Ninth Challenge: Animania Welcome to the trickiest challenge you’ve yet faced, my dear Survivor candidates! Please read the rules extra carefully this time – just skimming through them might cause your entry to be disqualified. The theme of this challenge is a collaborative story in the style of anime/manga. Some individual players might shine on this one, while others might do lousily, all based on their knowledge about the subject. So you better use that knowledge to your advantage, teams! The Aces, since you won the last challenge, you get to write the first post. However, since you have one extra member, you will need to sit someone out. Make that decision before you start the challenge. Here’s how it’s going to work:
1. Each player from both teams will have only one post. 2. The teams will take turns to post, so there will be eight posts where every second one is from the same team. As said, The Aces will go first, then The Sunflowers, and so on. You can decide the order of posters inside the team by yourself. 3. The posts should, as said, form a continuous story with the same titular character who is given in the title after the rules. The same way the first post starts the story, the last post should end it. 4. Each post has a strict, exact limit of 500 words. Any posts with even one word less or more will be disqualified, sorry. 5. In order to win, you must include as many anime/manga clichés into your post as possible. Each cliché that I spot from the post will count as a point to your team. 6. You mustn’t highlight or emphasize the clichés you put into the post in any way, nor mention them in the Team Threads. Doing that will cause your post to be disqualified, as well. If I don’t spot one of your intended clichés, then I don’t. 7. You also shouldn’t repeat clichés mentioned in previous posts, I won’t give points from those. 8. When all eight contestants have posted, I will release the list of clichés I spotted, and count the points given from them. 9. The losing team will face the Team Council and evict one person out of their ranks. In the unlikely situation of a tie, both teams will go to the Team Council.
Now, if anything, anything was left unclear, please say so. It’s absolutely vital that you understood how this challenge works. The title of the story is: ~*Ditzy Witch Sasuka*~ Survivors, GO!!!

What kinds of threads are and are not appropriate for the Adventure Square?
Sandy replied to Gavin's topic in Help & Feedback
There were a lot of other issues in your latest attempt for an RPG than the missing back story, and you know it, Charles. I'm not even going to go there anymore, since I said everything I wanted already in the other thread here. But your last sentence alone proves that the two of us have very different points-of-view: "In summary, people should be able to post as they please as long as they are not in any serious violation of the rules." So now you're calling for artistic freedom? First it was just about fun and elevating the spirit of OB, and now suddenly your whole freedom of expression is threatened? I just don't get it how you fail to see what complete freedom does to a thread... I can tell you it isn't a pretty sight. Anyway, I'm sure that your Padded Room Party could have it's place in OB somewhere, but that place is not Adventure Square in it's current form. Maybe you should opt to revive Newbie Lounge? You know, the one you pulled down? Because that thread would fit there like a monkey to the zoo. -
What kinds of threads are and are not appropriate for the Adventure Square?
Sandy replied to Gavin's topic in Help & Feedback
As for the matter of Clandestine Clues, I want to say this: even though it's not an RPG by my definition, since it lacks the actual roleplaying element, it does have a background story of sorts to it, and the players are actually playing the roles of "OB detectives". So I don't have a problem with it being located at the Adventure Square. Actually, I'm kinda proud that Clurr decided to put that sort of a brilliant new game in there, instead of for example OL, to which it could've fitted just as well. The same goes for the Final Quest For Glory 2. In the beginning it was a loose cannon, where everybody posted anything they liked, but it had certain structure to it, certain motivation behind it, something which helped to keep it at bay. Now it has mostly found it's shape, and people are still enjoying it. So in my opinion the Adventure Square has been very open to new ideas and concepts, but one cannot expect everything to get through there. I personally don't want to see it become a playground for threads based solely on the idea of "let's see what comes of this, just post whatever you want". Roleplaying here is already a risky business as it is, you never know wether or not your thread is going to succeed or not. There's no need to take additional risks like that, since the probability of free posting turning into a spam is very high in this place, no matter how "quality boards" we consider ourselves. As a moderator of the Adventure Square, I really want to encourage people to test their ideas and bring new type of threads there. However, if you're thinking something really drastic, which would change the whole definition of the Adventure Square, you might want to check your idea first. Arena Underground is the perfect place to do that, I might add. -
You think I'm afraid to be banned? I was banned before and it means nothing to me, especially in the current state of these messageboards. So you can give me your vapid little threats from your mod position. I was a mod once, you know, lol. I am not afraid whatsoever. Ban me if you want to. Oh no.
But it wasn't a threat, Mitch, it was merely a statement. Anyway, if these boards mean nothing to you as you claim, then why on Earth are you wasting your time here? Doesn't a supreme mastermind such as yourself have anything better to do? Quit fooling yourself, we know you love this place. ;D
-
Oh, you know, my bad. Do you feel happy that you gave me a little jab? You'd better be careful when you're dancing with a left-handed wordboxer.
You might be a wordboxer, but he holds the Ban Hammer. I'd be the careful one in your position, Mitch. What comes to the absence of swear words, I didn't notice that either. It prooves how unused they really are in the Adventure Square. Nothing to make a fuss about.

And the results for the Team Council are up. The Sunflowers' votes were divided between three people: Aaryanna... You got one vote. And so did... SunfallE. But the one voted out with three votes is... Anomaly. Sorry, Alexa, it's time for you to leave this game. You are entitled to one final goodbye post to this thread. As for the rest of you, the nine remaining players will continue to the ninth challenge, which will launch before the end of this week. Before that, you can opt to change your Team Captains, if you so wish.

Well EXCUSE me for being on a trip to the rainy London. :P A guy takes a single day off the internet and people are already screaming at him... *rolls eyes* I'm certainly enjoying all this post-RPG-letting-out-the-steam-ambience. I knew that my "plotting" to save my characters from poisoning weren't good enough to convince anyone, but meh... Darren & DB, I'll send you PMs once I settle back in.
-
Wow, gone for a whole day and I miss two full pages of stuff. Well, I guess I should say congrats to the winner of the game, whoever owns Delita :p.
Yeah, I just realized as well that the winner hasn't been announced yet! How odd... Well, it sure as hell ain't me. I lost my Penny in Round Two, then my dear Dafine and finally Oromis not once, but twice! XP

So it's over. Everything being said and done, all I can say is that the crew sure knew how to end a series. It was awe-inspiring, bittersweet and dramatic - yet nothing over the top. And the lack of an epilogue was only positive for me, as I feel that "three months later" scenes would've seriously flattened the impact of the end. Great series, definitely the best anime I've ever watched (which isn't saying much, though, since I've only seen so few).

Otakupedia Entries/Suggestions/Discussion thread
Sandy replied to Charles's topic in General Discussion
For the record Ginny used to call me Meh.
How... appropriate. I remember that fad as well. Boy it got me confused when suddenly everybody were talking about "-eh"s - I didn't have clue who half of these nicknames belonged to! Well, I wasn't in the "circles" then... Not that I am much now, either, but I have managed to gather a little circle of my own. [/end of Sandy's reminiscing] -
Oh my... Tiana, you certainly took me by surprise. You've posted like no mod has ever posted before, and... I think I like your style. It's unique, it's you, and it just might work. The long post is a bit, well, long, and I bet you wouldn't have the diligence to always write such detailed posts (unless you did the old "copy&paste"-trick). So it's quite a read - entertaining, but somewhat off the point. Now, Anomaly, it seems you took the traditional route of being short and precise, which is just fine and dandy. I and most of the other mods use that tactic as well; it's simple, easy and understandable. However, because of that, it's not a very unique way. I have to ask, would it really be the way "you would handle the situation?", if you got to decide? Both replies are great and working, and nothing to be ashamed of, but since there's only one winner in this duel, for originality and putting yourself on the table, I hand the victory to Keyblade Wielder, and the Aces! Scoreboard: The Aces 3 - The Sunflowers 2 This means that after over a month, the eighth challenge is finally over! Aces, as winners of this round, you are all safe for the next challenge, so congratulations! What comes to the Sunflowers, we'll meet at the... Fifth Team Council The Sunflowers... Kathy, Bethany, Alexa, Darren, Beth... you unfortunately have to vote out one of your own ranks. Which friend will it be? It's time to vote, Survivors.
By magic we mean more of a Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings/OMG i am all powerful kind of thing, but it doesn't mean that it's all real all the time. I think we did mention that we encourage a supernatural aspect to the story, and a quest for an ancient relic can certainly be strange on so many levels. We want some things to be unexplainable, but we don't necessarily want to revert to fantasy stereotypes in order to make that happen - people can't use magic, but it doesn't mean that magical things can't happen. The relic is something we want to reveal through the course of the story, but for now let's just say that it does have value on more than a historical level. But it's just so old and mysterious, so there's no real way to know exactly what that is. I'm going to take this moment, too, to emphasize the fact that you don't necessarily have to join the RPG in order to contribute ideas. There will be a sign-up thread in the Inn in a few days, and between the two hopefully everyone can get a better idea of what we're aiming for.
It's good to hear that, Arcadia. ;D I just might contribute something in the near future, and hopefully you'll take it to be a part of your world. *walks off wondering what an OB MMORPG would be like*
-
I personally believe that the feeling, the phenomenon itself is true - I've had it several times in my life, and I still remember how I felt then - but I don't believe that all the moments that spark up the feeling have really happened before. I read about it somewhere, and the text said something about a "temporary lag in memory", which practically means that you experience the same moment twice in a row, during a split second. Imagine that you get scared by some people two times in a row. I think that's close to what déjà vu really feels like.
-
Hmm, so I got the third place this time, with my Oromis. Not bad, but I did better last time with Eflair... And cats should not be treated like that! *hiss* Good thing that it's almost over, now. This game was partially a blast, and partially a frustrating torture. I wouldn't want it any other way, though. ;D Now finish it up, DB!
-
An OB MMORPG? Finally! ;P I'm just worried about one thing: if there's no fantasy in the game, no magic, no monsters etc., won't it be quite a boring adventure? If you compare it to Indiana Jones, then what are the players supposed to do? Dodge pitfalls and traps? Travel a few weeks on a steamtrain to get anywhere? Doing sidequests like in videogame RPGs aren't necessarily the most interesting thing to write about, either... I don't mean to insult your idea, it really is a grandiose one, and I really hope it succeeds, but for me, personally, adventure and realism don't mesh well together. PS. If there is no magic in the world, then how come they are after the relic then? What's so important about it in that case, if the assumed historical value is taken out of it?
-
These are all posts from one thread, right? So it's one reply as opposed to several separate ones going towards each individual?
Does that really matter? You'll only have one reply, in any case, since double-posting is prohibited. ;P So basically, whatever you do, you're still replying to each individual in one post. Just... post, okay?
Okay, because I only want a limited number of RPers in this, here's what I'm doing... The First Offensive spots are all filled by Myself, Adas (who helped me make the RP) and Sandy. There are two Mage Knights (Anomoly and Raiha) so you can sign-up for a third if you want but the chances are lower than if you sign-up for The Last Line (where there is only 2007DB accepted).
I sincerely hope that the groups of 3 to 6 Hunters consist of members from all societies, in order to have a balanced party. I assume this was your idea in the first place, but I'm just checking...

Did I read Final Fantasy? Count me in! XD Name: Kallisto Gender: Female Description: (see attachment, picture by UnseelieAllure@deviantArt) Kallisto is a veteran Hunter, nearing her forties. One would think that she would be looked up to in the organization, but her ruthlessness and cruel sense of humor turn people off. Her ancestral roots lie in the deep jungles of Mayalore, most of which has been cut down by invaders over the centuries. Her dark skin and pure white hair are eye-turners everywhere she walks. The decades spent as a Hunter has honed her skills with the bow and arrows to the peak, but still she enjoys challenging other archers to compete against her. It goes without saying that humiliation is her favorite hobby. Society: First Offensive Armor: Kallisto prefers to wear light, skin-tight clothes that don't bother her performance, colors of which vary depending on the situation. While amongst people, she dresses in white, but when out in the wild, she blends to the surroundings with green and brown, and pulls a hood to cover her white hair. Weapon: Longbow with enchanted arrows Abilities: Aside from being a master archer, Kallisto has a wide selection of customized arrows to choose from. Those with a silver point work well against lycanthropes, and burning ones can be used to ignite the fur of the great beasts. of course she also relies on the classic poisoned arrows, as well. Her dream is to find a magician who could make her arrows that never miss.
so engel? I'm somewhat confused. Silla's attacking Matsya?
I'm just as confused as you, especially since Retri's character was supposed to be making an alliance with my character. 8/

I don't have an error, but is there a way to save my font/color?
Sandy replied to PieFlavoredPie's topic in Help & Feedback
You're right, it's not. But i'm lazy, so i was wondering if it could be done. >_>
As the frequent user of the Quick Reply function, I too would love such an option. ;D Well, there's always a possibility that the next version will have it... -
So, umm... Etamet wasn't Darren's character afterall? :/ I honestly thought the line Beth underlined meant that! That the user would have to revive their own character... Oh well, he was somebody's character, at least. XP
-
Etamet ripped a shred from his pant leg and tied Delilah's head with it. "Will she be alright?" Delita asked him. It was obvious that the frailty of human life still amazed her. "Only time will tell", Etamet said, standing up. Then Oromis returned with Mary holding Brittany. The young girl was still red-eyed, and when she saw Delilah's limp body she got scared. "Is... is she dead?" she whispered. She had heard the gunshots and Delilah's screams. Etamet shook his head, but Mary's uneasiness didn't go away. "It is alright", Delita said comfortingly, hugging the girl. "I'm glad you are okay. We must move onwards now, though." Delita flunged Delilah's body to her back, just like she had carried Dafine's body a few long days ago. Etamet went ahead, and Oromis kept the rear. Mary walked behind Delita, petting Brittany who had fallen asleep to her arms. Eventually the corridor they were walking ended. Ahead of them was a steep, spiral slide going down a vertical shaft, vanishing into a bright light below them. "What's that down there?" Mary asked. "It looks almost like... sunlight!" "It very well might be", Etamet said. "Let me go down first, I'll holler to you if it's safe." "What?" Oromis questioned. "No, I should go. I'm the oldest one here, I should be the one to take such a risk!" Etamet just smiled, and jumped into the slide before the older man could stop him. Etamet knew that this was the right thing to do. He was nothing but a clone of the original Etamet, infused with his memories and personality. He didn't deserve life like those above him. The slide was quickly over, and he stumbled through a doorway into soft grass. He saw the sky above him, the sun just as bright as his memories recalled. The field of grass went on unbroken as far as the eye could see. Etamet sighed heavily. This wasn't the real world. This field of grass was as artifical as himself. He took a ten or so steps forward and then turned to look at the Panopticon. All he saw was a tall metal wall continuing forever in both directions. Just as he had thought. Artificial. Suddenly the doorway he had come trough got shut by a sliding door. Etamet rushed to it, banging the metal surface. "Hey! Don't come down here!" He tried to shout to the others inside, but he didn't think they could hear him. He then spun around and leaned to the closed door. Suddenly the horizon was awfully close to him, and still approaching at horrendous speed. In a few seconds the artificial sun, the artificial sky, the artificial sky, the artificial wall and the artificial door had all crashed into the artificial Etamet. The Trap of False Hope had gotten it's prey. OoC: And thus my duty is filled. Sorry, Darren. ;P
I know that's not what you mean, but in my opinion, poking you is more appropriate since you did give us our challenges that lead to the frustration in the first place. You're the host Sandy! It's your job to deal with the unruly contestants! Or annoying ones if you prefer to think of it that way. :p
I'm just saying that you're wasting the energy you should be aiming towards the competition on me. Someone else was better than you this time, now accept it and move on. Volunteering to be voted out is a silly strategy in this game. The next challenge is going to be very demanding, so I'm sure your team will need you in it. Don't lose your spirit before your team has even lost, that really hurts the team morale.
Sandy hasn't drawn first blood yet? You're not sick are you Sandy? Heh, I wonder if the change in owners of certain characters has certain people rethinking their strategy and resulting in this unnatural pause before the killing? *laughs*
I was gonna, but now I have to leave to downtown. I'll probably still get my chance to do it later tonight, anyway. That is, unless someone of you goes at it first... *threatening hiss*

Peacock laid silently on his bed at the infirmary, his head still wrapped up in bandages. Gurt had told him that the terrorists were on the move again. There had also been an internal crisis at the HQ, resulting in Mother's leave. Peacock wished he could be there with his colleagues in these difficult times, but his condition had only gotten worse. The wound in his head had been more severe than thought. It seemed that ultimately Platypus had gotten the best of him, after all. Peacock closed his eyes and fell asleep, never to wake up again. ***** An hour later Gurt returned to the infirmary, only to find Peacock passed away. The autopsy revealed that he had died from internal bleeding at the brain.
