Kevin Smith

I was a big fan of his work back in my mid-highschool years. (96-98) Now I've sorta fallen off with it. I don't really like dogma all that much, jay and silent bob strike back had it's moments, but was far too lacking in the story/plot/depth area. However, I still love clerks for its humor and style. But Ive gotta be honest, my favorite of all smith movies was hands down, "mall rats." Mall rats had something of a story, yeah, sure it was light hearted and sorta silly, but if you ask me, the humor and story make for one of the best smith films to-date. I mean, brodie really is one of his best charactors, and the antics throughout the movie (chocolate covered pretzel anyone?) made me laugh to no end. All in all, I am still a fan of smith, just not as openly as I was before chasing amy, dogma and j&s strike back. (btw, you forgot to mention chasing amy in your list of his work :D and he also did work for other comics that were not of his own creation, I forget which ones, but I'm sure of it.)

Justice League

Ok, first off, I am well aware that we are not supposed to bring back old threads. (like this one, with the last post being made a month ago.) However, I am tired of making justice league threads. (this was the second one I made) and I know that the 10 or so responses are not too much for anyone to read. So just try and bear with me on this one... As for my actual post, I wanted to talk about the justice league of course, and more specifically, yesterdays new episode. I don't know if anyone watched it, but it was interesting for sure, and one thing made it all that much more interesting to me: superman. In yesterday's episode superman had a full-on grizzly adams beard (which wonder woman was diggin') and a sword on his back. Now that superman was quite a shock to me considering the only superman I ever end up seeing is the perfect boy scout. Of course, that brings me to the week before this when superman started showing an additude and infact, starting taking charge of the group in a mean-spirited way. (it was awesome) He used his powers in unrestrained ways and gave some of us a great sense of charactor development. Basically, my comments boil down to this, justice league is great. There is charactor development, there is action and comedy. The only thing thats missing is a daily schedule of 1/2 hour shows. So what do you guys think?
3. Well, my birth father has been deceased since 1987, but I will still give a bit on him as well as my step-father.(the one I now call my father) My real father was an army man. Died as a lt. col. He was a ranger and did several other things all revolving around a base called camp perry. (if you know that base, than you may have an idea of whats up) He did several other things in the service, but in honor of not boring you all, or offending his memory, I will leave it at this... he was a good and honorable man. My step-father is also a good man, but a different one. Where as my real father graduated first in his class at john hopkins university with an engineering degree (after which he went straight to vietnam), my step father is a buisness man. He has his MBA and CPA. Graduated from VA Tech and did so without too much trouble. (although I should mention that there is a reason he didn't get too upset when I failed out of college right after highschool... he did the same thing.)(btw, Im on the right track, back in school holding a 3.5 gpa in my second year of college) Currently my father is working for a local company as something of a problem solver. He is new to the company, and before he came around, the company was in serious dissarray, now they are on track, and my father is looking at a great long term position with them. My mother... graduated from georgetown univ. traveled the world with my real father working in several different civilian personal positions for the military. However, as time went on and I was concieved, she slowed down and now serves as a stay home mom. (which she did the best job in the world with) I hope that doesn't do my parents any sort of injustice. And thanks for reading it all.
4.
Originally posted by ChibiHorsewoman the fact that he's cutting the VA hospital budget. To me these are very good reasons..
Is he really cutting the VA hospitals budget? I guess it could be possible, but at the moment, I have personally seen bush's administration do atleast 2 things off the top of my head that are directly related to veterans affairs. First on that list is my own living allowance that I get for going to school. Where it was previously *570 dollars, now it is *690 dollars. (* = approximate.) Second would be the payments my mother recieves based on my fathers death benefits. In the year 2002 her monthly payment (Im embarressed to give out the total number) went up by over 200 dollars. This is not all to say that bush could never do such a thing as cut the VA benefits. (which includes health insurance and hospital expenses there in) This was more just to ask if you could show me more about this, since I really would like to know. Maybe a link or something... I dont know, but anything would be a good start. Thanks
5.
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve I'm not rude The economy was in a regular depression. Because our economy is a capitalistic economy, on regular basis it has depressions. The economy was having a depression, after having the highest boom in years under Clinton. It was therefor due for a depression, which usuaully doesn't last long.... however, when Bush came into office, he came in during the regular depression, with his economic policies and the 9/11 attacks, well that certainly didn't help, and now it hasn't even got to where the depression was when he first came into office. Maybe when you pull your head out of your ***, you'd know that too.
Just wanted to make sure you were still with us there... I mean, if some other people have their head in, um, you know, then maybe some of the more vocal people also do. However, I also wanted to mention 2 other things... 1... your not rude? good, Im glad you mentioned it, cause I might not have noticed if I just read your post for content. :D 2. (a little economic evaluation article from cnn money. *note that this is cnn, a liberal network with no intentions of looking at the current administration in a good light.) "NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - U.S. economic growth surged in the third quarter at the fastest pace in nearly two decades, the government said Thursday, but even President Bush admitted that was unlikely to be sustained. Gross domestic product (GDP), the broadest measure of economic activity, grew at a 7.2 percent annual rate in the quarter after growing at a 3.3 percent pace in the second quarter, the Commerce Department reported. Economists, on average, expected GDP growth of 6 percent, according to Briefing.com. "This is obviously an extraordinarily strong report, led by the consumer, but also with good signs about the state of the business sector and business confidence," said Lehman Brothers economist Drew Matus. The burst of GDP growth was led by a 6.6 percent jump in consumer spending, the fastest pace since the third quarter of 1997. Consumer spending grew at a 3.8 percent pace in the second quarter. " http://money.cnn.com/2003/10/30/news/economy/gdp/ Hope that clears up the problems with recognizing how well the economy is looking compared to 2 years ago.
6. Well the economy has been on the rise for quite some time (roughly 3 or 4 quarters of growth), so hes got that going for him. As for the terrorism... Im not sure Im really going to associate that with bush... regardless of who is president, terrorism is going to be a problem. So unless someone like dean gets the nomination and says, "I plan on leaving these people alone altogether." then I doubt terror will be an issue in my vote. (btw, leaving "them" alone is a bad idea as we learned with the uss cole and 9/11) The main thing I will be looking for is discretion in a candidates views on some of the social issues that come up. I will not support a socialist candidate, but I wouln't support a candidate that opposses school vouchers. Im also not gonna support anyone who is supporting the hold-up on the current medicare reform bills. (hell even the AARP is airing tv aids to support the bill (aarp is notoriously Democrate) yet, specifically, ted kennedy (D) is oppossing this bill. So in the end I will be looking at where the candidate stands on the non-popular issues. Bush still has a good chance with me.
7. There really aren't many, but then again, the Africans who traded captured people were getting something in the trade. (not that this is how all slaves originated) However, I don't really think this is a straight forward assignment... sounds like a trick. I would write a paper about how it only benefited the evil white man:flaming:. Then your sure to get a good grade.
8. Infidelity is a touchy subject for some and for others it's a no brainer. Everyone knows it's wrong, or should know. However, I feel that infidelity and deviancy have become more acceptable in America over the last 40 years. At the current time, we've almost hit a peak in our tolerance for these behaviours. No names, but some very famous people have been caught in the act and just told that it was only a natural urge. (more or less, as the end results of all cases were always a whimpy slap on the wrist) In my personal life, I have never been unfaithful nor will I accept the idea that infidelity is at all acceptable. Infidelity is a violation and pervertion of any true relationship. I'm just sad that America today will accept this sort of behaviour as "normal."
9. Well if it's anything like the two towers, which it will be, than it should be one of the best games for the holidays. However, I would really like to see the developers address the length problems that we all saw in the two towers. Im sorry, but I just felt the two towers was far too short, and for such a great game... man! that makes the short length even worse.
10. 6 or 8 months ago, I had the energy to opine on such subjects with a vigor and passion that is no longer availible to me. I've just gotten too tired of dealing with the politics of the world. I try not to watch the news, and this helps with getting away, but video games is my best route of escape.:( A.N.S.W.E.R. (act now to stop war and end racism) is a fairly active group with predictable liberal politics. Nothing about the group draws my attention besides their own assumptions about dealing with such sensitive and age old subjects as war and racism. I think these people are more interested in themselves and their own political agendas than the plight of the real victims in the world. Oh well, and sorry to put up an opinion if it offended anyone... Just had to let the cat outta the bag didn't I.
11. Just incase no one found out yet... flcl is back on cn for some time now way late at night. Try and catch it if you can cause the humor of the show is just great... of course, that only applies to adults and those who have a really late bed time.
12. So has anyone noticed cn putting a new timing on the adult swim... I don't mean the time has changed, but actually just that the time of the program has increased. (or so it seems.) If you all notice, adult swim is still starting at the same time and is still playing the same stuff during their normal time... only now at the latest hours of the night, you can catch stuff like flcl. (at 2am my time which is 3 am est.) How great is that, I mean, giving us tons of anime every night :D awesome! The main reason I like it so much is because of all the nights where I watched the final show for adult swim and then had to watch popeye at 1 am even though I still had a 6 pack left. (rootbeer of course ;) ) So have you all noticed this or am I the only one? btw, monkey orange, I agree, more anime is always great... but then again, I really, REALLY hate mtv, so this could be a problem. Although did you guys catch the cn commercial for adult swim where they make fun of mtv... how great is that?! (I love it, damn those adult swim fellas sure are just like baseball players aren't they... either hit or miss and with the knocking on mtv, its a grand slam :D )
13. Actually in some belief systems, taking your own life is the only unforgivable sin, being that taking and giving life is for god alone, and taking your own life is, well, "giving the finger to god." :D Plus, it is selfish, but more importantly, there is something for each of us live for ... the hopes that tomorrow will be a better day. Life and Love are all the reasons I need to keep living. However, that might not be enough to show you where I come from. Just to give you a bit of my life... No woman :( Father... out of work 8+ months. 9,000 dollars of un insured car damage to 2 different vehicles. (completly immobilizing myself and family.) Both myself and bother had to come up with money for college. Working full time jobs. (bro and I) Yet we had no cars... :( but wait... there is light at the end of this tunnel. Thats right... As my family gives in, and we begin the process of moving to a small house, give up on school, and start to truely hate life, suddenly, my father gets a job (after applying for 600+ positions) only 20 miles away from home, I manage to get into a local community college, lil bro does the same at a local university, and all of this just as the debt and cost of living literally overwhelms my family. To sum this up... broke, broken hearted, and down on ourselves, my family and I wanted to give up, yet just as my family and I finally gave up, we had a total reversal of furtune. I'm sorry if this story bothers you or makes you think of stressful subjects, but I just want to hopefully show you that life swings with highs and lows... when ever you really hit the extreme of one side, things will start to swing back to the other side. However, Nothing positive can ever come to a person when all they think is negative. You may expect the worst BUT always HOPE for the BEST.
14. Phish and grateful dead. Both bands are cliched, over and under-rated by respective groups of fans/haters. Most important though, if I am asked and I acknowledge these bands as part of my music library, I will usually be stereotyped. Oh well, everyone has got there problems, and if this is the worst of mine, than my life must be nice. (this is not the worst of my problems) Oh yeah... dave mathews band. I hate all the yuppie frat boys and college girls, but I actually really like alot of the music. especially under the table and dreaming.
15. I would be puff daddy so I could shoot myself and end a world of bad music. Next would be grand master flash so I could be the godfather of rap... After that, snoop... that way it would be nothing but blunts and women :D
16. http://www.techtv.com/xplay/features/story/0,24330,3516150,00.html I will remove this if needed. I mean no harm by linking this and believe the people and great writers of xplay would be happy to see all of the otaku ps players getting in on their love for gaming once more... thanks xplay. :D This is a link to a page in which the experts at xplay explain a process to fix the Disc read error that has plagued all of us at one point. Hope some of you guys with broken playstations can take advantage of this.

Justice League

Well of course I love this show, that should be given for anyone who has a tv and has taken the time to watch the program. However, some of the more specific things I love about the show... First would be how in the more recent shows, superman has slowly shed his "nice guy" skin and fallen into a meaner fighter role. It's awesome to see superman let loose with his powers and throw down like batman would if he were the one to have such awesome powers. That takes me to my next favorite point, batman. He's awesome, he is actually better than superman in some ways. He's a "normal" human, so just being able to keep up gets him mad respect. Then there is the additude thing, I mean, if there was one person from the justice league I wouldn't wanna tangle with, it would without a doubt be batman. Dirty interigation and quick wits makes for one bad dude. (oh yeah, and hes quite the ladies man :D ) All in all, I really just love the way this show has managed to express some of the more complex charactoristics from each of these already highly developed charactors. So what do you guys think? (btw, has anyone noticed something between the bat and wonder woman? ... ok, yeah, there is definatly something between those two... I think she's got something for the tall dark hair types ;))
18.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel Hopefully this movie will the sequel that I was expecting when I saw Reloaded. What a letdown that was. Most of my excitement is gone now, but I'm sure I'll be seeing it.
My sentiments exactly... Reloaded sucked and revolutions can only hope to take away some of the damage reloaded did. I mean, a world of transitic, raver, hippies... Shoulda just stuck with the neo is a badass and smith is after him formula.

Dead or Alive

Dead or Alive Online is not really a new game, but more of a compilation. The game contains full versions of the first Dead or Alive and Dead or Alive 2, now outfitted with online play. The game was still not playable at TGS, but series creator, Tomonobu Itagaki, was on hand to give a short demo of the game, more specifically DOA 2. During character selection, Itagaki chose Kasumi as his player. There were five costumes immediately available, the best of which was a special black Xbox top and skirt. In fact, the outfit was the same one being worn by Microsoft's booth babes. For reference, check our booth babe report for some images of hot Japanese women in the said outfits here. After choosing a character, the game seemed to go into a watch mode where a battle took place, though no one was actually playing it. Visually, DOA Online is looking just as good as the beautiful DOA 3. Character models are insanely smooth, and the environments are looking just as nice...and destructible. In the trailer shown before the presentation, a level that takes place in a field of grass littered with cacti was shown, and it looked amazing. Players can even be slammed into the cacti for a bit of extra damage. And then there was Lisa's costume. In traditional quirky DOA fashion, Lisa was wearing a giant wrestling belt and a long, flowing cape with a US flag printed on it. A must-see, if you get the chance. (ign.com, Hwang) This is a qoute from an ign article by ____ hwang. Tells the story to an extent, or atleast gives us a glimpse of the future for doa. Personally, Im looking forward to this. I don't really wanna buy doa 3 with this on the horizon. So basically, now it's just a matter of waiting for doa online to come out. I should mention that one thing I've come to love about doa is the simple nature of the fighting, the awesome reversal system, the great stage designs, and the charactor designs. I've been playing tekken, soul blade, and virtua fighter since way, WAY back and in all that time I never took a look at doa. Although this may seem like bad news for doa, it's actually good. I got burnt out on all the other games. I was tired of the charactors and even dissappointed at times with the constant revisions to elements of game play that I thought were already perfect. (such as the awesome depth to lei in tekken3 and the sudden easy/cheapness of his moves in tekken tag/4.) Its almost like I had been playing test drive and need4speed all my life and then suddenly found automodelista. (although everyone on the board should know I dont waste any of my time on those games... gt3 all the way baby. ) Anyway, thanks for wieghing in on this one you guys. I would appreciate any further discussion... Im actually getting back into one of my favs, doa 2:hc. Hopefully I will see some more replys to this, but should that not happen... oh well.
20. I'm looking into fighting games for the box. I understand DOA 3 is out now. Correct? Then there is DOA online, which is coming out soon. Correct? Then there is the far off future in which DOA 4 will be coming. (fall 2004 I believe) I wondered what you guys thought of DOA 3 in all aspects of game quality from charactors to control schemes. Is it worth getting, or should I pick up online when it comes out? Any comparisons with other Xbox fighters are welcome, all though I must admit that Im not really looking into getting a copy of SCII since I already got tired of whipping the ps2 version. Thanks for any discussion, this should help me quite a bit.
21.
Originally posted by James Are you sure you've never heard the term "Neo-Nazi Conservative"? I've heard it plenty.
I just wanted to mention that in America throughout my stint with politics, I've seen "neo-nazi conservative" used more often than I would like to see. I think it's related to the natural negativity of anything using the word nazi, in combo with political name calling. However, on the dating subject... I would never let my ideal of politics get in the way of my personal relationships. My last relationship caused me to think this over, I was dating a person who was inclined to express opinions, but never interested in the facts surrounding the issue. (not even the ocassional news broadcast.) I didn't let it get to me and we never had discussion on that level of dialouge. Then again that thing died quickly, so maybe everything works itself out on its own. ;)
22. Yeah, I have times, but they aren't in my mind at the moment. I ran them that next night but never posted to avoid double post. (didnt think an edit would be noticed since the thread never moves back up or notifies the active posters.) I will have you a time soon enough. Right now is actually a funny time. Im currently in a major race. Let me see if I can link it to you real quick. http://www.lecoyote.net/gtweb/forum/viewforum.php?f=12&sid=a113b7fbb1cf53a30f7bf895593dceea This should lead to the page of the host site for the latest bc3. (board challenge 3) These really are some of the fastest racers in the world. You must have a replay device to play. Like I mentioned before, I made it into this comp. for my boards team. team gtp. (who placed last in bc2, we hope that will change this year.) Check out some of those races if you wanna get on a measuring stick. I am racing in the 9th race. Z concept at ssr5 II. I will come back with times for this race as soon as I can. Glad to see you still had interest. Try these settings and tell me what you get. 6.0/18.0 springs lowest ride hieght then move the front approx. 10 higher than rear. 10 for all rebound and bound 1.9/1.2 camber 0/-1 toe 5/7 stabilizers 22/24 brakes 5/5/5 lsd tranny at proper auto slider setting down force: rear should be marked just to the left of the front asm: 0 tcs: prefference This should take away understeer and put down some nasty oversteer. If it doesn't oversteer enough, just mention it, there is still more possible tuning to make this car oversteer. Tell me how the times go asap. Thanks,
23. Im with tn on this one. Its just a constitutional issue and if anyone can start a black, hispanic, native american or asian american club, then whites also MUST be allowed to do the same. This is not a nation where we can have some constitutional rights permitted and not allow others. Its an all or non package and just like everything else in the world, you get some bad with the good. btw, props to tn for keeping on the side of fair in this. ( I should also mention that I do not at all support this club and infact think its a shame. But I still believe it must be allowed.)

Teen Titans!

Anyone else watch this show from time to time. It's funny and has some good action. I like it quite a bit for a day of cartoon network that doesn't have much besides Kenshin. What do you guys think? The charactors expressions are priceless.
25.
Originally posted by quietstranger16 well, its homecoming season yet again. time for homecoming dances/carnivals/parades. i'm especially frustrated this year. I'm a junior, and i feel i need to go to the dance. all my friends have dates or people they want to ask, and i haven't even thought it about it till now. the dance is in two weeks, and i think i know a person(or two) i could ask, but i dont know if she'll say "yes, i actually was hoping you'd ask" or "no, get away from me you sick freak!" anybody else feeling the blues?
Well, I know exactly how you feel. I was the quiet stranger all of highschool. Girls didn't like me till out I was out of highschool. (although they may like you now and you just might not have the confidence to see it) However, know that your not alone. I was in your boat all the time and the only times I got to go to dances like homecoming was when a girl who was a friend went with me, or when that girl would find me a date. Don't be down on yourself and know this... You are better off asking this girl to the dance. I know how hard it is, I really do, but the possible negative results are far outwieghed by the possible positive results. Its like a lottery with acceptable odds. 1 dollar for a life time of free money. 1 question for a weekend of happiness. Good luck my friend and know that if you manage to put it all on the line and ask this girl, you will have millions of men like me (in spirit) backing you and donating confidence to no end. Do it, thats all I can say. However, should you end up not asking anyone... dont be hard on yourself, the rest of us can tell you it leads to nowhere and nothing good. ( and when I say "us" Im talking about the guys backing you, not just the random otaku board member.) Good luck and god be with you. YOU CAN DO IT! ;)
