I don't care what this crossword says, "In (a pet)" is not a real phrase; synonymous with "miffed." Even if "pet" is short for "petulant." No one has ever used that phrase in their life.

Not surprisingly, when I finally understood what the phrase was supposed to mean, I figured it was something an uppity Englishman would say.
