Ok, basically, :D... I used to rent anime. After renting a dozen shows that were just worthless, I gave up. It was always the first impression that told me whether or not I was going to bother watching the show ever again. As for the first episode in the series itself, I would continue watching a series even if the first episode didn't hook me. Sorry to contridict myself, but to illustrate my point... Kenshin, first time I saw it in video was on cn (sad yes :( ) but I knew the series was awesome overall. I watched the first show and stayed around for the next one. But when I was buying video and renting video to get my anime fix (back then the net wasn't so popular), I always had to go by the first impression. Does any of that make sense... I will edit. :D

Anime The importance of being....(insert name here)
Kent replied to duorocks17's topic in Otaku Central
The Perv plays an important role in most light hearted or comedic anime. With any anime that has a perv you will instantly find humor and fan service. Although it is not important towards story development, or action, the antics of the Perv and his/her often times violent victims are always good for a laugh. (using some animes that are popular @ the otaku for examples) Whether naota and haruko, the priest from inuyasha, or master roshi, there is always something funny when the Pervs put on a move. (note that naota is the victim more often than not.) Anyway... later. :D -
Nothing actually... Well much more than that in some ways, but in the way your reffering to , nothing. Santa hasn't brought me anything since the days before I learned the message santa was trying to send out.

Family time of course... Then generousity. The spirits of being light hearted and good will towards all people. My bias- god. ;) :D later.

I would support this thread's main thesis, but there is one spot of contention... Ok, first let me state that this in no way negates the years and years of sitcom perfection that was achieved. However, one spot about seinfeld kills me... the end. The last episode to be exact. I just felt bad. The whole thing just seemed like it had no energy. Then again, I did like seeing elane go to jail, so it was still cool. But all in all, the last episode was a horrible note for the show to go out on. Just like Jordan in his return to the nba, the final note of the seinfeld show was sorely lacking the magic of all that came before it. Of course, seinfeld is still the best show of its kind to date, and because of that alone, still deserves the title of best show ever. ... [comicshopvoice]Evvv-eerrr...[/comicshopvoice] oh, well now that I think of it, the simpsons also puts in a strong bid for best show ever.

Well... I overheard a dbgt commercial and gokou said "am I gonna have to go back to school?" Then I thought, wait a second, gokou was raised on screen in db, by his grandpa in the woods with no education at all. Then he spent the rest of his life just training, saving the world, and making babies. So... what the hell were they thinking when they did the script to dbgt? Or am I just a fool?

I would really like to have tons of things... I don't think anyone in my family is getting anything this year. If I could have one thing, it would be a perfectly calm, relaxing and enjoyable holiday with my family. If I could have several things.... xbox w/ doa: online, tiger woods, halo, project gotham racing. Maybe a few ps2 games All the fluids changed in my car. And thats about it. I hope you all have a great holiday and remember, it's not the gift, it's the thought that counts.

I liked alot of outlaw star, and since it's been off of cn for a while, it hasn't come up as much... soo... I thought I would opine. Looking back on the series, what sticks out the most was the opening title song and animation. That was a great tune with some nice little fanservice/story insights. Yeah, I liked the show, but to say it's the best  ;)

Shy, I've been around a while, and have never crossed you. I plan never to do so, however, I ask that you take this with a grain of salt... This is a bad idea. Special interest groups... Petition threads are just what you said, a waste. (the cowboy bebop one looks like a good one and could have an internet chance of being noticed.) But Still, I just have an odd feeling that this thread could lead to total inactivity or total spam. Good luck. Speaking from a less critical side, I do hope things work well and I consider it an excellent work of moderation to accomidate the growing demand for petitions. Nice work :D

Im not much of a fan of banning anything. Sometimes it is needed, but others it is not. The description for this one sounds as if it crossed the line, but at the same time, I am fully ok with it. I believe in the true freedoms of the constitution and so, I believe these creator's deserve the same rights to free market and press as all others do. (so long as they do not infringe on others' rights.) Anyway... so thats it. Im ok with it, but do not like this sort of "disturbed" violence in video games... I mean, mgs snake snappin' the neck is one thing, but close ups of a victims face in strangulation? I dont think so.

[sidenote]:D Superman's parents found him in a crash space ship... :D [/sidenote] Yeah, I loved the holdiay episode, but now that some of you have weighed in, I have started to notice the lack of batman and wonderwoman in that episode. :( A shame I tell you, a shame. ------- Well before anyone jumps on me, I know this is technically a double post. I am bending this rule in honor of two things... my need to opine on justice league, and two being the length of time between this and the last post. I know a new thread would do, but keeping threads alive when it is simple discussion of the most recent episodes to our favorite series is just a nice idea to me. Sorry. :D Now for the justice... My god, could you believe this last episode? First would be Flash's importance... not all things are valuable for reasons we can explain. With speed flash contributes legistically, but with charactor and love flash contributes infinitly. Second would be superman's true powers being shown. I mean, the lobotomies for everyone? I was serieously crazy watching that. This point also carries us to doomsday. Did anyone catch that? ... Sure the bone is hard, but laser vision? Never had a chance. :naughty: This was the extreme abuse of superman's powers all of us have thought of, and never seen. I'm glad the creators reminded us of his true power. Finally and most importantly... there is a new episode of justice league upon us. How nice. Well needless to say, I was really, really happy to see the episode tonight, once again, I am a fan of the justice league. Looking forward to replies, -kent Double-post in my forum, will ya? Tsk tsk. :p I combined your posts, and (just to keep the thread bumped up to the first page) added a reply. --Manic

First off, don't give me lessons on where discussions belong. (pm vs open board. You should take your own advice and keep it in a pm if your gonna get on me about that.) Second and more importantly. You are missing the point. It's not about what you were quietly intending the avatar to achieve or who made it... it's about the fact that you used it, were proud of it, and didn't express it to be a joke to anyone besides (as you claim) james. I liked your use of qoutes, but I don't really think it achieved anything. You say it's a joke, you insinuate your proud to use the avatar. I think it was never a joke. (unless you mean an insult at my president's expense) To me, your arguments and replies are nothing but a waste of internet space. And once again, I am sorry for doing this sort of thing on the board, but I just can't let cloricus's comments go uncontended. btw, did I mention that I think the stock market is gonna go up big time today? Well I do think that. Just a guess though.
-
Well, sure, what the heck. Have your say and enjoy it. But Don't take us for fools, everyone here knows and has seen your bush avatar with the "terrorist in cheif" logo. You did use an avatar, which I have cited in my signiture... I mean, does the fact that you knew it was from an avatar even though I never mention an avatar show any sort of evidence? Plus you even back pedaled and tried to say it was a joke. Or better yet, just leave it to anyone who has been here for more than 3 months. Go ahead and keep your opinions and continue arguing with me. But do not try and act like that specific qoute was never used. Anyway, thats about as far off subject as I care to see any thread go. Sooo... sorry everyone, but I just had to address this subject. And please mention it if you do remember that avatar. btw cloricus, does this defensive stance mean your ashamed of your avatar?
-
Im with James and that's enough said. Fact is, right now we are all getting a lesson in true ignorance. So let's all pay tribute to it and take one more look at that sig of mine. (Not sorry at all cloricus, but on too many occassions you have been on the wrong side of logic, reason, morality, and ethics.) (if your really willing to support not killing saddam in the name of your own beliefs on human rights, than you should just be quiet and rejoice in his capture)

Well last night's christmas episode was great. (although lacking in action) Favorite parts: Superman's household (with the led wrapping paper :D classic) Flash's charity work... I loved that. (especially the "I kinda liked it when he did the poopy noises." ) Anyway, next week when there is a new ep I will pop back in to give my opinion... till then.

Well this was some great news for me this morning. The Iraqi people now have a legitimate chance at living in peace and growing into an honest and reputable country. Soon Iraqi will join the world as a nation that can support itself and contribute to the world. Of course, the trouble is not over and there will be a continuing struggle. However, in the end, this is big and without a doubt, it is a major victory. I also want to mention that this really should be a situation which is blind to political affiliation, however, I can see where people may look into this on a political level. Fact is, with Saddam in custody, and the dow back at 10,000, there are going to be alot of people searching for some new election year attack subjects. But more important than the possible political effects of this, are the expressed political responses in this thread... (ignoring cloricus as always ;) ) We have a liberal who reminded a conservative that they also felt this is a victory for the world... the entire world. So indeed, this is a victory for the world and hopefully one that will not be subject to petty politics. (although I don't really think that will happen.) Anyway, Joy to the world and peace on earth, may we all enjoy this day as a victory for all of humanity. (especially those of us concerned with human rights.) and maladjusted, watch how you talk about those troops... ever single captured baathist is a victory that only they could bring. And something tells me this isn't luck.

Nice points fellas. Indeed, the inter-racial relationship was noticed on this end. I don't know where the jl creators stand on politics, so Im just gonna role with it. :D (politically correct and all that ;) ) Im also seeing where the superman thing can be sorta saddening, but I also see a great story developing around it. Superman had expressed feelings of frustration with the team and then in the aftermath used a nasty laser attack that mowed down everything while wounding hawkgirl. So yes, superman's invulerability is an issue with future story written all over it. As for the bat... Damn Im happy with that representation. I actually noticed that he was bouncing on and off of a ballcony to dodge an enemy attack in the joker episode. That struck an amazing chord with me as I thought of a real world bat that hangs on walls and flutters just off of them each landing and take off. Needless to say, with the creators take on batman, I am happy. (plus he's super smart and puts a mighty pimp on wonder woman ;) ) Anyway, enough for now... till next time.

I just got back from this and thought it was great. The story was good and the acting wasn't bad at all. I think it may have awards lined up. (I mean, if gladiator can take an award, this movie will take all the awards.) The action was also really good and to compliment that was the use of actual cinematography. I just love seeing a well put together movie... nothing beats a good movie. Two big thumbs up on this one I strongly suggest seeing this movie now that the initial hype is over with.
-
Yeah... After last night's episode, I would say the above cited director's comments are perfect. The story managed to take development on the hg/gl front, flash & the bat both exhibited extrodinary skills and superman was knocked around, but always got back up with the Im stronger than you thing. I didn't see wonder woman or the green fella... (never know how to spell jaque? Sp? ) I also wanna mention what I felt were highlights... Bomb exploding in relevance to flash's running it out of town... that looked like slow motion it was so fast :D Superman showing is cliche, but always awesome strength and hand-to-hand skills against the big guy enemies. (Im just a sucker for anything like that... it can even be seen in viewing habits of the past... dbz anyone?) And one of my favorites... The Bat. He was awesome with his agility and intelligence. His leadership throughout that fight was impeckable and his ability to cordinate that leadership role with an active attacking position (mind you, being human the whole time)... that was so cool to me. Of course, the joker makes another appearance... and so... The show was great.

Now this is pretty cool, the royal flush gang, whom I first saw in "batman beyond" is now being tied into the justice league by showing the original flush gang. Although there are two major differences... In bat.beyond, they were a family and they didn't have super powers. But hey, it's still lookin like a great show, so Im cool with it.

Well I say down with rage... First off, x was murdered by muslims that didn't like when malcom found the true islam and stopped hating whites. (go look it up, don't take rocha's word for it) Second, they are a bunch of hipocrites. Thats right. You see, when you claim to be a communist and then expliot a capitalistic society so you can sell your music, you are a hipocrite. (saying one thing and doing another) All in all, I was a huge rage fan about 8 years ago, but then... I woke up. Just like he asked me to (rocha) I woke up. I stopped listening to foolish communist that are just wanna-be mexican revolutionaries and started finding things out for myself... and thats when I found out rage and rocha in particular were/are full of ****.

Hey lisha... I live in mandeville :D Im big into anime of course as you would guess. As for your problem, I can only help so much since Im a ways away from you. However, I can still suggest some stuff based on what I know about the state. First off, check out best buy and places like babages. (in whatever you closest mall may be) Down here the video stores don't seem to have much, but if you pay close attention you will find that most of the video game stores have anime. Also, suncoast, they have alot for the area. If all else fails though, I suggest best buy, they don't have a perfect selection or anything, but you should be able to find a lot of stuff there. Oh yeah, "fyi" (I think thats the name), they also carry some anime, but not nearly as much as suncoast, best buy or any of the gaming stores. Good luck with it. (trust me, I know how hard it can be... I didn't always live in louisiana, so I know how popular anime is here compared to the rest of the country.) :(

Pro-life Pro choice. Let's be mature, kay?
Kent replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
First off, I really hate avoiding the true subject at hand by calling this a choice and not a specific action. (which is killing an embryo) However, I want to stress two things. (well, three.) I really try to avoid these subjects on the net, so please dont take me too seriously. Second. You can't legislate morality. Third... although I don't like the idea of aborting a baby, I do support the right of a society to use this practice. I have too many friends that would have had ruined lives thanks to un-desired pregnancies. While the operation can represent "bad" things, it can also serve as an important and valued element in medicine as well as and more importantly, life. It's important to remember that we all have to make these choices on our own, and that is for a reason... our situations in life are not all the same, and what is best for some might not be best for others. So in the end, Im not gonna be involved with an abortion (if I can help it) but I surely will not support revoking a persons right to take advantage of this proceedure. Sure abortion can be trouble, but ruining lives in order to make sure one more fetus makes it into the world is a sure fire way to create more problems than are being solved. btw, I totally oppose the use of abortion as a last resort birth control. While it should be allowed, there should still be limits in place to prevent abuse. -
I just use cruise control all the time along with a big portion of discretion. The discretion comes in with the area I live in... louisiana. Down here, it's nothing like my home land of virginia. In VA. 55 was the normal speed limit on the highways (65 tops in some areas). Down here in LA. it's 70 everywhere besides construction zones. Even worse about the speeding down here are the cops themselves. They speed just as bad or worse than the people from the area... Im talking, I will be cruising in the left hand lane at 79mph and people will be passing on the right. Of course, this has its benefits, which is the reason I use discretion... with so much speeding, my going 79 in a 70 isn't too bad, hence, I have managed to avoid trouble for the most part. However, I want to stress something never run from the police they will always win with helicopters and radios. Dont be a fool, play it cool. :D

Well... Teen titans is a great show.(really just for its humor) However, to stick with the justice league topic... I would say the most important charactoristic of the justice league would be the solid charactor development. In no other show of this style do you find the same sort of development for each individual charactor. Thats probably why the justice league themselves are so perfect for the style of show... I mean, each member is so unique and individual that there is infinite room for development. Whether it's supermans invulnerability & boyscout additude, wonder woman's feminism, GL's sense of ethics & dignity, or flash's confident/flirtatious (sp?) nature, each charactor is given very individual traits and more importantly the time in each season of episodes to develop/express those traits. (you've also gotta love the expression of batman's charactoristics of pride & intelligence... being the only one without special powers and all.) Action, humor, and more of my favorite charactors brought me to the show, but the insight into each charactors deeper traits is what keeps me coming back. (come on! how can you beat the bat's stern, realist additude paired with superman's optimistic, outgoing & friendly additude.) (oh wait, yeah, you can beat that with gl's charactor paired to flash's... or maybe flash and wonder woman?) Anyway, Im just saying one last thing... I love the interactions between superman and batman... superman loves the bat and expresses it, the bat feels the same, only never expresses it and tries his hardest to never let it come through.
