Trust me, Trueman and his staff members went over every single possible scenario that would avoid having to use the nuclear weapons. All of them were extremely grim and had a horrible turnout for our troops. So the nuclear weapon was the only choice that would save a majority of our troops.[/SIZE']
I'm sorry, I didn't know you had that much first-hand intel from inside Truman's government so that you actually know what they thought at that moment. You seem to know their motives and the fact that they were cornered with the decision. Were you a good friend of Truman & the other boys? To cut the sarcasm, there can be no justification for slaughtering innocent civilians and destroying whole cities. It's barbaric, inhumane and against the laws of every nation in the world. It's insane that some of you people actually thought your nation had/has the right to do that, and your nation alone. Talking about American arrogancy... My point here is that if the US wants a nuclear arms free world, they will have to start with themselves and not point fingers. It's not like the country can afford to go into yet another war.
I believe that it was to point out that the only country to ever use nuclear weapons outside of testing is the United States, regardless of the situation. And whatever you might say, I personally believe there must[/i'] have been a more humane option than nuking two cities, but that might just be me.
My thougths exactly. Thanks Dodeca. There's always an option for war. It's called "peace". Yes, I'm naïve that way.

Honestly, I'm many times more worried about the amount of nuclear weapons that USA has in stock than whatever North Korea has. Popquiz: What country is the only one in the history of Earth to ever use a nuclear weapon against another nation? Pot calling the kettle black here...

Hey, madwitch5! I'm sorry to say this, but this thread isn't quite up to par with the quality we want to maintain here at the Adventure Arena, so I have to close it. First of all, your grammar needs a lot of work. It's hard to understand what you're trying to say when you have no periods or commas, capital letters here and there (except in the places where they ought to be) and typoes everywhere. Also, we require all the recruitment threads to have at least three paragraphs of background text, as well as a proper rating (PG is enough, no need to add the age). Please work on these things. Me and other Arena mods are always just a PM away if something is still unclear to you. - Sandy *thread closed*

Sandy replied to Tyler Koregaten's topic in Theater
Tyler, bumping a thread with a double post isn't allowed. If your game doesn't attract people, then you just have to accept it. I'll bump this up for you this once, because you had added content, but in the future, it would be better to just PM the people who have already signed up and ask them if they still are interested in your game, okay? - Sandy -
Of course, there's also the Special Edition FFXII that I'm eagerly waiting on the release of....
Hey, that's not geeky! I envy you, as the chances of FFXII Special Edition being published here in Finland is inexistant. I just have to go with the regular version... Whenever I get it. XP

Welcome to the Adventure Arena, Pterimon! Before you start creating RPGs here, you should read the sticky about Adventure Arena Basics thoroughly. Once you have, you will learn that we require a few specific things from our games, that the writing is readable and has a good grammar, that an appropriate rating would be put to the headline, and that the introduction would be at least three paragraphs long. An interesting story is a big plus, too. Currently, your "game" doesn't have any of them. You're going to have to do a lot of work if you want this game to go on. Read the rules mentioned above, clean your writing style and grammar, get rid of the excessive smilies and exclamation marks, and take examples from other threads in this area before you post again. *now listening to "Open Door"* I became an instant Evanescence-fan when I heard the singles from the album "Fallen" from the radio, so I've been eagerly waiting for this new album. At first, the songs in it sounded quite similar to each other, but after listening them over and over again, they are definitely growing on me. My absolute favorites from the album are Lacrymosa and Like You, both are very touching and beautiful in a somber way (I don't know any music terms, so excuse me for not giving more specific reasons).

Please, midnightscar, at least try! I already closed down one of your threads here and told you exactly what to do, but I'll repeat: 1. read the Adventure Square Basics 2. pick a rating and put it in the title 3. write background story of at least three paragraphs 4. type with good grammar and understandable style Is this so much to ask? Sorry to sound so rude, but I'm just tired and frustrated. Just... try. - Sandy *thread closed*
Saying they are someone you might know does not excuse idiotic behavior.
Could you please show me the point where I implied that, because I thought I very clearly said the opposite. I tried to say that it is far more rare for your neighbor/relative/friend to be a psycopath and a murderer than a drunk driver. But of course you people seem to have the right to condemn people just off the bat. I at least know, coming from a family of alcoholists, that things are rarely that simple.
-
The risks of drunk driving are widely known. When someone drinks and gets behind the wheel of a vehicle they know the risks involved. They know that what they are doing is against the law. The know that alcohol impairs the senses. --- Obviously people are in a position to make rational decisions before they drink. It is their responsibility to decide not to drive before they even have the first drink.
Well, of course if the world would be a perfect place, nobody wouldn't break the common rules or do anything stupid, but unfortunately it isn't. Of course that sort of stupidity should be punished, but with death? Sheesh, you think like a proper dictator! Hammurabi's law hasn't been a valid legislation in thousands of years, Charles.
Yes, the death penalty. I don't care if they have to live with the mistake for the rest of their lives--what about the family of the victim or families of the victims?
Do you honestly think that executing a 40-year old businessman with two kids for driving over a little girl while drunk would make the family of that girl's family feel any better? I repeat, we are not talking about manic murderers or rapists with no conscience here! The people who drink and drive are your neighbors, your relatives, your schoolmates, your colleagues, it could even be you! Again, I'm not defending the action, but at the same time I'm aware that some people are very confident in thinking that they can drive well even under the influence of others. It's immoral and idiotic, but it really has no comparison with death penalty. The crime and the sanction are in totally different leagues.
-
When a drunk driver kills someone it should be no different than committing murder; everyone knows the risks of driving drunk.
Oh yes it is. Murder is a contemplated, planned act made in the full awareness and intention. Killing somebody spontaneously, on spur of the events or by a mishap, is called a manslaughter, and there's a very definite difference between the two terms. A drunken person rarely thinks of the consequences, especially in the phase we Finnish call the "rising drunkedness" where one thinks he or she is on top of the world, and the concept of one's own condition is often delusionally optimistic. In that condition health and alcohol education is easily forgotten. This is not to say that a drunken driver should not be held accountable of his or her actions, but seriously, death penalty?! Drunken drivers are mostly common people who made one mistake, and they have to live with that mistake for the rest of their lives, so isn't that enough? To me, an execution of a criminal is a totally out-of-this-world concept. I simply can't comprehend the reasoning behind that! Sure, managing jails is expensive and quite difficult, but if we revert back to the old days of killing wrong-doers in our society, we are no better than them. Plus, I consider death penalty as a liberation for the criminal - it's the easy way out of living with the guilt, which is the worst punishment there is.
There is! At the Top! Pg13. It has Violence and, of course, language.
Actually, the rating should be put into the title of the game, so it shows on the thread page. I did it for you now, because a normal member cannot edit the title after creating the thread, but just this once, mind you. Also, we don't use the ages in ratings here, so a mere [PG] is enough. The reason for that is explained in the sticky with the Adventure Square Basics. Congress Passes Detainee Interrogation Bill
Sandy replied to Retribution's topic in General Discussion
im sorry but i dont agree with that. im glad that some of those detanees were tortured do you think they care about me and my men when we get captured in iraq. remeber the beheading videos they sent out. so what if some of them get torture. that way we get the information we need to help get key people and help us survive. now if these "terrorist" were to follow the geneva conventions like we are forced then yes thats wrong but they dont and thats why its easier for them to attack us than it is for us to attack them.
But how can you tell if all of these people arrested have anything to do with the terrorist organizations? It's been proven that many of those brought to Guantanamo and Abu Graib (spelling?) had in fact nothing to do with Al Qaida or the likes, but were just common civilizians captured "just in case". I don't know about you, but my conscience would not bare to torture a completely innocent person, just to make sure he isn't a terrorist. It's looking like the witch hunt is on all over again - you'll be tortured until you confess, no matter what the truth is. As a humanist and a pacifist, I'm apalled that a "civilized" nation is sinking into their enemy's level. Eye for an eye, eh? -

Hey, Ginkaze, and welcome to the Arena! I see you remembered to add a rating to the title after creating this thread, but it's not the only requirement we have when it comes to RPGs here. Now, there's nothing wrong about your grammar, but you have written a "wall of text", so to speak, which is very difficult to read and comprehend. I advice you to put on some spaces or empty lines between paragraphs, that's the best way to make your text readable. Also, there's a minimum of three paragraphs of background story required for our RPGs here. Also, you might want to have one of them character sheets, to help people join your game. Just take an example from the other threads here at the Inn; the sheet can be as simple or as complex as you want, but it's good to be there. I want you to take another shot of this, so I'm closing this thread down. Spend some more time on the writing, add the things that I adviced you to, and you'll have a great game to start with. If you have any questions concerning your game or roleplaying in general here in OtakuBoards, you can freely send a Private Message to either me or one of the other Adventure Square moderators. - Sandy *thread closed*

Writing (Yaoi story) When the glasses are off [M-SL]
Sandy replied to duoikari's topic in Creative Works
Warning: This thread is treading closely to what seems like a discussion that should be discussed through PM. Please be carefuly not to do so.
I have to disagree. We were talking about the story, and how duoikari can impove her writing in the future. And also about the theme of the story. And how duoikari should not be discouraged by criticism. All related to the thread. So I don't see any off-topic discussion in this thread, myself. I don't mean to step on anybody's toes, but I just had to say my opinion. Duoikari: looking forward to your next story! -
I just passed the game today, and although I was amazed that the final boss actually managed to kill my party of young studs once (I didn't expect that based on
the pathetic easiness of the string of minibosses before the final one, which was due to my awesome orichalcum-embedded Laser Weapon
), the conclusion was a
horrible, horrible mess of the worst clichés of videogaming, irrelevant revelations, confusing dialogue that really didn't bring anything new to the story, and an overall anti-climatic feeling.
Seriously, my feelings along this game went from "hmm, I'm interested" to "yes, this is a nice change from FFs" to "now everything is just getting repetitive" to "oh life, not another inane dialogue and out-of-the-blue boss battle!!!" to "well, that was a big waste of time, money and life". Not even Albel can ease my feeling of disappointment anymore... And speaking of which
wtf was his ending all about?! Sheesh!!!
Well, next week I can leave this negative RPG-experience well behind, as I dive into the world of Suikoden V! Yay! XD
My geekiest purchase would probably be Scrabble game number five. Writing (Yaoi story) When the glasses are off [M-SL]
Sandy replied to duoikari's topic in Creative Works
You should definitely stick with what you yourself are happy with, and not listen to other people's opinions too much. Art is a very personal thing, and it doesn't need an approval of others, because what do they know about your inner world? Nothing, I tell you! ;P And I understand the poor grammar if you're dyslectic, but don't use it as an excuse to not at least try. You can check and re-check, take a break and then check again. Or you can use the wonders of modern technology to your advantage through a spell checker from internet or Word. You can do it! ;D *thumbs up* -
I've recently started to collect Final Fantasy figurines. In August, I bought Squall Leonhart from Spain, and when I got back home, I bought Cloud Strife (from Advent Children), followed Tidus and Yuna. So there's a total of four now, but I'm going to get more. ;D I have certain conditions for the figurines, though: they must be the same approximate size, and fully colored. It's not a problem for me, because the only FF-figurines they sell in Finland are Play Arts ones. But yeah, I think the figurines are the geekiest thing I've bought - at least in a long while.

Enchanted Arms has intrigued me ever since I first heard about it. At first glance it seems like your traditional J-RPG, but when you look into it, you'll find all these new nuances that make it stand out. The golems are one of the major new things. It seems to be a bit like Pokémon, but in this game you can have several of golems AND human party members in the battle at the same time. From personal p-o-w, I appreciate that there's an openly gay playable character in the game, although he could be less of a flaming queen. XP I've heard that
he changes during the game
, though. Anyway, it's a nice change. My only problem is that I don't own an Xbox 360, and I don't know if I ever will. It's fortunately rumored that this game will be ported to PlayStation 3 as well. Yay for that! ;D By the way, XWykesX, if you want to talk about Lost Odyssey, you should start a new thread for that. It isn't connected to this game in any other way except platform.

Writing (Yaoi story) When the glasses are off [M-SL]
Sandy replied to duoikari's topic in Creative Works
Just had to make a few quick notes...
Quatre isn't a born gay even, he actually turned gay when he met Antonio and stay together with him.
This can be debated upon, but I honestly don't think a straight person can suddenly "turn gay", no matter how hot a hunk he meets. ;P A straight person can of course have gay sex, but it takes a lot more to get into a relationship or fall in love with a member of the same gender. At least in my opinion/experience (I know many gay people, and none of them has claimed that they weren't born that way).
I am terribly sorry for the grammer :animeswea i have very very bad grammer, and i asked 12 people to proof read this for me and no one would. I've been having a bit of a downer lately, i posted my art on ildechan and got some really nasty replies which has made me loose confidence in my artwork.
The thing is, a writer simply cannot depend on others proofreading his or her piece of literature every time. Good grammar is something that the writer must learn by him/herself. Seriously, the rules aren't that hard to assume if you put your mind to it. And please, don't let yourself get down just because some jerks give you bad feedback. Just learn what you can from it, and let the rest of it slide by. If one wants to be an artist/writer, one has to have confidence in self and in one's talents. Other people aren't always right, you know? ;D
