No, YOU have to write it! I did enough work for you guys, between the site and everything else! *shakes fist*
Could've mentioned that earlier... *mumbles* You still have to put them on the site, though. ;P
Well, everyone needs to take sparring, Remember, this is a military academy. Sparring to them is to us our ABC's...except tour lack of knowledge of the alphabet won't land us on the bad side of a bullet.
Yeah, I figured everybody had to take sparring, but does everybody have to take ADVANCED sparring? How do you even spar with a chakram? :/
Ahem, MILITARY academy, anyone?
Military schmilitary, it was a joke. X) Besides, with magic and healing involved in warfare, not all students are bound to be the rough and tough commando types. Anyways, great start on the game! A real kick off, one could even say...
You must tell me if you want a custom character sheet (like you see for mine, Alex) or if you want to use the sheet you provided for the sign ups.
You can put my characters in a custom character sheet, as yours seemed quite nifty. ;D If you want me to add anything to their sign-ups, just PM me. I promise I won't argue back this time! X) Hmm, everybody's doing curriculums for the students, huh? For now I can only say for sure that Carrot and Circes both take classes of Advance Summoning II and Dancing (just because it seems like fun). Aside from those, Carrot obviously studies White Magic and Circes Black Magic, but neither of them is much of a fighter type, so I don't know about Sparring... Also, Circes could take an optional class of fashion designing, if there was one. XP PS. I really liked the idea in CAF that the students of healing magic would get practical training at the infirmary. Would it be okay if that idea was transferred to this version as well?

OoC: this post starts from the Advanced Summoning II class in the morning. ~*~*~*~ Cassandra Augurion sat on the front seat in Instructor Algreis's summoning class. She focused on taking notes from the instructor's lesson about the relationship between the summoner and the summoned spirit. Her concentration was disturbed by the fact that she knew her twin brother was currently yawning and dawdling new designs in the back row. She knew this without even having to look behind her. She just knew it. Circes didn't take any of this seriously! The Augurion twins were considered the worst summoners of the bunch, just because neither of them had been able to form a lasting bond with a spirit. This was exactly why Instructor Algreis glanced sternly at Cassandra every once in a while. Cassandra's irritation grew. She knew she was great at summoning, the spiritual beasts that she had conjured were all very powerful, but they just didn't last! Everytime she failed to keep yet another spirit on this plane of existence, she had to endure the mocking grins of the other students - especially that of Clyne Geiger! And Circes just didn't care! "Miss Augurion", Instructor Algreis's smooth voice interrupted her thoughts. "Your face is turning as red as your hair. Is there something bothering you?" The rest of the class giggled, and Cassandra heard the word "carrot" whispered several times. Instructor Locke Algreis, a magically rejuvenated magus, stared at Cassandra, eager for a reply. "Well, as a matter of fact", Cassandra said, collecting her pride. "I'm bothered by the sheer ignorance of my brother, who at this moment is more focused on fancy dresses than your lecture, dear Instructor." "Ah, I see..." the Instructor said, rubbing his delicate chin. "Mr. Augurion! Yes, you on the back! Yes, I'm actually talking to you!" Circes Augurion snapped out of his inner world of silk and frills upon hearing "mr." instead of "miss" in front of "Augurion". "Huh? Me? What is it?" Circes asked, smiling back at the instructor. "I'd like to see you and your sister after lunch. I think I may have solved your... eh, little problem. Now, where was I..." Circes felt his twin sister's amusement, just like she surely felt his annoyance. After all, he was supposed to meet Gia and Verity for a dress-up session.

A tall but thin shadow passed the stone plate at the Nexus of the Labyrinth. It crept towards the graves encircling the plate. It lingered in front of each gravestone, as if to read the names on them one by one. So few of them remain..., the gentle wind whispered. Many souls have been perished... , the sharp leafs on the hedges rattled. It'll be interesting to see who will be last. What an intriguing game, Life is..., the thick grass rustled. The shadow turned towards the exit of the Nexus. ... and Death, it added. Time to go gather the lost lambs. In an instant, the shadow was gone, and the Nexus fell silent once again.
Perhaps it has only to do with the person put in charge of the event, but traditional events seem to have much more magnitude than ones moderated by members. It just wouldn't be the same.
There's that pedestal I was talking about again. Remember that Event Master isn't a god-like status, the one holding it is just a human being like the rest of us. One person can only do so much... Seriously,if you want weight on the word community in Community Events, it means the community has to have a lot more involvement not only by participating, but by planning and executing as well. This has proven to be working in events such as the Nifty Fifty and the Scavenger Hunt, where several members worked alongside Shy to make them better than one single person could've possibly done. I believe the magnitude you're talking about came from that type of cooperation, not solely from Shy's authority. We're talking about things that have already happened, here. Common members have been contributing to the events in other ways than mere participation since the beginning. Aaryanna_Mom's suggestion would just take that to a whole new level.
Who will they actually care about and remember, the mod cum Event Master who holds a position of authority, or the troll who was just using him for the fun of it? Although I like anime and the drawing style involved, I'm not exactly a fan. The only real anime-series I've watched are Digimon and Neon Genesis Evangelion. However, curiosity made me look at this thread, and just today I realized that I can actually watch the series from YouTube with subtitles (because feel I wouldn't get anything from watching the episodes in Japanese), so I did. Eight episodes in a row. Then I had to stop because eps 9 and 10 weren't translated yet. I've got to say, no series since NGE, animated or otherwise, has given me this giddy feeling inside. Death Note is absolutely beautiful, mature, deep, exciting, thrilling, and downright wrong. I just love it! XD The best thing about it is definitely the main character being an anti-hero. I've never seen such righteous evil being portrayed anywhere else before. I really expected Ryuk the Shinigami being the evil behind Light, but he's turned out to be more of a neutral observer enjoying the ride. The best moment in the series so far was definately the ending of episode 7 (with Light and Naomi), and if there's more of that type of scenes, I really can't wait to see more.

Silence. Sweet, blissful silence. Maya Ashnard laid on her back on the floor of the attic-like room, with her eyes wide open. The headless Constance had vanished, as had the voices of Lita and the man named Kalas. Maya was sure she had sensed the crazy woman who had killed Constance for a brief moment, as well. She was relieved that it was all over now. She could just remain here, in this silent room, until somebody came to save her. "No", her thoughts said to her. "Nobody is going to come and save me. My life is in the hands of myself and the great Allah." Determinedly she got up the floor and wiped the dust off her clothes. The determination turned to anger. "By Allah, I will get out of here even if all Hell would stand in my way!" she shouted from the bottom of her lungs. Then she marched to the hatch on the floor and opened it. She almost lost her balance when she looked through the hatch.
Sandy, you should have definitely chosen Alan for your assignment. At the very least, it could have served as the pilot for a new Odd Couple. That interview would have been an event in and of itself!
I actually thought about it, but then Shy beat me to it. I don't know if I would've had the guts for it, anyway. XP I'd imagine it really would've been entertaining for the outside viewer, though.
If you win this (ha), I'd recommend changing your attitude to your critics, because it didn't win you any friends in this thread, and made you look like a dick to everyone else who was just watching.
I'm sorry, but I did make new friends in this thread, and SunfallE was one of them. And according to some PMs I received, I wasn't the one being a dick here, either... The truth remains that I did not "explode" once in this thread, and I did not turn off all the criticism I received. Just the ones that I found unbased (and the ones calling me stupid, retarded and bitchy). I might not have your support, DeadSeraphim, but don't mistake me for one who has no friends around here.

I have sent up my article to Otakupedia entries -thread about SunfallE, who was one of the people who gave me constructive criticism. A fast link to the post is here. Now to answer the questions: 1: What bothered you so much about their criticism towards you and your event? Well, I wasn't really bothered by anobody who gave me constructive criticism (namely SunfallE, Charles, BKStyles, Aaryanna and Aaryanna_Mom). To my knowledge, constructive feedback means that aside from pointing out where the receiver went wrong, it also includes suggestions on how to change it for the better. Some people (especially Boo, DeathKnight and PapaSmurf) gave me criticism, but it was far from constructive. I was bothered by the fact that Boo hadn't even read my first post to the Labyrinth Nexus entirely but squashed it anyway, and that DeathKnight started to belittle me after I responded to him, and I'm not going to even go to what PapaSmurf said. But this is all opening old wounds, so I'm just going to leave it at this. 2: What did you learn in your research that surprised you the most? How did learning about them affect your opinion of this member? About SunfallE? I was surprised by the fact that she was so active in theOtaku and MyOtaku as well, not only OtakuBoards. But making an article didn't change my opinions of her in anyway, because I've respected her all along. 3: Do you feel their criticism is more justified after learning more about their experience on the boards? Please elaborate. Uh... I don't know if I understood this assignment very well. Was I supposed to make an article about the people who I felt gave me unjust criticism, not the people who gave me constructive criticism? Sorry, Shy, but apparently I've got it wrong. :/ 4: If any, what steps have you made to address member criticism towards your event. Steps? In my opinion I've always been open to member criticism, I just have the idea that if it's not respectful and constructive, I won't take it - and I will defend my views in those cases. I know I'm overly sensitive by these things, but it's my personality and I can't just change it in a blink of an eye. However, I'm working on my patience and "humbleness", if you can say that. I still don't approve that some members are allowed to add downright insulting stuff as a part of their criticism here, brushing it off as "sarcasm" or "witty sense of humor". It's easy to talk like that when you're at the Internet, but some people tend to forget that there's a real living humanbeing behind every single screenname, each with their own emotions, personalities and backgrounds. Not everybody can handle such type of "humor". But yeah, I have a lot of personal issues which I've been working on... 5: Why is member feedback so important to Community Events? Feedback is always important, because no improvement can happen unless it's given and received. I feel that the "event suggestion thread" that Aaryanna_Mom promoted at the Feedback Forum was a great idea in terms of improving Community Events. However, when giving feedback, people really need to realize that their views are always subjective, and not just assume that their suggestions and corrections are taken in an instant. We all have our own opinions on how things should work, for example at the Community Events, but it's impossible to combine all those opinions. But yeah, improvement happens when one reflects one's own opinions to those of others, and really thinks about what went wrong and what didn't. ****** Hope these answers satisfy you, Shy, even though I probably didn't catch your original idea.

Note: this article is my assignment to the Otaku Idol 2 contest, done in co-operation of SunfallE herself. SunfallE Category: OtakuBoards Staff, Desbreko Fangirls SunfallE joined the OtakuBoards on February the 28th in the year 2005. She is most visible at the Otaku Lounge, which she began to moderate on March the 7th, 2006, at the same time that Aaryanna started patrolling Anime Lounge. Although she?s not the one to spam the boards with new threads, her posts are often thorough (an example could be her thread about Seasons), and she is genuinely concerned about the well-being of the forums, even before she joined the staff, as her several threads to the Suggestions & Feedback show. Her attitude towards members of old and new is kind and respectful, and her patience is admirable. In real life her legal name is Elizabeth, though she prefers to be called Beth. She lives in Provo, Utah. She?s 36 years old, which is notably over the average age of OB members. But that is only a good thing, as she brings a lot of mature thoughts and arguments into discussion while retaining a youthful attitude. Another quirky detail about her private life is that she used to drive a semi truck along the west coast of the US. She has also said that although she doesn?t know much about websites or html, she knows how to build a computer, thanks to her father having worked with computers and bringing his job home. As for hobbies, she mentions videogames like Zelda and Tales of Symphonia though recently (she fell for Star Ocean 3), science-fiction (especially Dr. Who) and fantasy literature, as well as keeping a scrap book on Yellowstone National Park. Her current staple font is royal blue, although she has ventured into trying colors such as dark olive green in the past. Notable Trivia: SunfallE also joined myOtaku on February the 28th in the year 2005 and she began to moderate over at theOtaku on March the 24th, 2006. She takes care of submission reports and helps out with submission approvals from time to time. -
It is true that we both have a long history there, but it wouldn't be right if we wrote it ourselves, since it has the potential to come off a bit biased and things of the ilk.[/color']
Of course it would be biased, because you can only see things from your own perspective, and nobody can truly be objective. But it's not a bad thing at all in this case, given that it doesn't turn into self-glorification and belittling of others. Nevertheless, I kind of felt the same when I wrote the articles about OB Survivors, but then I figured that if I didn't write it, nobody probably would. -
Everyone simmer down a bit before we have a repeat of recent events. Lord knows we don't need it, lol.[/color']
Don't worry, I've learned my lesson about that. ;D I was just genuinely confused about what Delta meant with his words.
That's why I was personally happy when the Scavenger Hunt came 'round; it was something everyone could easily get involved in and enjoy.[/color']
I agree, it was fun, and I for one would be delighted to see it return some day (yay for split third place!), but it also required lots of work, like coming up with all those riddles, and the effort of several people. Some people fail to see how hard it is to come up with events that suit for everybody - if it was easy, then there would be dozens of contestants at Otaku Idol 2 instead of three. However, I don't agree with the concept of RPGs not making good events that some people seem to have. Sure, there have been plenty of them lately, but they have been quite popular too. People shouldn't be afraid to jump into them and give them a try just because "RPGs aren't their thing", because what is life if not a constant play with roles? In my opinion all the RPG-type of events so far have been quite far from the games in the Adventure Square. They're not the most easily approachable as events, but when one tries them, it's easy to get sucked into them. ;D But like many people have said in this thread already, there can be many different types of events, and I personally am not deadset on disapproving any of them (not even the "rubbish" word games). One has to be open to all sorts of things if one wishes to become an Event Master, right? ;D One thing I'd like to change, though, is the way people put community events on some sort of pedestal. With too high expectations, one is surely disappointed.
While the search for a new Event Master is[/i'] a community event, the events aren't. All of them had a limited amount of participants. It's not fair for people to put down the Otaku Idol 2 events for reasons that abide to past events just as well .
Don't rattle your brains making up of far-out rules that'll give them run-of-the-mill RPGs their much needed makeovers. Scott Sheppard wondered where Feng Li had went. Together they had entered what seemed to be a stone-walled continuation to the hedge maze, except everything was in multiple levels. There were bridges and archways everywhere, even occasional doors leading to unknown places. Scott had followed the young Chinese girl, but she had suddenly sprinted off and disappeared. Scott was growing worried. "Feng Li!", he shouted every once in a while. "Come back!" Scott didn't like being all alone. He had been lonely ever since his divorce. All his friends had abandoned him for what he'd done, and the people at his work avoided him as well. It was a well known fact that Scott Sheppard had a possessive and oppressive personality. He couldn't stand failure, and he was constantly suspicious of everybody around him. He had been sure that his ex-wife had cheated him, but when he had voiced out his opinions, she had left him. And now he was alone again. "FENG LI!!!" he shouted from the bottom of his lungs. "What?" came a voice behind him. There she was, the innocent-looking Chinese girl staring at Scott with her huge hazel eyes. Feng Li stood by a door she had just come out of. "You don't need to shout that hard, you know?" Feng Li disciplined Scott, actually shaking her finger. "...Sorry." It was all Scott could say in response. "Hey listen, I saw this woman just a while ago! She was really creepy. She was carrying a doll and crying", the girl explained. "Where is she now?" Scott asked. "She tried to follow me, but I ran through all these doors and she got lost. I think she was a ghost." "But weren't you the one who said this was all real", Scott said, smiling.
The Community Events forum has a specific purpose; it's not an RPG forum or a caption game forum. These subjects are well-supported by existing forums.
Alright, I got you. But I still say that the Community Events could be more than what it is now (a big event taking place once every six months), but maybe Aaryanna_Mom's could be the first step on that path. Like you said, events can come in countless shapes or forms, most of which haven't been experimented yet, but people can't expect one person (i.e. the Event Master) to come up with all of them. I really think the section needs more events from the community to the community. That's real quality, not fancy words or flashy graphics.
It's Community Events, not Community Games. What part of "Choose what you'd do out of two awful choices" strikes you as an event? Or, how about, "Add a funny caption to my stupid picture"? Events are carefully planned and processed to involve the whole community, games are spur of the moment rubbish. Fun, yeah, but they hardly deserve to be elevated to the level of an event.
That's exactly why I didn't bring up my idea before - because people seem to have a very narrow concept of what Community Events should be like. Something grandiose and groundbreaking, I assume. I, for one, would like to see the Community Events Forum as much more community-involving and living, and not just in the terms of participation, but creation as well. Of course it's James's decision in the end if he would like to change the concept of Community Events, but what thing concerning OB wouldn't be? ;P Whether people like it or not, those "rubbish" games really are events - they gather many people together to enjoy themselves in an organized matter. I really don't see how they differ from something like the Scavenger Hunt, except perhaps quality-wise. Really, why can't "spur-of-the-moment" -games and carefuly planned events exist side by side in a same forum? Anyway, I strongly agree with the idea of an event suggestion thread, but I just see we could go much further than that in the path of community involvement. (Note that I'm currently having studies on community work at school, so that might affect to my thoughts.)

Actually, now that the subject is on the table, I've had some thoughts on how to make Community Events forum much more interactive and open to ideas, and I'm pretty much on the same tracks with Aaryanna_Mom. It's not like other members haven't been able to make suggestions as events before, but maybe they haven't been encouraged enough, I can't say. :/ My thoughts took me as far as transferring all the popular game threads that have been popping up lately at the Lounge into the Community Events forum. They would have to have the acceptance of the Event Master first, of course. Because anybody can practically create threads at the section, nobody would have to worry about making anybody a moderator or anything like that - the Event Master would supervice it all like you suggested, James. That way the Community Events forum would become a much more lively place than it is now, with multiple smaller games being held there instead of the Otaku Lounge, as well as the occasional bigger events organized by the Event Master. Well, that's at least my vision which I was hesitant to bring up before, but it's good to hear other people have had similar thoughts.

OtakuBoards Survivor Trilogy Category: Notable Threads OtakuBoards Survivors were three competitive RPGs created by Sage/Sandy. Their common factor was that they were all based on the widely popular reality-tv-series "Survivor". The RPGs were all quite popular during their time, and the popularity grew with each new game. The three games shared the same basic mechanics: the chosen players were divided into teams which competed against each other in various challenges, after which the losing team would vote out somebody amongst them through private messaging. When there were only two players left, the voting was made public with a poll. Unofficial OtakuBoards Survivor: The Freakshow! October the 26th, 2002 - January the 8th, 2003 The first installment to the trilogy of RPGs was the quirkily named Unofficial OtakuBoards Survivor: The Freakshow! It was first meant to be a parody of the real tv-show, but it quickly turned out to be something completely different. It featured two teams of original imaginary characters - the LimeTime Tribe and the Indigoth Tribe - that competed against each others and the maniac and capricious host of the game. Along the game they faced e.g. a maze, mock Idol contest, elephant race and a merge to one team, the Crimsonata Tribe. The first OB Survivor was largely experimental in nature, and reflected the standard of roleplaying of that time. The players of the game were:
Arikel calumon_luver (later KittyLynn) *2ND PLACE* Circéus Darkmoon DarkOrderKnight (later Corey) Digital_Monster Faris (later TrickyNicky) GotenksSSJ343 G/S/B Master iggy Rain *WINNER* starlight
Final Fantastic Survivor April the 9th, 2003 - August the 31th, 2003 The second OtakuBoards Survivor was the Final Fantastic Survivor, which was altogether much more organized and saner than the Freakshow, despite having only few months between them. The setting of this game was of course the worlds in the Final Fantasy -series, and naturally the competitors had to play as Final Fantasy characters. The host played the part of the series staple, Cid. The two starting teams were Tantalus and Avalanche, which later merged into Redwings. This game also featured captains to the teams, who were voted in a similar manner as the evicted players. The captains made all the crucial decisions for their team, for example who would be evicted in a tie-breaker situation. During this game the teams completed challenges in the various worlds of the Final Fantasy games by travelling in airships between them, and although the challenges weren't always that well thought-out, the players always did their best. The contribution was at times phenomenal, especially in the case of GinnyLyn, who created a whole website as well as a webcomic dedicated to the RPG. Here's a list of the players of this game:
Ajeh Braidless Baka calumon_luver (later KittyLynn) Desbreko *2ND PLACE* Domon (replaced JCBaggee and Draagul who didn't post) GinnyLyn *WINNER* Mei Sakuramon (later Sakura) Tasis (later Zeh) Zidane (later Zidargh)
OtakuBoards Survivor: Game On! November the 6th, 2005 - April the 28th, 2006 The third game in the series was the videogame-themed Game On!, which ended last spring. It was also the most thought-out of the three games, and the popularity at the beginning at least was massive. The recruitment thread gained about 30 sign-ups, and many good candidates had to be left out. As the theme was videogames, the contestants took the roles of various videogame characters, with the host playing as Mog the Moogle, the cute pink critter from Final Fantasy. For the first time, the players were initially divided into three teams, the Bravers of the Red Sword (with action-type characters), the Adventurers of the Blue Feather (with adventure-type characters) and the Legends of the Green Gem (with RPG-type characters). As the game progressed, the three teams were mixed up to two, divided by the gender of the characters: males were the Heroes of the Iron Fist and females were the Heroines of the Golden Lotus. For the final phase, the remaining players formed the Survivors of the Ultimate Game. The challenges took place in different videogames, ranging from Lemmings to Resident Evil, as well as completely original environments. A strange blue place named the CPU worked as the hub of the game, where the characters met before each challenge and each eviction. The reception of this game outstood the earlier parts, as it was the first OB Survivor to attract people who typically weren't interested in RPGs. It was also awarded in the Nifty Fifty of 2006. The players of this game were as follows:
^.^ (later JJ) Baron Samedi Desbreko Deucalion Doukeshi *2ND PLACE* Imi (later Ezekiel) JimiWiggy11 Kitty KKC Lrb (later White) Outlaw Raiyuu *WINNER* Sakura Shinji (later Shinje) Sinistra Solo Tremaine Unborn Lord Xion (later Onix) Wraith (later Blayze)
Trivia: * There have been several attempts at creating OtakuBoards Survivors by other members besides Sandy, of which the most successful was OtakuBoards Survivor 2: Temple of Chaos by Bent Metal, but for some reason none of them lasted long. * The comic made by GinnyLyn about Final Fantastic Survivor was sadly never finished, but all the pages released were saved by Sandy. If anybody's interested to see them, contact him. * The little birds are singing about OtakuBoards Survivor 4, so keep an eye on that one... *********************************** Done. Anything I should add? Note that there's a link in the title of each game directing to the main game thread. Btw, it sure feels weird to write about yourself in third person. -
This was quickly banned, as were his other subsequent usernames, including ArgolisDragon, G-Unit, Sanosuke9480, Asheron, Red Inferno, Alucardfire and Athos
All I can say is praise the Internet Gods for inventing IP bans! XP I think I will do articles about the three OB Survivors I've held, because they were big hits at least at the time they were held, and I personally feel that they deserve a mention in the Otakupedia. -
I disagree. I think this way it becomes more open to newer members. They'll start to understand the in jokes that otherwise, they just wouldn't get. It's also an exercise in inclusion -- everyone can contribute, and more than that, they can see every point of view.[/size']
I agree that OB as a whole will become more open to newer members this way, with the site history and nostalgic blasts from the past all documented to one thread, but I fail to see how that encourages them to contribute to the Otakupedia in any way. I for one would feel very intimidated to post anything in this thread if I had only been a member here for less than two years. At this current state, Otakupedia is pretty much run by the old foggies rambling about stuff that happened years ago.
If you still have an issue with it, there's really quite a simple solution; add a feature about something that you think is current and up to date. ;)
I didn't mean it like that. Actually, I'm compelled to write an article this week if I want to win Otaku Idol 2. I would've contributed in the near future any way. Nevertheless, I'm not a new member by far, so I can't say I'd represent that part of OB very well. I think the newer members need more encouragement to post here, so rather than doing it all by myself, I'll ask people to write articles about forums such as the Manga Workshop and the Adventure Underground, events such as the Legionnaires and the Nifty Fifty, and members such as Aaryanna and Raiyuu. ;D
