The only real answer I can think of is this: http://21stcenturydigitalboy.wordpress.com/2007/11/05/just-a-21st-century-digital-boy/
Diebuster was released in 2004, if that was what you were getting at, and it stands on its own. Just a suggestion though, if you liked TTGL! :)

My family doesn't really have a special tradition, other than gathering with family. But Thanksgiving is possibly my favorite holiday, because I love to cook and I love traditional Thanksgiving food. This year my family is hosting the get-together so I'm pretty much in charge of cooking everything. :) I love leftover Thanksgiving food, too. I always take leftover turkey and bake it in the oven with provolone on bread and make yummy sandwiches.
**** god. God doesn't have the power that he could have created Gurren Lagann.
Oh come on, this is God's answer to anime fans asking for an awesome series. I mean it - this is God's answer to what good anime should be. Its that good.
Well, clearly. It's also half-nonsense, which is equally awesome. :)
Kamina made up for about 50% of the show's goodness. I don't care if he died.

Repeat thread from 2006, but whatever. :p Basically, just try and pick your favorite web comics and provide examples (without stretching the layout), and then explain why you like the ones you've picked. Here I go: xkcd Some of my friends made me start reading this web comic, and I'm so glad I did. It's a perfect blend of nerdy math/science and humor, and I love how hilarious it can be with just stick figures. I think any nerd would like this web comic; when I first read the example provided I laughed out loud with my friends for about five minutes straight. Married to the Sea (Those aren't even the great ones, I just had to pick them because they didn't stretch the layout. If you think these are funny, you must check the website out.) Words cannot explain Married to the Sea. Every single one makes me laugh out loud; I have no idea where they get these pictures, but all of their comics are genius. I love them too much. Some of the funniest commentary and 'dub' comics are there.
For the most part, you seem to be missing a key element here: this was a civil, not criminal lawsuit, which carries a whole different set of issues. They were not issued a fine; those were punitive damage for the harm they did to the family.
I concede, but $10.9 million is still overkill. What does someone do when they only have $1 million in assets?

I go to school anyways so I won't get parking taken away from me. >_> But during weekends or the summer I alternate between sleeping and watching television. I use my parents' bed, which is in front of a smallish tv, and I drift between napping and waking up to some awesomely bad show on VH1 or MTV. I limit my diet to either 1) chicken noodle soup, or 2) pears.

>:D Yes, more GL fans! No one can deny the allure of Yoko AND Kamina in the same series.
The law in Utah that Aaryanna was talking about ended up enacted due to issues with members from different gangs showing up at funerals to heckle people just for the fun of it. They didn't even know the person or family who had died, so the requirement to keep their distance was considered a reasonable limit as far as being at a funeral goes. We have similar laws about picketing the government, abortion clinics, the homes of those who work in such places. In each of those, so long as a reasonable distance is kept the protests are allowed, so I really do not see how having similar space for the families having a funeral would be unconstitutional.
I'm assuming that this law is not federal then, and it can't really be applied to this case. I support this kind of legislation, to an extent, but unfortunately it can't be used against the Westboro Baptist Church.
-
Actually, in that context, we have every right to say we think this shouldn't be allowed, constitutionally we have the right to say we think the first amendment shouldn't allow this kind of harassment. Saying that how we feel about it doesn't matter isn't correct. And who's to say it's bending the constitution? We haven't denied them the right to have their opinion. We're vocally saying that we believe they are violating the privacy of other individuals by protesting at a funeral of all things.
Of course you do. I overstepped my bounds by saying 'most everyone', but to those who say the church isn't protected by the constitution, I remain firm. And I'm saying that the constitution always override any other law; they may be violating privacy, but that's weak compared to the power of the first amendment. The constitution may not be absolute, but it holds precedence any other separate federal or state law. People will confuse their feeling with justice, which is never supposed to happen.
No one is saying they can't protest, we're saying that in a non-public setting, which is what a funeral is, they should be required to keep their distance, even if that distance is just outside the funeral grounds. Even protesting the government is the same, since when were they allowed to go inside the white house? They protest outside and are required to keep a reasonable distance. Honestly how hard is this concept for people to grasp here?
I didn't read anything about it, but were the Westboro Baptists violating the ban on distance? Was the funeral public? As far as I know, it is not protected by the Respect of America's Fallen Heroes Act, as it was no under control of the National Cemetary Administration. If it was, the maximum fee is $100,000, not $10.8 million. "Alarmed by Westboro protests, at least 22 states have proposed or enacted laws to limit the rights of protesters at funerals. Only months after Matthew Snyder's death, Maryland passed a law prohibiting targeted picketing within 300 feet of a funeral, burial, memorial service or funeral procession." Doesn't that imply that states never had rules against this sort of stuff before? What are the specifications of your mentioned ban? Did it include funerals?
Go and read the ban, it's not against protesting it's against doing so on the actual property or within 300 feet of said property. The idiots can protest all they want, they just have to keep their distance like you have to do at any protest regardless of the reason. :animesigh We have the same law here in Utah, they can protest they just can't get in your face on the funeral grounds to do so. If the president is protected from someone walking right into his office, then why the hell should the rest of the public be denied the same treatment?
I searched the thread and I didn't find a link to the ban specifics. If you could provide one (I might have missed it), I'd gladly read it. As a personal note, I'm arguing for the sake of showing two sides. My heart is not in everything I say, but I'm also not going to act like the Westboro Baptist Church has no strength whatsoever in their appeal. They do, and that's undeniable. Of course the 1st Amendment has limitations of obscene language, but it usually pertains of things of a pornographic nature.
This was not a public figure; it was a young man who died in the line of duty to his country, and the protesters were not protesting his funeral, but the morals of this country.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." There is nowhere in the constitution that says you have to protest public figures in order to invoke your right to the first amendment. If you have some sort of constitutional proof to back up what you're saying, I'll concede, but the first amendment doesn't say anything about that.
Just because you have the abillity to say something does not mean you have the right. The First Amendment was written so that citizens would not have their voices taken away by a government they disagreed with, not so they can be ***-holes. If a group wants to protest it's government's stand on ethics, then let them do it in front of a legislative building or other such government building. Chances are, if I am going to beat the ever-loving **** out of you because you were cheering on my son's death, I wouldn't give a flying flip about your damn First Amendment rights, because you consciously chose to abuse them. No. They didn't have the right to be there and do what they did. At All.
It doesn't matter what the first amendment was intended to do, it's what's written that counts. The constitution was intended to make Congress the strongest of our three branches, but now it's our weakest. Does it matter? No, because there's nothing in our constitution that says "congress must be the most powerful of the three branches". People can be ******** when they petition to the government; they can be ******** when they invoke their right to assemble. Again, where does it say in the first amendment that you can only petition the government? Where does it say you can only assemble in order to protest the government? Yes, it's a part of the first amendment ("to petition the government for a redress of grievances"), but it's by no means the only part of the first amendment. Most everyone in this thread favors disregarding the first amendment because in this particular case, the actions are universally disgusting and stupid. It doesn't matter what you feel, it's the constitutionality of it. The Westboro church has a strong case, no matter how idiotic they are. You can't choose to bend the Constitution to fit what you feel.
Regarding Westboro and Phelps having to kick up $11 million, I'm absolutely ecstatic to see these wackos get called on their ****. The responsible side of me loves seeing justice done; the less responsible looks forward to the videos they will inevitably make whining about their martyred status and helplessly fantasizing about the deaths of everyone "persecuting" them. So, I guess everyone wins.
I was pretty happy too, lol, but does anyone know what happens when the convicted can't cough up that much dough? 11 million is just...massive.
-
I hate the Westboro Baptist Church with all my soul, and I'm glad Snyder won his case. But the church has a strong constitutional argument; as disgusting as their protests may be, they're protected by the 1st Amendment. What probably worked for Snyder here was the emotion it brought upon the jury, and I don't blame them. But from what I've heard the church could appeal strongly that 10.9 million is excessive and unrealistic. Charges of disturbing the peace and contributing to the delinquincy of a minor and emotional distress cannot possible add up to 10.9 million; the church only has 1 million in assets and 10.9 is just beating a dead cow.

I watched the OVA and the first episode, just because of the controversy surrounding this anime. I know that sexual thoughts do enter kids' minds as early as third grade. Especially now, with the media and whatnot... the show is extremely exaggerated, but what anime isn't? It's at minimum a decent anime withstanding all the taboo elements in it. But I'm with Dagger on the fanservice. Some of is justified, as I know it's later explained in the series, but some of it isn't. Is a faux-
cum shot on a third-grader
really necessary to 'character development'? I mean...not really.
I'm just hoping the anime does well enough that Seven Seas thinks about picking the manga back up. I was ****ing pissed about that ****.
As pissed as you may have been, I doubt any American publisher will be ready to jump on this series. I'll be surprised if it's considered... there are just some things in Kodomo no Jikan that disturb westerners on a fundamental and pretty much unchangeable level. DeAngelis did what any other reasonable businessman would've done. It's hard to champion loli-con as legitimate character-building and quality material when the anime/manga could easily just be a loli with a plot.
Their Halloween costume? The college application process.
More specifically for me, college application supplements. ;)

I was hella tired today because of Halloween festivities, but overall it was pretty fun. My AP Government class today was great, my teacher can be hilarious sometimes. He somehow managed to make the bill-passing process funny. Today I confirmed that my AP Statistics class is possible the most useless AP class ever created. She gave us entire period to do one practice AP question, which could've been answered with common sense. Newspaper was fun (it always is) because we doodled characters from our AP Lit texts on the board, and then in AP Euro I finished up come college applications (it's a directed study, so there's no teacher to supervise). So...for the rest of the day I get to read a chapter on Napolean for the quiz tomorrow, which I will most likley put off until tomorrow in newspaper to read. Also, Ugly Betty! I did have a debate meeting, though, and it was pretty boring. Plea bargaining is just not a topic I have much opinion on. lol

Basically a bunch of my friends and I dressed up and ran around the neighborhood. We didn't ask for candy (we're 17 now, lol) but we took pictures with people who had cool costumes (i.e. a rubix cube, the Chick-fil-A cow) and generally had a good time. And we bobbed for apples. :] Most of the costumes were impromptu. I was basically a pirate whore, because my shorts were covered by the button-up I was wearing, lol. One of my friends was white trash (she rolled her shorts up so high you could see the pockets and she was pregnant), another House from the tv show, and another "brooding gloom" from Heart of Darkness. My other friends had run-of-the-mill costumes on, but one of them (a milkmaid) talked in an accent and told strangers about how she was an Austrian sex slave. My friends can be sketchy sometimes.

I hear Audition is through the roof with the creepy-factor, but I haven't seen it. I rented it today for a party but no one was up for it. lol

I stopped trick-or-treating after 8th grade, but I plan to do it for fun when I get to college. lol I don't really miss trick-or-treating because I'm not a huge candy maniac like most other high schoolers, so I'm not too bummed about it or anything. My neighborhood doesn't have a lot of Halloween festivities either, since it's sort of small and there aren't a lot of kids. But some of my friends' neighborhoods can get packed with cul-de-sac hangouts and little kids. Now my friends and I have an annual scary movie party, which is just as fun. I love watching terrible horror movies with my friends, they're so easy to make fun of.
