Ah, news. I love Jon Stewart, but I don't watch his show regularly only because I don't like watching tv in general. I get most of my news by going on CNN.com and reading Newsweek/Time. News channels only care about ratings, and most of them are taking a conservative turn, so I don't even like watching them anymore. You're never going to escape the mass media while in the US... I was at camp (an academic one) and my instructor decided to update us on all the current events because we were practically cut off from the rest of the world. The media discovered the 'secret notes' or whatever between Blaire and other world leader about the Iraq war months ago, but they decided to give us the news only recently. And this is only an example... the whole class got into a huge debate over the whole Newsweek problem with the article about the Quran. Yeah, anyways. You can't escape it, unless someone here knows an amazing place where they can get hard facts.

Teh funness. http://artpad.art.com/?ijupjd1g08m8 :) That is what I usually do. Sleep. It was really laggy, so a lot of the coloring is chunky. :3 And...I love my blankets. Gryffindor pride! XD
Also, Lunox:
What did you think of Slughorn? I didn't care for him too much. He was mostly there to get a raging hard-on whenever Harry showed up. He felt much more like a plot device than a real character, honestly. A lot of my disappointment from him comes also comes from his addition to the staff putting Snape into Defense Against the Dark Arts and nothing really springing from that, either. Disappointment all around.I liked the addition of Umbridge better in the last novel. She was so much fun to hate. Slughorn didn't really inspire much in me other than annoyance.
Whew. So, yeah, I liked some things about the novel, but there were a lot of things that disappointed me as well. I hope that the final novel really ties things together strongly enough to put HBP in a new light, but I don't know how that would occur. Oh well. I still enjoyed it overall, I suppose.

Ah, yes. Slughorn. Let me just say that I forgot he existed by the end of the book, so I didn't really care for him much either, haha. I saw him as semi-potential evil guy in the beginning, but it turned out to be another thing JK Rowling seemed to just shove off (I was also massively wondering where the all the Harry/Snape hate-scenes in DADA classes were...I was actually excited about that. >_>). I was also expecting some sort of Umbridge-like character in Snape... argh. Anyways, Slughorn was a potentially evil raging hard-on thrown in the corner with Snape. I am thinking maybe because of JK Rowling's pregnancy her hormones did something to her? Am I getting close here? Yes? No? Just another tidbit I want to say: I was very suspicious of Dumbledore during the whole book. Sometimes I was half-expecting Dumbledore to jump onto a desk and reveal that "I am not really Dumbledore, but [insert evil guy]! Hahaha! Bitches!", but that didn't happen. Dunno why, I was just very very suspicious. As in, stroking-my-chin suspicious. Hmmm.
Other random tidbit: While I was waiting at Barnes and Noble for the book to come, my friends and I found the most hardcore-looking group of Harry Potter fans, grabbed a Return of the Sith book, and started raving over Star Wars loudly. The HP fans were giving us looks of murder. Heehee. Real quote: Friend: Who would win in the ultimate duel, HARRY POTTER OR OBI-WAN?! Me: Duh, Obi-Wan, and if I must add that VOLDEMORT IS NOTHING ON DARTH VADER. -

Um. I shall sum up my experience with Half-Blood Prince with these words: Stunned. Frustrated. Angry. Dissappointed. Seriously, I waited at Barnes and Noble for three hours and pulled an all-nighter for this? MASSIVE SPOILERS, IF YOU MISS THIS WARNING AND READ IT I TAKE IT YOU'RE A FOOL.
STUFF I HATED. Ok, this is my official bitch-time about how much Half-Blood Prince dissappointed me. It is possibly the worst or 2nd worst book in the series for me. Plot? What? What Plot? What is this Plot you talk about?: JK Rowling herself said that books 6 & 7 were like one book split into two. Good going, because now book 6 has the most watered down plot. Ever. If you asked me to give you the solid plot of Half-Blood Prince, it'd be a bunch of nonsense. Hey, ever notice the title? Harry Potter and the HALF-BLOOD PRINCE. The actual 'half-blood prince' played such a minor role in the plot (whatever that was) that it astounded me that JK Rowling didn't name this book 'Harry Potter and A Bunch of Stuff and a Rushed Ending'. Things didn't get into a good flow until near the end when Harry found out what horcruxes were and Dumbledore took him to get one of Tom Riddle's horcruxes. (Seriously, did you read the jacket summary? It was horrible! Damn, I think I could've written a better one.) Snape? Brilliant!, WASTED POTENTIAL!: If JK Rowling hadn't spent so much time elaborating on the entirely boring romance problems, maybe she could've elaborated on Snape's character instead of getting lazy and dumping it all into 'OOoOoOOo, Snape had the same background and blood-purity problems as Tom Riddle!'. Well, OoOooOo, JK Rowling, we're all SO impressed. And if JK Rowling is using this as some trick up her sleeve for the next book... Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Try and make it believable for readers in the first place, please. REMUS/TONKS?! Romance in GENERAL.: The whole Remus/Tonks business. Disgusting. Not because I don't like the pairing (I really liked Tonks), but just the way that JK Rowling incorporated it into the book. What did it do? Nothing. Did Tonk's moping really do anything to affect the plot? No. Did ANY of this affect the plot? No. IS THERE A PLOT? Seriously, you're reading the book and every so often JK Rowling throws in some random line about Tonks moping, and then there's some random out of a cow's ass scene at the end where Tonks confesses her love for Lupin? WHAT. Jesus Christ. Right, so I can understand the Ron/Hermione, which ultimately got on my nerves because it was being so overplayed. Harry and Ginny? Truthfully, I never wanted Harry to get together with anyone, but he had to, I'd pick Ginny. But JK Rowling did something and now I will never see the Harry/Ginny ship in a good light again. I'm guessing FANFICTION WRITERS TOOK OVER JK ROWLING'S BRAIN.: One girl wondered if JK Rowling decided to take some rabid fangirl's version of HBP and publish it. LET'S FORGET ABOUT NEVILLE, LUPIN, AND OCCLUMENCY. False hopes and desires!: No, really! Since they seem so unimportant now. Didn't we read about 40 pages of Harry sitting through Occlumency lessons in OotP? And I can't believe JK Rowling promised all this shit like 'A great thing will be revealed about Lily Evans!'. What exactly was it? That she was good at potions?! OK! Gee, that was a revolution. And 'a lot more about Lupin will be revealed!'. WHAT?! All I learned was that Lupin is suffering, but JK Rowling decided to give him, what, 7 lines in the whole book? Harry and Ginny's break-up scene: Wow. I can taste the cheese. Did JK Rowling write this in 3 months? How is everything going to tie up in book 7?: I am forced to wonder, really. And considering how things are going, there is probably going to be a MASS WEDDING at the end of the whole series. The few, the proud, the STUFF I LIKED. Bill/Fleur: Ok, the part where Fleur back-talks Mrs. Weasley after Bill gets hurt is amazing. I hate Ginny. And I am starting to hate Hermione. Fleur is freaking amazing. I love her. She, Luna, Katie Bell, and Parvati are the only female characters who aren't driving me mental. Draco: Very in-character. The history of Tom Riddle: Was very cool. Thank you.
In all, I sorely regret forcing myself to stay up the night on one bottle of Pepsi, and am grateful that at-least-I-got-a-poster-and-bracelet-when-I-purchased-the-book-at-midnight. I'm going to the Barnes and Noble release party for HBP...and my friends are dressing up, that is how obsessed they are. I won't be surprised if they completely dominate the trivia games held there. I will in a corner working on my summer reading project waiting until midnight, haha. As for spoilers... I have a story. I was at camp when OotP came out. Fortunately it was a nerd camp and everyone bugged the counselors enough so that instead of regular activites after class we could go to Barnes and Nobles. We did, I got the book, and I was happy. Unfortunately some kid yelled out who died, and I was devastated. I was JUST ABOUT TO GET TO THAT CHAPTER. I think I died. :) -
Is anybody here obsessed with this film other than me? :D I just recently watched Moulin Rouge and I was blown away. I loved it. I bought the soundtrack on iTunes and ordered Volume 2 of the soundtrack, and those songs are my babies. I never really appreciated how am-AZing Ewan McGregor is (it made me want to watch The Island). X0 When I first heard him sing "the hills are alive...", I think I died. I really had no idea he could sing so well, and same goes for Nicole Kidman (who looks beautiful in this film). The 'Your Song' and 'Elephant Love Medley' sequences were amazing to watch, and the 'Roxanne' scene was...guh. I adore it. And how they work in all these original songs into the movie and make it something different, I loved it. Love love love it. Baz's style in making this movie was wonderful, it made me want to watch Romeo & Juliet and Strictly Ballroom. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it, and I loved it immediately. I loved (how many times have I used this word?) how he managed to switch from funny and entertaining to heartbreaking, and I was very teary by the end of the movie. The magical realism that was used was such an amazing element of the movie, argh. I could rant about how cool this movie is forever. Mostly what drew me was the music, though. I was EXTREMELY glad when it wasn't like Phantom of the Opera, in-which-they-sang-all-the-time-and-it-got-really-annoying. As I said...I love Ewan's voice and Nicole's voice is lovely to hear as well. (Seriously, if a guy sang 'Your Song' to me like that I'd be a puddle.) Ah. Yes. So, anyone else here like?

Government can seize homeowners' property for private development
eleanor replied to Sara's topic in General Discussion
It's not like the US Government is out to get us (let's hope), so I don't think it will be a major issue. No doubt there will be situations when the state government uses this for ****** purposes, but that has always happened. What I'm guessing most homeowners will be pissed about is that the gov't won't give them ample money. Which will probably happen. I don't see any war over this, is what I'm trying to get across. A judge should be an originalist, that sticks to the original document they're representing: the Constitution in this case. If you want to change the Constitution, you go through the Legislature, not the judiciary. Hopefully, the new judges appointed to the Supreme Court will not be judicial activists. Seriously, no. The Judicial Supreme Court has the power to rule law unconstitutional, it doesn't mean they're a bunch of hippies trying to radically change the world. Please remember: Legislsature makes the laws, Judicial Courts judge it. -
It's a great idea, really. Instead of bitching about people downloading free anime, they can do what the music industry did and try and make it to their advantage. Charge some money for high-quality vids of anime, and although there would still be tons of freeloaders, I'm guessing it could work. ... Maybe. >_> Not through bittorrent persay, but something like it.

Um. To the whole computer animated movies are basically the same and getting old. They were mostly made to entertain. And they did. And they made lots of money. And they are COOL. Pixar rocks. End of story. :) The paradies were ok, but Jimmy Fallon just doesn't make me laugh for some reason. His jokes were cheesy and predictable. I thought the funniest one was Napolean Dynamite as Batman, priceless. I, too, thought Spider Man 2 was shafted on some awards. I can't believe seeing movies like Napolean Dynamite and Mean Girls winning so many awards with Spider Man 2, The Aviator, Ray, all came up basicaly empty handed (besides Leonardo's one award). These movies were truly great yet Mean Girls seemed to sweep the show. Proves once again that to many young blonde girls have access to technology. They should be counted as halves to make the votes fair lol. Woah. Hold it. This is MTV. What did you expect, the Oscars? Of course Mean Girls and Napolean Dynamite won a lot of stuff. And...IMO, Ray sucked. The only thing that made it good was Jamie Foxx's acting. (Jamie Foxx is the shiz). Anyways, I just hate it when people complain about which movies won at a MTV movie award show. Seriously. Did you expect anything else? As for the spoofs, the only one that made my laugh was the Star Wars one. Mainly because I'm a Star Wars dork, but whatever. :D

Well, no. I don't even bother downloading the latest episodes, only the manga. Which is KILLING ME. (sorry for the mistake, ^_^;;) I hope nothing bad happens to
Gaara...he's my favorite character. >_>
. I think the anime Naruto craze will pick up slightly when the filler arc is over.

Full orchestra. Much love. I play the cello, so I was always being pulled into classical music. I can't say I love classical music generally, but there are some parts of classical music I adore. Mostly violin literature, or full orchestra scores. I've been listening to Gil Shaham lately (my sister LOVES him), and I really like his playing as well. Seriously...he is so much better than Joshua Bell. And I like movie scores as well, but I never buy them. The only ones I've bought are the Lord of the Rings soundtracks, because they are the shiz. :) But full orchestras are *so* great for scores... I've noticed that a lot of Philharmonic Orchestras tend to lack a certain quality of sound compared to others. Depth, or bass, or something. Listening to renditions of game music by the Japan Philharmonic and James Bond arrangements by the Prague Philharmonic, they always tend to lack something in comparison to say, the London Philharmonic. Is there a reason for it, do you know, or is it just how things are? Well. In philharmonic orchestras, there are certain levels. First tier, second tier, third tier, etc. If you listen to first tier orchestras (Cleveland Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, etc.), you're listening to the best, so you can be sure that if there was ever a perfect orchestra, these guys would be near it. Game music and such would probably never be played by a first tier orchestra, so there can be oddities and some screw-ups.

Favorite, strangest and most annoying commercials on TV now
eleanor replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Noosphere
Most of the Burger King/Star Wars commercials annoy, except for one. The one where Darth Vader and the King are just standing there, breathing. Oh gawd. I love that commercial. I laugh everytime I see it. As for ones I hate... The Jamster Ringtones commercials. I hate them. With a passion. And the Sonic commercials are lame, too, because the food doesn't even look good. It looks fake and nasty. At least Burger King and McDonalds can make their food look really good-tasting (and it is good-tasting :D). -
I would like to become famous in a certain area, but not moviestar/singer famous where everyone on the planet knows you (i.e. Britney Spears, Tom Hanks). Not famous in a 'omg let me take your picture' way, just so that people that are interested in that certain area know who you are and respect your work. Ideally, the only area I'd ever want to be famous in is either literature for writing (i.e. Jonathan Safran Foer. Most people don't know him, but people who are interested in novels will definately know him and many respect him/worship him [like me]) or in the news business for being a good news reporter (REPORTER, not achor). :)
Interesting comments, Lunox. I actually prefer Boogiepop Phantom to Paranoia Agent; it's a lot more consistent in terms of style and atmosphere, and I thought the way in which the characters' stories tied into each other were more interesting. Boogiepop does make sense (contrary to popular belief, haha), but it's much harder to figure out than PA, which for me meant that it had a lot more replay value. In PA, everything falls together almost too neatly--I'd watch it again, but mainly to see if I missed any huge clues the first time around. It also felt more like an "experiment," if that makes any sense; while the setting-heavy episodes were enjoyable, I thought they made the show weaker in a structural sense. As for the reason she
created Shounen Bat, I never saw it as being solely because Maromi died. It had much more to do with her relationship with her father than with how she felt about the puppy. That's the key factor which I wish had been introduced earlier--her father and the role he played in her childhood. I found that her reason for creating Shounen Bat made sense, but mainly on a logical level rather than an emotional level. That said, I think you're really underestimating how the power balance in such a relationship can affect a young child. Her guilt, shame and fear must have been truly crushing.
~Dagger~
Eh. I just didn't like Boogiepop Phantom. I thought the characters were bland and the story was boring. Mostly I just thought it was boring. But I must say, Paranoia Agent had some mighty boring parts, too. It was just more watchable for me. BP had that whole 'too many layers' thing I mentioned in my earlier post. But please don't misunderstand; it's not that I don't like many-layered stuff, but watching anime is a light hobby of mine. I don't want to sit here forever and re-watch stuff just to understand it. Literature, yes. Anime, no. Now, if I were a more hardcore fan (i.e. you) I would be examining it to death like I do with novels, but I'm not. :/ As for
the creation of Shounen Bat, I believe you brought up two points that I can use to show why I didn't like the whole idea. That's the key factor which I wish had been introduced earlier--her father and the role he played in her childhood. I found that her reason for creating Shounen Bat made sense, but mainly on a logical level rather than an emotional level. Exactly. When the hell did logic ever come into Tsuki's mind? Shounen Bat's 'creation' was pure emotion, not logic. Tsuki did not sit there and think for hours on end and then decided to create Shounen Bat and keep him until she needed an outlet. And you're exactly right when the father/daughter relationship had a lot of do with this. Her upbringing had damaging effects on her overall character and personality, so why not really spend some time to concentrate on that? I may have underestimated the effects of such a relationship, but I still don't understand why they didn't spend more time going into the problem. I still think of Tsuki has a heinously weak and annoying character.

-
I just finished watching the series. Paranoia Agent is like the good version of Boogiepop Phantom. Everyone hail Satoshi the director for making PA a great series. It will now be known that Satoshi Kon is the shiz. Ok. So now I'll profess my love/hate relationship with PA. Stuff that's Gooood 1) I love Maniwa! Is he cool or what? He's cool. And the coolness of him
not falling back into society as r2vp said.
2) Oh, humanity, you'll be the death of us. Somehow Satoshi Kon managed to make us have at least a nano-second of sympathy or understanding for all of the characters, which is also an amazing feat considering the characters. We're all human. Embrace it, love it, whatever. Even though the small stories are insanely boring at times, it was still worth it. 3) Layers, yay. Always kept you guessing and wondering, and at the end you were still confused about some thing, yes? I know I was. Perhaps too many layers, but whatever. 4) You can never get enough themes about society. It's a party. Stuff that Sucks Beyond All Reasoning 1) Paranoia Agent did not freak me out. Not once. I thought it was supposed to be the most bizzare-o thing ever. It wasn't. Ok, so the opening scene sort of made me go 'this is bizzare', but nothing else. 2) Tsuki. I hate her. No. Really. Anime is so sexist it's not even funny. 'LET'S MAKE 98% OF THE GIRLS WEAK/INSECURE/(or in other cases, highly annoying/naive/dumb) LOSERS! Woo-hoo! What a blast!' 3) The disappointment that I knew was coming.
As the series boiled down... I knew that the whole reasoning behind Shounen Bat was going to be...a bit...of...a...disappointment. And it came. It sucked. Uhm. Yes, so Tsuki's puppy died because she wasn't paying attention. That's REALLY just the BEST traumatic scene ever. Even with Tsuki's weak character...that's just lame. Badly.

I feel like such a dork. BUT I WOULD SO BUY IT. Other than that... I would basically love any sleek/luxurious/sporty/sexy convertible. But I'm also a sucker for nice-looking SUVs or any kind. And ferraris are nice, too, because of its doors. And its name.
There's only one way to settle it, and that's finding the exact quote and where it's stated. Why? Because I just watched all of FMA and I'm 99% sure there was no such discussion between Ed and Al like that. Not once did either of them try to explain why Al can still use Alchemy. I think it was not so much because it was a plothole as just something that didn't need to be explained. And again, I think that "you need a soul to perform alchemy" is just the general conclusion people come to because of the homunculi. However, it's never explicitly stated. As Wrath even says in your quote,
Ed's arm and leg have no soul
. So, if we go with the belief that
Wrath can do alchemy
is a plothole, then yes, the idea that one needs a soul to perform alchemy is indeed plausible. However, if we were to go with another notion, that
Wrath being able to do alchemy
is NOT a plothole, then the soul idea is not plausible in the least. So if it's never stated why the homunculi can't do alchemy and humans can, what do I think matters? Simply put,
you need something from this side of the gate. Al's soul is from the side of the gate that performs alchemy. Ed's arms and legs are from the same side of the gate. The homunculi are from the other side of the gate, and so can't perform alchemy. Get what I mean? The best way they can confirm this is by showing in the movie a person coming into the alchemical world from the other side. I hope the movie does that, heh.
:p
Yeah, I get what you mean by the whole
you need something from the other side the Gate etc.
thing. Ack. I don't know. I do know that this soul thing didn't come from nowhere, it's said somewhere, be it the anime or the manga. It's very possible I picked it up form the manga. I also do know that it was basically reaffirmed when I read this review:
...At the end of the series, rules that governed the homunculi are forgotten, remembered and then discarded for the sake of a bad plotline (think Lust and her reaction to her remains and compare that to Greed and Pride. That's just sloppy writing). And as for the ability to actually DO alchemy, the anime guys seemed to have forgotten that it's a person's soul that can call forth the power to do it. That explains how Al can still do it without a flesh and bone body. But that doesn't explain how Wrath can do it with just Ed's arm (as it is stated over and over again very clearly so that even mental fucktards can understand "Homunculi can't perform alchemy"). Did they think any of this **** through?! http://www.therossman.com/rrr/anime/fullmetalalchemist.html
and the guy who writes it isn't one to make stuff up or anything. He's just uh...very passionate. I have NO idea. Please excuse my brain-dead-ness, it's summer break for me and my brain has melted, lol. And yes, hooray for the movie. The sad thing is that we probably won't get to see it until after about a year it comes out in Japan. :/
-

I do not feel like looking through the whole series for direct quotes, but in episode 31, Wrath says that the "result of that [body alchemy] is this incomplete thing that lacks a soul..." And why can Al still perform alchemy in his armor form? Because he still has his soul.
Actually, if you want to find a direct quote saying that a soul is needed to perform alchemy, I'm sure anyone could find one during the part in the series where Ed explains why Al can still do alchemy. I'm sure it's somewhere near the beginning, but I just don't feel like looking for it. Added closing spoiler tag. I wasn't sure where it was meant to go, but since the opening was there, I thought there needed to be a second... I hope it's in the right place, heh. -Solo
Guess what I did this Memorial Day Weekend. ^^ Going back to the plotholes, the only big one that I remember being brought up was
Wrath being able to perform alchemy
. Usually it's Ed who comes up with the scheme or mechanism, but this time around, it was Alphonse, so that might explain why people consider it an unexplained plothole. Afterall, who listens to Al? =P Anyway,
Wrath obtained Ed's arm and leg. Wrath also is all-too familiar with the Gate. You can tell that he remembers the gate probably more clearly than any human, as he goes crazy when Dante summons it and he sees it. His exposure to the gate, along with him having genuine human parts instead of artificial limbs, are more than enough to explain how Wrath is able to use alchemy. Al points out that Wrath creates a circle in a similar fashion to Ed using those limbs. I imagine he doesn't need to strike his hands together because of his greater familiarity with the Gate. In addition, Ed later mentions how he can manipulate a homunculus' body with alchemy because they are not the same as humans. So, while all the homunculi have seen the gate, but none have the human component necessary to perform alchemy. Also, Hohenheim mentions how all the homunculi know everything about alchemy, but can't perform it
.
It still does not make sense.
It is specifically said that a being need a soul to perform alchemy. Although Wrath may know much about alchemy, the Gate, and has two human arms, it does not give him a soul. Unless it is taken that an arm and a leg equals a soul.
It simply does not make any sense, and it is probably due to poor writing.

*Spaztastic* I love the first guy's little arm things! They are cool. :D *nod nod* Everything looks great ('cept maybe the left leg [the one resting, not the one that is bent up]...it just looks sort of bit proportional. I am a proportion freak, sorry. ^_^;) and his face is lovely, mmm. And his hair. It is all wonderful. Awesome job! And yeah, anything Gaara is pretty much the shiz. Everyone's facial proportions are off Eh, no they're not. How can you even tell? The icons don't show you the exact length of the shoulders...

Bor-ing. I'm not even going to bother downloading them until they get back on track to the Kakashi plot and stuff. Episode 136 was supremely boring, I had to force myself to sit through it. Basically all that happens is that
Sakura decides to secretly leave to try and rescue Sasuke (because she's an idiot and I hate her) and Naruto joins her. Then Jiraiya randomly shows up with a Super-S class mission to investigate the Hidden Sound Village. They all set out together and the rest of the episode is a yawnfest. Jiraiya robs Naruto of his money, goes into an almost deserted street with people hiding in dark buildings and looking at him with red eyes, finds an inn, tries to get laid, get chased away by bodyguards, Naruto and Sakura wait and then are attacked by random plot device girl, Jiraiya, Naruto, and Sakura all run away from the bodyguards. Indeed.
As far as I can tell, the Naruto manga is the only thing worth downloading. Especially now. I hate it when they stall. >_>

;) Soubi is pretty. I was utterly and completely bored, so I just started downloading Loveless tonight. I went in without high expectations or low expectations...I was not really impressed but not dissappointed. The first thing that ran through my mind was that Ritsuka slightly irritated me, and I felt like killing Yuiko. Seriously, who gets so worked up that they have to stand up and yell at someone and disturb the whole class? And she uses third-person! *kills self* The next thing I noted was that the dialogue was both cheesy and unbelievable. I do not know whether or not they were trying to make Ritsuka's random shouted words part of his character development, but I really didn't like it. Everything he shouts in frustration or anger seems like things Ritsuka would be thinking rather than speaking. But other than that, the art is nice and the storyline is intriguing. I have only watched up to episode 4, but I hope later on they provide more information about Seimei and Toubi's relationship and such.

I've bascially become a politico and I can definately tell people that I'm a Democrat if they asked me what party I belonged to. Why I am is simply because my base morals and gut feelings have always agreed with Democratic views. Most of the time I'm liberal, but there are times I am conservative. But saying that I'm 'liberal' now makes me feel somewhat embarrased. No doubt, the biggest problem with today's liberals is that all they want is their own way. Of course, you can now say that both conservatives and liberals only want their own way, which is basically true if you get down to it. But what I believe is that the US has always and will be a naturally conservative country. So. In all truth, if you want to be a liberal that really stands out, really makes a difference, you must be smarter, more intelligent, more capable in everything if you are to challege conservatives. The problem is that now, most liberals aren't. Now, I am NOT saying that I'm one of those super-talanted liberals, because up until recently I have been as ignorant to what being liberal really means. And if you'll excuse me and allow me to throw away and forget all the dumb arguments in politics I've ever made, I must now come up with a different way to arguing. If I am to be 'liberal', my knowledge in diction must be good enough so that I can persuade and lead on conservatives rather than stating that 'this is what I believe and damn you better well do it'. So seriously, if you're not up to the challenge of being a liberal, you'd be better off as a conservative. And to anyone who is conservative: I'm not trying to bash you. Another giant problem with liberals now is that most of us are not open-minded at all. Most liberals now shun and don't even want to listen to conservatives, only because conservatives are labled so. Conservatives can always be a great base of traditional values and such. Because yes, if the country were totally run by liberals, it'd be some sort of hell. I know that for sure... ._. But then again, I also pride in being a liberal as well. I like the idea that I would have been a person who supported inter-racial marraiges. I like the idea I would have been a person who supported civil rights. As Mark Twain said: "The radical of one century is the conservative of the next. The radical invents the views. When he has worn them out the conservative adopts them." It has always been the liberals who have brought forth the regularities of the present country. We're here for a reason. Stem cell research, as far as I'm concerned, can only be a positive, possibly finding a way to help out paralyzed people, or curing illnesses previously determined incurable. This really sparked my interest. When I first heard about the argument of stem cell research, I agreed to using it. As I said before, my base morals usually tend to be democratic and/or liberal (yes, please note I used 'and/or'). But you're always reading these famous books of 'how far is too far'? Brave New World, being a somewhat decent but usable example. As far as that goes... I am not sure I can be using this point in this case. But it makes me wonder, that if liberals are always the ones pushing radical ideas and making them conservatives, would liberals be the death of us? :3
