Not to say I'm an expert on emo (I'm not.... at all. I don't listen to it (besides Ian Mackaye's stuff and Husker Du,, and I don't claim myself to be....), but I don't really think Bright Eyes is emo. I don't know if you implied that or what, since SCR is an emo label, mostly, and Bright Eyes is on it, etc...
I was mostly just generalizing. I could have been more picky about telling a bit about the SCR bands, but I do not care enough for any of them to do so. I am not much of an 'emo' person either, so yeah.
-
In terms of 'emo,' I would probably reccomend a local label around here, Saddle Creek Records (http://www.saddle-creek.com). As I said, it is local, but I think it is getting a lot of national attention. Bands such as Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley, and The Faint are the ones I have heard most people talking about. I personally do not listen to any of them, but I figured I would give the options.
-
I do not personally find it morbid, but I like it enough all the same. The colors may be a little too subdued, but that might just be me being picky. Thumbs up.

A good friend is not worth losing over a simple crush either one of you two may or may not have. If she says she does not actually care to date him, then by all means you should be able to step forward. However, there could easily be consequences to your actions, such as awkwardness between you and her. It is like when you have a group of friends, and two of them start dating each other. Something changes in your mind toward them and you are unsure how exactly to act. Especially if/when either of you (your or the guy) begin involving your friend with issues between yourself and this guy. I stand by my opening statement. You are only still a sophomore, you have better things to worry about than a relationship.

I have seen 24 of the episodes now, currently in the Chuunin exams. At this point it seems the story is a lot more about Sasuke than it is about Naruto. All Naruto has going for him is his constant urge to compete with Sasuke and keep drooling over Sakura, lol. That is fine with me, though. Sasuke is still my favorite, and Gaara of the Desert is up their with him as well. Even though I have not seen much of him yet, he still seems really cool, especially from pictures I have seen of him. That whole eyeliner look works for him, too, heh. I find Rock Lee kind of annoying, though. o_O Heh, and as for Haku,
I still cannot think of him as a boy.

Online Relationships, and Impact therof
PiroMunkie replied to Drix D'Zanth's topic in General Discussion
Heh ... I feel like I have so much I could say, but yet I can think of nothing. Online friendships can surely develop. It is surely a selective basis, or should be, but I do believe friends can exist without the presence of physical contact. Through my own personal experience, I have a few people I would actually consider friends out of the many people I have met. Most are just acquaintances, but some people have actually made a connection with me that makes me feel comfortable in talking about certain things with them. Most cases of kidnappings from online meets are because people are just ignorant. Not the kidnappers, but those who are kidnapped. They run out and meet people without really knowing them. Also, keep in mind, "that ppl whu typ lik this r usully teh ones who hav this happn 2 them." (A) Those kinds of people are usually young anyway, and (B) if they are not, then they are too braindead to have a lot of common judgement. For a while, police hard a hard time tracking down online predators because the decoys they had typing as "innocent children" were typing like your typical mature person would. It was not until they realized, "Hey, 'kidz talk lik this on teh net, lolz OMG!!!1!'" that they actually began picking up pace. I understand the point people actually act different in person, but even if you are friends long enough, you should be familiar with what the person's actions might be. Surely, I can recall in conversations with people where I have said things like, "Well, in a situation like that I would do (blah blah blah)," or "I have a habit of (blah blah blah)." So people will have preconceived notions about how a person is going to act before they meet (if they do meet). It is when those are not what was expected you should start worrying, heh. As for online boyfriend/girlfriend relationships, I would like to think it is possible for them to work out. I do not have any significant doubts about it. However, until the two actually meet, I would moreso consider the relationship as "exclusive friends." I know it can be unhealthy to try such a feat, because humans need human contact, but it really just depends on the types of people within the relationship. There are so many variables that can go into judgements on both sides of the case, it is hard to really debate either side. Online relationships in general can be unhealthy, though. I know that personally. However, I believe it builds character to go through the trails and tribulations. I do not think I would be as strong-willed of a person if I did not fight the negative aspects that can result from long-distance relationships. -
I must say, the pictures you have used for these are amazing. ^_^ I have been several places around the web and have never been able to find such images. Perhaps you are scanning things or something, but I do not know ... It is a good wallpaper, though. I like it. =)

Anime WHo is the stronger in the Dragon Ball Z...?????
PiroMunkie replied to a topic in Otaku Central
Well, Kakarot would be the obvious answer, being the entire series revolves around him. However, this topic is the most pointless one I have seen in a while. So it is now closed. -
Originally posted by Dan Rugh You probably can't tell now since it's not colored, but his pants and scarf are animal printed.
I could tell they were animal printed. ^_^ Well, the word that came to mind was "camoflouge," but same difference, heh. >.> Obviously I am not this far into the series yet (on episode 10) being that I do not recognize the character, but I like the drawing. It is very well done. Of course, it would look better if it were colored. ^_^

Currently in the seventh episode, I would say it is definitely more than a "DBZ like action-packed extravaganza." Naruto seems chock full of thickening plot and character development. The fighting intertwined within it is just eye-candy, and very good eye-candy at that. With the various "jutsu" techniques involved, you are never quite sure what you are seeing or if you are in fact seeing anything that is really there. o_O Unlike DBZ, you cannot see a lot of things coming until they actually happen, or at least the moment right before it happens. The only way you would be able to predict something is if you pay attention to all the extremely subtle hints dropped along the way. When that certain event happens, I, personally, just sit there like, "Wow ... o-o That is pretty friggin' cool." The one main thing I do not like about Naruto - and not even about Naruto itself, it goes with any anime show - is the episodes are too damn short, lol. Twenty minutes goes by so quickly, and I am always wanting more. So I really would not judge Naruto by the first episode. The first few episodes are merely setting things up such as the characters to be involved and what their roles are. I would say by the 4th or 5th episode, the snowball really starts rolling.

I just started watching this last night, merely out of curiosity after seeing Sasuke's wallpaper in the Art&Design forum as well as searching for a decent picture of Sasuke (the actual character, not the member ^_^) all around the web for an RPG. I have seen episodes 1 through 4 currently. I like it enough to continue watching it, and episode 4 had a nice cliff-hanger ending, heh. *praises Sasuke and his shuriken-throwing goodness* So yeah, I have taken to Sasuke pretty quick. I personally find Naruto a tad annoying, ever since the first episode, lol. I was just sitting here like, "This anime is all about him. o_O" However, since I was interested in Sasuke's character from searching all around the web and reading about him, I watched more and more episodes so I could see more of how he actually is in the anime. I like the feel of the show, overall. The animation is pretty good, and certain events are pretty creative, in my opinion. Of course, the perverse humor of such things like the "Sexy no Jutsu" always get a laugh as well. It reminds me of Muten Roshi from the Dragon Ball series. ^_^;

Name: Zin Caldre Age: 17 Gender: Male Hometown: Originally born in: Dragonclaw Town; Currently residing in: Nabuto Town Hobbies: Music, he absolutely loves music, and not necessarily with an actual instrument of any kind. He will bang on objects, blow across the tops of jugs, clap his hands, whistle, and pretty much anything else he can think of given there is no other instrument available. This can sometimes lead to the annoyance of other people. Appearance: Image Here - (the person in front) His hair, shirt, and sandals are all black, and instead of those shorts he has black pants that tuck into his shin guards. There is also a white sash tied around his waist. Personality: Zin is a quiet fellow, but can also be extremely lively given the right people and/or situation. Regardless, he always keeps himself collected and thinking sensibly, no matter how erratic he may be acting; there is a method to his madness. Some consider him a bit bi-polar, being known to go from his quiet, solitary self to one who will be found climbing on random objects or people, saying whatever comes to mind and not worrying about a thing. He is playfully violent, very much a person for physical support with hardy slaps on the back, bear hugs, shoulder punches ... the whole nine yards. He tends to be more aggressive in his "happy mode." He is a very black and white character because of these two extremes. Biography: Zin was first born in Dragonclaw Town, which is wear his love of music originated. As a young child, his parents always told him stories of the tuning of the dragon, and this always made him excited. It was something he longed to see for himself, no matter what it would cost to do so. As a result of these tales, he began teaching himself how to play a variety of instruments; not just the flute. He started with the flute, yes, but then his childish curiosity led him to wonder if there were any other "special" instruments out there that would call upon the aid of mystical creatures. No matter how many times his parents told him there were no such tales of other creatures, he still pursued this quest and would continue to do so until he found an answer. When Zin was 15, he set out from his home to become a traveler, displaying his musical ability wherever he went with whatever was given to him. This is how he made his money in order to support his travels. Sometimes, when by himself, say in a forest, he would just beat a rhythm on tree stumps or large mushrooms with sticks. It was after a few times of doing this he discovered something. Though it was nothing in comparison to a mystical Dragon, any living, non-human creature within earshot of his music was drawn to him. He found it would soothe even the wildest of beasts, which came in handy while trekking across unknown, dangerous territory. By playing and traveling, Zin began to develop a name for himself. He was not necessarily "famous," but but people knew of him. They knew him simply as The Music Boy. He never stayed in one place for too long, so no one ever got the chance to know him as anything different. That is just the way he preferred it though. One small town was not big enough for his own ambitions. Well into his 17th year, Zin had come across a rather busy town known as Nabuto Town. It was here he received the most interesting of news. In the early morning of a random day, a frantic knock pounded the door to his temporary home. When he answered, he saw fancily dressed messenger who was obviously out of breath. This was understandable considering this person probably had to travel many places just to find him, because Zin travels so much. The messenger handed him a scroll laced shut and departed. When Zin open his scroll and read its contents, he was thoroughly shocked; an invitation to go meet the Emperor at Kainoho Palace! Zin nearly fainted. Fortunately for him, Kainoho Palace was not far from Nabuto ... not far at all. This sounds like fun. ^_^
Originally posted by Dan L so what was his excuse, and what were his sins? (I don't mind your opinion, cloricus- I just want to know what it is based on ;))
Oo, I know one. He lost his temper in the temple, when he overturned all those tables and such. Sure, those people morally should not have been selling things within a sacred place and all that, but these people probably did not have much for morals at the time. o_O You cannot condemn a person simply because they cannot tell what is "right" and what is "wrong" according to your own standards. But, as the saying goes - quite fitting with the topic at hand, heh - "Evil begets evil." Jesus lost his temper, and destroyed what was going on because of his own personal, moral opinions. A fine display of Wrath, one of the seven deadly sins. If I remember correctly, the only person in the Bible who never sinned was Mary, the mother of God. The definition of "evil" is going to be different to relatively everyone, because it is such a subjective term. I mean, just look it up in a dictionary; you will get a bunch of vague definitions: 1. Morally bad or wrong; wicked: an evil tyrant. 2. Causing ruin, injury, or pain; harmful: the evil effects of a poor diet. 3. Characterized by or indicating future misfortune; ominous: evil omens. 4. Bad or blameworthy by report; infamous: an evil reputation. 5. Characterized by anger or spite; malicious: an evil temper. It is so much of a vague term, it has five definitions (according to Dictionary.com). To reiterate the whole "this person is evil," "that person is evil" concept, I believe it is rubbish. It would take a lot for a person to be evil; "a lot" being an understatement. A vast majority of people others consider to be "evil" just commit "evil" acts, but are not necessarily "evil" people.

I kind of have to be in the right mood in order to listen to Anti-Flag. While they do have their strong, political views, they way they present them often seems like they are just whining. Whining is not rebelling, it is just annoying. It might be because of Sane's voice, which can get irritating after a while, but I just have a hard time trying to sit through one of their albums. Another thing is, which supports the idea there is not a lot of real heart behind their music, none of them have ever really lead a bad life. They are from at least middle-class families. They may be familiar with aspects of politics that have really screwed with society and the like, but they do not know it. I doubt they have ever experienced much of what they sing about first-hand, so it takes a bit of the credit from them. I find myself enjoying their more light-hearted songs like "Watch the Right" over their songs in which they are trying to be serious. When they are serious, it just comes off as mindless, unfounded complaining and whining. However, simply taking something and making fun of it a bit can get an entirely different reaction. I suppose that is also why I prefer their older stuff where they foucsed more on social problems than political.

I would say variety is key, of all sorts. Do not limit yourself to just a particular type of subject. Take photos of anything that can seem remotely interesting. Experiment with various distances, angles, compositions, types of lighting ... just anything that can go into a photo. Keep it interesting, and keep it good.
-
I like the artsyle of the person, but I think everything could have been drawn better. Like klin said, it seems nearly impossible to have her dancing on those tombstones, heh. I thought the stereo was a football, and I have no idea what the other thing is. Also, you do not need to be on the tombstone to be dancing on a person's grave, heh. A tombstone merely marks where the grave is. "Dancing in the rain of descending ash, dancing on your grave, I'll see you all falling." ^_~

Egh ... o_O I do not remember my first date atl all, lol. I never really kept a record running. I imagine it was just a movie or a hockey game, but that was it. The only thing that is probably interesting is my first date was with my second girlfriend. ^_^; My first one and I never really did much. o_O Seriously ...

I am not really what one might call an avid photographer, but I enjoy taking photos purely for the purpose of arrangement. I like to work on how my eyes are looking at things and what would make something look good. I seem to have a bit of a knack for it. I can take better photos than my mom, lol, though that is not too difficult. Of course, now every time she wants a decent photo taken she comes to me. -__- I simply use my mom's digital camera when I decide to take a picture of something. I am not all into the developing process of photography. As I said, I am just practicing my eyes. So at least with a digital camera I can see what it looks like right away and try again if I do not like it. I usually just have photos of commonplace things, such as my dog, the godforsaken cat that runs around here, holiday photos, etc. If I had the opportunity I would go for more dynamic subjects, such as in Tony's photos. I do not know how to work everything on the camera yet, for example, exactly how and when to use the Macro adjustment (other than turning it on when you are up really close). The main thing I do not like about it is its delay, though. So, obviously, if anything is moving while the picture is recorded it gets blurred. Sometimes it is not so bad, it adds a bit of an abstract "artsy" feel to it. Most of the time it is just annoying. >.> I guess I shall post some of my favorites (yes, I am a loser and put my signature on things). King of the Couch - The first photo I took with the camera which I kept. Simply, my dog lounging on the couch. A Feline Face - Super duper close-upness. I finally took this serious photo after just torturing this cat with the red-eye reduction flash. =D Despite how much I dislike cats, I like how this one turned out. Motion Child These next three are kind of a sequence. This is where I think the whole blur aspect kind of gives the photo a bit of intensity. One of them has a bit more than I would like, but the others are fine, in my opinion. I would have liked for no blur, but this is a two-year-old neice who cannot sit still. These were all taken under our dining table. Photo 1 Photo 2 Photo 3 Christmas Time - This is my step-neice. A holiday photo my mom wanted me to take. She is kind of a goofy child. I like it because she is cute, lol. I would enjoy hearing comments and critique, of course.

Heh, as soon as I saw this thread title I got the APocalypse Hoboken lyric in my head, "Saturday mornings have turned to kiddie porn." - Pulling Worms Apart (not that I expect many of you to be familiar with it) Anyway, I never really had what I would call "routine" cartoon-watching behavior, but I did have a group of several acrtoons that I always did watch whenever I got the chance. Such shows were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Talespin, Darkwing Duck, Ducktales, ... heh, and who could forget the Chipmunks? The Ghostbusters cartoon was pretty cool, too. I never really had any shows I hated ... though I was hardly ever a fan of Nickelodeon. I was all for the Public Broadcasting System. =P The single greatest kids show of all time? The Magic School Bus. I absolutely love that show. I think I have some kind of intellectual crush on Ms. Frizzle, lol.

Courtesy towards women was not always a part of chivalry, you know. In fact, it was one of the last installments of the code. "Knights," in the beginning, were barbarians. They killed, stole, maimed, and claimed whatever they liked without a second thought, or even a reason. Though, soon enough, the Lords of the land began installing this code of chivalry, but at this time it more more military-based. The knights were still free to take women and claim them for whatever their purposes may be. However, this became less of a problem when knights began to become more reverent. They read the Catholic Bible, attended services, and would do anything in their power to make themselves seem as holy as possible. Though, not because they really cared, but because it gave them a higher social status; people would look up to them. It was not until later when the traveling poets and storytellers came along with their tales of valiant heroes who did have such courtesy toward women, and so knights became more sensitive. They began to read poetry, learn music, learn how to dance, and courtship. In fact, they could not even touch the women they fancied because part of the code was the woman had to already be married. So the knights would worship at a distance. Send them gifts, write letters, and other such acts. I did a report for school a while ago on the history of chivalry, so it was a nice thing to learn. I was never aware of its "darker" background. Everything I said may be a little flawed, because I do not remember exactly what I read, but it is something alng those lines. ^_^ So really, I suppose chivalry could be taken offensively, depending on which phase of it is apparent. Personally, I just do things that would fall under the traditional definition of chivalry simply out of common courtesy, as it has been said before. However, the better I know people, the more likely I am to treat them to it.
-
Aside from the lack of shading, I am fairly impressed; having never seeing any of your artwork before ... at least to my recollection. The lines are nice and smooth. They could be a little darker, but they work. The fill color is nice and smooth as well. The background is a bit 'iffy,' but that was just a filler idea I am guessing, heh. ^_^; As for shading, considering this is an anime drawing, I would go with cell shading, which is just hard-edge. I cannot really explain it very well so I shall just give you an example of my own (click the link below and notice the shading on the characters). http://www.otakuboards.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=471211 When I did that drawing, I used the Polygonal Lasso tool. However, if I were doing it today, then I would probably use the Pen Tool. If you are not at all familiar with the Pen Tool, by all means use the Lasso. You can get the same results, I just find it easier to use the Pen (once I understood how it works, anyway). And of course, do your shading on a separate layer so you can go back and change things easily if you end up not liking something. =)
-
Mmm ... I like them enough. The whole swirly misty kind of stuff with an obscure background (occasionally with text and/or picture) seems to be a running style with you. It works, though. However, something bothers me about the firey one, but I am not sure what. sidenote: *sees AFI lyrics in your sig* You own, lol.

Art Movie: Super Otaku Brothers (Rated PG-13)
PiroMunkie replied to Dragon Warrior's topic in Creative Works
I am sorry, but that was absolutely horrible. That was as bad as Matrix Reloaded, heh. All the scenes were so static and lacking anything at all interesting. The timing is all the same, and since a lot of jokes depend on timing, nothing was funny at all. The Koopa vs. Mario/Luigi scene was incredibly dull. It should not take twenty seonds to jump through the air or cast a fireball. It should not take five seconds for eyes to move. You need to work with timing, definitely. If your program does not allow different times for each frame, then find one that does. You could make these things so much better. As for next character, you should do me, heh. You could spoof Donkey Kong, or King Kong ... or something. ^_~ Also, try not to use the same kind of jokes, or else you will end up likes Austin Power: Goldmember. o_O Blegh .... -
