1.
I apologize for butting in, but I don't see how Sciros's statement was offensive, not to mention factually incorrect. Throughout history, religious beliefs have been used as a justification for all sorts of horrible atrocities--everything from the Crusades to modern-day terrorism. This doesn't mean there's anything inherently wrong with the concept of religion; the problem lies with the extremists who call themselves believers and yet do things which go against fundamental principles of their faith (i.e. when radical Christians bomb abortion clinics). ~Dagger~
Perhaps I was a little zealous in my projection of my thoughts, but I do stick to my previous points. To be honest I just found the statement offensive as a Catholic because of the way Sciros basically said that religions were not founded to be pillars of Good. I base much of what I consider to be right and wrong in this life on a mixture of common-sense and what I have been taught through my faith, fair enough some people do not follow religions but that does not give them the right to insult mine. Yes I accept groups throughout history have used religion as a means for violence and some terrible things, I don't dispute that point because it is perfectly correct. What I do dispute is that fact that the vast majority of religions do not promote acts of violence in any shape or form and most certainly not in their name. However you have made the point that it is extremists who carry out these acts, the fact majority of religious people (myself included) find these acts as terrible as people of no religion do.
That. That last thing right there. That was what you said people wouldn't do. I'll leave it until later in my post, however. What I think Sciros meant was that "Do unto others..." is generally an accepted moral in religions, but is really not followed very well. Just look at schools. Considering that some bully somewhere must be religious, wouldn't you think they'd follow that rule? No, no they wouldn't. They probably wouldn't even think about it. Not every single religious person is going to be completely benign or follow their religion perfectly.
I didn't say that everyone followed the morals of religion perfectly because people have the freedom of choice to acts as they wish (to a reasonable degree). You have given an example, as I said before that bully is acting out of his own choice, yes if he did follow the morals of right and wrong in many religions he would bully people but it in the end is his choice. As for the point about how everyone down somewhere is religious, I believe that point is disputable, not everyone follows religion and those who do not commit crimes the same as those who do. I don't think that religion can be used as a reason for a person's evil acts because religion beliefs can always be overruled by choice.
thing, there is something severely wrong with that. What you basically said was "I'm not listening to you because you don't agree with my religion". Come on.
I've already addressed the beginning of that point in the first section of my post, however in dealing with the point you made I would bring up that it was directed at the statement made by Sciros that religions should not be looked to for moral guidance. The fact is that the Catholic Church, and those derived from it were based on the teachings of Jesus Christ and those who had come before him, they advocated a life of good and decency so I (maybe not in the clearest of ways) rebuked his point. I did not intend any insult I merely wanted to make a point.
 2. Interesting, most interesting. Again I find myself in agreement with Alex's points, the girl sitting beside you in your music class may just be a little slower than you are, or perhaps she's just not fully aware of the procedures involved. To go so far as to ***** and moan she's not as good as you is down right cold, how would you like it if a fellow in Ninth Grade was doing the same thing to you as you are doing to her ? As for the whole Younger Kids are Stupid issue I think that is completely farce, by that same sentiment I could say that anyone here who is younger than myself is stupid and anyone who is older than me is more intelligent than I am. The fact is that as we age most of us grow in maturity, the longer you've been around the more mature you are, at least hopefully. I can't really comment on the Musical Instrument issue because I've only ever learned how to play the Tin Whistle and it's been so long since I've played it I doubt that I'm any good anymore. However I would agree that it takes a hell of a lot of practice to become proficient at any musical instrument, as Lore has said it takes a lot of time and some natural skill to become good.
 3.
Kane you misunderstood much of what Godel said. It's not a question of one person finding it offensive, it's a question of it becoming divisive (as it clearly does, even here, in this thread). Godel says that because religion is a divisive issue, and the school environment can do without divisive issues, religion SHOULD be stifled in schools. For that reason. Anyone who opposes this using the First Amendment argument doesn't know that schools don't really have to follow it to a large extent. Take dress codes, for instance.
Well since I don't live in America you don't have to worry about me using the First Amendment as a shield for my opinions. First off I don't believe that I misunderstood Godel's point, who has made the point that he does not believe than religions of any description should be practised in schools. I disagree that religion is a divisive issue, if it is not forced upon a people then nobody has the right to tell me or anyone else that I don't have the right to practice my religion.
You in particular might not, but many others DO. This has next to nothing to do with "political correctness." This has to do with maintaining a school environment as conducive to learning as possible.
And how exactly does it disrupt the conductive environment in a school if I decided to read a Bible quietly in a class, I'm not disrupting anyone, I'm not pushing someone else to read it and I'm certainly stand up and start pointing out peoples faults and telling them to seek redemption in God. To be honest I think it's fools who go around opposing all levels of religion who cause much of this tension and disruption when it comes to education.
Not only is it obvious that you did not read half of what Godel had to say, looking at the first part of that sentence, but it is also obvious that your view of religion is quite naive. That "do unto others," along with "thou shalt not kill," etc. etc. are simply not followed. To view organised religion (that is what's in question, just so you're not confused) as some source of morality is to be ignorant of its history and its goals.
Not only to I find that statement to be grossly idiotic but I also find it to be most offensive. Who are you to say that idea of "Do undo others as you would have them do unto you" is not followed ? I can quite assuredly say than I follow the ideals of my religion as do tens of millions of people across the globe. The fact that you go on to saw that using the creed of any organised religion as a source of morality is to be ignorant of it's history and goals proves to me once and for all that you are completely intolerant of religion. I am well aware of the history and goals of religion I think it is you who are not, perhaps if you read a Bible sometime you might heard of a thing called the Ten Commandments or a being called Jesus Christ, if you haven't or choose to disregard them then your above point is moot at least in regard to the Catholic Church.
 4. Interesting, most interesting. To be honest I think it's a nice idea though not everyone on OB is an artist, I myself wouldn't draw well if my life depended on it. Others though like Gavynn for instance have some really great talent when it comes to their art and it really helps set the atmosphere in their RPGs. To be honest I couldn't see it becoming a standard requirement in the Adventure Square, as I said not everyone would have the skill to augment art successfully into their RPGs. However that's not to say that other people shouldn't try and implement it if they've got the skills, fair play to them and the best of luck.
 5. Hmm interesting... However Godelsensei I think you've already made it quite clear from the content and context of your posts that you are intolerant when it comes to religions. You have basically said, like it or not that it's OK for me to have my religion as long as you don't have to see or know about it. The fact that you go so far as to find it offensive for a person to have a Bible in class takes the issue a little too far for my own personal tastes. I'm a Roman Catholic and I've always attended schools where Catholicism is the norm, in Ireland something like 75% people are Catholic so there is little objection to the practising of religion in school. In my High School we have religion classes and religious events held in the school of a Catholic nature and those who are not Catholic are given the option of non-participation. Now while I do agree that banning dangerous religious items such as the dagger is prudent, things like Bibles or Headscarves is not appropriate, I think such acts are taking political correctness to the extreme. Yes I wouldn't like to have someone of a different religion come up and attempt to convert me to their way of thinking but I would never go so far as to ask that he not even engage in any form of religion near me. As for your "hitting another person on the head with a Bible" I think that is just completely moronic in nature, you are aware that most major religions advocate the point that you should "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".
 6. Just reading Alex's post has me almost shaking in anticipation to get to see the Old Trilogy in all it's glory, I really want to get my hands on it sometime in the next few days and spent hours just watching every subtle nuance as I did back when I was a child. I'd never been the biggest fan of Hayden Christiansen but after what Alex has said I'd be slightly more optimistic about his work on Episode III, the fact that he's gotten so involved in the actual project itself has reversed my opinion that he was only playing Anakin with a half heart.
 7. Interesting, most interesting. To be honest I'm probably not going to buy this game, usually I'd be one of the first to pick up a good Star Wars game but this seems to be pitched at guys with a far faster internet connection than my own snail paced 26.6 connection. Now I admit the screenshots look nice, though to be honest it does look slightly grainy in parts to me. I know Alex has said that the game does have a good single player mode but I still get the feeling it's geared to be far more enjoyable in a multi-player experience.
The Star Wars franchise is pretty large, and many of the games aren't really all that great. Jedi Outcast, for example.
Woah now hold on Wingnut Jedi Outcast was one hell of a game and really did justice compared to some of the previous crap that LucasArts has stuck it's name to. Jedi Outcast had it's faults like any other game however the sheer playability of the game after the first five or six levels makes up for some early set backs.
 8. Interesting my son, most interesting. To be honest my mind wandered a bit while I was reading it but it was still a fascinating little piece of literature. I've not reached the level where I can get into college so perhaps some of the subtle nuances to it were lost on me but it was still an interesting little piece.
 9. Interesting, most interesting. To be absolutely honest I'm actually not a hundred percent on where I got my latest username from. I think I chose it on a bit of a whim a few months ago in an AIM conversation with James but the reason behind it eludes me. The obvious answer would be to say it's from the WWF (or whatever it's called now) wrestler, however I'm almost sure that that's not where I thought it up. I had a school teacher called Mr. Kane so it's possible the name came from there, it's also possible it's a variation on the name Cain from the Bible. Perhaps in the end it's all three but Kane I am, and Kane I shall stay.
 10. I hate to be the barer of bad news Domon but I'm respectfully going to have to drop out of the RPG, a few things have come up in the last number of days as well as a massive increase in my school work. This means I have very little to even post in RPGs that I'm very committed to, again I'm sorry for wasting your time.
 11. Well I'd tend to agree with James' opinion on the situation, it's more than likely the lighting level which affects other people's perception of what colour your eyes are. My own irises are a kind of dark watery blue and they do seem to change depending on the level of light when I?m looking in the mirror, not magic but it can seem weird.
 12. Interesting, most interesting. Well I think the whole sitting in the Pre-school reading a children's book was a bit of a double edged sword as far as Bush or any other politician could be concerned. To be honest I think he actually made the right decision in staying where he was to sort out his thoughts. The point that he may have scared the children is a little silly in my opinion, he could have quite easily just excused himself in about two minutes before jumping on his plane and going back to D.C. I mean put yourself in his position if you can, you are the leader of the world?s most powerful country, and your country has just been attacked for the first time since Pearl Harbour. Now maybe I'm reading too deeply into this, but I think reading a children?s book might have helped give him a small bit of perspective on the gravity his situation. Now that is just my opinion he may have had a completely different reason for staying put. On the whole "Mud-Slinging" issue of American politics I think it's rather sad, I was just having a conversation with my father yesterday about how a politician how employs Spin-doctors can never be taken seriously. I mean this in a bad way, a man who hires another man to take information and change it is effectively hiring another man to write lies for him. Take this example we discussed in Religion earlier this week. "Eats, shoots and leaves" - This can be used to describe the actions of a man who robbed a restaurant and killed someone to make the manager hand over the money. "Eats shoots and leaves" - This describes the eating habits of a panda. Now the only difference there was a comma but it changed the statement graphically. It's the same way in modern politics, it's not about appearing to be the Good Guy, it's about making the other guy look like the Bad Guy.
 13. Interesting, most interesting... Well as interesting as making a complete *** out of yourself can be, my own most interesting moment will forever be etched into my mind. It happened roughly 11 or 12 years ago, I'd won a regional art competition and was to receive my prize as at a kind of award ceremony along with everyone else who won in their age groupings. I'd sent in a picture of nothing less that the famous "Gingerbread Man" and for some reason someone actually though I deserved a trophy for it. Now this was not a big event there were a couple of photographers from local papers as we got the awards but my moment decided to occur at the most inopportune time. Just after receiving the trophy it fall apart, literally, a small piece of plastic holding the top of the trophy to the base broke in the middle of the damn occasion. Here's me a little 4 or 5 year old wonder what's happened and my father is rushing trying to get some glue to stick it back together, in the end I just had to hold it together but it really was quite embarrassing at the time.
 14. Interesting, most interesting. Well I'd definitely rank Star Trek at the top of any list I'd write on this subject. Star Trek represented a pivotal role in television programming, it showed a future where humans had got past everything that was bad about humanity and moved on. Star Trek gave hope to a generation that things would work out OK, hell if you look at the crew of The Original Series you've got a representative from nearly every people on Earth. To me Star Trek represented that fruits of what might be if generations actually took it seriously.
 15. Damn there've been a few replies to this, and most of these people seem to have acquired the DVDs before I've even had a chance to reserve my copy. Just going by the consensus I'd say my canine-with-rabies-like slobbering in anticipation had been worth the wait. As per Mike's (Shinmaru's) post I'm quite happy they've fixed to obvious added scenes from the Original Special Editions, Solo's super dodging skilled just irked me the wrong way.
The latest thing involving Pokemon in Japan right now is apparently a special Rayquaza Edition emerald-green GBA SP, adorned with images of it all over. I think it's a commemoration of some sort. On a slightly different note, with the NES SP, the Tribal Edition SP, and the new pink SP, that's three gimmicks in total, along with many, many other things Nintendo related that are mostly critically acclaimed for their collectable value.
Hmm interesting... I have to admit though these days new styled limited edition GBA SPs are coming along every other day and there's only a slight variation between most of them. I'm still happy with my silver GBA SP which I bought when they first came out although I must admit I am tempted by some of these new designs they've come up with. As for the whole Fire Red and Leaf Green series of the Pokémon games I don't think I'm going to bother with them this time around. I owned both of the original games and I have to admit that I'm not intrigued by them going back and revamping Red and Blue to produced these. To me this just says that Nintendo are running out of ideas for the Pokémon series, I mean there are so many other areas they could have gone with these games but it must have been easier to just reproduced the originals with new graphics and a few new features. What's next [Something] Gold and [Something] Silver ?
 17.
And a few other males would have had me, but I am saddly unattainable unless you promise me what Kane promised me. 9 inches.
O_O, OK I have absolutely no idea how to respond to that... Yeah I suppose I could say that I'm the one who finally married one of OB?s swingin?est Oldies, interesting since we?d role-played together for about 3 years before I worked up the guts to ask her to marry me [waits for the Aww...] But as for the last part of that sentence I really don't know what to say...
 18. Interesting, most interesting. Well I've only seen a few ads for this on TV and to be honest until recently I had absolutely no idea what the film was about. After reading what's been said here I admit that I am slightly more hyped about going to see this film, I'm a big sci-fi buff even if it isn't really a sci-fi film. I'd tend to agree with Juu here, I wouldn't be the greatest fan of Ms Jolie but I'd be willing to go in with an open mind and see how it goes.
 19. Hmm interesting. Well I've only done it once to my knowledge, though I may have actually gone out with other girls who've dated my friends unbeknownst to me. Her name was Emma and she'd dated my friend Brian for a few weeks before they decided to call it a night on their relationship, to be honest I'd always liked Emma and I wasn't sure if it was right to make a move without asking Brian. In the end I did actually ask him and he said that he was fine with it as long as I was happy with going out with her, we went a few times but to be honest I preferred her as a friend rather than a girlfriend. I wouldn't be against going out with a girl a friend of mine had been out with unless he had very strong objections to me doing so, I'm not in the habit of putting girls over my friends so to me it's a no fly zone unless I have authorisation. Still if you like the girl/guy and you friend thinks it's OK I can only say go for it, variety is the spice of life...
 20. I?m not sure if this is exactly what you want but here goes.
?Kyle Katarn: Jedi, Rebel, Man? ?Few people are truly aware of the influence he?s [Kyle] had on the galaxy? the old Imperial continued unabated in what appeared to be a one sided conversation, ?I knew the day I say Kyle that he was destined for great things?. I watched without interrupting him merely nodding in agreement, men like Captain Brand who?d served The Empire for decades expected nothing less, though with the Rebel?s apparent victory over the Second Death Star I could hear a tremor in his voice. It was one thing to hear such accounts from Rebels who regarded Katarn as something of a legend, but hearing it from an Imperial Captain was something special. He nodded back at me before raising his glass and taking another long sip from it, ?Yeah Katarn was what we used to call a Farm-Boy, guys from some back water world who came here to get a piece of the action?, he coughed roughly before continuing. ?I guess if we really knew our stuff we?d have kept our eyes on guys like him, hell the Rebels have gained some fine men through our mistakes.? Another name popped into my head, that of smuggler and all around scumbag Han Solo, I couldn?t believe that he?d once been an Imperial like Brand. He?d obviously followed the same thought trail as I had because it was the next word out of his mouth ?Solo, I never had the pleasure of meeting him, if you could call it a pleasure?, there was a hint of anger in his last sentence but I couldn?t blame him really. Again Brand took another long sip from his drink, it seemed to help clear out his throat, I considered myself quite lucky to be able to see him, after Endor most Imperials shied away from talking to the media, but it seemed Brand had a soft spot for Katarn. ?When he first arrived on Carida I was in charge of sorting the new recruits out into their squadrons, Kyle stood out at me from the moment I saw him, he was a big guy and had a look to him that just screamed Officer Material, but I guess he followed another path?. Brand was one of the few high ranking Imperials not to have to face a war crimes committee, I had never really seen the point in it, it was a war and they were the commanders just like Madine and Ackbar. Brand was the second last person on my interview list and so far I had some really great stuff on Kyle, I had a good feeling about this interview. ?It wasn?t long until he drew the attraction of the Intelligence Branch, I had wanted to keep him under my wing but sadly they got to him before I did, I never even got to saw good bye to him.? He continued though the mood shifted from one of strictly business to one of a father describing a prodigal son, ?I never believed that we were responsible for the old man?s [Morgan Katarn, Kyle?s father] death, sure we kept tabs on people like him but our guys don?t use lightsabers...? I could see the old Imperial was tired, a guy of his age had probably spent half a century in the Navy, probably didn?t have time for a family either. ?Kyle went AWOL after that, I tried to get in contact with him but Ors convinced him otherwise, heh, she?s a bad influence on him?, Jan Ors the woman who turned Kyle against the Empire, she claimed that it had been Imperials who killed Morgan but even her intel turned out wrong. Katarn?s partner I?ve heard they?re getting married sometime in the future. ?Kyle always had a temper about him, not a bad one, but one that made him determined to win at any cost, he was one of the guys who went on to become big in the Navy, guys like Tarkin?. I could guess by the context of what he was traversing a part of the story that he really didn?t want to go on to, but I pressed on regardless asking him what happened new. ?Well here?s where we get onto the stuff few people know about Kyle, hell it even surprised me when I was briefed on it, yeah Kyle was the one and only ?Ghost of Danuta?. I had heard rumours about that name a few years ago, the ?Ghost of Danuta?, the man who secured the plans to the first Death Star, I was surprised to hear it was Kyle. ?Heh yeah he got away clean and look at the mess that happened after that, Kyle really fell in with the wrong crowd, I can only think what the galaxy would be like if he?d never defected?. The destruction of the first Death Star had been the first in what one could describe as the intricate game which lead to the defeat of the Empire and the ?restoration? of the Republic. The room was quite spacious, not bad for a man who once commanded a Star Destroyer, Brand had chosen to remain on Coruscant after the fall of the Empire though as an old man he was rarely bothered. He drained of the remains of what had been in the glass before neatening his beard, probably out of habit rather than need. Either way it didn?t stop him from continuing with his story. ?He went after Jerec then, a Dark Jedi as they call them, I never got the difference between guys like Vader and guys who called themselves Dark Jedi. Jerec and his band of rogue Jedi had been after some kind of powerful energy nexus, they claimed it would make them the masters of the galaxy, but never counted on Katarn, heh heh I was glad to hear he was the one who dispatched them?. I?d read up as much as I could on Kyle before going on to write this article, his battle against Jerec and his minions was published widely enough for even guys like Brand to know what happened. Seemingly Kyle had gone one some kind of quest and killed each of Jerec?s minions before killing Jerec himself, two Jedi locked in battle, reminded me of the old holovids I?d watch as a child. ?Yeah after Jerec I heard he left the Jedi, felt he touched too close to the Dark Side, went back with Ors just doing mercenary jobs for Mon Mothma, that was until he Desann cross his path, he seems to attract Dark Jedi like Skywalker, another Farm-Boy?. I was well acquainted with what had happened between Kyle and Desann, Desann had been a previous student of Skywalker before going to the Dark Side, seemingly he?d teamed up with Galak Fyyar and the Remnant when they launched that attack on Yavin 4. Again Brand seemed to have read my thoughts ?I never liked Fyyer, no loyalty, being made Admiral was a mistake on our part, but he served his purpose and Kyle saw to him too, yeah Kyle thought that Desann had killed Ors and he decided to make it his mission to make Desann pay...? He trailed off, I?d heard the story a hundred times, from Rebels, Imperials and fellow journalists, Katarn with some help from Skywalker helped to thwart Desann and Fyyer?s plans to take over Yavin 4 and probably the Core given enough time. After defeating Desann I?d heard that Kyle and Jan had decided to take a little break together on Spyra, last I heard that?s where they still were. I got the hint that Brand was getting tired, not of me but just tired, his eyes had a kind of a glazed-over look that came with his age, 78 and still going strong. I decided to wind up the interview and thanked him for his time, men like him had served the Empire and rarely got their credit, ?Do you think Kyle will read the interview ?? They question had kind of come at me from an angle I wasn?t expecting so I wasn?t sure how to answer him, it was obvious Brand missed Kyle a great deal and would probably love to hear from him, Morgan may have been Kyle?s true father but Brand certainly fitted the role just as well. As I departed I told him that I?d tell Katarn to pay him a visit if I ever saw him, he nodded cheerfully before I left. Men like Brand came around far too few in number, perhaps I?d do an article on him some time. ?This has been Selik Garn, Good night? , I yawned as the camera from the holovid died and I stepped off the platform I?d just given my interview from. It had been an interesting night...
21. Interesting... most interesting. Well I only ever had the chance to play this once over at a friend?s house so I never really have deep consideration to a sequel. I've never been the biggest fan of Nintendo's take on certain sports but I must admit that Mario Tennis was a hell of a lot of fun under the right circumstances. Overall I think this will be an interesting little game to keep and eye out for but there are a few games ahead of it on my "To Buy" list.
 22. Well it sounds like you've got a truly wonderful mother-in-law, pardon my sarcasm, to be honest I don't think there's really anything you can do to resolve this. If she wants to be a tramp, for the lack of a better word the you're just going to have to put up with it or move away from her. I find it amusing that this is the first time I've ever heard about a wife who dislikes her mother-in-law, usually or at least in my experience it's the son-in-law who doesn't get on. If she really does get on your nerves that much I'd advise you to just tell her that if she does want to see her grandchild she'd better stop acting up and show you a little respect. Not nice but she doesn't seem to be a nice woman.
 23. Hmm well the first thing I'd say is that violence never solves anything, unless it's you who wins the fight. Personally I've never been big on the whole "kick the livin' crap out of a guy because he's annoying you", but that's me and I only have your side of the story to make judgements on. If the group is really annoying you then I'd suggest that you just leave it be and ignore them, find somewhere else and see how quickly they'll lose interest in their newly acquired piece of territory. If you do want to take this to the level of a physical brawl, which it sounds like it may turn out my only advice to you is to bring guy who are bigger and stronger their guys are, that and have more of them. If it does degenerate into brawl I can assure you that most of these tough guys will have little interest in fighting you if they think they're going to lose, they'll probably just turn tail and run and that'll be the end of it. Either way just don't get the police involved in this little argument.
 24.
Well, I for one am happy to finally see the series on DVD. I've been waiting for it to go to DVD for years now, for the quality, scene selection, and of course, extra features. I certainly don't think I will mind the small changes Lucas made, heh. Besides, it's been so long since I got to see it that I doubt I'd know the difference. My birthday is also only a couple days before the release, so I'm definitely asking for money for that, lol.
Well I suppose I might be being a little over zealous in my comments, though my opinion of Lucas's additions will probably not change any time in the near future. Like anyone here I'm already waiting anxiously for it to come out on Monday, yes there are additions to it but that's still not stopped me from slobbering like a dog in anticipation. Just out of pure curiosity what price are they charging for the DVD Trilogy near you ? For myself I have the option of either buying it from ShopIreland.ie for ?44 and I should have it within a few days of it being released, my other option is buying it from a few places near me but so far the best price I've seen is ?55 (I think) is it worth having it a few days early and paying ?11 extra ?
 25. OK again I'm going to have to sacrifice my pride in order to better understand the requirements of the RPG. I get the way in which the RPG is laid out, thanks for explaining it for me, however after looking at Shy's and Shinmaru's posts I have to admit I'm a little confused again. In signing up do we pick the character we're actually aiming to sign up as or is that just a sample by which you judge the different character ?
