As a smoker myself, I'm not happy with the increase in taxes. No, not because it raised my price overall, but due to the purpose behind the tax. Here in Indiana, we got hit twice. First, the federal increase, then the state increase. What once cost me $38 is now $48, and climbing. For what? To pay the health care costs for those who can't afford it. It stuns me to think I've got to pay for everyone and myself. Where the hell is my relief when my health insurance costs 15% more every year? Add a family, and it gets expensive. If this tax was for everyone, and my health care costs are obliterated, then I'm all for it. But to specifically target a group of people is crap. I'm looking at the horizon for a quit date. It's just hard to fathom paying nearly $50 a week for this habit, all the while my salary remains stagnant and my bonus was obliterated. I'm sure glad those 19 year old baby factories and their children are covered by our tax money while we struggle to pay it. Next rant to get me upset: broadband caps.

All female underwear is white (as seen through action scenes) until outer garments are removed and said underwear changes colors, has bows, frills, or lace. - various Every teen, new to mech, knows how to "drive" it. - various It takes 26 episodes for a pansy male lead to express his feelings to a girl he likes all the while whining. - Suzuka, various Haruhi Suzumiya is the best drawn anime character I've ever seen and remains my inspiration to do better digital art. - Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Prodigy students always leave to the United States after high school. Azumanga Daioh, Clannad, others. Japanese girls are the strongest humans on earth, able to kick/hit 300lb men, in one shot, through walls. - various, especially with no magic, armor, etc. Japanese men, who aren't in the spotlight (leading character) have eye problems, given most, if not all, wear glasses. - various (side note: they also discretely flip you off when adjusting them) An explosion's sound concussion always points upward, as this never seems to kill anyone (dodging the flames) within yards of detonation. - various Space travel between planets happens within hours, not years. Minutes if using warp/jump gates. -various Flamboyant hair color is never discussed, until said color turns blond (or is blond). - various (okay, I know why this is, but it's still comical) There are 20 cats for every 1 Japanese. The only 4 items a Japanese can eat are: fish, rice, curry, and miso soup. Bread is used for bag filling only, unless it's of the melon variety. - various

Clannad: After Story contains two death scenes which, to this day, still bring tears to my eyes.
The first is with Nagisa's death during childbirth due to her unknown illness. But the worst is Ushio's death. Bring tissue, because you're going to need it. While not a "death" per se, I was also moved by Fuko's appearance in Clannad, disturbed by her removal in the credits in After Story, but happy because she wakes up and befriends Ushio. Note about the ending: Um, yeah. YOU figure it out.
;)
i'm not sure where to begin.
I always wonder why people don't give a complete listing of what they have seen. This would make it easier for us to offer recommendations. Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (12 eps) is a good show about a girl who controls the world, but doesn't know it. A little slow, but entertaining. Shakugan no Shana, but the story isn't all great. Watch it for the animation style. Good action scenes, but not the best. Lots of talking instead of killing rhetoric. Anime Network has been running Clannad (no dub). Rather enjoyable so far. Might be too slow if you're looking for action. Full Metal Panic was a surprise for me, given I despise mech anime. Action, comedy, and just enough mech action to blend it all together. Alas, this is far as I go without knowing the shows you've seen.
Out of these choices, FMA, Bleach and (though I regret to report it) Naruto are ongoing, with enough material on the way to keep people interested in discussion.
Double-edged sword, as part of the problem is these topics are everywhere. I didn't see an option to discuss future anime/manga releases (still navigating the site), so I voted for Fruits Basket. This show made me laugh out loud.

New Members: Introduce Yourselves Here
EyesOfHaruhi replied to Charles's topic in General Discussion
*bows* Hello, anime and manga fans. I'm a new member. Found the site by doing a Google search. It's been a long time since I've joined a forum site, so please allow me some time to adjust. I've opted to display my age to help with communication. I'm not a fan of "LOL" speak, but I do try to adapt. So please don't attack me if I make an accidental comment. Educate first, then attack. :) I've been watching anime off and on since the days of VHS (those large cassette-like things to the younger crowd) and it's nice to see DVD series increase in availability. You can say I "recently" returned, but that's only part of it. Taking advantage of a recent sale, I've quite a few titles to watch. As you probably can tell from my username and avatar, I found one I like. :) I'm a fast typist, which leads me to being a bit verbose at times. If this gets annoying, feel free to let me know. I'm currently self teaching myself Japanese, so this should be an interesting summer. For those doing the same, my PM box is open. Just started Kana, so I'm no expert. Consider me at level 0. Thanks for welcoming me, and I hope to enjoy great conversations and exchanges of topics. -
