2.
I have seen many forums employ this [the most common name for it being "karma"]. Whether or not it works, I can't say. I'm gonna take the neutral party: go ahead and make a poll by all means, but I don't think OB will suffer with or without it.
Agreed, I'm neutral on the whole thing, let's have a vote and if people want it introduced then that's fair enough.
  3. Tad late to the party, too much stuff got in the way of going to see the film while it was in the cinema so I decided to just rent the Blu-Ray version. Having finished it I'm trying very hard to tie all my varying opinions together to form a single overall impression and I think it's best expressed by the fact I found it to be juvenile to the point of vulgarity. There are points in the film which are excellent, that I concede, those composed mostly of Waltz's Col. Landa. Charming and sinister he is the epitome of villainy while at the same time drawing a considerable amount of the audiences (unwilling?) support. His introduction in Chapter One was marvellous, summing the character up entirely for the rest of the movie. Shosanna equally provides a compelling and enthralling aspect of the overall story, although there was something about the dynamic between herself and Zoller which just...didn't work for me in a way I can't put into words. Hicox for his relatively limited screen-time was an enjoyable diversion also, I particularly liked the
how he was exposed finally as a genuine spy by simply the way in which he ordered drinks
. It was a nice subtlety in film which marred by a almost complete lack of the concept. The Basterds themselves were the weakest part of the film, and as the title characters I do hold them overall as the focal point around which the rest of the plot revolved. Pitt's Aldo did absolutely nothing beyond disgust me, if I was supposed to cheer boorishly for the Nazi's having their own inhuman tactics turned against them then I'm afraid it didn't happen. Aldo had none of Landa's charm or panache to make him a likeable character for me, merely the leader of a bunch of gore-obsessed Jewish-American soccer hooligans out to have a laugh and take back some trophies. I was actually rather hoping Landa would kill him in the end. I'm genuinely trying to work out whether or not the film was intended to be a searing indictment of its own fans. Just as Nation's Pride's audience whooped and cheered at each of Zoller's faceless Allied kills and that it was merely propaganda designed to sate the Nazi masses I can't help but wonder if each Basterd kill was designed to illicit the same response. If it was then I would look at the movie in an entirely different light, but try as I might I believe it was an accidental criticism. So yes, overall while there were some excellent moments I thought the film was just juvenile and I'm rather sorry I wasted my money by actually renting it instead of watching it online for free. 8.
If someone is only attracted to you when you [strike]hide[/strike] "put in reserve" your interests, do you really want to attract them? It seems like you're just inconveniencing yourself, and the other person. If she won't date a Star Wars nut, wouldn't you both rather know that beforehand?
Well it's not as if I specifically pick women whom I know would never date a man with geeky tendencies, it's like any relationship where it takes time to get to know a person fully. If the subject of conversation becomes our interests then sure, I'll let her know I'm a bit of a geek, but I do interests aside from geeky stuff and have had girlfriends who weren't geeks and still had quite a happy relationship with them. Perhaps "put in reserve" was a poor choice of words, I just meant that I don't I turn up for first date with a gal dressed like Darth Vader, insist that the establishment provide me with penne all'arrabbiata and then engage her in a deep philosophical debate regarding the Endor Holocaust. When I show her my apartment she's going to see my Star Wars books intermixed with other books, my DVD collection, my 360, my PC. I don't hide any of that either.

I imagine she did indeed get fired, bomb hoaxes are pretty damn serious after all. 10/10 for effort though.
  10. No prediction of snow yet again this Christmas, shame, Christmas always seems so much better with a little frozen water.
  11.
I think I am going to try and photoshop a baby seal onto a kitten...
And thus I am once again reminded of PETA's moronic "Sea-Kittens" campaign.
  12.
Though I suppose being a music major is a totally different type of geeky behavior deal than one of a Star Wars fanatic like you are Gavin. =P
Heh true enough, although my geekiness is spread out over a variety of subjects I am a colossal Star Wars nerd. That said, you are a Doctor Who fan which is technically an even smaller niche of the sci-fi fandom. :P
  13.
Either or.
Or perhaps both. But shush, if he thinks I value his presence for reasons other than my own amusement his attempts to usurp me may actually become less feeble, which while initially amusing would eventually become tiresome to constantly deal with. 14.
After all, if Wal-Mart is hell, that's my business also. You ain't in any position to negotiate.
Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha. *Wipes a tear* Good one. Tell Kei I'll have someone look at rearranging stuff in the clothing section but I'm making no promises. Now scram before I decide to turn you into a pair of winter gloves.
  15. *Applauds* There's no such thing as too soon, after all I'm already defending him in his court case against Saint Peter to get into Heaven. Speaking of which Ace, why exactly am I working for the D.A. rather than running a gargantuan and obviously evil law firm looking to recruit and corrupt you ?
  16.
Gav, store layout five continues to bother me. Keeping the bread by the bakery is nice and all, but an entire wall devoted to white bread is absurd, and kind of annoying. I want to see a couple of decent redesigns in three days. Get someone on that, neh?
Has reconstruction started on the 4th Circle yet ? You'll get your changed wall when my most capable former servants get accommodation fitting their accomplishments in life, they didn't go corrupting all those souls for no reward after all.
  17.
Come to think of it, that may be the reason Fernando's dead.
Watch your tongue construction material. You have yet to prove yourself a capable successor as my tea-boy, so do try to improve in the next six days.
  18. I would've liked to have been able to put the "you" part in bold but c'est la vie. So we're in December which means we're roughly a month away from the next incarnation of OtakuBoards famous (sort of) Nifty 50 competition and as the person responsible for setting up and maintaining it, I was wondering if there were any changes OB's members would like to see made to the event ? Should we add something like OtakuBoard's Niftiest for the most voted thread, happening or person ? Create a small cadre of awards for the Niftiest of each forum ? Obviously these are just ideas but I'm very eager to here member's thoughts on this subject, just to freshen things up a bit hopefully.
  19.
Sell out.
I know, I know. I ought to turn in my lightsaber right now but I believe that by getting previously un-nerdy girls used to dating a nerdy guy it opens up a larger playing field for the rest of us. I'm like Quinlan Vos, joining the Dark Side to destroy it from within. Of course should I happen to come across a nice nerdy girl who's already a giant Star Wars geek then the mask drops immediately I promise.
  20. God damn it, why did nobody wave for the camera ?
  21.
Oh man, girls are so mysterious and they never make sense, am I right? Sexism is super funny!
You think so ? I've got some jokes that might just make you fall out of your seat laughing then if you want me to forward them. In retrospect I probably should've qualified that as "with some women, you never know and the same goes for some men". Thanks for taking the time to correct my warped mindset Sara, I'll just go take those shackles off my girlfriend now so she can move out of the kitchen.
  22.
What's with all the "I'm a geek, but I try to look normal" replies? Being geeky is just about having passion for something. Your interests make you who you are. Why would you go to lengths to hide that?
Because male geeks are apparently considerably less attractive (and far more numerous) than their female counterparts thereby forcing us to adopt a more normal outer appearance to attract women. It's not really hiding it, just keeping it in reserve until we're certain they're comfortable with whatever level of geekiness we possess.
  23.
Another thing that's been bothering me about this chapter is, how does Komamura know about Ichigo's thoughts about his hollowfication or rather, how do he know whether Ichigo's asked for it or not? I'm assuming the captains are smart enough to put 2&2 together and figure out about Ichigo's hollowfication when Shinji mentioned they were Ichigo's allies.
Personally I imagine the Gotei 13's knowledge about Ichigo thought's on Hollowification and whether or not he asked about it all come from the same two sources, Ichigo himself and probably more importantly Urahara. Urahara is the one who made Ichigo a naturalised Vizard (the only one in the series so far) and I'd be fairly confident that Ichigo probably has on occasion spoken to the former 12th Division Captain about his thoughts on being what he is (given he doesn't seem to fully trust the Gotei 13, or perhaps just Yamamoto). Knowledge coming from Ichigo probably came in in the period after Aizen left for Hueco Mundo but before Ichigo returned to the real world. We don't know exactly how much time he spent in Seireitei, but he seems familiar enough with all the captains (and lieutenants) to talk to them as if he knows them well enough. I imagine Yama-jii probably hauled Ichigo for a little talk either with himself alone, with a few senior captains or in front of all the remaining loyal captains and found out about how he became a Shinigami (Vizard) again and Byakuya probably reported about his Hollow form that he encountered. At least that's my take on how Soul Society seems to know Ichigo so well, I'm surprised though they've not worked out his Shinigami parentage (although I suspect they have with all the Half-Shinigami remarks) yet.
