1. Ummm... can you guys use the spoiler tag and mention who the death was in ova number 4? Thanks, I just have got to know now that it was mentioned.
2.
Originally posted by ianthestampede juna, i don't think it was a comic was it? wasn't it donald duck? question: the tigris and eufratis(not sure if this is spelled right) rivers are located in what country? (the press was invented before this persons contribution, although he is often credited with inventing the printing press... when in actuality he invented "movable medal type.") Good luck.
3. Well... the game is great. It boils down like this... Pick your side, federation or zeon. Play in 3 modes, arcade, .vs., and the great campaign mode. Campaign is the highlight of the game. Play over 100 missions with either side, each mission being different and both sides having different missions to play. I have beaten the campaign with the federation and it was totally worth it. The availible gundams are all from the original gundam show and 08th ms team. I wish there were more here who had tried this game. Extended play said that this was the one gundam game worthy of being an actual gundam game. They also said it was good enough for non-anime fans to get into. Go rent it or check it out some how... it is worth it.
4. I would say that guys doing the eye brow thing is acceptable. The body hair thing is a personal choice that is also acceptable, but a little less main stream. The makeup thing... ummm, no, I dont think that is too cool, but still acceptable. All in all, I would say none of these things make you gay or strange, just excentric. (sp?)
5. No actually it is a time travel belief in which you find one timeline does not affect another. Sorta like what they use in dragonball z. In inuyasha, it boils down to 2 time lines. timeline A. Kagome's original timeline. Timeline B. Inuyasha's timeline. When Kagome traveled to inuyahsa's timeline, it only affected his timeline, not hers since the two timelines are not connected. Think of it like 2 identical trains running on different tracks that look the same. (when you do that, you can realize that when one train turns, the other doesnt have to turn with it... they are on seperate tracks.) Thats about the best I can do in explaining this.
6. This game is awesome. I want to know what you guys think. Who has played it? How far did you get? What held you up? What did you not like? and What tips can you give a newbie to the game? Thanks... I will be back to give a formal review of the game.
7. Well a couple of things I can say about Alexander are... 1. The idea of Alexander being gay is theory. There is nothing to actually support it anymore than there is to disprove it... So although some people love to talk about that idea, I would avoid it if you are on a intellectual level of honesty... note: that this does not exclude the debate involved in a research paper. (its up to you) 2. Did you knokw that all of the cities created by alexander were called alexandria? Yup, infact the idea of alexandria being only one city is due to the fact that once alexanders riegn ended all those he had conquered went back to their old ways. I guess going any further with this would be silly... but let me give you one huge peice of hipocritcal advice... Dont listen to a single person on the boards when doing projects/papers for school. Even when we (the members) have the best of intentions, we can mess things up. Sorry.
8. This could be an intresting discussion... just depends on how often it is asked. I dont personally remember it coming up in the last... well, I dont know how long, but its been long enough for me to forget it. Video games are violent, I will be the first to admit it. However, I dont think that video games are the cause of violence. Problems from other areas of society are the trouble when it comes to violence... video games are just a reflection of the the world they are created in. I would say games are no more responsible for violence than the news... back soon with more.

Anim

Actually, they all look very much alike. (parents and children of any name or show) Why is it... oh I cant think of it... oh thats it, they are all drawings. just kidding. I know what you were trying to point out, but it is just a show. However, that is not what I like to say, I would rather point out that parent/child similarities are the least of anime short comings... I think a bigger problem with anime short comings are the things my parents asked me about; "why do they all look like europeans people even though they are suppossed to be japanese"? That was when I first got into it, and my parents are not racist or anything crazy like that. Its just a simple point that when you look at say, kenshin or dbz, a great deal of charactors have very, very light complections and often times... long thin noses, lightly colored hair, and light eyes. Its all part of charactor distinction. We need to make all of the charactors unique, and you cant do that when every last person looks almost the exact same. Good luck with the answers to your questions and even more luck to you in hopes that this will lead to a long term discussion.
10.
Originally posted by Justin I wish you'd stop doing that. You're very quick to jump on someone else who so boldly makes an aggravating statement when it aggravates you, yet you refuse to curtail your own. I say that with respectful honesty. The fact of the matter is, no form of government or economy will ever be completely perfect. "Why?" you ask? Because it's run by the human race; and I hope we've all figured out by now that no one in the entire human race is perfect. -Justin
This is a good reply to what tn said, but I think it would have also benefited from a bit more of the insulting and ingnorant tone that tn himself put forth. Basically though, I think you 100% right on, its a problem to make such obviously radical and insulting statments until an un-named, above the rules, member/mod. wants to make such a statment... then its ok for anything to be said, as long as it is bashing the "right." And unfortunatly, there is no way around this stuff, what has been said, has been said. I dont think any sort of retractions will occurr and I dont think an apology would ever be given. (lord knows apologies are never needed when your "only stating the truth...lol.") I guess I could easily flame this up and show some of my feelings, but I think I will do what the un-named moderator couldn't, and avoid insulting and inflamitory speech.
11. Yea... I watch the unleashed... Its ok, I really only liked the dual series. Usually the show is so late I just want pretty pictures, no story. I guess I should give the others a try- oh well.
12. Well I gotta say that the qoute from tn, by justin... well... it was intresting to say the least. "no comment" *in response to earlier comments* However, I thought it would be a good point to make that right now in America there is something bordering on socialism already in place. The public education, the welfare and the government aid programs (in places such as education, job training and disastor relief) There has been no legitimate standard set in the past to establish what a government must provide to be differentiated between a socialist nation and nation which simply governs the people. I say that only with the confidence the entire world has not yet created a system of government that actually provides for all... not just in theory, but a system that has actually delivered. With the idea of no government actually delivering, it becomes a question, to me, of how close a country to actually taking care of the majority of its people. I dont know if something like that will ever be done, but I believe that right now, the nations of the world, in all of their socialist ideology have still failed to provide a fully developed system to care for the people of a country. -rambling... back to america- America to some extent provides a semi-socialist system. Welfare, public education, "progressive taxation" (which it does no matter what is said... the poor of america do pay minimal taxes compared to the middle and upper class) All of those three subjects and practices are part of the socialist structure created by carl marx. I have to go to work right now, but this thread just blew up on me over night with intelectual stim. so I just might be back.
13. LoL... This topic couldnt get any better. Basically, capitalism is the basis one of the most important systems ever created... writing. Thats right. Go check it out yourself, look up the first civilizations/mesopatania. This is what happend... people all stored their crops yeilded during the growing season in one huge place. Eventually people realized that they were putting in certain amount, but the cheiftons were giving it out as they pleased and not giving it back to the people who worked to grow it. Inturn, the "farmers" decided a system of record keeping was needed, and the birth of the words first written code came about - cuniform. This was all due to the fact that those who worked, wished to prosper from their efforts and not allow their work to be redistributed at the wishes of another party. This "redistibution" of wealth is the very basis of socialism, and is the cause of a major problem. (for those people.) Basically, good will is not bad, it is the greatest thing in the world. But forcfully taking and redistributing wealth is a aweful way to create a better society. Infact, it can easily lead to hostilities and more importantly, the mis-managment of our hard earned monitary units. I really dont like getting into political ideological debates here on the boards due to the often mis and un-inform nature of a great deal of younger members... However, I do believe that socialism is a well intended, poorly formed thought. Remember the soviet union always... remember the 10 million North Koreans who had died due to the socialist system called communism. Remember most importantly, that at the heart of all communist/socialist systems that have worked, were people who wished to be involved. Forcing people creates hostility. Socialism forces people to give who would, could or have already given on their own. I also want to remind you of a qoute... "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." (unknown) Basically, I believe in capitalism, and I also know for a fact that a society can be socialist while still remaining a capitalist society. I also want to remind everyone of a place where communism works very well... the monistaries of mid-evil Ireland. Another interesting thought would be to revise you topics thesis... Down with capitalism is a totally different subject than discussing the theoretical benefits of socialism.
14. Well maybe its the "anti-fruedian" ideology, but I think the "would you use your powers for good or evil," question to be un-nessacery. I totally think that everyone is a good person and there is only one way the members of this board would go with that decision. Good. As for which power I would like, I would have "unlimited chi control." This is sorta a new phrase to me, I just wanted a way to say... the idea of controlling and having infinite supply of the theortical energy that exist in us all according to some belief systems. Dragonball z does a good job of showing most of the possibilities. I would use them specifically for my own purposes of flying. Flying must be the most amazing thing you could ever imagine for a fun ride. What I would do with them? I can only say that I would persue what I saw to be just causes and anything that would honestly result in the "betterment of mankind." Oh yeah, x ray vision all the way... good call on that one, person from above.
15. I dont know much about the game, but I am almost sure that you can play as more than one of the fighters. Infact, they aren't the charactors from the first movie... kinda threw me off the game, but it still looks cool.

Trigun

Well in these last few episodes I am sensing a new element in trigun. This is the emotion of the show. As the season continues, I see more and more why others have said that trigun had this sort of saddness. I would personally say that it is shaping up to be like g gundam in a way... the first half of the series is good but the second half is great. (although its slightly different for g gundam in that it is split ok/good) Eitherway, I am just really suprised by trigun and its really because of the feelings that are being put out there due to the climatic appearance of knives and his henchmen... that and the death of a good friend from the series. all in all, Im just gonna have to watch and wait. But I gotta say, I am also starting to like a bit of the music from the show.
17. Intresting point shy, I have many charctors I like, infact, too many to name. But at risk of wasting your and my time, I will give a short list. In no particular order... Gokou for his kindness and pure-heartedness. (kenshin for this same sort of reason, only different because of the 'redemption factor.') Hold on: I realize now that a great deal of what I love about specific charactors, has to do directly with the relationship surrounding them. Tetsuo because he reminds me of my little brother. Kaneda for a similar reason... he represents in many ways the frustrations of an older brother. The overall charactor development in the movie "AKIRA" was amazing. The relationship between kaneda and tetsuo was really something that made akira stand out on any level. Another relationship/ charactor combo I have fallen in love with was the combo of inuyasha and kagome. I absolutly love the relationship these two have and that relationship is most likely the reason I watch inuyasha. (cant wait for new eps.:D) I also want to stress that its not relationship alone that make me love a certain charactor... Wolfwood... true redemption... I honestly missed wolfwood when it was time to say goodbye and the thing that bothered me was the way I didnt care for him all that much before the "events." Another charactor that comes to mind is ryoko because of the way she reminds me of a lost love... One impossibly wonderful love. I will never forget how ryoko said to tenchi that the circus will always come back if you are patient. Well... thats about it for my quick list. *maybe it wasnt so quick*
18. ahh, the holy crusade... christians versus muslims. It is totally relivant to this discussion. Think about it... bush on a "holy crusade" to rid the world of the peace loving muslim extremist is almost identical to the story of robin hood and in general, completly mimics the reasons for and actions of terrorism. I would say that robin hood was the greatest terrorist of all time. He killed the innocent at every turn, and flat out stated his only goal was the destruction of those who did not believe in his own ideologies. He redistributed the wealth of the rich and saw fit to replace the head of state. If I didnt know better I would say terrorist are good people... oh wait, I guess with "dubya" being a crusading terrorist, it just might be true... terrorist are good people.
19.
Originally posted by Change *SIGHS VERY DEEPLY* Yeah I guess he is. As is Dubya, he puts terror and fear into my heart. Nothing like the thought of Supream Court Justice apponites, the Patriot Act, and another looming war in the middle east/ N.K. to win reelection, to freeze my blood.
Now this is what makes me frightened... Political opinions from this sort of view. Actually, Im just playing. However, I would say robin hood was more of a rebel than a terrorist... He didnt kill, he stole. Plus with the story itself, there are extenuating circumstances that change the "rules." Oh well, I figure this is gonna lead back to politics and g. bush and not robin hood. I gotta say though, since "dubya" came into office, I havent had anything done to me... oh yea, a major heart break when I watched 3,000 people die. I also would like to see who g. w. bush appointed to the supreme court... I dont remember that happening... oh well. I also thought it would be a good point to mention that I was totally against voting for bush until he nuked north korea. I mean, that is a great way to win an election... as he learned from his father... I mean, its not like there is a legitimate reason to fight the extremist muslims or the violators of human rights, and oh yea, those fellas that fail to uphold their end of a nuclear non-proliferation treaty created by our great and honorable Mr. I mean, former president clinton. Um yea, thats about it. Thanks for reading though... And remember, robin hood didnt kill indiscriminatly... he stole from the "rich, oppressive, elitist, leadership of a midevil cast system society."
20. Yea, urination and best of all... a vegetarian getting a pig intestine shuved down her throat... If you as me, that sort of stuff is battery. If the victims did not consent specifically to those actions and did not knkow those actions would take place, then the students who performed those actions should have consequences placed on them. I also think hazing is just about as stupid as you can get. Also, I would never think of taking part in this sort of stuff, so I cant have that much pity for the victims... but when you cross the line like the sadistic jerks that pulled these stunts... well, I think you deserve the worst punishments you can get. I also just found out that a girl had her head split open... Assualt and battery all the way.
21. In many of our favorite shows we find tragedy, it is part of what draws us into a story on an emotional level. This thought is prompted by the constant torment on my soul from series like cowboy bebop. Well, a new series can be added to this group of shows that create heartache- trigun. I didnt fall into the emotional side of trigun until tonight. With
the death of wolfwood.
This killed me. It was right up there with the end of cowboy bebop... of course, maybe it wasn't at that level, but it really did make me want to just cry. The depression set in on me... I actually wanted to believe it didnt happen in trigun, just as others have felt with cowboy bebop. I had to go on a search just to find out if it was true... to my saddness, it was. I want to know what you guys think about these tragedies in our favorite animes. Do you think it is needed to make a good show? Is it possible to achieve the same emotional content without the tragedy? So name the other shows that you feel this way about if you want and please opine on any other elements that you would like to. Well, I can say now that I really love the shows, but I also hate to see the tragedy of them. It is just depressing, flat-out. Oh yea, please dont ruin the ends of these series for those of us waiting to finish them. Even with spoiler tags, its hard not to read them. Thanks for the read, -kent
22. If I was you I would read a book, or poem I should say, that I very much enjoyed called "paradise lost" by john milton. Its old and really a difficult book, but totally worth it with this sort of stuff in mind. I also wanted to mention that I have seen many, many, places where the term satan directly translates to the term "enemy." But yeah, if your interested in this go do some paradise lost research. It tells the story of the devil being cast out, planning his revenge with his "generals" (If I can call them that) and continues onto the story of adam and eve. It is a great epic poem and a really good book for those interested in theology. Written in the 1600's it is hard to understand at times, but footnotes in a good copy can take care of that no problem. Also if your interested in these subjects of heaven and hell, there are dozens of other books, but one book that has influenced our ideas of an afterlife (christian wise) would have to be "the inferno" by dante. This book is a series of three books called the "divine comedy" in which dante tells the story of a "purgatory." Go check this stuff out, because with the subject of your manga, you will probably want to know all you can about where souls go, what happens to them, who the devil is, and what happend between him and god. So to recap... Starters for really getting into this stuff are... the bible paradise lost dantes inferno All will help you greatly, unfortunatly, by the time you finish those, you might have lost interest in the manga all together...:D Sorry. But good luck.
23. LoL... I like it, not that you are gonna feel less intelligent, just that you were totally joking. My bad, I should have looked into it more closly, I mean, duh. I know enough about you to know you would never say something like that and honestly mean it. Although, you sorta had me since I know you are smart. Go figure, looks like Im the dummy now :D
24.
Originally posted by Lady Macaiodh I forgot to mention that I'm an incredibly talented genius. I don't know if that counts as a personality trait or innate characteristic, but yeah, I like that. Though it does get annoying always being the most intelligent person in the room. Heh.
Now, that sounds like something a person from "gifted and talanted" would say. I know your a good person lady mac. but it just sounded bad in a way, in that, those are the sorts of statments my parents were afraid of my brother and I saying... That is why neither my brother or myself were allowed to know the results of our I.Q. test until we were old enough to be mature about it, and the same reason that our parents never allowed us into the elitest training facilities called "gifted and talanted programs." Like I said, I know your not some stuck up snob, but I just thought it was an odd statment.
25. Well, phisically... I would have to say two things... one is a object and one is a charactoristic. My eyes are something I like about myself, as they are light blue and many ladies from my past have loved them. The other thing I like is the fact that my capabilities are often underestimated due to my size. (Im a fat ***) In the past, all who were in competition with me during any sort of phisical event, found themselves suprised and, in the end, playing the fool. I am very flexible and that flexibilty allows me to be far more quick than anyone estimating me based on my size would expect. As for my personality, I dont know... Im a jerk. :D
