I actually meant in a form of escape for Soifon to use Shunko. (I should've specified that) I don't think she would've lost her arm had she'd used it. Unless I'm mistaken in thinking Shunko makes one move faster.... (It's been a while since I've seen/heard shunko before the last chapter
Ah OK, I thought you meant using Shunko as some kinda of barrier defence against Respira's effects, from what I recall Shunko "augments" the user's limbs though I always took that to mean striking power rather than speed/agility otherwise it'd be something Yama would have all Shinigami learn. Not sure if it's a bug or not but there's a difference in my post count displayed in a thread and in actual my profile. So which of new OB's two skins are you grooving to (and why) ? Liking Wet Paint myself, the reds and greys of Basic are just looking a little too harsh for me over the softer tones of orange and blue.

Well, in the little over two weeks I've had the game I've powered through and completed the main storyline of the game and the vast majority of the side quests available (sitting somewhere around 92% completion) as well as partaking in the multiplayer side to the game and I have to say that Rockstar have really blown me away with this one. Like Alex I wasn't really all that impressed by GTA4 as it just didn't feel like a GTA game to me, especially after how solid San Andreas was by comparison, IV actually felt like a bit of a backwards step but RDR really rekindled my faith in Rockstar's ability to make excellent sandbox games. Have to admit despite 50 something hours sunk into the game I've yet to fully master duelling, though I do love to kick back in
Blackwater
and play some high stakes poker when I feel like taking it easy and soaking up the atmosphere for a while.

Finished both Red Dead Redemption and Alan Wake on the Xbox 360 in the last couple of days, both excellent games and examples of their genres and about to start Final Fantasy XIII also on the 360 (even though I've heard the PS3 version looks much better) after I've had some sleep. Already abusing the display name ability eh Magus ? I'm admit I'm somewhat apprehensive about Kubo's reasoning behind Isshin using Getsuga (aside from the obvious gits and shiggles he so often employs), I've seen a couple of semi-passable theories which don't involve Isshin actually having a Zangetsu of his own (his zan can copy other zan's abilities for one) but I'm still a bit leery about the whole thing which hopefully will be explained this week. Like Magus I thought the plot behind DiamondDust where multiple Shinigami can share the same zanpakutou spirit was incredibly lame and out of left-field (that and it centred around Hitsugaya) when everything we've seen in Bleach so far seems to state that zanpakutou are as unique as the Shinigami who use them. Not really surprised Urahara pulled another new shikai move for Benihime out, I'm guessing his zan allows him to manipulate his Bloodmist energy in whatever fashion he pleases, which seems a bit like kidou energy to me.

Spiritual successor to Rockstar's Red Dead Revolver released in 2004, Redemption places the player in the shoes of John Marston a partly reformed outlaw in turn of the century America obliged to bring law to the lawless. One of the most eagerly awaited games of the year, it has been declared both a "tour de force" and a "masterpiece" by IGN, racking up an incredible 97% rating. OK, shilling done. I'm eagerly awaiting my own copy of the game released on Friday and am wondering if there are any fellow OBers eager to get their six-shooters on dive head-first into Rockstar's new western sandbox adventure ?

As a consolation prize for a terribly predictable plot for this week in the manga I must say episode 270 of the anime just blew me away in terms of the quality of animation and adaptation. Gives the mixture of filler with canon recently I was worried this fight wouldn't get what it deserved, but dear God was I wrong.

Kyle funnily enough reminds me a lot of Goku, that off-beat, loves fighting yet laid back personality with a good heart. His current fight against
the guy from Scourge
has a real DBZ feel to it for me which I can't say is a bad thing in the way it's done. His level-headedness is one advantage he has over the Saiyan anyway.
It's like the creator of this series took personalities from other shonen series and just improved them 100 fold.
Certainly the lack of obvious obnoxious personalities helps (Dholaki reminded me of TTGL's Viral), even
Oboro pulling an Aizen and looking to move beyond his previous limitations is done without all the "Just as planned" stuff
which makes it much easier read.
Anyway, I'm trying to figure out how I'd rank the characters in terms of favorites for Psyren. ....Dang, I've never had this much of a hard time trying to compile a list of favorite characters for a series.
For me anyway the hardest part is there aren't any characters I specifically dislike, everyone has at least one cool quality to them. Grana is perhaps my favourite character because of his lazy badassness.

Anime The state of anime in the U.S. and abroad
Gavin replied to Dragonboym2's topic in Otaku Central
I'd like to add a little something to this since I'm a business major and I feel the need to point out how the comment that "fansubbers are destroying anime" is in fact more of a guilt trip, instead of the the company accepting that their primary goal is to meet the customers needs. You don't tell the customer what they need and threaten to sue them when they make it clear they don't want it the way you're willing to give it to them. You find a way to bring it to them at a cost they can afford and is enough to bring in reasonable profit for your company. To put it bluntly, the anime companies are so afraid of change that many failed to recognize the potential for digital sales quite a while ago. Many are still dragging their feet in regards to getting behind online sales of episodes and soundtracks. The music industry did the same thing, dragged their feet and whined about piracy and all those people out there sharing it and yet once some of them got past that and started offering what people wanted, sales went back up. Just as CD's replaced tapes, downloads are slowly replacing CD's. The same is happening to Anime. The market has changed and you either find a way to become a part of that or you will fold. The more you blame your customers, the more they simply will not listen to you. Yes there are people who will get it for nothing, but there are people who can and do pay for what they get. Anyway, I would have to do some research, but I'm fairly certain Indi is quite correct in pointing out that a lot of the decline in sales, for more than just anime I might add, have nothing to do with fansubbing, but with economy woes, among other things. Also, I think people are forgetting that we grew up with the option to watch things on Television. We are used to seeing a show or hearing a song before we ever buy it. So why would someone just buy an anime series without watching it beforehand? If it's not on TV then you have to find another way to watch it. A huge percentage of anime never gets aired so naturally people aren't going to just pay for it up front to 'support' the industry. They're gonna want to see it first to determine if it's something they even want spend their money on.
As a fellow business student I'd have to agree with Sabrina's assessment of the situation. Given the prevalence of streaming as a method of dissemination among the fansubbing community, I find it absolutely baffling that American distributors haven't attempted something similar. I mean those companies have the added bonus of higher quality material, a huge backlog of animes which mightn't be available elsewhere and a strong financial background to set up legal, paying sites. Heck they could even produce their own 100% legal subbed versions of animes for fans who don't want to wait months for the dubs. If I'm willing to pay $15 dollars a month to play an MMO I'm willing to do something similar for my anime viewing desires. If companies go under because they're not willing to change their business strategy to exploit obvious marketing opportunities then I have absolutely no pity for them. Added to that it's animes with strong fansubbing communities which are the ones that American distributors often choose to translate, because of said successful and strong communities. So saying they're directly responsible for the demise is disingenuous. Also, can we get the title of this thread changed to something a little more accurate ? -
Please Isshin, don't do what your son was doing back when the captains were fighting against Aizen. It will take away all of your credibility.
Agreed, especially since Aizen seems to have stopped using his illusionary abilities completely. I'd like to see a bit more of Gin and Ichigo's fight too.

Good chapter this week, albeit naturally incomplete. Kinda cool to see flashbacks for the Kumo-nin (Raikage looked even more badass when he was younger). Also confirms that Bijuu can be redeemed given Hachibi's little conversation with B, if Naruto manages to achieve the same with Kyuubi it could be a very interesting source of info about the ninja world. Bear-wrestling is also awesome.

Man whose release were you guys reading ? Mangastream only released theirs last night. Honestly I was hoping for a bit more of a fight between Aizen and Urahara, although I think Aizen is going to pull a Dr Manhattan and just reassemble himself from nothing in the next chapter. Dialogue was particularly good, and it does indeed hint that Urahara isn't as clearly on the side of good as he makes himself out to be. On another note, the anime's new habit of mixing filler with manga is becoming extremely annoying.

Just up to chapter 30 and I'm actually quite enjoying the series. Certainly in my Top 4, maybe even Top 3 if Naruto doesn't start to pick up in the next few weeks. Edit: Just finished Chapter 116 and as usual there's that great sense of disappointment to no longer be able to peruse the series at will and see where the story goes. Psyren's definitely worked it's way into my Top 3 now, having pushed Naruto to 4th, about equal with Bleach (much, much better pacing that Bleach) and under Berserk.

Weird, just noticed the series last night and was going to ask if anyone else was reading it to find out if it was worth getting into.
