I don't get it. That's me being just honest but I don't exactly see what's funny about it, however since it's based on some shape or form on something funny that happened I guess there is something funny about it I might not be seeing. The story though is quite interesting, the writing is quite detailed and well paced and if it wasn't supposed to be funny then I'd consider it a work of perhaps serious fantasy. Perhaps someone might point out to me what the funny bit is...

I'm betting Shin's Mod Rod it's closed by Monday (GMT) morning.
I'd give it 'til Sunday. In fact, I can't believe this thread's still around right now.
What I meant by Monday morning Godel was like 00:00 on 24 hour time, like just after 23:59 on Sunday night, I didn't mean Monday morning like say 07:00 or something like that. Damn that was harder to describe than I thought.
It may well have been a trend back then. I wasn't here, you couldn't tell. I forgive you. lol.
Well when Name Changing was first introduced I think it was more so to do with the fact that when a lot of people had joined they'd picked some kind of a silly anime/videogame/what-have-you based username which after a while didn't really fit any more. In my own opinion it had to do with people trying to pick a name that suited who they were on Otakuboards rather than reflected the IRL interests, at least that's what I think.

I've given replies in at least a half dozen of these debates and to be honest my position on the idea is probably not going to ever change. I personally am against gay marriage because it goes against my religious beliefs, egg me if you will but I am just going by the laws laid down by the Roman Catholic Church. To be honest I wouldn't mind if they were given Civil Unions and the rights of a married couple but something just irks me about the use of the word marriage used in a non-religious ceremony. So as those of you who've been in the many other versions of these topics we've had, can see I've mellowed out slightly from my previous views.
First off. Does no one remember this wonderful thing about how religion and politics would be separated. Everyone always says "The United States was founded on heterosexual marriages," of course that?s not true. Anyone who actively studies history would know that the United States was founded on freedom; freedom of speech; freedom of religion; and freedom of assembly. The United States always has said the rights of their citizens are SOOOO important, yet when two people just want to be recognize as the government in a "civil union" its not allowed because Christianity doesn't allow it?[/i']
This is just a little something that has been niggling away at me for a long time when we have these kinds of discussions, the constant bringing up of the situation in America. Let me just point out one subtle thing, this is Otakuboards, not the United States of Otaku, not the Otakuboards of America, there are people from other countries involved in these discussions and as such it doesn't relate entirely to America, James is Australian, I'm Irish and a load of other people here are from other countries. It just annoys me sometimes that all these discussions seem to just stagnate around America, it's history it's politics. I don't mean that in an offensive way or anything but it's just something I've wanted to point out for a long time.
PS. Does anyone want to start taking bets on how long this thread will last? ~Dagger~
I'm betting Shin's Mod Rod it's closed by Monday (GMT) morning.
That'd be cool. Anyway, I'm looking forward to 7.1 as it is, so no worries there ;)
Damn right I'd say 7.1 is going to satisfy even the most user-friendly-feature insatiable member out there, though since we've yet to see it I'm only basing that assumption off the quality of the work we've already seen in different upgrades and versions.

Any chance this is still open ? Nice to see you again Deedlit, and you too Deathknight, it's been a while. Character Name: Kane Status: Oldie Otaku. Boards Location: Outer edges of the Adventure Square. Team: None, this is due to the fact Kane believes he should have been made a Mod a long time ago. Appearance: Attachment. Weapons: That big blaster rifle in the picture, though you could also count the fact that he's a giant transforming robot who could do some fairly nice damage by himself without any weapons.

Interesting, most interesting. Well as James has practically given every possible piece of evidence with little or no bias on either side I think all that's left is to make a decision based on person views. In my own personal views Mario will always be the better of the two characters, this has to do with the fact that I've always been a hardcore Nintendo fan and Sonic was always the enemy mascot of the Sega pretenders trying to take Nintendo's crown. I know that's slightly childish but I've held those views for as long as I've been able to hold a pad and I don't think anything will ever change that. If I was to take them both from simple gameplay experience then Mario would still win out, I wouldn't be the biggest fan of platformers but I never actually enjoyed playing Sonic on the same level as playing any of the Mario Bros. games. I just remember that playing the Sonic games on the Megadrive would always leave bored after about 5 minutes where as I could play Super Marion Bros. III for an indefinite amount of time without losing interest. In the end I think it's just a case of personal taste.
So Mario is really Sonic's father, if you see what I mean.
Mario: [Laboured breathing] Sonic, I am your father. Sonic Nooo !!!!! Sorry I just couldn't resist.

Interesting, most interesting. Well what I've read so far makes me at least inclined to give Budokai 3 a rent when it comes out or at least give Budokai 2 a rent at the moment to see if it's as insanely fun as Neil says it is. The graphics actually look pretty nice and the added bonus of being able to use the environment to do damage (a lá Tekken 4) sounds like a nice new feature. Though in saying that I played Legends for the PSOne which did have an English release and found it to be mediocre at best so hopefully this will give me a taste of what a good Dragonball Z videogame can be.
For some reason, I have the idea that Newbie Lounge didn't actually count towards your post-count.
Hmm well since I only visited the Newbie Forum once or twice and I never posted there I'm not sure if it did count to your overall post count or not but since it was part of OB at the time I would assume it would count.

Interesting, most interesting. Sounds like an interesting idea for a little tweak although I don't really see how it would be any more convenient that the way to forums are at the moment. You always have the option of collapsing the forums you don't want to view to make it slightly more user-friendly but then again I suppose it might be nice to be able to align them as you liked. Interesting, most interesting. Dear God this conversation is making me feel old, although there are still some people who joined before that are still around on a regular basis. I actually didn?t like OB the first time I saw it, yes the shame, the shame but at the time I was only going to TheOtaku.com to read the Dragonball Z section, though nowadays I hardly ever go back there. I?m fairly sure it was Version 2 that I first saw although I can?t be sure (which ever one was around in May/June 2001), actually it would have to have been Version 2 because when Version 1 closed all the users had to sign up again and Version 3 looked very different if memory serves. Anyway all that aside when Theotaku closed down for revamping in August/September 2001 I decided to join Otakuboards seeing as I was bored and there was little else to do, strange how that one decision has changed my life. I joined up under the name MajinGogeta (at least I think it was MajinGogeta) and headed straight for the one forum I would stay almost entirely in for the next few years, the Adventure Arena or whatever is was called back then, curse my feeble memory. Though I have to admit that when I looked back at the first link Lady A posted I could only recognise a few of the forums and Games and Stories seemed completely foreign even though I?d have been on OB 9 months at that stage. Anyway I joined as MG and my post quality was abysmal, actually as James pointed out it was only a bit worse than most of the quality throughout OB at that stage, though to be honest I often look back at the Good Ol? Days with a pain of rose tinted glasses. I actually stopped using that particular user profile after about 20 posts and signed up under the name Shadowed Demise and basically I held that name for a while and improved my RPG skills until December when I joined up under my current profile with the username of Red XIII [Notes other oldies going ?Oh yeah now I remember him?]. It was under this name that I first joined up as part of the three-man team of Dragonball RPers consisting of Yoda (then SS Trunks), MajinVegeta (still MV) and myself, actually it took a bit of time before Yoda actually thought I had the skills to RP with him though that seems so long ago. And so there I stayed RPing with the likes of Raiha (now my wife), Boba Fett (whom I rarely see any more), Noodle Z (Ryan now, if I remember correctly), Chaos (was still SuperSayain), Warlock (whom I still idolise though rarely speak to), Bond Fanatic, DeathKnight Outlaw and a load more who?s names I have either forgotten or they are no longer around. Still though I get the feeling that if all of us went back to Version 3 as ourselves at this moment we might just have some fun. After about a year and a half as Red XIII, at least I think it was a year and a half I took the opportunity to change my name to Outcast, probably the name I?m most known under, I still stayed in the Arena although I did stir out from time to time to post in either the videogame forums or some of the anime forums. It continued that way for a long time and actually stayed pretty much that way until I no longer posted as much in the Arena and now am more active in Music, Movies and TV as well as Otaku Lounge. I stayed as Outcast for about 12 months before I changed it again to Lynx before I again changed it to my current username of Kane, and so that is pretty much my history here on OB plagued by my bad memory and my newbieness which it took a long time to grow out of, although I?m pretty happy with the end result. To all of those who are still around who knew me in my early days I?d love to speak with any of them and to those who know me know they can at least see that I was as newbish as anyone else when they first joined.
Because there are some rocking newer members around here that can really give the old fogeys a run for their money when it comes to post quality and depth, lol. :p
You?re calling your old man a fogey are you son ? Well that?s you grounded for two weeks, no Star Wars: Rebel Scum for you. Anyway Oldies will always rule, if we didn?t have people like James then OB would never have existed.

I'm going to totally agree with Manic on this one, I personally thought their music was a load of garbage and the only reason they became famous was because of their "supposed" lesbian relationship. If I remember correctly the year they entered the Eurovision Song Contest they said that they were going to perform naked and if they won they were going to get married in Germany, neither happened and if memory serves it was later found out they weren't even gay. As I said before they were a duo build on controversy and not talent.

I agree with TigerVX here, I'll more than likely not realise it's the end of the world and I'll be caught off guard doing something totally pointless that I do everyday, like watching The Simpsons. If I did hear about the Apocalypse before it happened I'd more than likely hold up my local videogame retailer and enjoy some virtual happiness until the big adios.

Interesting, most I had actually noticed that for a while but I just thought that most of those guys were just regularly visited but a large group of people like them on a daily basis. To be honest I would have no idea of how to solve such a problem though at least Solo has shone some light as to how some of these people are getting such high ratings. I doesn't really bother me as MyOtaku is meant to be just an online journal for your own purposes but then again since I get very few visits I guess that may be part of it.

Heh Drix you've still got it. Personally I don't think there is really any right time to have sex for the first time, then again since I haven't yet had sex nor have any desire to do so. I think that when you and your respective girlfriend/boyfriend feel that you are ready then you have the option of taking that step. I'd prefer to wait to share something as intimate as sex until after marriage or with someone I eventually intended to marry but then again that's just me.

Well I've never actually killed an animal, whether it be on purpose or by accident, so I don't really know what the psychological effect would be on a person. Any time I go driving with my father, or at least quite a large portion of the time I go diving with him there always seems to be a near hitting of an animal whether it be domestic or wild. I have to admit that I would never like the idea of killing an animal as it would probably make me sick.

Interesting, most interesting. Excellent, truly enjoyable, I really enjoyed the article based on Flash since it's been years since I've seen any work from him, though Warlock will always be the memorable in my books. The whole conspiracy around the deletion of the Newbie Lounge was very gripping, to the point where I interrogated James about it for almost 2 minutes, again he denied everything. [Looks forward to the next edition.]

Interesting, most interesting. I actually had a similar experience the first time I watched Star Trek: First Contact in recent months, I had just begun to get my Star Trek movie collection together and it had been years since I'd watched the film itself. Now I know many of you wouldn't say that First Contact would be all that scary but when I was like 11-12 I used to have this insane fear of The Borg, yes that is sad. Then a few months ago I put it on and had that same warm and fuzzy feeling of nostalgia even though I had been terrified to watch the films when I was younger.

Interesting, most interesting. I haven't gone trick-or-treating in years, mainly because at nearly eighteen it just seems a little sad. I actually went to a Holloween party last year, something I rarely do because I usually just rent a few movies and stay in with friends, yes I suppose that could be considered a party of some form but I wouldn't really call it one. Anyway last year I decided to go to the party dressed up as a member of the I.R.A as a bit of a laugh, I had the combats, the balaclava and I actually looked the part. It was a bit of a laugh as about 6 different people had come in very similar costumes so we ended up looking a little strange, still it was good fun.

Yes if I remember correctly the Newbie Forum was just a basic spamming fest for those who wanted to up their posts without actually having to put any effort into what they wrote. It was actually a bit of a shame the forum didn't work out as it would have been nice to give newbies a chance to introduce themselves a bit more easily.

Van was actually more tired than he thought he was, ?No rest for the weary? he thought before laying back into his bunk, this would hopefully be the last time he?d have to go through this. He wondered exactly what he?d do once he got back to Earth, that is if he got back, something told him that Deimos was going to be his resting place, but Van had faith in himself and his friends... He had thought about going back into R&D for the Army but there was an underlying desire to just retire and get some enjoyment into his life after so many years of pain. He tucked his arms in behind his head before attempting to doze off, the rooms seemed a bit bare but for the mission wasn?t a pleasure cruise by any stretch of the word. After about ten minutes of lying alone on his bunk he decided to maybe do a bit of stargazing to settle his mind, though Deimos wasn?t exactly the best place to stargaze. The floor was actually a lot colder than Van thought, a shiver ran up his spine as he crossed barefoot to the window, his reflection was visible, the same fair hair and beard he?d come to recognise every morning as he brushed his teeth. He ran one hand down the reflection and the other across his face, ?A picture?s worth a thousand words, if they knew what happened to me this picture would be worth a few billion?. Van remembered how scientists had always been fascinated by the myth of the Fountain of Youth, it would seem Van had found it in some shape or form. The starts around Deimos seemed brighter, perhaps in contrast to the grim reality that was the moon. It seemed much closer than Van had though, he may only get a nap before being thrust into the arena. The door of his room slid open slowly, a greyish looking spectre hovered semi-ominously before coming through slowly, Van wasn?t impressed by his doppelganger?s new ploy and merely brushed one hand thought it. A kind of cackle echoed around the room, as though the spectre was happy at Van?s lack of fear, the same voice echoed out as before though the mood was more cheery. Voice: [Laughing] Aww not in the mood to play eh brother ? Van: [Non-plussed] Not really, besides you?re parlour tricks are getting a bit sad. Voice: Heh heh well then I guess we?ll get right down to business or don?t you want to talk to me ? Van: If I don?t have to I?d rather save our encounter for a face to face meeting, that way I can put a bullet between your eyes. Voice: [Tutts loudly] Well I see you?re in no mood to play nice, besides when we meet you?ll more than likely be begging me to spare the life of your simple cohorts. Van walked back across the room and lay back onto his bed Van: You?re really just an annoyance now you know. Voice [Offended] Fine, you don?t want to be civil then I?ll take my leave of you. Van watched the spectral form float out the window before Van moved to take a long hot shower, it?d be a long day and he was in no mood to get caught with his trousers down.

Interesting, most interesting. I think ChibiHorsewoman has made some pretty valid points but one major one overlooked is the simple concept of common sense. I think that realistically we know that more often than not that violence is not the answer to a situation, and I'd agree with Cyriel's statement about violent videogames. Yes there are times when I think about caving in the skull of someone I don't get on with but simple common sense dictates that if I do cave in his skull then more than likely I'm going to have to deal with the serious repercussions of that decision. Honestly I think it all just boils down to common sense.

Most painful ([physically painful) experiance ever
Gavin replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Interesting, most interesting. Well I can say that I have experienced my fair share of pain, although it doesn't happen very often when it does it's usually something less-than-pleasant. I can actually only recall two or three incidents that are really worth mentioning, weird part is that I have never broken a bone in all my years of playing contact sports. Anyway onto the pain. 1] Getting it in the testicles by a sliotar: OK I'm guessing that about nine-tenths of people thought that I just make a spelling mistake there but a sliotar is actually the ball used in the Irish sport of Hurling. The ball itself is probably a bit bigger than a baseball, not much bigger but it's just as hard, for any of you who actually have seen or played a game of Hurling then you'll already have an idea of what that pain might feel like. What happened basically was that I was playing as a back in just a normal game between myself an a few friends a couple of months back when one of the guys took a shot at goal and my testicles got in the way. Now a lot of you may think that wouldn't hurt all the much, in the general scale of pain, but I would compare the strike of a sliotar off a hurley to be comparable to that of a baseball off a bat at full speed. [Acknowledges the fact that almost every guys legs just closed in] The next bit of what happened is a bit fuzzy, as anyone could imagine, I basically felt as though all the wind had been knocked from my body, next I remember starting to shake and after about two minutes throwing up. I remember that someone wanted to ring the hospital for an ambulance but it was decided against and I was just brought back into the house and let rest and breathe it off. I can't actually remember how long it took the pain to subside or how long I was actually out for but for about the next week I still had trouble walking. 2] Pining two disks on a nerve: Most of my friends already know the story behind this one as it was the accident that forced me to leave school last year. I'd been playing on goal for a game of football (soccer), it was pretty near the end of the game and from about three meters out I took a very hard shot to the left side of my head, near my temple. My neck was pushed very hard to the left before being snapped back to the right (typical whiplash injury), at first I was just a little dazed and no worse for wear. However within a few days of the injury I started developing really bad migraines, now I'm pretty used to headaches as I get them quite often but the magnitude of this migraine was something I hadn't felt in a long time. Over the next two and a half months I was pretty much tormented by these headaches with no relief because our family doctor decided that the ball couldn't have done the damage. Luckily my uncle/Godfather happened to be down one evening and told me about a chiropractor down in Cork how had done work on pretty much all my cousins for different things. Eventually I went down to Cork, met Doug the chiropractor and had my neck treated, I know the description doesn't really belay the pain but if you have ever got a really bad migraine try and imagine getting it continually from 10 weeks. Well that's about it really, there are a few more though not nearly as bad as those two. -
Well as I said to you when you sent me the draft of the RPG, I'm really looking forward to this. I had it in my mind to actually do a Zoids RPG of some description but thanks to you Bill I can merely sit back and just participate, Ohkami has asked pretty much all the questions I wanted to ask but there are still a few I'm not 100% about. 1] Apart from the Banned List and obvious NCZ Zoids, are there any other Zoids that are off limits ? 2] When combat is conducted will there be a person delegated as Judge or will there be some other method of deciding who wins ?

I'm going to side with Josh on this one although the idea is sound in theory I think it would cause quite a few problems once implemented. The Moderators do their job to a tee and a think there really isn't any reason to create some kind of a parliament which would effectively usurp their powers. One of the few things I would agree with Corey on would be possibly a little more transparency about the election of Moderators, though if memory serves when that happened it caused some problems. I think we have a good system and "If it ain't broke don't fix it".
