1. This... is an excellent idea! Count me in! I'll try to get Luminaire to join in, too. Thanks to Syk3 for tracking me down on Facebook. XD
 2. I was looking through some very old bookmarks, found one for OB and decided, "what the hell, I'll see what's happened to it." I remember the Digimon forum so well, and a lot of the shenanigans that went on. Hell, I even have some posts saved as word docs - mostly things like Cera's tribute to the show as it was ending and stuff like that. Every time I think about the new series, I find my fondness intertwined with my memories of OtakuBoards - the good, the bad, and the dramatic. ^_~ Glad to see this place still alive, though. :) (My only questions is how can I do a custom text color - mine was always hex code #9933FF, and this is not it! Although, I can't believe I REMEMBER the hex code!) Edit: By the way, I'm pretty sure I remember a time when Allamorph was a new member. ;) Unless I'm confusing you with someone else. Did you ever have a different username?
 3. Oh man! I remember those days back when Digimon had its own forum and a thread of over like 50 pages. Those were the days. :) Good times, good times...
 4. Hey! Someone spammed by PM, and I decided that was a good reason as any to pop in and say hello. (Especially since I've been thinking of OB lately, huh...) Reading the names in this thread makes me smile - I remember all of you! Hopefully you remember me: I was "MistressRoxie" for a long time. If not, please tell me you remember this obnoxious font color. :P The appearance of OB is so different! Different software, different layout. I never thought I'd see a layout with a "bright" color like orange. James was always so partial to shades of blue and gray. ;)
 5. So..... I'm currently procrastinating on a ten page paper due tomorrow. I hate the class, I dislike the teacher because I'm under the impression she doesn't like me, and I don't want to try in this class. Have you ever had a massive essay or paper due, and you just couldn't bring yourself to do it? Do you have any tricks or mind-games for slogging through the work? What's the longest paper you've ever written? Got any funny stories about an essay? Share those too. =) Aside from the current paper which I'm hating on, the longest one I've ever written was 18 pages - 20 with citations (yeah, I had a lot). The weirdest time writing a paper was for a final several years ago (pulled an all nighter) when the fire alarm went off twice that night. =/
 6. DIGIMON FORUMS!!!! I remember you. ^^ I was MistressRoxie back then. =P Good times, good times.
 7. The lovely Syk3 and I met up at Otakon, and I have *exactly* one picture with him (too bad we didn't take more). I also met his very nice girlfriend, whom I don't have a picture of. =( I'm also cosplaying Mello from Death Note in this picture... 8. Sabrina - I am unfamiliar with the "George" reference, alluding to someone who gets into everything. Who are you referring to? ;_; (The cat sounds cute, by the way, which is why I ask. ^^)
 9.
In all of iTunes's infinite wisdom, they created a file type that does not work for most media players outside of iPods. Talk about wanting to create brand loyalty  . I've tried some programs and they really don't help if you have to convert the files to MP3's, since they lose a generation going down a level.
That must be why I've never heard of an .m4a file type until yesterday - I've never owned an ipod, and I've never used itunes. The brand loyalty is also both ingenius (on the part of apple) and completely frustrating at the same time (for everyone else). Thanks for the info. ^^
Unless you plan on venturing into the expensive world of high-quality audio, I personally don't think there's any reason to use any file but mp3. It's far and away the most popular and well-supported, and the quality and compression are more than good enough for your average listener.
This is probably the best answer ever. Keeping everything in mp3 just makes life easier. Also, thank you for the advice on using itunes, should I need to convert a file. Sankyuuu. Des: You are just a font of knowledge, you know that? ;) Really, though, I appreciate all of the explanations and wikipedia links. I looked over them and everything makes a lot more sense, now. I would use winamp, but the extensive library function on it turns on the OCD in me, and I decided a long time ago, for the protection of my sanity, to just give up on organizing my music six ways sideways from Sunday by forgoing a library altogether. However, the player that I do use (Quintessential Player - which supports mp3, wma, and vorbis), has a plug-in for AAC, which I just downloaded, and my shiny new .m4a song is playing quite nicely, so I'm happy about that. Thanks again!
 10. When I was born, I had a cat that was older than me by a year or two. She was a Maine Coon, and grey, so we called her "Smokey." Apparently one of my sister's teachers had a cat who had kittens, or something, and that's how we got the cat. She was really adorable, but very, very lazy. And... well, perhaps not fat, but very fluffy, with all of her long fur. She liked my mom the most (probably because my mom fed her), but my mom's actually allergic to cats. She died when I was 13 (she was having surgery, woke up from it, and promptly had a heart attack). Now we have a dog, a Shih-Tzu that may have some Bichon Frise in him. He's a little pudgy, but oh so adorable! He only has one eye, though. The other one collapsed at birth or something. He's mostly white with a few light brown spots, and his name is Snuffy - short for Snuffalupagus. ^^
 11. Uh, just what the title says. I basically don't know anything about music file formats other than mp3 (I'm not counting midi), and I was wondering if anyone had more information about a few things. What types of files are most common, and do they serve certain purposes or anything? Onto the next question, I just bought my first song off of itunes (Welcome to the 21st century, Roxie?). I bought it on my mother's mac and transferred it to my PC (damn, it took a long time to find the file on that mac!). And apparently it comes in an .m4a format, which my favorite music player - Quintessential player - doesn't play. I can either get a new player, or a new file format. I'm actually tempted to get a new player, but before I do, I wanted to know, is there any way to convert the .m4a to another format (like .mp3 or whatever) without losing any of the quality? I don't want my 6.8MB .m4a file to get squished to 3.4MB .mp3 and sound like anything less than it is now. Which leads me to my next question. What is the difference in quality? In your opinion, does the average person notice, or will they only notice with state-of-the-art speakers/headphones/whatever? What is considered the "standard" bit rate and what could be considered "CD quality"? I understand that the downside to quality is space issues, but I'm not worried about that. I'm more concerned with getting a file (that plays) that sounds like a CD. And uh, thanks in advance for answering my very, very silly questions. ^^
 12. Drizz: it is indeed a '67 Impala. (And I don't even watch the show - I just read the fanfiction. XD) Nerdsey: That would be the best vehicle ever. ;_; ILU. My dream car is a green-blue porsche (four door), with a convertible roof. I don't know crap about cars or model numbers, but I want that kind of porsche.
 13.
Anyway, he tells me they actually work pretty hard to prepare the food for the students. Maybe you should try being a bit grateful instead of finding things to complain about. It's really discouraging that you judge them by their appearance anyway.
There's always going to be impolite people, but I'd say that half or more than half of the kids at my college are polite to the workers in the dining hall. Those are the ones who take the time to say "Hello, how are you?" to the ladies who swipe your ID card (Ms. Ann and Maria (at my school), and they say "thank you" to the food servers, and chat with the breakfast guy making eggs. And anyone who judges them based on their work uniform (half of which is intended for sanitary purposes) is a jerk.
 14. I just saw the movie for the second time today, and I just wanted to say that the aesthetics of it were beautiful. I kind of felt that way the first time I saw it, but on the second viewing, I had more time to appreciate the details. The CGI work is fantastic. I love the spiraling panning shots that it makes when it zooms out and frames the whole Enterprise in outerspace. And the tiny little ship
that Spock pilots
is really really beautiful. In the way that the firefly ship (crossing fandoms now) is supposed to remind you of a firefly, this tiny ship reminds me of a dragonfly or some other beautiful insect (yes, I think dragonflies are pretty). My mom (whom I saw it with) also said she loved the music. Before she said anything about the actors or the plot she said, "The music was great." I have to agree. There were maybe one or two scenes where the music was too obvious
like when Kirk and Sulu are fighting on the drill
, but for the most part the music was done well, and intergrated well into the movie (
the sound mixing in the beginning when she's giving birth to Kirk and George is fighting off the Romulans - they muted the sound so that just the music is playing with the images. The effect is tremendous
).
 15.
People complain about quality of high school/college food too much.
Agreed. People always complain about the food at my college, when in fact, it's better than most (if not all) of the other major four year colleges in my state. There's always hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, or if you want something healthy, a salad bar or a sandwich bar, a waffle maker, and if you don't like any of that, we have twenty-nine different cereals, and whole, skim, 2%, chocolate, soy, and lactaid milk to choose from. So it bugs me when everyone at my school says there's nothing to eat (of course, I've been guilty of saying that, occasionally). You just have to be creative!
