Not that it's a big deal or anything, Sandy, and it's not going to really hinder the progression of the RP, but I'm just being difficult. You stated that Madea's parents were both in Gryffindor, but I alwasy thought that Penelope Clearwater had been in Ravenclaw... I could be wrong, but just thought I'd say something.
You're right, I checked. XD I didn't even think of the possibility of her being in a different house than her long time boyfriend... I will make the needed changes. Thanks, Darr!

Medea Weasley gave a corteous hug to her parents just before she was about to board the Hogwarts Express. Her father, Percival, hoisted her large trunk and the cage of Cinderby, her ash-grey owl up to the train, while her mother, Penelope, straightened her robe's collar. "There, now you look suitable for school", Penelope Weasley-Clearwater said with a smile that tried to be gentle. "Uh, you've got everything with you, right?" Percy Weasley asked awkwardly, knowing all too well that he had asked the same question half a dozen times already. Medea wanted to sigh. Those were her parents; always so formal, always so distant. She was rather glad to enter her third year at school - another year spent away from the strictness of her home. Not far from them was a noisy bunch consisting of half a dozen of cheery children and their beaming, proud parents escorting them into the train. It was hard to imagine that Medea's family was closely related to that group, the other Weasleys and Potters. The families did get along, they just weren't very close. Medea's cousins - Fred, James, Rose, Albus Severus, Lily, Hugo - were like any other students in the school to her. Gryffindors, the whole bunch of them. Just like Medea's father had been. She alone bore the burden of shame. She, the sole Weasley sorted into Slytherin. But she refused to be ashamed. Saying final goodbyes to her parents, she climbed the train, took her owl's cage into one hand and the trunk into the other, and entered the Slytherin carriage. There she felt like home, among those friendly faces. So what if she had a trace of "mudblood" in her? The Slytherin House, she felt, had long since gotten past those issues. Let her cousins worship the red and gold of the Gryffindor, she was perfectly at home among the green and silver.

dMage, although I'm still not the gamemaster of this RPG, I found that there's a big problem with your character. See, this game takes place about 20 years after the Deathly Hallows (and 1 year after the epilogue), so Lupin and Tonk's son Teddy would be 20 in this. So there's no way he could have a 16 year old son, you see? ;D

Discuss Star Ocean: Till the End of Light [Preview][PG-VLS]
Sandy replied to Aberinkula's topic in Theater
It was was very enjoyable game, the elements worked together and it was a blast to play.
That is highly debatable. I found the characters irritating (except Cliff and Albel, mmm... -
We'd probably need to work out some kind of timetable for each year to prevent people posting about being in whatever class they please, just to the sake of streamlining everything.
I don't know... Does it really matter? Now that I think of it, consistent and strict schedules would only do more damage to the enjoyability of the game than really give anything to it. So what if people post about participating to the DADA class almost every day? Or if students from different years happen to go to the same class some time? What's a little inconsistency compared to a flowing, involving story? If someone's bothered by inconsistency, they can always use this thread to communicate with the other players. "I'm going to a Herbology class with my character next, so those in my year can follow my lead." or "Gryffindor Quidditch practice coming up, so stay away from the training field, other houses!". Wouldn't that work?
I normally play females so I don't see a problem in that area, but for those who do, perhaps the Ladies could have a partner group that are men? I'm not really sure what you were thinking but that could be an idea.
Wouldn't that break the concept, really? I was talking about maybe one male supporting character, not a whole group. It shouldn't be called "Ladies of London" anymore if that was to happen, but "Ladies & Gentlemen of London", heh. ;D I have no trouble playing female characters, myself. I think I've been pretty equal with my characters' genders. Also, this is roleplaying, so people shouldn't be afraid to take the side of the other sex every once in a while - who knows, you might learn something while doing so. ;D Talking about "not doing justice" to a gender is downright silly, isn't it, since we're all individuals, not stereotypes. A man can be a muscular stud or a skinny nerd or an average Joe, so why couldn't that apply to women as well? And now I feel like I'm getting sidetracked. Just be sure to get this game going and don't worry about silly things like whether people are going to be interested, Jamesy! You won't know until you try... ;P
-
*gets a moment of awareness* Oh! This is what it's all about! That Art Studio -thread really put me wondering about it... ;D Good pre-marketing, Jamesy! Hmm, it really is a very intriguing idea, and I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking that. There's one minor suggestion from me, though:
Much like a real-life TV show, however, if the player for a main character wanted to quit?we could have another player take over that character and make it their own.
Instead of this solution, since we are talking about a "reality-tv"-show here, the game should have a changing cast. If someone quits, the group will get a whole new member (a rookie or a transferring Lady from another country etc.) - just like in Charlie's angels. That way you won't have problems with the clashing personality of one character when she's played by the new player. (Also, I'd personally hate to take over a character that someone else has created and played with, since it would feel like I wouldn't have any control over it myself).
This format could really offer a lot of freshness and variety to the story and help it to develop a lot over time. The first villain might be cold and serious, the next one might be utterly ridiculous ? think of it as being set in a serious yet hyper-real environment (like Kill Bill or Pulp Fiction).
Or like the Powerpuff Girls! XD In one season (if the game gets far), the villains portrayed thus far should definitely band together against the Ladies. Oh, what about men? Is there going to be a Bosley-type of character? Or will the roles be strictly divided between the Ladies and the Villains?

I'll make my own character's curriculum now. All third-graders are free to use it too. ;D
Monday: Herbology Herbology - lunch - History of Magic Charms Tuesday: Transfiguration DADA - lunch - Potions Potions Wednesday: Charms Charms - lunch - Potions DADA - freetime - Astronomy* Thursday: Herbology DADA - lunch - Transfiguration Transfiguration Friday: History of Magic History of Magic - lunch - Muggle Studies** Divination**
*) Astronomy classes are always held on nights, this is canon. ;D **) Optional classes seem to have only one class for each subject. This information is gathered from the Harry Potter Lexicon.
Bah, I do Hogwarts a favour by giving them an animated, hell living, history teacher and I get told people prefer Binns. You all suck. :animesmil
But having a ghost as a teacher IS much more interesting than, well, another human. ;P I'm all for variety in the NPCs, but really, they're not that important considering this game. Which by the way should start already! XP

If it's alright with you, Lionheart, I'd like my character (Medea Weasley) to be the daughter of Percy Weasley and Penelope Clearwater, just to tie her to the other Weasleys and Potters running around the school better (she'd be their cousin). Also, Rowling has revealed that
George Weasley has a son named Fred (duh!). Maybe he could be attending the school as well? And Bill and Fleur have two children younger than Victoire mentioned in the book (who should already be out of there by now).
PS. Gavin! You can't boot Binns! >:/ What a blasphemy! Heh, seriously, I think there's already enough female faculty, if all of Darren's suggestions were taken into account... XP There's like five men left, whereas Rowling has specified that the staff is usually quite equally divided between genders. And no, I'm not a raving fanboy - my boyfriend is and he's got me infected. XP

Just add a Death Card and you have yourself a new Labyrinth/Maze/Panopticon. ;D Great stuff, I love how eeeevil I am. >;D
What qualities do you look for in an Otakupedia article? Would you rather the tone be more informative, or conversational? Can you link us to examples of articles that you approve of? -Shy
Absolutely not (for the linking). I'm not looking for anything particular, it all depends on the subject you're given. You need to make the type of an article that fits it - fail to do that and you just might lose the challenge. We're way too far into the game for me to hold your hands, sorry. ;P
that looks about right. Thankd Sandy for clearing it all up. Yes, I would like If you would make a couple of the teachers Sandy if you don't mind. If not, then I'll get to work on it.
Or maybe we should wait if someone wants to sign-up as a teacher, like Gavin. I think the likes of Sinistra and Vector are dispensable over original characters, as well. And now I feel like I'm taking over your game, Lionheart. Don't let it happen. XP Edit: Oh, the list is missing Bathsheba Babbling, the teacher of Ancient Runes. I think she?'s dispensable as well. ;P
I am a little unclear as to how this works. If I understand correctly, the Aces will assign us a topic, and I assume that you have to approve it right? And then we will turn around and give them one? Assuming that within say a week both of us will have a topic that we will work on at the same time?
Well, the sooner you come up with a topic, the sooner you can start working on the article. Month is not a very long time, mind you. Oh, and you can freely start discussing options as the topic for the Aces, you just can't post it here before they have posted theirs.
And when you say reviews, when those are posted is it a review done by the whole team? As in each team captain will after consulting with their teammates post it to the main thread? Or is each team member expected to post a review separately to this thread? I'm assuming it's one review that we all work on and I post as the team captain.
One review to this thread before the end of August, please. It doesn't need the effort of every member of the team, though, if someone's not showing their face for the duration of the challenge.
Also, I'm sure I understand you correctly, but by entirety you meant that if we were to win every single Ace would be evicted and vice versa? :animestun
Exactly. *evil grin*

Here's some suggested edits:
Teachers: - Professor Neville Longbottom, Herbology, Head of Gryffindor - Professor Cuthbert Binns, History of Magic - Firenze, Divination - Rubeus Hagrid, Care of Magical Creatures - Professor Septima Vector, Arithmancy - Original Character, Muggle Studies (Head of Hufflepuff?) - Professor Aurora Sinistra, Astronomy - Original Character, Charms (Head of Slytherin?) - Original Character, Potions - Professor Alexander Corvidae, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Head of Ravenclaw - Professor Minerva McGonagall, Transfiguration, Headmistress of Hogwarts (yay!)
So there's still spots for the Heads of Hufflepuff and Slytherin. I can come up with some original characters for teachers, if you don't want to do it yourself, Lionheart. ;D
Do the Aces give us a topic and then once Sandy okays it do we give them one and then we both work on our articles at the same time? I'm a little lost on the execution of this event to tell the truth.
No you're not. You got the right idea from the get-go. ;D Except I don't really have to "okay" the subjects, I just want to make sure that they're different enough from each other. One hint (and this goes for the Aces as well): choose the most difficult topic you can imagine.

I was thinking, if this game really take place 20 years after the events in Deathly Hallows
and thus one year after the epilogue of the book, then we'd have some "NPC"s jotted down already. Students: - James Potter, son of Harry and Ginny, 3rd or 4th year Gryffindor - Albus Severus Potter, son of Harry and Ginny, 2nd year Slytherin (or Gryffindor) - Rose Weasley, daughter of Ron and Hermione, 2nd year Gryffindor (or Ravenclaw?) - Scorpius Malfoy, son of Draco, 2nd year Slytherin - (Lily Potter and Hugo Weasley are still too young to attend) Teachers: - Neville Longbottom, herbology (head of Gryffindor?) - Cuthbert Binns, history of magic (he's a ghost so he's not going to retire) - (Firenze?, divination (he's a centaur, so he might live longer than humans)) - (Rubeus Hagrid?, care of magical creatures (c'mon, Hagrid's gotta be in this!))
Of course this is just my opinion how to follow the canon, you make the choices, Lionheart! ;D
-
Okay, these are all just superb, I have to say! Thanks to all of you! However, I haven't reached the final conclusion yet. As I've postponed the launch of the game, people still have time to contribute their stuff. At this moment, I feel drawn towards Hybrid Ninja's second logo (I adore the figures and the coloring, but the text could use some work, and the background could be transparent), and Satori's fan logo (the color and the text are perfect, but the image could be something more collective). If I could have a mixture of the two, I'd be perfectly happy. ;D
True enough,
but according to this article and Rowling herself, McGonagall isn't headmistress of future Hogwarts. And I still imagine many of the older teachers would have retired after the final battle, let the next generation pick up the slack so to speak.

I'm confused... What does the phrase "getting on a bit" mean, then?

Nineteen years after the Battle of Hogwarts, the school for witchcraft and wizardry is led by an entirely new headmaster (?McGonagall was really getting on a bit[/B']?) as well as a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.

-
As for staff
McGonagall is gone as well apparently by that stage, I'd imagine Flitwick would probably have retired too, unless he's become like Prof Binns. Actually by this stage Neville is the only known member of Hogwarts staff.

I disagree. Dumbledore lived for hundreds of years,
why couldn't McGonagall be the same? Rowling hints that she became the headmistress of Hogwarts after Snape's short term, and having her in this game would be great. But ultimately it's Lionheart's choice, we're not exactly going with canon material here. ;P
Thank you alot, Beth, you've been a great contestant and moral supporter. Alas, your luck ran out and you have to leave the game now. But now, we enter the most decisive challenge you've yet confronted. I give you... Tenth Challenge: Otakupedagogy Yes, this time both teams will get to contribute an article to the archives of OB history - Otakupedia. Here are more detailed rules:
1. Both teams will produce one article of undefined length for Otakupedia. The article will be posted to the Otakupedia-thread, not here. 2. I will not give you the subject, but your opposing team will. Of course, the subject cannot be the same for both teams, nor can you write about anything that's already covered in Otakupedia. The Aces, as the winners of the previous challenge, you get to choose first, after which the Sunflowers will pick you a subject. 3. There are no other restrictions to the subject given, except that it must relate to OtakuBoards, like all the other articles. 4. After both articles have been posted, the opposing team must review the article with the subject they chose, pointing out both flaws and positive points. I will make my judgment based on both my opinions about the articles as well as the reviews. The reviews should be sent to this thread. 5. There is a deadline to this challenge. Both articles and reviews should be sent before the end of August. 6. Now here's the decisive part: the losing team will be evicted in it's entirety. There will only be one team left after this challenge, and those team members will start competing against each other as individuals in the last few challenges. 7. However, the evicted members of the losing team will form the basis of the Jury of six, which will eventually decide the winner out of the final two contestants (with the result of a public poll being the seventh, tie-breaking vote).
Definitely something worth playing for, am I right? As usual, any questions you might have about the challenge or the future of the game will be answered here. Now, the Aces, what subject you want the Sunflowers to write an Otakupedia article about? For the tenth time, go Survivors!
-
Oh my... You and your dreams, Beth! XD But honestly, I wish I had the powers to do a challenge like that! So cool... *sighs in awe* I'll be looking forward to who will win. ;D

I'm sorry to say that this project will not commence any time soon. I have to set my priorities in a whole new order, with school starting in two weeks. But I will not abandon OBsession. Once I get past the craziest school period, I'll continue working on it. Hopefully I'm able to launch this sometime during the fall. Meanwhile, everyone's still encouraged to contribute things to this thread. I've only planned the missions and viruses up to levels 6-7, and the locations could use more details in them. OBsession will live on!
However the term Otaku is used to describe all these 30 years old basement dwellers (boys and girls) who never leaves their house, and spend all their money on anime and videogames merchandise and have absolutely no social life whatsoever.
Who says we aren't like that? People should learn some self-irony, it really helps in life. ;D
Sandy: That also I never really gave much thought. I have a storyline, but not knowing the years past after deathly hallows, thats plain stupidity on my part. I would say maybe 20 years, I should have posted that I wanted the same staff there from the books. Im sure they would still be there even though 20 years has past.
One specification, please: twenty years after the events of Deathly Hallows, or twenty years after the epilogue
(that takes place 19 years after the fight with Voldemort, and includes the main heroes' children attending Hogwarts).
It would be great to include the stuff from the epilogue
(such as Neville being the Herbology teacher)
, but everybody would have to read the book first (or spoil themselves) to know what happened in it. What say you, Lionheart?
