Snap was kind of fun in an odd way). So seeing that world brought to life in 3D on GameCube should be really cool.
Actually now that you bring it up, Pokémon Snap would be a game that would work tremendously well on the DS, and it seems to fit in with the whole alternate style of gaming that the DS seems to represent. Snap for me was a very fun game and I enjoyed it hugely because it was so different, I had never played anything like it before and have never played anything like it since. I think it's success was down to the fact that it was a Pokémon game that didn't try to be an RPG, it just tried to be fun and did it exceptionally well.
  24.
Still I wonder if this includes the video games and Clone Wars microseries? I would say that it does because they are written to expand the universe.
Yes as you just said they'd all be part of the Expanded Universe and as such they would be considered canon, the only thing that might go against that is when certain parts of the EU contradicts one another, though this usually only happens between the games and novels. One such example would be the Jedi Knight series, Kyle Katarn himself is mentioned several times in the New Jedi Order series of novels, but many of his nemesis from the game are not even acknowledged. Now this doesn't really bother me but it just seems an example of one of the flaws of the Expanded Universe.
  25. I remember you telling me about that boyfriend, but to read what he typed on the computer is simply frightening. You made the right decision in breaking up with someone like that, I would hate to think what he'd have been capable of doing if he was angry at you. But my feelings about the man aside, that was a thoroughly fascinating account of what happened, I was tempted to reuse Destiny's use of the word hypnotic but it didn't seem to fit my own interest in it. I'll agree that after the first paragraph you are hooked to see what happens, and to know that it's not just a story does added a further chilling side to it. Excellent phrased, well paced, truly a piece of work to capture a person's attention and keep it on the events.
