Afros are the shiznit- Cowboy Bebop, Bo BoBo, DBZ
Don't forget Nabeshin. Afro Attack!! Also, people not important to the current event usually lack facial features. Sometimes you only see dark silhouettes, sometimes they turn into random animals or dolls.

Anime What are You Watching/Reading Now?

The Dark Tower idea is great, and I bet it would be even popular in Japan because of its otherworldly storyline and setting. Unfortunately, not many great science fiction works have been transferred to the big screen successfully... the Hyperion saga deserves something like that, for instance... Also, how can you watch something starting from a random episode? That's like opening a book right in the middle. Some postmodernists may argue that it's the right idea, I however don't think so. Fortunately Code Geass doesn't contain much in terms of humour. It does have a lot of tragedy and pathos, which go overboard at times and still manage to remain awesome. Also, I like the ruthlessness with which all the whiny goody two-shoes are treated. You know when you want some characters to shut up and die? They do here, in nasty ways. The ending's sort of a pity, but it fits almost perfectly. Currently I'm watching Mushi-Shi again. A unique experience. Also, when I need to relax somewhat, I watch an episode of Pani Poni Dash. Also great;) -

Real Drive. It's beautiful at times... but Minami is just awful. It's one of those characters that makes you want to see them get brutally murdered for their retardation. Obviously she didn't get a cyber-brain because the doctors found out she doesn't have an organic one, either. I'm continuing to follow Higashi no Eden (gets even wierder) and Hatsukoi Limited (not bad, makes me laugh sometimes), too. -
The anime recently caught my attention, and since it isn't complete (as usual...) I began to look for the manga. It seems the manga is still ongoing, but it's not being scanlated? Or am I mistaken? I don't really know any specific places where I can find it...

People are stubborn here, they don't even try to understand anime. In the best of cases, they'll say "look, I see that anime has lots of great stuff, but it's just not my thing". Nearly all my friends are like that. I find that an introduction to anime is possible when the person has already seen and liked at least one series. 2Magus, that was the same for me. I believe NGE was my first anime. Even my experienced otaku friend told me he was surprised I wasn't disgusted for eternity... NGE is something I wouldn't ever recommend to someone to introduce them.

I've also been wondering about the organization's pupose. Their reach seems almost incredible. Also, why does Juiz tell both of those "Chosen" agents to "continue being a saviour of the people"? Might be the translation, but it has a certain masonic flair.

To comment on the previous posts,
I actually liked Shirley (even though she looked weak in comparison to most people around her), but I didn't think her death was particularly sad. Let me explain why: it brought one of the best moments of the show. When Lelouch turns to Rolo with a smile and says "...Well done." That was... powerful (same with how he acts with Euphy), and it eclipsed the fact that she was dead. Since all characters in the series serve one purpose - to highlight various facets of the main character - she served hers both in life and in death admirably.
Yeah, well, there's the tough, mature woman (Motoko Kusanagi), and then there's Revy... Seriously, I don't think she's very likeable. Not that I'm trying to convince anyone, but honestly I was a bit shocked. Also, I've heard things are even more rough in the manga. Is that true? Is there any relatively positive progress in the characters?.. Sorry about the swear filter. Didn't use a space btw, I usually self-censor using one *.

Any problem can be solved by rushing in blindly, oblivious to the consequences. If the consequences strike back, just rush them again. - Just about any anime :animesigh It's always a good idea to comment on your defender's use of fighting styles and special moves even though by that time you should be praying for your life. - Rurouni Kenshin (TV), Inuyasha. The more numerous of the two opposing armies suffers from the imperial stormtrooper syndrome. - Any anime with a more or less large-scale action scene.
Kenshin,
of course. The OVAs were heart-wrenching.
Next time use spoilers for people who have yet to actually see the show. Thanks. ~Aaryanna

Am I the only person on this planet who loves the show but hates Revy? Or, should I say, I hate the author who made the female lead a sadistic psycho killer *****. She doesn't have any redeeming qualities at all and therefore is not likeable. She's not an antihero, she's a villain by all standards. Sure, she does get a little more human in the second season (through very slight development of her relationship with Rock), but it's not enough to make her likeable. I certainly hope the thrid season will change that, because otherwise I love the series.
Don't bypass the swear filter by using spaces. Thanks. ~Aaryanna

Have to finish Mugen no Ryvius... but I'm going to start Gunslinger Girl now. -
This one was excellent. It takes the expression "over the top", tramples it and throws it out of the window, because it fails to describe what happens. Makes you wanna shout GIGA... DRILL... BREEEAK!!! at people :animesmil The music was great, too (Taku Iwasaki rules).

This one might just turn out to be good. It's Kenji Kamiyama, after all. The Ghibli-style female lead is kind of... unsettling? Well, she may just turn out to be a unique character, you never know. Maybe we'll even see good action scenes... We can only hope the show won't turn out to be a disaster like Rideback.

Yukino Satsuki, no competition there. She excels in every role (Kaname from FMP, Saki from Genshiken, Ai from Planetes, Kagome from Inuyasha to name a few). I also like Junko Noda (Kitsune from Love Hina, Reki form Haibane Renmei) and Aya Hirano (Haruhi). I don't really have a favourite male seiyu... maybe Jun Fukuyama (Lelouch), his voice definitely contributed to the greatness of his character. (again, I haven't watched that much stuff, so this list is limited for the time being)

Hey everyone. I've spent quite some time trying to find a cozy anime community, and it looks like I've found what I wanted ;) I haven't been an anime addict for long (in fact, I'm not quite sure I qualify for the otaku title), since '07 in fact. My personal favourites would be FLCL, Ergo Proxy, Ghost in the Shell, the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Full Metal Panic, Love Hina, Planetes, Cowboy Bebop, REC, Elfen Lied, Code Geass, Kino no Tabi, Haibane Renmei, Gurren Lagann, InuYasha, Genshiken (in no particular order, since each has its own unique qualities - these are just the top favs). I do enjoy the occasional cute comic nonsense (like Umishou). I dislike annoying characters (those without common sense and any redeeming qualities) and I have a general mistrust of long-running series (Inuyasha being the only one I've watched) and extremely popular series (I've been awfully disappointed a couple of times... Fullmetal Alchemist and Death Note, I'm lookin' at you). Apart from watching anime, I play tabletop RPGs (and wargames), as well as lots of video games. I also enjoy learning languages (nothing better than the feeling of accomplishment when you're able to understand and communicate), and yes, Japanese is proving to be a really fun challenge (it's only my second year though). I hope that I'll be able to stay and contribute to this fine community. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.
