*head/desk* Why can't they just stop messing with Eva so I can buy the box set already and not have to worry about buying anything Eva-related ever again? And considering that it's a whole new remake, it won't do much to bring a complete closure to the original story. But going back on my previous opposition, I don't really care too much about the Eva franchise anymore. An Eva-fan OBer once told me that Gainax made Asuka/Rei porn, for god's sake, so what the hell. Eva has been whored for a long time now, so I shouldn't really freak out over this. D: Admittedly, I'm hella interested in it and I'll watch it, but it's not sparking my excitement.

If you're working on drawing as a hobby, then there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't keep with it. Like Charles said, learning the basics of drawing and expanding your horizons is the best thing an artist can do. Most (if not all) of the popular anime artists you'll find on DA or in the professional field will have a working knowledge of different styles and basic techniques. I'll pretty much guarantee you that an artist who knows how to draw realistically will have a much more solid and talented hold on cartoons than one who only knows how to draw just cartoons. If your school offers them, art introduction classes are a good place to start. I've never taken one, but I'm really hoping that my senior year I'll have an open spot and be able to. >_> I also looked at your public profile, and you were born in 1991. I can believe that you've drawn since you were five, but was there a point when you started to really practice? I've drawn ever since I can remember, but I remember 6th grade as the year I would practice drawing daily. So, that means I've been drawing anime for about six years. Have I improved? Yes, but it's been a long time. I still have leaps and bounds to cover if I want to be at the level I admire, and it'll probably take me another five years or so with continuous practice. I see talented artists post their progression all the time, and it's amazing to see how much they've improved and how long it's taken them, but hey, if you're enthusiastic enough. :)

I found out about this is the worst way. I was checking my friends' xanga updates, and someone wrote: "Tsch. Irwin finally died. And he wasn't even killed by a reptile." I was stunned, left a mean comment, and then checked the news online. How could anyone not like Steve Irwin, seriously? I used to watch his show all the time when I was a kid. I'm sure a lot of people will miss him. I'm going to agree with Delta and say that it showed a lot of passion and dedication for him to die that way. Rock on, Irwin.

My personal results Fun test. :] I'd have to say that the result I got was a good match for me. I'm not fully a dreamer, because I can be obnoxiously realistic and analytical at times, but what the results said can definitely apply to how I behave most of the time. I tend to keep to what I have and enjoy it rather than constantly try new things. My self-esteem will always be somewhat damaged because of what I've gone through in childhood, and I'm almost pathetically un-ambitious. I rarely trust anyone completely and I can be paranoid. But I also treasure the characteristics I would label myself with. I know how to value being alone and keep up close friendships rather than have many acquaintances. I've grown to be empathetic. I'll observe but not comment, and I have an appreciation for beauty and style that I love.
Dude, PWNAGE. I second John as Captain of the Super Otaku Force. Can I be part of it guys? Please? ;_; I relish the justice that has been dealt, especially after losing my digital camera recently. I wish that if someone had found it, they'd return it to me (if they knew it was mine, anyway) instead of just keeping it. I also hope you have the same predicament, and you instead lose something. You'll see how it feels then.
RARGH. My digital camera and my iPod recently were also stolen recently. I was so angry at myself for being careless, even though both situations were out of my hands after I placed the items in someone else's hands. Yes, I did it twice and I know I'm an idiot. But Corey, please. Lame. I definitely learned to keep everything I hold valuable to me at all times, it doesn't mean I didn't appreciate what I had before. I work for everything I buy, and it's not like I'm running around throwing out my money everywhere.

A Year After Katrina and Rita. What are your thoughts
eleanor replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
A year ago when it happened, I was busy writing a speech for debate about the elements of racism that were brought up with the whole thing. Some of the discrimination that black people suffered and what happened because of it was disgusting. I'll admit that I've forgotten about Katrina. I know that it happened and that it was horrible, but like most things, people forgot about it and stopped caring. I don't even know how reconstruction is going, but I'm sure it's in need of help. -
This list is ridiculously too short, so I'll probably add more as the thread goes on. Shakira Shakira's hot. Especially when she dances. Or sings. Or if she just stands there. She makes chest spasms look sexy. Who else could ever do that? Scarlett Johansson I first saw Scarlett Johansson in The Island, and she rivaled Ewan McGregor. She's downright pretty, but she also looks like she can seduce the hell out of you. She can pull off classy, sexy, cute, or whatever. If that's enough, her lips are perfect and her profile is beautiful. Keira Knightley Well, duh. Evangeline Lily When I first saw her on Lost, she didn't really stand out as one of the most beautiful women I've seen. She looked pretty conventional, but she grew on me. Her eyes are quite pretty, at least from what I've seen in Lost, and it doesn't hurt that she has a rockin' bod.

He had, what? Thirty seconds of screen time? That was pretty much unacceptable. Very cute, and ridiculously awesome accent, too.
Damn, you beat me to him. Oliver Wood is the best minor character ever, just because Sean Biggerstaff plays him. Ever since I saw him in Harry Potter the Scottish accent has been my favorite on guys. :]
Edward Norton I think he looks best 'live', since photos don't do him justice.
:DDDD Another Edward Norton/Jake Gyllenhaal/Heath Ledger fan lives!
I actually have never eaten non-instant ramen. What is that like?
Oh, man. Non-instant ramen is a thousand times better than instant ramen. The noodles are fresh and thick and the soup is amazing and you can put whatever the hell you want all over it. At some places you can see the chef make the noodles right there. Delish. But when I'm just at home I use the ramen that you have to cook. Microwave ramen is sort of bleh for me, since I'm used to non-instant. I usually pack my ramen with shrimp, tofu, dduk, and egg while it's boiling and then add some extra hot powder to make it spicier.

P: Coincidentally, at a party last night a couple of friends and I started to make a top 10 hottest list. Best thread ever! Excuse me for being stereotypical, but Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger are both gorgeous guys. I've always liked Gyllenhaal even since I saw Donnie Darko, but I started liking Ledger after watching Brokeback Mountain. It's probably more of the character of Ennis that makes me like Heath Ledger more, but that counts too, right? And Gyllenhaal has the loveliest arms, hands down. Jude Law is beautiful, which is the only thing going for him that I like. But Ewan McGregor. *%#$. He's a what my friends and I call a double-triple-threat. He's hot, sexy, and pretty and he can act, sing, and dance. I've loved him ever since I saw Moulin Rouge, he has an amazing singing voice, and he somehow manages to be adorable all the time. Ladies' Man, Man's Man, Man About Town. Basically he's a manly man. ;) First of all, they're both in Ocean's 11, which is probably on my top ten list of movies. Who doesn't like George Clooney? He's so lovable and funny and suave. And he was on South Park as a dog. :] Matt Damon is just someone I've liked forever. I loved watching The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy. A lot of people don't understand why I think they guy it so good-looking, but I guess it's a personal thing. Watching him run across the beach in The Bourne Supremacy was one of the hottest things I've ever seen. *shrug* Fight Club would also be on my top ten list. And Edward Norton and Brad Pitt both looked and played their greatest in that movie. Brad Pitt is just an all-around good-looking guy, and Edward Norton's talent as an actor is amazing. I love him too much.

Manga Naruto Manga [Warning: Spoilers]
eleanor replied to Ryo the Tactician's topic in Otaku Central
Wow cool I can't believe Kishimoto spilled out everthing about Naruto to some person he had lunch with while they ate sushi and cola LOL! [/sarcasm] Naruto 320:
Filler chapter. :] At least Naruto back to being very lovable. Can't wait until Asuma's team gets into heavy action or plot. Asiaphilia, or Count to Ten Before You Post, Please.
eleanor replied to Sara's topic in General Discussion
Her argument is based on truth, but she's taking it overboard. Her biggest mistake is generalizing all anime/manga fans into these "Asiaphiles", which is certainly not true. But there are a lot of people out there who irritate me. I realize that most anime fans are nothing like this, and just enjoy anime and manga. However, the specific group she's talking about really is annoying. I'm generally talking about the fanboys/girls who, after watching/reading anime/manga, think Japan is amazing and can do no wrong. Whenever I see people randomly insert Japanese phrases into their writing and add in "-chan" or "-kun" after peoples' names and random proclamations of love for all Asian girls, it's just very bleh. Once I saw two fanatics fighting over whether or not taking off your shoes is a Japanese or Chinese custom. A bunch of Japanophiles were getting all riled up. For god's sake, shut up! That custom belongs to most if not all Asianic countries. Appreciation means you like parts of the culture (such as its forms of entertainment), and appropriation comes when the fans unwittingly adopt everything about the country as good. -
I snowboard, but I have to agree with Charles to some extent and say that alot of extreme sporters are generally annoying. As in "HELMETS ARE LAME LOL" except when you fall and, you know, hit your head. Also they wear their pants below their butt. How the hell are you supposed to snowboard with your pants falling off? Dunno, but for some reason I don't enjoy the culture behind the extreme sports.

Right now my only advice is to make the font readable. I've been trying to find out what your band name is, and I still have no idea. P:
-
Thanks for that. I see what you're saying, but I can't exactly agree. There are a lot of personal philosophies that readers would have to agree with to support what you're saying, but it's a new and interesting way to look at everything. :)
1. Certainty is the essence of religion. 1a. "Certainty" means something given which first makes possible an understanding of the world as such. 1b. As given, certainty cannot be "chosen" because it itself is what first creates a basis for choice.
My biggest disagreement lies in these three parts of your argument. People can be certain of their religion, but this is a personal choice. The real choosing is when people decide to place their faith in this 'certainty' that is their religion. But if "certainty" is something given that makes an understanding of the world possible, why can't it be chosen? You say it's because the certainty itself created the basis for choice, but how? Basically what I'm getting at is that religion itself as a subject is too broad to try and break down into logic. The line between faith and rationality is blurred and occurs at different places under different circumstances. Religion is surely grounded in politics and it's been perverted and abused plenty, but I don't think it's understood that way. People may use religion to get their way, but there are faithful people who abide by it in a purely devout manner. At the same time, these faith-driven followers can be blinded by the religion and misinterpret it, but can we assume that they really believe what they're doing is right?
-
Religion is not about believing, it's about certainty. Certainty doesn't just mean being sure of something (the only time we'll ever say a sentence like "I'm sure my house exists" is when some wiseass asks us about it), it means that something is so obvious that it's simply a given in any other understanding we might have, that we never notice it. Having to say "I know x" or "I'm absolutely certain of x" is already to step away from the basic function of x being certain, which is to make any other kind of experience possible at all. And this also means: if I say something like "I have x set of beliefs" (especially ones that I "choose to believe in") and assume I've done away with the religion question, probably I haven't even glanced at the more fundamental kind of certainty that grounds the act of mere believing. Okay, time for an admission: I don't think there's any way to separate certainty from the religious, by an appeal to religion being "supernatural" or anything else (speaking about natural and supernatural implies that we've already understood the world in those terms). If we take the word in this way, then, we can never answer the question "Why do you believe in your religion?" because religion, which is essentially certainty, is the basis for being able to believe anything else or interpret the world in a particular manner at all. The Latin word religare means to bind, to secure in place. We are not the ones doing the binding; we do not choose our religion, and actually it's closer to say that our religion chooses us. We sophisticates think we've gotten rid of the gods, or at least made them into something we can "choose" to believe in or not, when truthfully they might be ruling over us now more than ever.
Fasteriskid, I could be interpreting what you wrote incorrectly. What you're arguing is really interesting to me. I followed you up to the last four paragraphs, but then I started to lose you and stray off from the path. Are you making three separate points in your last three paragraphs or are you using them to get across a bigger point? And if you're certain about everything you've said, a concise thesis or something would be nice. So far I don't know how to reply.
Now, BlueEyedAngel, it sounds kind of like you respect the rights of members of other races, but generally care for your own. I can't hold it against you. For fun, I think i'll side with you. You do seem to be overwhelmed and then some by the posts. The only person otherwise siding with you is John. Now that I see where you're coming from, let's give this a shot. Affirmative action=bull****. If all races are truly equal, than why put all of them in front of one. If white people truly aren't the majority, then why act as though they are? Its discrimination against white people. Someone, please argue pro-affirmative action. Please, argue that discriminating is good.
I believe that discrimination is a factor of progression. If everyone were truly treated equally, there would be no leaders or revolutionary people. How's that for pro-discrimination? P: It's a very testy subject, and the idealists out there will surely hate me forever, but I believe in it. I'm not saying I support discrimination, though. Like I said, it's unclear water.
