It all depends on how you are looking at it. If I smoked weed once, I suppose the over all harmful effect it'd have on me would be subsuquently less than that of ALL the crap in cigarrettes. But over time, like you said, it becomes increasingly harmful to you. Have you ever known anyone who did weed on a regular basis for a year? 2 years? compared to that of a person who smokes cigarretts on a regular basis for a year or 2 years. If you cannot see the incredible difference in the two and still think cigs are still worse for you after that, I'll push you off a building.
Originally posted by gokents Im not going to further this beyond my statments now, but evolution is theory. No matter how much you dont want it to be or how much you believe in certain elements. Evolution is a theory to be taken by the intellectual community as it is stated and not just the parts that one of us likes. the common dog to a wolf or humans and monkeys having the same unknown ancestor, both are part of the theory of evolution, and although I agree with parts, that doesnt change the fact that it is a theory. I do agree with elements of it and I will start to be specific about it, but no matter what, the idea of evolution is theory by all standards.
I'm sorry but thats absolutely, 100% false. Evolution has been a proven fact. The horse is a fine example, the elephant another. Shall I show you pictures of what a horse and elephant looked like during the paleolithic era? The horse was about as big as a dog, the elephant about as big as a modern day horse. Due to what you just stated, the horse didn't evolve, but was magically created to look like what it does now out of thin air. Thats absolutely proposterous. Evolution is the very reason we have different sub-species. If evolution weren't a fact, ALL dogs would look the same. If evolution was just a theory there wouldn't be a difference between the African Elephant and the East Indian Elephant. We wouldn't have white and orange tigers. If evolution was theory, we'd all still be living in caves eating Sabretooth Tigers (another example of evolution) GRUNTING at each other asking ourselves why we can't invent fire yet! You simply cannot say Evolution is theory. Evolution is prooven. You are a result of evolution of the human race. You can debate from what we evolved from (a theory indeed) but you CANNOT say that humans haven't evolved from Grunting cavemen to intellectual business men of today. thats stupid. I mean, use your brain, which is the most incredible example of evolution. If you can believe that man was created by something never proven to be existant, and that woman from the simple rib of that man, how can you not believe in the SIMPLICITY that is prooven evolution. To me thats saying not that you don't believe it, but that you don't accept it. I'm not saying man evolved from monkey. I'm just saying evolution exists in this world, whether or not you're too blind to see it. If you want it in simple terms: God = NOT prooven Evolution = Prooven I ask a simple question here as well. If it's alright to laugh at the concept man evolved from monkey, then why is it offensive to laugh at the thought of God existing?
Originally posted by cloricus I'd like to discredit this. The only effect that smoking small amounts of weed (Eg, a few joints a week.) for a guy is that he will be temporarily sterile. I'm unclear on the effects on women. I do how ever know that the long term and excessive use of weed is relatively bad for you. Though a joint is no where near as bad as a cig. Eps - Credible info from a semi-creditable person. :P
Few joints a week over the period of 20 years will do a HELL of alot more to you than being temporaily sterile. If I smoked a pack of cigarrettes right now and never smoked again, it wouldn't harm me at all (well perhaps slightly, but not much). I believe the point Semjaza was making would be one of over a period of time not just for a few weeks. The department of Health would strongly disagree. there's a comercial running on TV now which explains that one joint is equal to 4 cigarrettes. No offense to you or your "source" but I would tend to believe the department of health over you. Youa re still breathing in smoke, either way, which is obviously not good for you lol. And cigarrettes have filters, joints don't. It's pretty obvious a joint is much worse than a cigarrette. (that would be logical seeing as how marijuana is illegal and tobacco is not)
Originally posted by wrist cutter Looked in a mirror lately? ;)
LOL. I don't look like that. Obviosuly I was refering to a more extreme version of "bulky" and not just muscular or big.
The thing is... evolution IS a theory.
Evolution ISN'T theory. Evolution of man from monkey IS theory. Please be more exact on your statements.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel I don't listen to the radio much at all. I don't think anyone that wants to see what there is truly offered in ANY country can rely on the radio or even compare it to what there really is out there. There is no comparison. In fact, the bands that are posted here that I feel are rather good myself get little, if any, real radio play... other than a month or so if they are popular for whatever reason. I'd assume Japan is the same way as well... as any other country.
I assume it's the same in Japan as well. However, much of Japanese music I listen to ISN'T played on the radio. Indies stuff. While I know some of it, move for example which is a pop group, is, the majority isn't. My J-rock folder is MUCH MUCH bigger than my J-pop folder.
Obviously, I don't like Alien Ant Farm. I don't like Linkin Park. I don't like 90% of what is selling like crazy right now. That doesn't mean American music on a whole is like this, it really isn't. You just have to be willing to look.
Yes I understand that, but this thread was about AAF, so I was commenting on it's crappiness.
When I said that stuff about you willing to dig through Japan's music scene, I think you took that a bit wrong. I just meant why would you be willing to go through a completely different country's music scene and learn so much about it (because you obviously do know quite a bit about it), but not be willing to do that for music that is here? That's what I don't understand. If you've already done that, then cool. I've just not read anything you've said to make me think that as of yet. It just seems like you've dismissed what's here in general because of what's popular.
I have done it here, which is precisely why I listen to Japanese music. America just doesn't offer the variety I'm looking for in my music. I believe Japanese music offers much more "kick" to it. Due to my nature of curiosity and wonder, I tend to look for things that are "different" which normally leads me to other cultures. Japanese music isn't the only other music I listen to. I probably download/buy more European music than any other. If someone were to offer me suggestions on American music which was different, "out there", and generally good compared to mainstream America, I would certainly check it out.
I was basing what I said on quite a few other threads. Not simply this one. So what you said about AAF specificly isn't what I was wondering about. I've seen other threads where you certainly do talk down about such bands, using "American" in almost a derogatory sense. I know for a fact I'm not the only one to notice it, from speaking to others here.
Well I certainly won't disagree. I have and probably still will use the term "American" in a derogatory sense when refering to music. It's usually mainstream crappy bands I refer to as such. I mean, I can't say I've ever stated that about a fairly unknown American indie band or something. I just think music in mainstream America blows. And it sickens me to hear that people like no talent bands. But, I'm not them. If they want to live hearing only that, I guess they'll be blown away (no to sound arrogant, but many have when they listened to Japanese sons myself or wrist cutter have suggested) when they hear something made of talent and skill.
The question I was wanting an answer to... is mostly why you seem to think there is little good here at this present time? Taking into account things you and I have both said inside and outside of this thread on OB.
I don't think that entirely. I think, as I said above, that the groups in mainstream America suck. I tend to think Japanese mainstream music tends to be full of more talent, while there is still alot of CRAP in Japanese mainstream (GLAY, Utada Hikaru, Oblivion Dust, and ZIGZO for example), I tend to think there's more real talent there than in comparison to the US' mainstream.
Anyway, what I posted this time and what I posted before certainly wasn't an attack, so I hope you didn't take it that way. It's just me being curious and trying to understand your viewpoint, and if it's coming off as being a jerk, I apologize.
You certainly did not come off that way. Nor did you ever for that matter.
Originally posted by James Nobody says that monkeys turned into man. That's about as foolish as saying that woman derived from man's rib.
LOL! Thats awesome. Anyway, as James said. Snow Hares are rabbits who adapted, or EVOLVED so that they could blend in more with the snow. Now all rabbits didn't evolve, only certain ones. If such is the case with man, the same does apply. An Arangatange can almost be seen as an evolution of the monkey. Smarter, more mobile, community skills, etc etc. And even if man was created by God, theirs proof we've, ourselfs, evolved into what we are today. You've heard of cavemen right? They were almost monkey in look. Covered in hair, Big, bulking, gorrilla type creatures. We don't look like that anymore... Did God create us how we are now, or did he create the Cavemen from which we evolved from?
Actualy, the orriginal woman, Lilith was made from clay just as Adam was...she was kicked out of Eden beacue she was a bit to headstrong for him :P
Lol, you mixed more than one creation story together there lol. The SPider Woman, Hpoi Indian Creation Theory I do believe, states that man was created from clay. And it wasn't Adam and there was no Eden in that tale.
What makes you so sure you aren't a loser now?
My thoughts precisely. I think people who are as YOUNG as you who party and do stupid things like you described are losers. No offense, but you are the precise reason I absolutely LOATHE anyone under the age of 16.

Evolution has been scientifically proven, although not in humans. And well, creation hasn't been scientifically proven. I tend to believe what I have some proof of.

Needs to be less green, more blue. It does look like you're looking up, but it looks like it's half dark, half sunlight outside... so I think it needs to be more lighter on the top to show that the sun is really there.
Originally posted by Lady Macaiodh Hmmm... maybe we should also destroy the Statue of Liberty since the French designed, constructed, & paid for it, too, as a gift to the United States.
YEAH! I wonder what these idiots would say then! Anyway, French Fries aren't even FRENCH! It was invented by a Belgians. (The only relation to the French is the fact that the French sold them to Americans) The frozen French fry we use in Fast Food resturants was invented by an AMERICAN! In fact, only in America do they call them FRENCH fries. The English call them chips. The French call them "fried apples"... This is absolutely ridiculous. Blame your own country for making it French you stupid asses.

This is obviously debatable, the question I'm about to ask I mean. Why do you think the US went to Northen Africa when they first entered WWII instead of going right into Europe? Be sure to take in account all information and "secret" agreements (thats a hint). I'm curious to know what you all think about this.

There was a limit once. I think it was 10 lines, no more. Until we put back a limit, if signature length really bothers you, there is an option in your profile to turn off sigs

Some idiot came into work the other day and asked for Freedom Fries... needless to say, we didn't give him any.

I tend to be a World War II history buff. It's my favorite thing to learn about. I know my history, or at least the basics of it and then some. But WWII is where I shine.
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel Their biggest hit was actually Movies, which wasn't a cover song at all. I don't see what it matters. Why post about a band you obviously know next to nothing about? I'm hardly defending them, as I think they suck... But you don't see me going into Japanese music threads acting like it's beneath me. You have this air of superiority about you when you talk about the music you like. As if it's somehow empowering to like these bands so few even know about. You listen to J-Rock and whatever else. Congratulations. That's cool with me, and I respect that. But, sometimes I really think you think American music sucks because you have no idea what's out there. If I looked at it in that sense I'd think so too, as what is on the radio usually does suck. But when someone thinks what Linkin Park put out is above what else is available and is somehow unique, it makes me question how much they really know about what they're talking about. I just find it really surprising that you'd go way out of your way to discover what Japan has to offer without even knowing that much about what's here. You just dismiss it. If you heard most of what was offered here and still disliked it, then cool. It sure doesn't seem like that's the case though.
I never mentioned Japanese music in this thread. Not once. Point out where I ever said anything about Japanese music in this thread, please (besides this post). You are just assuming I am comparing to Japanese music when I say some American band sucks. All I've said in this thread was the only song I've ever heard on the radio by this group was Smooth Criminal, and that's a cover song, and it was popular, too popular, and that's sad. I said it when it first came out, and I'm saying it now. I don't go out of my way to discover what Japan has to offer. I do it because I'm tired of listening to crap like Alien Ant Farm that people eat up (believe me, Japan has crap too). I like to listen to talent in my music, whatever country it's from, and Alien Ant Farm is hardly what I'd call talent. There's plenty of talent in America, why do I hear crap like Alien Ant Farm all the time?
Originally posted by DeathKnight Then perhaps, for the good of the commonwealth of Americans who dislike J-Music as much as you dislike most American bands, you can kindly leave this thread to those that appriciate it, instead of plagueing it. =)
A thread for this band plagues the boards itself. No offense to the people who like the band, but their biggest hit was a cover a song. Thats pathetic. It either a) shows the band has no talent or b) The american public are dumb enough to eat up a cover song enough it become a bigger hit than anything original by the same group. I listen to American radio and the only time I've ever heard the name "Alien Art Farm" was in refrence to Smooth Criminal, regardless if they had more than one single.

It's ridiculous that someone has a freekin novel in their signature. There's no reason to have anything more than a picture and a few sentences in their sig.
Originally posted by Final Flash Good thing that's not the case with Alien Ant Farm.
I've only seen one video and heard one song from Alien Crap Farm and it was a cover of MJ's song. Ofcourse, then again, I don't listen to much of this crappy music much of you speak of.

It's sad when your only hit is a cover of an even bigger hit.

When I first heard the song, I thought it was Linkin Park with like a guest vocalist or something lol. But then I was wrong so yeah This is Evanescence first album using guitars and that rock sound. Thier first album, or her first album, was all piano or acoustic songs with her singing. This new album, Fallen I think is what it's called, was a complete sound change for them. Looks to me like it was for the better because now everyone knows about them. Evanescence EP 1. Where Will You Go 2. Solitude 3. Imaginary 4. Exodus 5. So Close 6. Understanding Whisper EP / Sound Asleep EP 1. Give Unto Me (Sound Asleep) 2. Whisper 3. Understanding (Sound Alseep Version) 4. Forgive Me 5. Understanding (original Version) 6. Ascension of the Spirit Origin (First Album) 1. Origin 2. Whisper 3. Imaginary 4. My Immortal 5. Where Will You Go 6. Field of Innocence 7. Even In Death 8. Anywhere 9. Lies 10. Away From Me 11. Eternal Fallen (Second Album) 1. Going Under 2. Bring Me To Life 3. Everybody's Fool 4. My Immortal (New Version) 5. Haunted 6. Tourniquet (Cover of My Tourniquet by Soul Embraced) 7. Imaginary (New Version) 8. Taking Over Me 9. Hello 10. My Last Breath 11. Whisper (New Version) Unreleased Song Give Unto Me Goodnight Listen to the Rain Before the Dawn October Bring Me To Life (Demo) Surrender The releaser of Fallen released some glitchy versions of the songs on Kazaa before the album was released. They spread like wildfire, believe me I've heard them all. SO if you try to download songs from the new album, don't be surprised if you get one with "beep" or a "screech" at about a minute or two into the song. It's their way of deffering the online trading of the mp3s, it worked too.

This is an odd group. They played on Last Call with Carson Daily like last week or something. They have a uinique style of music that isn't really in dept, but neat none-the-less. Carson was really... weirded out by them, appearance and all. They are of visual style, but nothing compared to what I'm used to. Their music is good though. I like it. Has anyone else heard of, know of, own anything from this group? Also where are they from? I heard various countries and I dunno. Totchi looks so much like Gackt in that style. Kaoru is so sexy... Die looks like a pimp, Shinya sucks as always... and my Kyo-chan is well... Kyo...
