1. Interesting, most interesting. Well I have yet to even read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, although it's on my To Read along with most of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. From what I've been told it's meant to be a great read, and the fact that they've separated out the books should mean that it doesn't feel run together. From what I have seen of THGttG it should be something to keep an eye out for in the cinema previews.
2. That sore ass joke for Dr Kane was totally uncalled for Gavynn, well since I pilfered your leg over AIM I guess it may have been called for but it was still pretty low. In saying that I'm still eagerly awaiting the unmasking of the Postless Banner although I still hold my theory about his true identity. I can only hope we won't have to wait all that long for the mystery to be solved and for each character to receive a happy ending.
3. The story continues, Van shall make his reappearance after that X-rated scene with Trini. Sign-ups Name: Gavin Ambrose, known mostly as "Doc" or "Van" Age: 54 Appearance: As seen here, although Van sports a neatly trimmed beard the same color as his hair Short Bio: Gavin Edward Ambrose was born on July 2nd 2047 in the Republic of Ireland, the same year as the ill-fated Lewis and Clarke mission. His father Malcolm Ambrose was a Doctor by profession and was overjoyed at the birth of a son, his mother Fiona Ambrose was a Biologist who worked in a military R&D facility. Van was to be first of two sons (His younger brother David was born on February 17th 2049) and from youth expressed a deep interest and almost connection with the life around him. Malcolm noticed his young son's affinity for life and thought quietly to himself that he'd made a good doctor. Years passed and it was apparent that Van possessed a very keen mind, he easily worked his way through school and topping his class in the Leaving Certificate. His passion for life hadn't diminished if anything it had grown stronger, and at 18 he chose to go on to follow in his father's footsteps in becoming a physician. He found his chosen profession to be at times almost blissful in terms of enjoyment, other people chose Medicine because it paid well later in life, Van chose it because he loved life itself. At the age of 23 he began going out with one of his co-workers by the name of Karen Price. Karen was everything Van had wanted in life, she was funny, caring, compassionate and possessed the same love for her job as Van did. The two were married a year and a half later on May 19th 2072 in what was to be one of the most memorable days in Van's life. After a few months Van decided to move back home to Clonmel City in Tipperary with his new wife and took over his dad's practice. Almost a year after that on August 17th 2073 Karen gave birth to Edward David Ambrose Van's first and what proved to be only son. As much as Van enjoyed his work in his father's practice he just felt that something was missing, something he couldn't put his finger on. Then one night about 10 years later Van came home to find police waiting at his front door, they told Van that there'd been and car crash and that he'd have to come down to the morgue to identify a pair of bodies who they believed were his wife and son. Van's soul seemed to shatter in that instant, every memory he had with them seemed to flood into his mind?s eye, the joy, the love and now the pain. Van knew that it was Karen and Edward even before they pulled off the sheet, his face went paler than death as he gazed upon lifeless bodies of his wife and son. Van seemed to turn to drink shortly after that, in the hope of making the pain go away, he would sit in his office with the blinds closed sipping away at some kind of alcoholic drink. In the end Van realised that he wouldn't drink away his sorrow and decided to leave Ireland for a few years to see the world, and hopefully get over what had happened. Van had seen horrors of the world, now he wished to see it's beauties, four years later in 2084 he returned to Ireland with a mind set on rebuilding his life. He decided to join the Army in the hope that it would help fill the remainder of the void that was still left in his soul, the first few weeks were the worst but eventually he was able to get over it and make new friends. Time progressed quickly for Van his already formidable skills in Medicine granted him early promotions in the Army, eventually reaching the rank of General at the age of 52. Two years later Van heard though "unofficial" channels about a mission to recover the recently reappeared Event Horizon, foregoing his Army title he volunteered under his medical credentials and was selected for the mission under the command of one Allen Chubbs. That was to be a mission that Van would never forget, for it was to change his life forever. Van set out on that mission as the Ship's doctor, a job which he believed would have him treating cases of space-sickness or possibly an injury caused by an over zealous engineer, he was wrong, very wrong. That was the mission from or very possibly to hell for the Bladerunner crew, which culminated in Van sacrificing himself by throwing himself and Weir in the gateway opened by Weirs engine aboard the Event Horizon. While there Van's body was genetically and physically altered by a force unknown and he was sent back through the portal before being rescued by Captain Chubbs. After his return the crew was forced to take down their fallen comrade Ruben Thorne and get back to Earth, Van was one of only four to have survived that accursed mission. They managed to escape the ship and after getting back to Earth Van settled into some well-deserved shore leave, although there was the oddity that he looked and physically read 20 years his junior. After a mere two weeks into his shore leave Van was called along with Sam, Trini and Allen to once again tempt their fate against the creatures released into our universe by Weir's engines. While travelling to Deimos Van was placed into a coma by an unknown entity, once the ship had arrived at Deimos Van awoke fully aware that there was a sinister force controlling the creatures down on the moon below. Before the ship crashed he engaged in a romantic affair with Trini, revealing feelings to her that he had felt for a long time. Van made it to the gravity couches just before the ship crashed although what happened in the aftermath is still fairly fuzzy. OK it's not really a short bio although it's really just a paste of my old biography with some new information at the end.
4. I actually learned an interesting little fact about Pixar films recently, seemingly John Ratzenberger (the guy who played Cliff in Cheers) has had a part in every Pixar film to date (I only recognise him as the Piggy Bank from Toy Story), he's supposed to be their lucky mascot or something along those lines. Just seemed interesting.
5.
Your friend's statement makes perfect sense. I like several girls, and can't choose between them....where is the difficulty in that statement?
I know the feeling, a few years back in school I couldn't decide between two girls for a date, there was nothing underhanded about my not being able to decide it was just too difficult to pick one. I think the most stupid thing I've ever heard somebody say about a relationship was when a cousin of mine was dumped by his girlfriend, she had been cheating and he caught her with the other guy. In the aftermath when I asked him how he felt his response was this "Never mind, if she was any worse in bed I've have slept with her sister more often".
6. MOM !! I'm trying to film my job application to Jackass.
7. Interesting, most interesting. Well since I haven't actually played the game yet, all I can do is read other people's posts jealously and wait until I buy the game for myself. I recently saw a clip for it in a DVD that came with the Nintendo Official Magazine UK, and I have to admit I was astounded, the graphics looks so neat and clear, and yet so colourful and fun. I only got a brief chance to play Paper Mario on the 64 but this really does look like something special, the whole RPG element is still relatively unexplored in the Mario franchise. Though I am aware there was a game before Paper Mario on the Super Nintendo, it's name eludes me at this point however.
8. Interesting, most interesting. As Solo pointed out Adam's theories were not based on true equations although certain parts of his theories may hold merit. I'm fairly sure Adam's has not fully explored our universe so completely that he could create such an equation, after all who's to say that Earth just doesn't belong to a particularly "rural" Solar System ? I also second Manic's comment.
9. Interesting, most interesting. Thanks for the link to this Alex, it really have been a fascinating read, even for those of us who have yet to play a single Metroid game. The story itself is well paced, keeping inline with the Metroid series, and the fear element you've introduced is quite tangible. As you pointed out to me that this is an alternate ending for Fusion I have to admit that I am sort of hooked wondering how the story is going to proceed, as well as this I'm wondering how I missed it in the first place.
10. Interesting, most interesting. Personally I'm not a fan of racist jokes, there's just something I find slightly wrong about making a joke based on the differences of another race just because they're different. There have been times yes that I have laughed at jokes that were mildly racist, however jokes or comments that are severely racist with no intended humour do tend to annoy me. In cases like that I actually feel sorry for the person, somebody who has to make fun of another's differences to get others to laugh must really be shallow.
11. Interesting, most interesting. Solo is indeed correct, a Trojan which finds it's way onto your computer may not activate instantly, instead it may lay dormant for a while before being activated by a specific command, thus as Solo pointed out comes the Trojan part. It was actually a Trojan activated by Window Media Player which brought down my PC a couple of month back, which has made me extra vigilant about knowing what programs are running.
12. Thank God for this, I was having massive trouble with the HTML code for my post in Rebel Scum, that was until Alex kindly told me that there weren't supposed to be any spaces between the code. The new code should help those of us who are still learning how to use HTML to perhaps mess around a little with HTML experiments of out our outside Rebel Scum.
13. Well the news of a new and improved ranking system sounds good to, though since I'm still languishing about at 558 or so it'll be a while before I get the chance to see my name on the top 500. Still we can't all have the popularity of James or Solo, actually interesting side note, if you run a search for OB over the net one of the possible sites of Solo's MyO.
14. Interesting, most interesting. I have to admit that I don't normally listen to the lyrics of a song, instead I prefer to just appreciate the music though there are certain occasions when the lyrics tend to jump out at you. Strangely enough the most memorable lyrics I?ve heard belong to a Michael Jackson song, yes I happen to be a fan of Jackson?s music though what is does in his spare time is absolutely none of my business. The song is called Human Nature, and is No. 6 on the CD of his Number Ones Album, there?s just sometime both beautiful and relaxing about the lyrics to the song. I don?t have a copy of the lyrics themselves but if anyone has the chance to listen to the song then I?d advise them to, listen to the lyrics he wrote back then, not what he does now. ?If they say why, tell ?em that it?s human nature?
15. Interesting, most interesting. Well I assume Traffic were hoping to create this sort of controversy in announcing the creation, after all there's no such thing as bad publicity. As I'm not an American I can't really look at it from the point of "a famed leader of our country" being killed, if the same game were to be produced about Michael Collins then the vast majority of Irish people would be up in arms over it. While I don't go so far as to say it's despicable, I do think it's inappropriate as the game is based on the death of a particular man. However in saying that TigerVX and James also raise good points about it being condemned because it is specific, would a game that allows you to assassinate Hitler be considered evil, probably not. Now I'm not making a comparison between JFK and Hitler I'm merely suggesting that if a less liked historical figure was picked there would be less outrage over it. I think the competition awarding the most accurate marksman is going a little too far, to award someone for being able to recreate the exact shots that killed a man isn't something I'd be impressed by, though seemingly they were near impossible shots that killed him. Tasteless would probably be the best word in this situation, at least that's how I feel about it.
16. Interesting, most interesting. I've been interested in Metroid Prime II: Echoes since I first read about it in Nintendo Official Magazine UK a while back, I have to admit I've still not played the first Metroid Prime, or any Metroid game for that matter but this really does seem to have piqued my interest. NOM-UK actually gave away a DVD with this month's issue with clips of all the big Nintendo games due out this Christmas, and as a special bonus they had a big section on Echoes. I personally find that watching actual clips of the game gives me a far better impression of what the game is like compared to a load of pictures which could merely be high-res. concept art. The game looks very fluid and the action seems to come thick and fast, all of which combine to make a great First Person Shooter. The whole Light and Dark idea on Aether brings a kind of Soul Reaver element to it which sounds very interesting, I must admit actually sitting here and typing about it makes me want to go out and buy it.
17. I had meant to post sooner, but better late than suppose. -------------------- Kane had been watching quietly from the sidelines, as the reigning European Champion he sometimes had to put up with people looking for autographs and the like but luckily for here there were guys here far more famous than he was. He was quite familiar with Beth having faced her in both the UK and Ireland Championships and the European Championship itself, Kai he had come across a few times, he regularly attended European Competitions though Kane had never had the pleasure of facing him. They had often spoken about different matches, or bladers who showed potential, the since they were both rather quiet in nature the work conversation mightn?t be the most accurate word, his own Death Gargoyle was nowhere near as strong as Dranzer. He knew he had a match coming up fairly soon, seemingly his opponent was one of the runners-up in the North American Championship, probably be a good match if Kane didn?t beat the crap out of his opponent?s blade in the first ten seconds. Gripping his blade in his left hand he moved over towards where Kai was standing, Kai was someone Kane respected but not admired, after all Kai was only as good as his blade and training had made him. He nodded before leaning against the wall near Kai, he was tempted to ask him what he thought of the match so far however he got the feeling that Kai wasn?t in the mood to talk, Beth was doing well, she always did well and Kane had enjoyed every encounter with her. Kane watched non-plussed as Beth delivered the final blow to her opponents blade, Worlborg was actually a pretty similar blade to Death Gargoyle, he noted that her skills had improved since the European Finals where he?d beaten her last, it was a close match though Kane had won well. His match was next, Beth smiled at him before he moved off from the wall and made his way towards the Dish, his opponent was a young man with long black hair and a stupid looking grin on his face, army boots and a set of urban camos told him that he was definitely going to enjoy this match. Announcer: [Over-enthusiastically] AND IN OUR NEXT MATCH WE HAVE REIGNING EUROPEAN CHAMPION MALCOLM KANE FACING AMERICAN PRO-BLADER WARREN GRANT, THIS SHOULD BE ONE TO KEEP YOUR EYES ON FOLKS. Kane: A Pro-Blader eh ? Should be an interesting match. Warren: Yeah right, you may be the ?European Champion? but since when has European produced anyone good at BeyBlading. Kane: It?s Europe moron, not European and besides I could take you down with only a half-powered blade. Now let your moves do your talking or I?m going to send your blade him in so many boxes it?ll have FedEx screwed up for weeks. Announcer: FOLKS THESE TWO ARE REALLY BUTTING HORNS,. 3... 2... 1... LET IT RIP !!! Kane launched Death Gargoyle in the dead middle of the Dish, it not only allowed him to move to any edge of the dish with ease but it also gave him a good defence. His opponent was using a Grip Attacker which had a fairly high attack, especially when it came to first rounds attacks, his best option was to try and draw out the match for a bit before going for the kill. Warren: Grip Attacker, Full Frontal Attack, NOW !! Kane: Death Gargoyle, dodge to the right side of the dish and counter. Kane?s calm nature seemed to upset his opponent, his glare was fixed solely on Kane and not on the dish as it should have been, this slip in his concentration was to cost him. Kane?s blade dodged to the right of Warren?s merely milliseconds before the two were about the meet, swerved along the right side of the dish it came round at a high speed and knocked hard into the Grip Attacker flipping it up into the air. Warren scowled before returning his attention to the match, Kane?s blade had already shot up into the air and was slamming viciously into the Grip Attacker, Kane knew if he could keep it up the Grip Attacker would eventually shatter from the continual hits. Warren: Grip Attacker attack his Death Gargoyle NOW !! Kane: Death Gargoyle tilt to upper attack mode and counter. Warren?s blade slammed into Kane?s sent it hurtling back down into the dish, Kane had already expected that and was merely moving one step ahead of Warren, as soon as his blade touched the side of the dish it spun itself furiously and returned an attack at Grip Attacker, sending it charging over to the other side of the stadium. Announcer: WOW THIS MATCH HAS REALLY HEATED UP, THOUGH KANE AS PER USUAL IS KEEPING HIS ICE COLD MOOD VERY APPARENT, WARREN ON THE OTHERHAND IS GOING ALL OUT WITH HIS GRIP ATTACKER, WILL HE SUCCEED ? Kane: Death Gargoyle, finish him off !! Kane?s Death Gargoyle struck across the dish and slammed full force into his opponent, sending it flying out of the ring, the blade began to break up once it left the dish, almost like a trail of dust. Warren?s fiery appearance seem to disappear as his blade ended up on the floor in about a hundred pieces, he turned to Kane again angry. Warren: How the hell did you do that !! Kane: Simple, I beat you. Kane moved back to standing beside Beth and Kai, Beth gave him a hug and he got the traditional steely emotionless nod from Kai.
18. Bah my first post was crap, though I must admit I was a little short on creativity when I wrote it. -------------------- Kane merely nodded a Vera?s comment, racket and ball in hand he bounced it once or twice off the ground before making a proper serve, his games with Allen always went the same way, he?d start off, Allen would take an early lead and that would be the game. Kane wasn?t nearly as proficient at tennis as he was a golf, now there was a spot he could whip Allen at, often they?d rotate games to avoid the monotony of playing the same game twice in a row. Allen?s powerful swing had sent the ball back to Kane?s far right, dashing he managed to clip it hard and sent it back over Allen?s side of the court, about 10 feet in front of him. Caught slightly off, Allen could only manage to volley it back to Malcolm who proceeded to sent it to his far left and beyond his reach, he could hear Allen chuckle as well as see a mused smile from Vera. Allen: You?ve been practising. Kane: Probably just a lucky shot, after all if I get better at this the likelihood is you?ll get better at golf. Vera: That and you might actually get a nice outfit. Kane scowled at the thought, he had already realised a long time ago that the outfit was meant to be a joke but he had kept wearing it out of spite, after all Allen was one of the few agents with whom he socialised. It was Allen?s serve now, his big advantage, he had an unmercifully powerful strike and a good shot could level them, Allen?s posture as well as body language sometimes betrayed his movements, though Kane still had to be quick to send the ball back. Kane watched as the ball rose into the air, the racket wasn?t far behind and with a resounding clout Allen sent it hurtling over to Malcolm side of the court, ?Too fast? he thought before the ball struck the ground and went out of the court. Kane went to retrieve the ball for his serve, the scores were equal now, perhaps that first score had been just a fluke, but he wouldn?t mind trying his luck again in the match. Kane: We really need to start playing a few other games, except for our golf games, poker night and the odd game of pool, this is all we ever do. Any ideas ? Allen: What?s wrong with poker night, that?s probably the best night we have during a week, considering it?s not just you me and a set of balls. Honestly though I can?t really think of anything, hell when was the last time you or I went on a date. Vera: Well that would be hard seeing as you?re not supposed to date non-Temporals. Allen: Never stopped Malcolm, at least never used to stop Malcolm. Kane: Well at least one of MY girlfriends wasn?t erased from time, though she was really only a bi-product of what happened. Vera: Well I see you two have some issue, would you two like some time alone ? Allen laughed, moving into a defensive position waiting for Malcolm?s next shot, everything about this was being able to move at the right time, too early and you missed, too late and you missed. Kane?s strike wasn?t as powerful as Allen?s but there was something about the was he served that seemed to be able to make the shot curve, Allen was ready though and intercepted the shot sending it right back. Kane who had been standing in the middle of the court moved to return shot and sent it back with a bang. Allen noted that Kane had been playing better, usually it was just a case of Allen would serve and/or deflect for a victory, now it seemed to be a more even match. After a number of serves back and forth Allen managed to get in another good shot and sent the ball passed Kane, smiling Malcolm picked up the ball before preparing to serve again.
19. Interesting, most interesting. Personally I?m not going to get many games, most of the cash I?ve saved up is gone towards the new HP Pavilion we?re getting in the next few weeks. If I do manage to pick up another job between now and Christmas I suppose the list would look something like this. Gamecube - Metroid Prime II (Haven?t played the first but this looks simple divine) - Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within (Loved the first, this is going to rock) - Paper Mario 2 (A maybe, I?ve already got two RPGs I need to beat first) - Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (Might pick it up over the net if it?s cheap) - MGS: The Twin Snakes (Again I?ll pick it up if it?s cheap) - Viewtiful Joe 2 (Still haven?t beaten the first but this will be excellent) - Tales of Symphonia (Looks simply beautiful, and is supposed to kick ***) Really a mix of action, strategy and role-playing. Gameboy: - Pokémon: Leaf Green/Fire Red (Owned the originals and loved them, this has better be good) - Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (I enjoy any Zelda outing, this seems good) - Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (The shame I sold this a while back, I?ll probably get it again due to it?s excellent nature) Not a massive Gameboy addict, I enjoy the odd outing but my main play machine is the Gamecube as will be my PC when the new one arrives. So practically all those on the list there are maybes. PC - Knights of the Old Republic: The Sith Lords (Have had the first for about 2 months but PC is too crap to play it, this will be brilliant) - Jedi Knight III: Jedi Academy (Loved Outcast, graphics are a bit dated but this will kick ***) - Civilization III: Gold Edition (Or whatever it?s called, played unexpanded III and loved it) - Rise of Nations (Played the demo, relished it, probably will get this) - Anno 1503 (Owned 1602, thought it was great, have meant to buy this doe ages) - Monkey Island 1&2 (Played 3 and 4 but never got a chance to play these, unfortunately they?re near impossible to find) - Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (One of the best gaming experiences EVER, again like MI 1&2 near impossible to find) More strategy, role-playing and action but these are some really kick *** games.
20. [Grabs sides] Excellent Gavynn, truly excellent, the line where James gets mad at Zidargh had me in stitches laughing. I'm really looking forward to the penultimate two chapters where the Postless Banner shall be revealed and lynched by and angry mob for what he/she has done.
21. Hmm what will the meter maid say about this ? Just came into my head as I was typing.
22. Kane had been sitting behind his desk for the better part of an hour sorting through mission briefs detailing different possibly alterations to the timeline, some were so subtle he didn't even realise they had occurred. The holograph of his family still sat at the edge of his workspace, it was all he had left of them, at least his family as he knew them. Since then he had pretty much immersed himself in his work, trying harder and harder to bring those who would violate time to justice, to "un-knot the string". Kane was pretty much a veteran at this stage and one of the most recognisable Time-Cops in the business, still he would have traded it all back for one chance to see his real family again. Allen: [Calmly] You OK Malcolm ? Kane: [Distracted] Huh ? Oh sorry Allen I didn't see you there. I've just been going through some recent files, we seem to never have enough time to solve them all. Allen: [Chuckles] If we did then life would be much simpler. Kane and Allen had on occasion worked together, although Kane preferred to work alone Allen was one of the few operatives he felt he could trust completely. Pushing back the datapad he got up from the seat, there really wasn't enough time to solve it all. He scratched his chin before sighing and picking up his coat. Obviously they were headed up to the surface, otherwise Allen wanted a game of tennis, neither option really appealed to him though he found the odd game of tennis to be relaxing... Kane: So what do the psychics reckon has been changed this time, Hitler, Stalin... Rodahl's mother-in-law ? Corey laughed at the last comment before the two set off towards the elevator.
23. Eh just one final question Bill, are we ever going to start this ? I mean I know you said you've got a lot on your plate but we've not had a really good, well thought out Zoids RPG in ages and I was rather looking forward to it. That and your King Baron wouldn?t stand a snowball's chance in hell of beating my Gun Blaster... ;)
24. Interesting, most interesting Personally I'm looking forward to just money, I know that seems a bit shallow at Christmas and more than likely I'll get gifts which is always nice but I'm trying to save up for university and every penny counts. If someone was to twist my arm I suppose what I really want would be a few new Gamecube games, that or a few on the PC, my shelves are strangely absent of them lately. Weirdest Christmas present I've ever got was a pair of heart embroidered boxers from an aunt of mine, I suppose it was supposed to be a joke but I've never felt right around her ever since... O_o. Actually last year I got a present of The Greatest Christmas songs ever, it was actually meant for an uncle of mine but my brother still says the look on my face was the funniest thing he'd ever seen.
25. Heh heh, even if I do lose the use of my eyes any time I look at Syk3 it's still worth reading this, I got a few queer looks in the Net Café from laughing so hard when I read this. The graveyard was good, Final_Flash is an idol who will be missed for ages to come, the Star Wars comment was well below the belt Gav [Wags index finger]. Still the best and most funny thread I've read in months, resistance is futile, as is resistance to Gavin and Gavynn's sexiness.
