1. You should go see that "doctor" in the other thread.
  2. I killed somebody who kept saying that they could give me advice when they didn't know what they were talking about. What can I do to stop killing people who think they know everything?
  3. Senior year is easy... it's that junior year in college that you aught to be worried about....
  4.
It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a mess about having "In God We Trust" on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the 14% to Sit Down and SHUT UP!!! What do you think? :wigout: :flaming:
Caiuse the majority of that 86% is more mature and definitely smarter than you.... so is the 14% but we won't go into that. I didn't know there was a mess about this? There was a few media things which kind ablew the thing out of proportion. But anyway, to tell you why there was this mess is because the USA is supposedly a country which contains a freedom of religion and a seperation of church and state and by putting God, which obviously is a Christian connotation, on to something sponsored by the government goes against the seperation of church and state. Not only that, if I didn't believe in God, why would I want to say Under God in a pledge. Thats just silly. I honestly don't care much about the money thing, as long as it says how much it is, I wouldn't care if it said In Satan We Trust. Just for the record, I never said the Pledge of Allegiance anyway, I found it to be a horrible waste of time. My teacher used to make us say it, which i still didn't, but by law teachers can't make students say the Pledge. On another side note, for once I'd like you people who seem to have this "sit down and shut up" policy put yourself in the other person's shoes. Put yourself into the 14%. What is only 14% of Americans believed in God? What is the other 86% told you to sit down and shut up.... how would you feel then? Yeah... probably not too good. Probably a little angry.... probably wanting to get your voice heard... Its one thing to believe something, which is personal to you, but to force others to conform to your beliefs is not something that should happen.
  5.
I had wanted to see this for awhile and finally did a few days ago. I found it rather disappointing, especially in comparison to The Ring. There were so many comparisons made between the two when The Eye was first being brought over here, but they really aren't all that similiar. It reminds me more of a lighter Sixth Sense.
Yeah, absolutely. The movie that came to mind when I watched The Eye was the Sixth Sense. Very similar. However, when they brought The Eye to America, they compared it to The Ring because the Ring had phenomenal success both fromt he original and the remake, and they were hopeing to achieve the same effect. However, it isn't the same type of movie, so it hasn't quite porduced the same effect. Great movie though. I couldn't figure out why it was marketed as this horror film that rocked China or whatever. It wasn't so much of a horror than it was a psychological thriller. That one scene when she's sitting with the caligraphy teacher is kinda scary but thats really the only one that made me jump. Kinda reminded me of Ring 2 if any movie besides Sixth Sense.
  6. For someone who seemingly despises Hanson, for whatever envy you may have, you sure as hell know alot about their recent activity. Looks like someone is in denial....

  8. I never got what was so fun about those pokemon and Yu-gi-oh card games... My brother does that stuff and it just looks incredibly boring... But thats just me... Anyway, I also play more traditional card games... spades, poker, whatnot... anything you can do with a regular deck(s) of cards.
  9. For those of you who missed it, heres the list from tthe last two nights. 60-21: 60. Jeff Foxworthy 59. Gilbert Gottfreid 58. Larry Miller 57. Richard Jeni 56. Colin Quinn 55. Allan King 54. Dennis Miller Anyway, most of you have to remember that stand up has been around for a long time, longer than you've been alive. There are tons and tons of comics you've probably never heard of. The reason why Lewis Black and Leary were only ranked 50 and 51 is because they have a limited comedy routine and are still fairly new, obviously not as new as others, but newer compared to Flip Wilson, Joan Rivers, Henny Youngman and Freddy Pinze, just to name a few from Wednesday's show.... They are also angry comics... thats pretty much it. The top comics will probably be comics who are very versatile. Probably also smart comics, although I'm sure we'll see some goofy ones along the way. Hedberg has yet to be mentioned. I also doubt he'll be listed, but you never know. Ranking stand up is like ranking every movie ever made.... there is just so much to chose from and there too many genres that appeal to certain people over the others. I bet the top comic will be soley stand up, meaning probably no TV or movie stuff, or limited TV and movie stuff, very versatile in their act, and probably someone who has been around a long time and who is highly respected among the comics of today and of their time. I also wonder if Carrot Top will be mentioned.... Joan Rivers is funny. I don't care what you think of her now, in her time she was absolutely hillarious. And most stand ups are Jewish.... I should convert and become famous lol. Bob Hope got mentioned tonight. I was rather surprised to see him listed this early. Looks like the top 20 will consist of the following people among others: David Letterman Eddie Murphy Rodney Dangerfield Steve Martin Chris Rock Woody Allen Ellen Degeneres Bill Cosby Rosanne Barr Richard Pryor Jerry Seinfeld George Carlin So who will be #1? I am willing to bet it'll George Carlin or Jerry Seinfeld, even though I don't like him. I dunno how David Letterman could be ranked higher than Jay Leno...
  10. The list so far is as follows: 100. Gallagher 99. Janeane Garofalo 98. Louis C.K. 97. Sandra Burnheart 96. Joey Bishop 95. Andrew Dice Clay 94. David Allen Grier 93. George Wallace 92. Louis Anderson 91. Jim Breuer 90. Dana Carvey 89. Kevin James 88. Paula Poundstone 87. Brette Butler 86. Jay Mohr 85. David Cross 84. Drew Carrey 83. Norm McDonald 82. Howie Mandell 81. Dick Gregory 80. Bobby Slayton 79. Dom Irrerra 78. Sedric the Entertainer 77. Paul Reiser 76. Robert Schimmer 75. Eddie Izzard 74. Paul Rodriguez 73. Elaine Boosler 72. Bernie Mac 71. Red Buttons 70. Wanda Sykes 69. Pat Cooper 68. Dave Attel 67. Kevin Pollock 66. Sheley Burman 65. Sinbad 64. Richard Belzer 63. Jackie Mason 62. Eddie Griffin 61. Bobcat Golthwait There are few people who make me laugh with everything they say.... so far those people are Wanda Sykes, Paula Poundstone, and Eddie Izzard. I think all three of them should have been way higher than they are. People who I expect to see high up whom I really like... Margaret Cho, George Carlin (whom I believe will be #1 or #2) It seems they don't soley focus on the stand up of the comedians as much as just them and what they've done. Take Eddie Griffin.... I've seen liek one stand up with him and more movies. They didn't even clip him when they mentioned him. Robin Williams has great stand ups. He's so much better in a stand up than he is in movies. Billy Crystal, Cosby, and Seinfield I don't like, but have a feeling they will be ranked high One person I'd also like to see ranked is Mitch Hedberg.
  11. I usually go to the movies to watch movies.... Anyway, I go for entertainment. I don't see specific movies because of specific people or specific plots. If it looks interesting and worth 5-9 of my well earned dollars, I may go see it.
  12. No, I don't think anyone hear at all could possibly like Lord of the Rings.... It is also nice to see such a fan like yourself knows what awards the movie won....
  13.
In Japanese Ringu the people that died from the video looked TERRIBLE. They just had their mouths open and thats it.
Thats what they were supposed to look like. They added all those effects in the American one beause of two reasons: a) They had more money b) Because it was their own ideal to make them look like the girl. The japanese Ring was on a limited budget of not more than 1 million dollars, which isn't much in movies. There was no need to have any special effects on the people who simply died because of fear.... the American version added effects like they were decaying.... which simply isn't true... The American version changed alot of things... I think Samara or whatever her name was in the American one looked alot scarier, but thats again due to the effect.... I personally think when she walked out of the TV in the Japanese one was the creepiest thing I've seen in a while... I was not expecting that.
  14. Silence of the Lambs is more of a psychological thriller than a horror The Halloween series The Ring series Candyman Blair Witch Project
  15. Maybe she just isn't used to being a less than supporting character. I don't think she should be critisized so much for complaining about her part. I thought she did well for what she was written for. I didn't notice any significant carelessness in her acting either.
  16.
If she didn't want to be in the movie, knowing full well that it would at least be a trilogy from the start, she shouldn't have gotten involved in my opinion. I've heard nothing about that angle to the story, personally. It wasn't that she didn't want to be in it, she wanted to be in it more. She complained of her lack of lines in the second film. All the news I've read points to her simply wanting to play more a role in the movie. She wanted to be even more of a main character than she already was. It seems more like her ego, honestly, as Storm is not all that popular compared to some of the other X-Men in the film, nor has she ever been the main character. No one really is, although it obviously focuses on some more than others. I can't say I feel bad for her reasoning to not be in it as I find it selfish. I don't feel she was suited for the role in the first place and her acting in both films wasn't exactly imprressive. She can go on to make such gems as Catwoman where she wears barely any clothes instead. Lord knows it'll make people think more highly of her average acting ability.
Well I don't think there was a trilogy planned when they made the first movie. Usually whena trilogy is planed, they have some sort of plot ideas for each movie and they are still flip-flopping on their ideals for the third movie. You can't really blame Berry's preformance when she wasn't written well. She had very few lines in both films, significantly less than Hugh Jackman or Ian McKellen. It was just how her character was written. You can't put on a star preformance when your character isn't written that well. Its like saying Collosus wasn't very good in X2... he had a cameo at best. I dunno, I wasn't particularly looking for a great preformance from her character anyway... it's Storm...
  17. Halle Berry's character wasn't as good in X2 because she simply didn't want to do the movie. She won't be in 3 or 4 when they come out. If I didn't want to be in a movie, I wouldn't put much effort into it. She's only in it because they wanted to keep the original cast.
  18.
TN, you're not even worth my time, then, if you insist on displaying that attitude. If you reply to me and criticize me, then I reply with a sound and logical basis and reasons to defend myself, to which you reply with "I don't care about what you think," then you obviously lack some very important social skills. TN, the world does not revolve around you, nor does it revolve around me. At least I have the common courtesy to explain myself with a detailed analysis and to debate with a point-by-point rebuttal, as to be as thorough as possible. You, on the other hand, refuse to engage in any meaningful discussion of anything, and outright ignore and disregard what others say. "I don't care what you think." TN, step off. You're nothing special.
If i'm not worth your time, stop wasting it replying to me. You saying that you've written about this and that and whatnot is not a logical reason to defend yourself. The whole topic behind this is not Event Horizon or the fact you're a huge nerd, but the fact you went around in the second post of this topic and in a completely demeaning way dismissed everything Chibihorsewoman said, as if you knew everything about movies and she knew nothing. Now if anyone can see otherwise, I'd like them to post here telling me so, cause thats the way i read it and I found that to be rude, unprofessional, and completely uncalled for. Therefor, I figured to throw it right back in your face telling you I don't care what you've written about. And I don't care what you think about the movie Event Horizon cause thats the same attitude you gave in your second post of this topic, I'm just acting the same way you are. Maybe you missed that...
I have a feeling that you are all talk. TN, I'm offering you the chance to prove me wrong in a most major way here. I'm giving you an opportunity to assert your superiority in this situation. If you indeed know more than I do, prove it. Put your money where your mouth is and let's see what you can do. Otherwise, you're just blowing hot air here and have no basis for argument.
What else can I be on a message board but all talk? Do you want me to pysically kick your ***? Come on, get serious. And whats proving you wrong? I'm not trying to prove you wrong, I'm trying to point out that you were doing the same thing to chibihorsewoman as I was to you. Where do you get this silly idea that I'm trying to point out I'm better than you? Thoughts on movies are completely opinionated... You can't say that a movie sucked by fact, thats just doesn't make sense... it's all opinion and I can't prove an opinion wrong. I can only show it to be stupid, rude, unprofessional, ignorant, arrogant, and all ther adjectives.
So, go for it, TN. Go for my jugular vein. Let's see if you've got what it takes to analyze Event Horizon, debunk my points, and prove me wrong.
Nah, no thanks, I won't waste your time anymore...
You actually missed the reason why I used that. It's a professor's catchphrase here at Rutgers. You thought I was being condescending. Nope. It's a nice way to close out a subject.
Well without that information, how was I supposed to take that comment? You expect me to know that this saying is used by some professor as Rutgers? I'm not a psychic. It's a rude way to close a subject and the subject is never closed unless both parties decide they are done with it. Maybe your professor needs a lesson in manners cause apparently he has none.
You're judging an actor on a 2-minute preview?
::sigh:: Maybe you missed the fact I said he sucked in the entire movie of Spider-Man, and then in the 2-minutes preview of SM2... Just forshadowing his acting ability throughout the whole movie.
TN, what performances do you like? You had mentioned X2? Let's compare Spiderman to X2, then.
You're right, I did mention X2, however I didn't meantion anything about the acting in X2. I was simply stating that I though X-Men and X2 were the only decent movies based off a comic book. I thought the acting in Daredevil was good, but the plot and everything else sucked. I found it incredibly boring. There was something about the Hulk I didn't like either, I dunno exactly what it was but I didn't find the movie terribly enjoyable. And Hellboy... The two best characters in that movies had supporting roles... The main character was boring, predictable.... the plot was interesting when talking about the gates of hell being open and even to the extent of Hellboy's character, but besides that, it was like any of other comic book movie. That and it had several plot holes and didn't explain all the charcters to the audience. I just didn't find it terribly enjoyable.
Just a question for you, could it be possible that you hate the performances in Spiderman because Spiderman features a predominantly teenage cast, while X2 is predominantly adults? You do have a thing against the majority of teenage movies. Just a thought.
If you read my posts, I never said I didn't like the acting in teenage movies, although they tend to be below par, but it was the plot I couldn't stand. How interesting can a plot on cheerleading be? Exactly my point. It is there to appease the horny teenage boy. I'm not a teenager, and I'm certainly not horny for some nasty slutty teenage girl. Anyway, I could list off several movies which involve teengers or kids that I enjoyed if you like? (Harry Potter, L.I.E., The Cure... i can't think of anymore off the top of my head, if I did some more research I could find more) I didn't like the acting in Spider-Man. I thought it could have been tons better if they had cast it better or if they have spent a little more time with acting coachs. I'm not telling you your opinion is wrong, I'm showing you how you treated Chibihorsewoman. You completely disregarded her opinion and then told her to come back with films she understood because he interpretation was different than yours. Its a matter of opinion and your opinion isn't the truth of the land.
  19.
Tell me, TN, do you read my MyO at all?
Nope, don't care one bit either. I don't care if you're the geekiest person in the world, that doesn't mean you can go around telling me what sci-fi movie sucked or didn't suck. I honestly don't care what you've wrote about. You can write about whatever all you want, that doesn't mean you understand it anymore than I do. It just means you have too much time on your hands to write about it. Do you want a cookie for all the crap you've written about, if so I'll be glad to mail you one.
My dislike of Event Horizon is not based on some misunderstanding of sci-fi, or lack of intelligence on my part. I watch Event Horizon and find an inferior, heavy-handed religious indoctrination. You mention how you have the plot figured out, so do enlighten me then, please. If you'd be so kind, also explore the themes presented in the movie.
No your dislike of Event Horizon is purely based on the fact you spent your time finding all the negatives in the movie and never focused on what was good. And I never said I figured out any plot, I said I enjoyed the plot. I don't need to figure something out to enjoy it. I'm sorry, i tried to be nice inmy responce to you, something that normally wouldn't happen, but you didn't appreciate that either. And with the rude comment you posted after all that, I can't help but see that you're obviously stuck up on your opinion and aren't any interested in hearing mine, so I won't give you the pleasure of it anymore concerning Event Horizon. On that note I'd like to point out it is a movie... get over it. I don't care if you think it's crap, but you don't need to chastize someone else cause they like movies you don't. Thats being unprofessional and makes your opinion look more and more unimportant everytime you do so. Thanks very much, bye.
I suppose, then, that Willem Dafoe can't act? Platoon? Last Temptation of Christ? Born on the Fourth of July? Shadow of the Vampire? Finding Nemo, even? I've never seen Tobey Maguire give a lousy performance. He was excellent in Pleasantville. He plays the geekboy extremely well. He did quite well in WonderBoys, as well.
Perhas if you stopped dwelling in the philosophical meanings of sci-fi films you'd be able to understand the art of acting. Just because one actor is good in one movie, doesn't mean he can't possibly suck in any other movie. Watch Spider-Man again, all the acting was below par. Watch the preview to Spider-Man 2... that whole scene in the restaurant is horrible. "Do you love me Peter?"... ".....no....".... ugh.... how unbelievably crappy can you get!?. I've not seen worse acting in a long time. I'm not saying Willam Dafoe or Toby Maguire aren't good in other movies, he just was absolutely horrible in Spider-Man. So was the majority of the cast. They focused more on plot than they did on acting. It didn't raise all that money because it had good acting, it raised all that money cause it had a good plot.
  20.
Care to enlighten me then? It's one thing to just tell somebody they missed the point, but it's something good when you show them what they missed. TN, be my guest. Show me what I misunderstood about Event Horizon.
Event Horizon, as someone said above, is either the worst thing you've seen, or one of the best sci-fi films. I thought it was a good film. I don't think it's the worst thing ever. I found the plot to be in depth, confusing, and for the type of person that was interested in figuring things out in a movie. The movie's target genre is an intelligent sci-fi nerd who would take the time to try to figure it out, you're obviously not that genre if you didn't like it. Certain movies are made for certain people, like I said about those ridiculous movies like Bring it On.... they are targeted at stoned, dumb high school kids and only stoned, dumb high school kids would even remotely enjoy those kinds of movies. And only a person who appreciates sci-fi fims mixed with a little mystery and horror would appreciate Event Horizon. I appreciated it because I took the time to sit and watch it and enjoy the true plot of the story that apparently you never took the time to figure out. Probably cause you were too busy pointing out how corny this and that was... The same thing applied to alot of sci-fi films it seems. Some people just don't get them. I never saw what was so horribly bad about Battlefield Earth, yet for some reason it was so absolutely horrible to everyone else.... I'd like to say also that most of the recent movies based on comic book heros are really bad. Spider Man, The Hulk, Daredevil, Hellboy were all absolutely horrid. The Spider Man plot was ok but the complete lack of acting ability in the movie ruined it..... X-Men and X2 were the only decent ones based off a comic.
  21.
Event Horizon. I can't begin to describe how atrocious this movie was. It had a brilliant premise. The opening 20 or 30 minutes were excellent. Then they began to beat us over the head with this religious spin and the movie just fell apart. It was an exceptional set-up for a sci-fi film: research vessel disappeared in space without a trace left at all. Then after many years, it reappears. Damn it...too much rhyming. I'm fine with religion in cinema, even in sci-fi. But what Event Horizon did was crossing the line.
Sam Neill speaking Latin at the end, his eyes gouged out, becoming the Satan figure[/spoiler']...just corny, and not the good corny, either. Within the first 45 minutes, the movie just fell into the common sci-fi horror cliches. Dreadful film. Any message of coping with fear and understanding emotion was buried under a pretentious high drama. The characters' backstories were pure camp. I didn't feel for any of them.
You should take your own advice. Come back when you actually understand the movies you don't like. Its too hard to list my worst movies. I don't like alot of movies. I'm not one for favourites, therefor i can't have my worst. I either like it or I don't. There are probably severaly hundred movies I don't like, some of those being independent films that most of you haven't heard of. As far as recent films, I can name some of the ones I didn't particularly care for. The Haunted Mansion - just stupid, as are most live-action Disney movies (with the exception of Pirates....). I fell asleep in the movie, that says enough for me. Scooby-Doo - It was bad enough with the cartoon, I don't need to see idiots pretending they are real. Certainly don't need to see two movies either... Bring it On, Drumline, Glitter, Honey, Save the Last Dance, Blue Crush, or any other horrible teen chick flick with cute guys, idealist girls, and a simplistic plot that only appeases the simple minded, stoned, dumb high school kid who doesn't know the difference between a soda can and potato chips.

    Hmmmmm

Charts? The big chart we have here is the billboard chart, and thats dominated by pop, rap and R&B groups... these are considered popular genres, therefor the board is often called a pop board.... now why would you see rock bands on a pop chart? Rock bands make it to number 1 all the time.... on the rock charts.... In Japan, its the same deal. Except rock bands usually make it to number 2 right behind some pop group. Rock is simply much more popular in Japan than it is here.
  23. They must have done a crappy job at marketing the movie cause it looks like a load of horse S from the previews... However, jusging from what the majority, well pretty much all of you said, it is pretty good. I won't pay 6 bucks to see it, but I may see it eventually.
  24. This is one of the movies, as with most, if not all of M. Night Shyamalan's movies, that involve alot of thinking on part of the audience member. The way MNS does his movies is very in dept. A normal movie-goer who goes to laugh at stupid jokes or see guns shooting for 2 hours would not understand or enjoy this type of movie. It's simply too involved for them. I enjoyed it. Alot... I enjoy all of MNS's movies. There was something about it that just had greatness to it. It was never what you expected it to be, but that expectation never fell short of greatness. I thought the plot was very well written, far beyond any other movie of its kind. And the acting was just what it needed to be, not great, but not crappy. It was good. I can't wait for MNS's new movie "The Village"
  25. Well it all depends on what beauty you refer to. There is a sexual, lustful beauty and then there is a genuine aesthetic beauty. Each has its different values ofcourse. I could onluy comment on the aesthetic beauty of women, since i have no interest in the previous form.
