Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel The 60 page hardcover book is apparently the casing. That's what was wrapped up on the shelf at least. I'll be picking it up in the next few days, yay. I'm under the impression it doesn't have the CD in a jewel case though, which means I'll have to buy the normal disc as well.... eh.
Yes, the book is the casing. There is a little slip in the inside cover that the CD fits into. The CD is in a plastic envelope as well. The DVD is the same situation except that it is on the inside of the back cover. Spoiler for what is inside the book in case anyone care to know:
The inside of the book is only somewhat different from what is inside the actual CD cover. The style concept is similar to that of the CD cover in that there are more photos than art. I, personally, liked the book purely because (a) it is an AFI thing, (b) it has instructions on how to make a paper airplane (a bit different from the conventional way), (c) it is an actual book, so I can carry it around if need be and not have to worry about much damage to it. The lyrics to the songs are in there as well, and in Death of Seasons they took out the "f" word instead of changing it to scucking. So I liked that. So yeah, that is the book for you in a nutshell.

Originally posted by amibasuki once I get some money this summer, I plan on buying one or two of their previous albums, since y'all (yes, y'all :p) are saying that they're supposed to be even better than they were on this one.
You really have to look at how we would define "better" though. Sing the Sorrow was better in terms of everything being nice and crisp, and polished. Though, I think this may have added to the fact that there was a lot less power to it. It does not hit hard enough. With how smooth they made it, it took away the raw energy their previous albums had. It would be like putting on a dress and then trying to mosh. o_O However, their previous albums tend to be a lot more in your face. Back in the day of Answer That and Stay Fashionable and Very Proud of Ya, they were more punk than anything. After that they started developing more of a hardcore sound. Yet every album I say always seems to have a different sound from the previous. They are very good at keep you on your toes. I first heard AFI when they released The Art of Drowning, their last album before this one. Not long after I bought Answer That and Stay Fashionable. It was a total change in sound (well not total, it is not pop or anything, but it is a significant difference). But yeah...
Originally posted from vegeta rocker *glares at those who ignored previous afi thread*
... I am not letting this thread die.. ^__^ AFI just keeps putting out more stuff for me to talk about, and I am really going to have to jump on this now being a member of The 5th Column. So here are some recent AFI updates for you all: Clandestine - In late April, AFI released their first DVD featuring five tracks; four from the album, and one unrecorded. All of which have the option for listening is surround sound. Along with the tracks, there is also a short, silent film. The only sound you here is that of the soundtrack. You have a choice of two different soundtracks. One that Jade (AFI's guitarist) put together, and the other is one that Hunter (AFI's bassist) put together. The film is entitled Clandestine and despite its short length proves to be rather interesting. It is very obscure, and leaves the viewer with one of two emotions. Either they will be disappointed at how the film pretty much just cuts out, or they will be left in suspense and curiosity. You will have to find the film, or buy it, in order to get the juicyness of it. New Music Video - This last week AFI has been shooting for their next music video for their next single off of Sing the Sorrow, The Leaving Song Pt. 2. While no teaser or anything has been put out or anything, there are some photos available to be seen at afireinside.net and just find the mention of the video in the recent news. You can view all of the photos by signing up for their mailing list. I have formed no real opinion on the video yet, because the photos do not really seem to give me much of an idea. Though, Davey looks good in a suit... >.> Well, that is all I have time for right now. Enjoy, and I hope to see you all later. ^_^

You know as well as I do that neither of us can truly answer those questions, so your arguement there is rather weak. Haha, it has the turtle on it. Therefore, it is good in my book. The movie looks a little weak overall, but I would go see it purely for the turtles (mainly because they seem like they are on LSD or something... o_O). The banner serves its purpose. Well done.

The silver light in the heavens shone down on the tranquil world below. A small, but busy, town in the hills seemed to bathe in the radiance, but not even the purest of light could reach every corner. In these shadows is where all tranquility was lost. The paths on which they fall had been tainted with the life of the people throughout the town's history all through a seemingly never-ending war with monstrous agressors from a bit further north. The creatures were small in number, but what they had in ability seemed to make up for that. It was not until about a year ago that they were able to allegedly finish off the last of the creatures with an ambush in their homes. A lynching is what it was. Out of pure fear, the people never wanted to refer to these creatures as to what they really were, so they just referred to them as "them". Regardless, "they" were vampires. Every single one of them. The war between the vampires of the north and the people of the town came to a hault, as was said, a little over a year ago. The final family of Malick was rid of and their home burned to ashes in the process. Each was slaughtered and brought out into the daylight to fry into the dust frmo which they came, but their was one peculiar exception. The youngest of the family, a male, was the last to be killed. Upon seeing his parents' brutal demise, he took in hand the family sword and fought valiantly as much as he could. His blind rage took him out in the daylight to continue his revenge, but the pain of the sunlight weakened him enabling the villagers to overpower him and stick him through with a pitchfork to his own home. Although he did scream in agony and lose the life he had, his body did not burn like the others. It remained pinned, not even being scorched by the flames as his house burned down. After all was said and done, the villagers buried the boy and his sword far, far beneath the earth. So much that they believed not even "it" could resurface. It has been a year since that time, and the quiet of this town will soon be interrupted by vengeance. OOC: My word, that was horrible RPing on my part... -__-

*looks up old character from The Fold* Name: Malick XVI (mal-isk') Race: Vampire Weapons: Blade of Malick: A mere sword created at the hands of his greatest ancestor, Malick I. Despite the different metals present in itself, the sword was forged as one object. A soft, but sturdy leather is fused to the handle. The handle itself is lengthened so it can be used with either one or two hands. The blade is exactly 4.5 feet in length and 1.5 inches in width, and rumored unbreakable. The edge is also said to be lined with the blood of each descendent who has weilded it. Allegedly, any living thing that is cut by the blade will feel the pain Malick XVI's ancestors did when they were killed. Alignment: The Order of Demos Eh... you are not asking for a bio, so I do not think I shall copy that over since it was really long, lol. ^_^;

Well, now that there have been other posts, here is my Winamp. I, like Semmy, just use Winamp 2, this is only until I can possibly figure out how to create custom skins on Winamp 3. It is more gratifying to have your own skin. So here is mine...
-
... Well... Currently, it is not my turn to have control of the desktop, so I do not have that ready. But I do have a Winamp skin.. Well, actually I could just open the wallpaper and... Bah... nevermind, I shall just put them in two separate posts. Here is a wallpaper of mine I plan on using once I get this computer again. I made it. It is more or less just a collage. I have it in 1024x768 as well. Umm... yeah... My Winamp will come later...

... Why is it that I am horribly frightened by the picture? The gaze is just so... empty and... emotionless. Despite the bright colors I would say that there is an angel of death. o_O It is good though... but very creepy.

Well, thank you for clearing that up. I ma pretty sure the confusion about whethere there is a space or not come from the Dragon Ball Z/GT logo itself. The words "Dragon Ball" are crammed together to look like one word. Not everyone has read the manga and such, so not everyoneis going to know if there is a space or not... and really, uit should not even be that big of a deal unless there was something entirely different with the name "DragonBall". Then I could see actually getting irritated by confusing them. So since you have made your point, and it is just a notice rather than an actual topic for discussion I am going to close this. Nothing against you.

It is pretty much a generic version of those stickers with Calvin urinating on different logos... Old stuff... (though my avatar and banner thing are not much different, but not this bad) note: I am not in a very good mood right now.

Eh... I am actually not too impressed by this one at all. I have seen things similar, and made things similar. So really it is not all that new to me... I cannot even really give it points for it beings "artistic"... o-O Sorry...
-
Hrmm... the quality of the banner itself seems a bit low. A bit blurry in a lot of places. This among other things. The idea is a nice one though, I shall give you that. =)

Heh, I never have had to worry about this... I always let her make the first move when it came to things like this. So I do not think I can be of too much help here. Just do what you want to do, when you want to do it, and how you want to get it done.

Heh, I wish I had reason to actually give this idea actual thought, but unfortunately... Off the top of my head I know that "Let's Get It On" redone by Jack Black would definitely be on there...

Art Absolute failure or decent banner? You decide.

Like Dark Death said, it is rather average, but I mean that in more of a complementive way. I also agree that that text is rather plain. I am not sure how I, myself, would have fixed it. I probably would have made the text black with a 2px stroke of white. The font could probably be better, but I cannot really think of one at the moment that would look better. As for the image of the person, I like how it is done except that I would have upped the contrast on it to make the orange a bit more vibrant against the blue. The person is already your focal, I would say, but I feel as though it should really grab your attention and then people would follow where his eyes are looking and see the text. Yup, I would probably slap a border of some kind on that puppy (not a real puppy, a fake one... one that looks exactly like that banner) as well. Maybe even clip off some of the corners like the banner in my signature... I am done. -
Bleh, too plain, my friend. I like the use of complements on the blue against orange, but that is about it. It lacks anything else the could be "special". Good try, but you can always do better.

I am surprised that some could not find the hand, you must be blind... o_O It is the big blue thing in the background. Part of it is cut off but the big white space up top. And AJeh, there are only two people in it, lol. Well, only one if you want to get technical, because it is just a picture of me placed, copied, and flipped horizontally. I find it kind of odd that they are both me being that it looks like they are about to kiss... but yeah, lol. The actual picture was from back in the fall of 2002 when I was getting ready before I put on the musical Clue at a friend's high school. I was having my make-up put on by my favorite make-up puuter-onner (for lack of a real word)... >> That was the whole point of that picture actually, for a keepsake. I looked at Aelyne trustingly, but with an undertone of concern. She had never brought home a stranger... Not that it mattered. Obviously she was not dead yet, so this newcomer had some decency to her. The three of us stood in a calm silence for a bit. My eyes wandering around a bit taking a last glimpse at the early morning atmosphere, since once I went into my house with Aelyne and this other I would not be coming out until that morning star filled the sky. Aelyne was a bit restless, only making me more curious as to what brought her here. This new woman had her eyes fixated calmly on me. Any emotion coming from her face was too ambiguous to decipher. My own eyes caught a glimpse of a stain on her arm; she was injured. How? I do not know, but I now had some idea why she was brought here. "All right," I spoke breaking the silence, "follow me." I sighed as I turned and passed through the threshhold into what I call my home. Immediately, Aelyne rushed into the bathroom to fetch first aid as the other girl nonchalantly took a seat on the sofa; her eyes taking in her new surroundings. I stood with my arms lazily crossed in patience for Aelyne to take care of whatever business there may be. Then, without looking at me, she spoke. "I suppose you would like to know who it is you have so cordially invited into your own place of living?" My eyes snapped towards her in their sockets. By now her gaze was straight forward. I must admit that I was feeling a bit nervous about this situation; not knowing what was going to happen, but that is how I prefer things despite how they make me feel. "You can call me Lady Chevalier," she proclaimed, "and that is all you need to know for now." Such control she could take of a situation. I felt like all I had to do was sit back and enjoy the ride. It seemed as though she knew the questions I was going to ask, and my answers whenever she should inquire. Before anything else could be said, Aelyne came back out with gauze, bandages, and some peroxide to sterilize the wound. She knelt down before the Lady moving into to treat the wound, but the woman smoothly removed the medical aids from Aelyne's hands and began to treat the wound herself. Aelyne rose from her position and took a seat on a chair nearby as we both waited patiently for the Lady to finish; it was not long. Now seemingly in a more talkative mood, or just prepared to answer whatever questions I may have, she turned towards me. "So. What is it that you wish to know?" was her abrupt inquiry. "You know that answer," I responded without missing a beat. "'Everything' is quite a bit to tell." "Try me."
