1. Three weeks before the Finals - 2:30 PM "Focus, Miss Burnheart, focus!" shouted Instructor Heishiro Aki, a handsome man blessed with both brains and brawn. The instructor waved his hand, manipulating several practice dummies floating around the training yard with the power of telepathy. Carrot was aiming towards the dummies with her mace that had a quite powerful magi of fire attached to it's tip. One by one the targets fell to the ground in a pile of ash. Carrot wiped sweat from her forehead as she approached Instructor Aki to hear how she did. "Excellent for a healer such as you, Miss Burnheart", Aki commented, and Carrot wasn't sure if it was a compliment or an insult. Instructor Aki was a jack-of-all-trades, but healing was his weakest talent. Maybe he's just bitter, Carrot thought. "Am I released now? I need to write one last essay for Instructor Shandala's class", Carrot asked. "Alright then, but remember: healers are useful but only if they are alive, so you've got to learn how to defend yourself against even the hardest of enemies. Your allies won't be there for you at all times." The instructor gave her a serious glance. "You speak as if I'm going to a battle front", Carrot wondered. "Instructor, is there a war on the horizon, one that might get us Risk Breakers involved?" "Only time will tell, Miss Burnheart, but restlessness is abound in the world. You'd do well to cherish your peaceful years here in the Academy, because when you graduate, you won't see much of those anymore. Now, get moving. That essay won't write itself." Carrot bowed herself out of the training yard, and made her way to the dormitory to change her gear. As she was walking, she couldn't help but to be a little intimidated by what was going to wait for her after the Finals. "If I pass them", she added to herself out loud.
2. Hey, that site looks magnificent! :D I especially love the link-picture in the Characters page - although I don't understand why my character is the only one upside down... (: Hmm, I think I'll write a character analysis sometime during this weekend for the site... Great idea that, too. ;D I remember when an ex-member GinnyLyn created a website for my FF Survivor RPG, it really showed her dedication to that game. This is the same thing, and I thank Kitty for demanding. ;D
You sound like a broken record in these forums lately. Just take a break, get yourself a lemonade and let yourself relax.
What have I said to deserve that? :/ Unlike you think, I'm not an uptight person, really. I might say things in a short way without using excessive "pleases" and "thank yous", but that's just the way I speak. What do you even mean by "broken record"? That I'm just repeating stuff over and over again? Huh?! I was just stating my opinion, which I think I have every right to do. Heh, I wasn't aware that I was annoying people to this extent. Good to know. ;P
xRiku Fanx[enter lots of numbers here] is a very good example of someone who spends their time posting half a page full with bad quality. What I remember[/i'], he would've been banned or at least be warned several times by now, normally.
How do you know he's not already been warned by a moderator? I haven't because he hasn't broken any rules in Adventure Square, but somebody else might very well have. I certainly wasn't pissed off at you, Boo, I'm sorry you interpreted it that way. I just share my opinion with James; it's really annoying to hear about the quality of this site going down constantly, when this is still the cleanest and most well-run forum I've ever seen in the internet, and I, for one, have heard enough of the complaints. Some typoes and short posts in one thread ain't going to kill you, Boo, so let the kids play for a while. If it gets out of hand, there's a whole bunch of mods in the Lounge to take care of it.
5. Day 2, 10:11 AM Carrot was relieved to find out that the masses of students hanging in the corridors and hallways had all gone to their respective classes. It was much easier to find the missing patients now. "You're a smart girl, Carrot", she said to herself. "Think! Where could've they gone to? What could they possibly do in their condition?" The first image Carrot had included Orias and Ayame in hot, sweaty intercourse, but she shunned away it immediately. "Fiery hell, what's gotten into me?!" she cried out. "Carrot! Wait!" shouted a familiar voice behind her. The voice was accompanied by the sound of several running steps. Carrot turned around to see Rinoa, Sakura and Havok. "We'll help you find Kyosuke and Ayame", Sakura said kindly. It was really hard to hate the girl. "Alex thought they might have headed to the basement, where they got attacked last night", Havok explained. "The only thing is that the place is now heavily guarded by the Instructors. They are investigating the crime scene, and there's no entry there." "Then how can we get to Ayame and Orias, then?" Carrot asked frustrated.

Oh, please let's not start this whole quality-debate again! It's been too little time from the last thread of this type... :/ Boo, you know that if you have a problem with a thread, you can just report it with your arguments and let the mods decide if your points were valid or not. I know you know this. So... enough?
7. Day 2, 10:00 AM The infirmary was a hazzle, and the orderly side of Carrot Burnheart wasn't pleased. Just as she had been trying to tend Kyosuke Orias, a total of three guests had arrived to see the patients: Sakura Clyne, Rinoa Ryuzaki and the guy named Havok. Then suddenly, nobody else but Aaron Covais, another of her childhood bullies and still a regular pain in the butt, had appeared to "help" her. What was Instructor Phoenix thinking?! Finally, as if to make Carrot's day even before it had properly began, Kyosuke Orias along with Ayame had disappeared! "Nurse Mallon", Carrot said as she slipped behind the curtain that was separating Lazarus McCloud's bed from the others. The nurse was using a powerful healing magi on Lazarus's wounds. "I think we have a problem here..." "Yes, dear?" Nurse Mallon asked, keeping up her permanent smile. "I... eh, seem to have misplaced a few patients..." Carrot said uneasily. The nurse turned to look at her dumbfounded. "Misplaced? How can that be?" "Well, in one minute Orias and Ayame were here, and now... they're not. They didn't use the door, that's for sure. If it hadn't been for Aaron Covais stealing away my attention..." "No use pointing fingers now, go find them! They are in no condition to leave the infirmary! Hurry, dear!" Nurse Mallon ushered her out of the enclosed section. Carrot sighed deeply. Of course it was her job to find those morons! She narrowed her eyes, took a threatening pose and let her gaze go through everybody in the room. From Sakura and Havok to Aaron to Rinoa and Alex. "Listen up, people! If any of you have even the slightest idea of where Orias and Ayame eloped, you better speak up!" "Uh... I think I saw them teleport earlier", Alex said unsurely. "And you didn't bother to tell me?!" Carrot snapped in a high-pitched voice. "Where could've they gone in their condition? It's dangerous!" "As if you'd care, Little Nurse Blackheart", Aaron Covais snickered. Carrot's temper boiled over. "I DO CARE! THEY ARE MY PATIENTS AND IT'S MY DUTY TO CARE! IF YOU DARE TO CLAIM OTHERWISE, BE SURE NOT TO GET SICK ON MY SHIFT, YOU RETARDED WEASEL!!!" Then she stormed out of the infirmary, leaving the other students staring behind her. "Somebody should probably go after her and tell that Kyosuke and Ayame must've returned to the crime scene down at the basement..." Alex said, breaking the deep silence. Rinoa nodded to Sakura and Havok. "We'll be back soon", she said to Alex, tapping his knee before she left. OoC: Hope you don't mind the company you're going to get soon, BK and Kitty. ;D
8. Jumping the bandwagon here... Carrot's classes: - Magical Weapon Training with Instructor Heishiro Aki - Supporting Magic with Instructor Elward Phoenix - Collective Elemental Magic with Instructor Merele Shandala - Practical Training with Nurse Pam Mallon Yes, her curriculum is a bit on the unusual side. Let's just say that it's specially tailored to suit Carrot's needs. ;D I didn't put them in any specific order, though, since Carrot's days are varying.
9. Since this is the very first time my screenname has ever been used in an OB-related fiction, I feel obliged to answer. Like Asphyxia, I don't feel very comfortable reading OB fanfics either. In my opinion they very often revolve around a small circle of OB-buddies, so naturally they are usually filled with inside jokes that I as an outsider don't get. Also, they usually lack a consistent storyline, and it seems their only purpose is to try to input as many OB-references and aforementioned inside jokes as possible. This, however... this feels different. This has a common feeling as 24, like Ikillion said, or Alias. I'm intrigued to see how the story progresses. The biggest plus is that in this case, OB-references are used to spice things up, this doesn't build upon them (meaning that with different names and places, this story would still work). What comes to my character... If you want to hold true to the original namesakes, make sure that Sandy's computer is filled with gay porn. XP Just kidding! Anyways, I have a gut feeling Sandy won't survive for very long... *gulps*
10. Carrot felt strange that all these years she had been attending to the same classes as this Alex Glesen, but before now they hadn't spoken even a word to each other. Alex was the quiet type of guy, sitting in the backrow, never raising his hand when a question was asked. And Carrot, she was the opposite, always sitting her back turned to the kinds of Alex, always on the front row, constantly lifting her hand up. "So... Were you scared?" Carrot asked as she viewed the monitors Alex was linked to. His pulse was still weak. "Huh?" Alex asked back. "When you fought Professor Mox. Didn't it scare you to face a magician of his prowess?" "Uh, dunno..." Alex murmured. "I didn't stop to think at that moment, I just did what my guts told me to do." Carrot smiled. "Hmm, a brave mouse, eh?" She turned around and walked to the other beds before Alex had the chance to reply. She wasn't too thrilled to treat the bastard Orias and the crazy chick Ayame, but Mallon had trusted the infirmary to her so she had to do her job. "Hi, Carrot", Ayame greeted thinly. Her eyes didn't seem to quite get a good focus, they looked a bit crossed. To her personal shock, Carrot felt sorry for the spastic girl. She even managed to give Ayame an encouraging nod and a smile. "Rinoa... and Havok... They came by here earlier. They just left before you arrived. But they should be back soon, they just went to get some of our belongings here. Nurse Mallon... said this could take a while." "I'm sure you'll be just fine by the time of the Trials", Carrot said with her most empathic tone. "After all, who else could I compete against then?" Ayame smiled at Carrot and closed her wandering eyes. OoC: Sorry that I wrote Rinoa and Havok out of the scene, but I corrected that by writing them back in - they can return to the infirmary at any time now.
11. Day 2, in the morning Carrot stepped out of her dormitory room adjusting her plaid skirt. It didn't take her long to notice that something was off in the school. There were groups of students gossiping everywhere, some looking worried, others excited. Something big had happened during the night, Carrot deduced. She wondered if it had anything to do with the burst of magic she had felt in the midnight. She tried to eavesdrop others, but couldn't make out much except that some students had been injured and were now in the infirmary. It was enough to know what she would be doing this morning - every time there had been several injured patients, the Head Instructor of the support magic studies, Elward Phoenix, would send her to aid Nurse Mallon to the infirmary. Carrot wasn't wrong, because soon enough she saw Instructor Phoenix heading her way. "Miss Burnheart, wait!" the instructor hollered. He was a middle-aged, skinny man with round glasses and a balding head. He also looked very enthralled. "I've got a perfect training session for you!" "Actually, I should be heading to magic weapon training class..." Carrot tried to object, although she knew it would be in vain. "Nonsense, Miss Burnheart! Nurse Mallon needs your aid in the infirmary with the injured students, and since these are the very same people who you will be participating to the Final Exam in three months with, you simply can't miss this opportunity!" Instructor Phoenix seemed to be so excited that it wouldn't be a surprise to Carrot if he suddenly would clap his hands and giggle. Talking about taking pleasure from somebody else's pain! "Oh, alright. I'll go, then. Could you at least tell me what's happened?" "Something very serious", the instructor said, his whole demeanor suddenly changing from joyous to grave. "Hush-hush business, faculty matters, you shouldn't interfere... Go on now, will you?" Carrot rolled her eyes in frustration and took a direction towards the infirmary. "Didn't even get breakfast..." she muttered as she walked on. She noticed how the amount of students around her grew as she approached the infirmary. Accidents happened all the time inside the Argo Arx Arcanum, but very rarely anything of this scale. The whole school was aiming it's focus on the infirmary. Suddenly Carrot was eager to see who was injured as well, and just how badly. OoC: One Carrot coming your way!
12. Actually, I was thinking we all would be preparing to the Final Exam by taking special lessons, like the one Carrot and Rinoa had about combining support- and fire magic. I mean, all the characters have already gone through all basic studies in the past years (they know how to fight, cast spells and all that stuff), and now they should just rehearse and train for their last ordeal before becoming a Risk Breaker. Anyone agree with me? Oh, and I'm thinking that Carrot's next lesson would be training with a weapon (in her case, the mace) that's been enhanced by a magi crystal. That's another example of what I mean with special classes.
13. Not at all. This is your game so you're free to do anything you want. ;D
14. Another thing that confuses me are the Instructors and other staff of the school, so I'm collecting a list of them here. Academy Faculty (in the order of appearance): Instructor Aki teaches the use of Magi (?) Instructor Merele Shandala teaches Elemental and Support magic Professor Mox teaches Black Magic Instructor Cavalier teaches weapon training Nurse Mallon runs the infirmary Instructor Uzume teaches Summoning Magic Headmaster Enteri runs the Academy Instructor Andrews teaches Blue Magic Instructor Atsu teaches Fire Magic Instructor Phoenix teaches Support Magic If I missed anybody, do tell. It would be good if we updated this list as new names came, so that we don't all use different sets of Instructors.
15. I second Acheron's idea to implement the clock in the beginning of our posts. If not specific hour and minute, then at least something in the lines of "Day 1, late afternoon". That way we can avoid all that confusion as to what time it is, and if somebody wants to return to past events (because this game is moving really fast), they can do so without worries of further mixing things up. Do I hear any agreements or objections?

17.
To Dagger. You want a challenge. Stay in Esthar and walk around till you fight a giant plant like monster. It's called Malbaro or Mallboro or something like that. If you beat that thing without the assistance of
Odin
let me know how you did it because that monster is the cheapest of cheapness, and till this day I still haven't been able to beat nor steal 6 malboro tentacles from them. To anyone that knows how to beat them things. Any tips? lol
You must be new to the series if you aren't familiar with Malboros. Seriously, no spoiler tags needed, Malboros have appeared in every FF-game ever since the sixth. ;P Malboros are the cheapness materialized, yes, and their appearance still horrifies me. Their Bad Breath causes every status ailment in the book, so the only defence against them is to junction resistance to all statuses. (You could just equip a Ribbon in other FFs to protect you, but there're no accessories in this game.) Once you have the proper protection, they shouldn't be able to harm you. Hint: most Malboros in FF8 reside in the jungle area only accessible through one of the gates outside Ultimecia's Castle, guarding the entrance to the
final Chocobo Forest
.
18. OoC: I for one am ready to move on to the nightly happenings. ~~~~~ Carrot tossed and turned in her sleep. She dreamed about men and women dressed in all white, and about Dad who was holding a pulsating red crystal. Suddenly she saw him and the other people being devoured by a fiery inferno. She felt like she was in the middle of the events, causing all the fire and destruction instead of being just a bywatcher. She woke up all sweaty and hot. The room temperature had risen and the windows were steamed up. Through the steam Carrot saw that it was still night-time. A glance at the cat-faced clock on the wall revealed that it was just past midnight. She had only slept for a couple of hours. Carrot felt some strange sensation going through her body. It was like somebody was playing with powerful magic somewhere inside the school. Carrot decided it was best not to interfere - it was probably some teacher doing dangerous experimentations. Carrot had been an unsure magic-user when she first started studying spells, but five years had taught her much, and she had grown much more accustomed to them. Other students had told her that magic was commonplace in the outside world - the magi were used both in daily chores and in warfare. Carrot knew nothing about that life, she had been brought up by Dad and other scientists inside the MENRA Labs facility. She hadn't ever even walked the streets of her birthtown, Valgrad. Sure she was bitter, and sometimes even mad to Dad about not having a similar childhood as others, but on the other side Dad had said numerous times that it was Carrot's destiny to become something much greater. Now she was studying to become a Risk Breaker, a member of the elite force raised within academies across the world - the best ones coming from Argo Arx Arcanum, or so they say. She only needed to pass the final exam, and she could go explore the outside world, to find her destiny. She wasn't going to let anything stand in her way.
19. OoC: Returning to the events of the day for a bit more. ~~~~~ As Carrot left the infirmary in a fit of irritation, she barely even noticed that she had slammed the door at someone. She marched straight to her room in the dormitory, which she had shared with a girl named Lora Castane, who had dropped out of Argo Arx Arcanum a few years back after a serious incident involving a silencing spell. Many fingers had pointed at Carrot during that time, but there was no proof for it. Carrot was just happy to have the room all for herself. "You crazy bitch!" she swore, meaning part Ayame, part herself. She sat on her bed and lay down. She stared at the ceiling for quite a while, collecting her thoughts. Then she made her decision. "Boys aside, I'm gonna have to find out what this freaking "panacean" means. Maybe Rinoa knows, she should be in the library at this time of the day..." Rinoa Ryuzaki was a new face in the school, so she wasn't around when Kyosuke Orias and some other boys bullied Carrot for her name way back when they were all still immature kids. Carrot had formed a friendly rivalry with Rinoa, without any larger animosities between them. Carrot squeezed her copy of "Elements of Life" tightly against her chest as she walked towards the library. Suddenly she walked into the last person she wanted to see. "Hey Orias, going around acting all high and mighty again huh? Daddy's kid sure has a mouth on him," Carrot remarked in the most irritating tone she could. "Asking you to have some class and discipline is an act in futility isn't it? Step aside, i have no desire to be held up by you." Carrot just laughed. "Have it your way, you just better stay out of my way when the trials start. I don't need any help from some son whose desperate to get out of his dad's shadow." Then she walked on, leaving the annoyed Orias behind her. When she finally reached the library, she found Rinoa there with Sakura Clyne. Carrot didn't know Sakura very well, but she was a friend of Kyosuke Orias, and that was enough. "Rinoa, hey!" she hollered as she approached the two girls. She smiled at Rinoa, but avoided to give Sakura even a glance. "Could you help me with our homework? I've been reading the chapters Instructor Shandala gave me, but I'm kind of stuck." "Sure, what is it?" Rinoa asked politely. "It's this term, panacean... I don't have the slightest idea of what it means, and I tried to ask Nurse Mallon about it, but..." "Did you check the References?" Rinoa asked, making Sakura giggle. "What? Ref..." Carrot was abashed. Her face went pale white, and then turned to screaming red. How could've she been so stupid not to check the References at the end of the book, where they usually explain all the difficult terms?! "Well, my copy doesn't have any! They... Somebody tore them off! So there!" she almost yelled at the two girls, who just stared at her in confusion. Carrot had no other option but to retreat before she embarrased herself any further. ~~~~~ OoC: Gawd I love highschool drama! XD I just love how Orias and Carrot act in the vicinity of each others.
20.
I'd really like to fill up that GF screen, so I have my fingers crossed that I didn't miss the opportunity to recruit one at an earlier point in the game.
If you did, you can actually draw almost all the missed GFs from the minibosses in the final dungeon. Of course by then you are at the end of the game, and you don't probably want to level them up anymore. But honestly, you'll do just fine with the GFs from the beginning and the hard-to-get GFs from the end. All the rest are just fillers who give you extra junction-slots.
21. You forgot to mention that in order to prevent page width distortion, all pictures should be 500 pixels wide at most. The other measures don't matter. Anyway, I'm excited that this finally launched, hopefully this will introduce a whole new way to roleplay on OB! I'll put up my sign-up once I find the time to make it... Here's just an example of what kind of "pages" Sara was talking about, though. Please note that this may or may not reflect to the story of the actual game. PS. Hope you didn't mind my assistance, Sara. This is your game, but since I helped you plan this I thought I had the priviledge to give an example.

Word Count?

If people have problems with writing only long posts, the answer is that they start writing shorter posts. Simple as that, no new rules or technical gimmicks to restrict the word count needed. I've noticed the problem of overly long posts in the "major quality RPGs" too, but I think that the limitations coming from the chapters, posting orders, and specific intervals of posts are to blame here, not so much the thinking that long equals quality. We "oldies" should take example from the newer members, who have no problem playing an RPG that extends over twenty pages. Sure, the grammar might not be as accurate or the story as intriguing, but still most of the games are comprehensible and the players have fun. That's one sort of "high quality" in my opinion.
23. Carrot had gone to the library to read the chapters Instructor Shandala gave her while most of the others in her age-group had gone to train with their weapons. Since Carrot was studying to become a supporting healer, she didn't need to learn the art of combat any more than she already had. She had her mace, she knew how to smack heads with it, no fineries needed. After reading on for a half an hour, she got stuck with a term she didn't quite understand. "Panacean... Huh?" she wondered, biting the end of her pencil that she used to underline important things from the book. "I better go ask Nurse Mallon." It was a studying principle of hers to go ask directly from somebody who knew instead of wasting hours of valuable time to search the answer from the school library's countless books. She packed her belongings to her bright red bag, and walked towards the infirmary. When she got there, she noticed that Nurse Mallon was busy with a patient. The nurse was a cheery woman that was nearing her fourties but was still in very good shape. Good enough to make most of the boys dream about being treated by "Nurse Melon". She greeted Carrot with a big smile as she stepped through the door. "Oh, it's you, Miss Burnheart. Seeking another answer, are you? Just hold on a minute while I get this young man fixed..." Carrot turned to look at the bed and saw a familiar guy laying on it. Alex Glesen. "Oh, it's alright, I can come back later..." Alex smiled at her too. What was that, was she actually blushing?! Because of some guy?! "No, you can stay", Alex hurried to say. "Err, if you want." Carrot saw the guy blush a bit also. How sickeningly cute. "I'm finished already", Nurse Mallon said suddenly, breaking the awkward silence. "You just rest there, Mr. Glesen." Then she turned her attention to Carrot. "I just wanted to ask about a term, "pana-"..." Carrot was interrupted by the opening door. A perky, brown-haired girl entered and dashed to Alex's bedside. Ayame, that lunatic. "Oh, Alex! Are you alright? Honestly, I didn't mean to hurt you!" "It's okay, Ayame, Nurse Mel... Mallon has treated me with her best abilities." All the while Alex was speaking to Ayame, he gave glances at Carrot who couldn't help but to stare at them. Then Nurse Mallon coughed politely, drawing Carrot's focus back to her. "Pana-what, dear?" "Uh, panacean... Oh, forget it, I'll come back another time when it's less dense in here", she said loudly to make sure Ayame heard, and marched out of the infirmary.

Word Count?

An interesting idea, for sure, but I don't think it'll sit well here. There's no point in restricting the length of a post, because there's rarely posts that extend over ten paragraphs. And if the word count was 400... Well, you can't always say everything you want to with so few words. It would also make especially new people double/triple/quadruple post more. I know the purpose is good, but I don't feel that this is the way we should enforce activity and good quality to our RPGs. There's so many different types of games out there that this just wouldn't work in practice. *wonders in horror how difficult it would've been to manage OB Survivors if there had been such limitations*
25. OoC: Hope you don't mind me using your character, Keyblade Wielder - yours and mine just have the same type of abilities that it's convenient. ~~~~~~ Carrot Burnheart was sitting in a classroom with only one other student, Rinoa Ryuzaki, and their mentor, Instructor Merele Shandala. Miss Shandala was rather young for a teacher, but her bright green, almost twinkling eyes showed that she wasn't to be fooled around with. Her skin was bronze and her hair was dark and tied into a single plait extending all the way down her back. She wore an Instructor's uniform of the color of white and beige. And this morning, she was going to teach the two female students how to combine their elemental magic skills with their supporting magic skills. "If you read the chapters I gave you, you will know that it's really rather simple. Please tell me, Miss Burnheart, what kind of magi you need to use?" Of course Carrot had read the required chapters of the "Elements of Life - Beginner's Guide To Elemental Support Magic" thoroughly last evening, so the answer came right out. "In our case, as we are proficient in the element of fire, we will have to take a small magi of fire - preferably light orange in color - and a white magi with supporting properties, and junction them together by welding them into a golden ring." Rinoa looked at Carrot as she finished her answer. Carrot wasn't sure if what she saw reflecting from the girl's eyes was admiration or jealousy. "Very good, Miss Burnheart. It just so happens that I have two of such rings here for you to practice with." Instructor Shandala handed the golden rings to the girls, and told them to wear them in their right index finger. The ring Carrot got was quite loose, but still wearable. "Now, focus on one of the spells you read from the book, and conjure it from the ring." Carrot remembered a simple spell called "Phoenix Tear", and focused on casting that. Suddenly a small, flickering flame appeared on her right hand. Carrot flinched. "Don't worry, it doesn't burn you", Instructor Shandala chuckled. "I know that!" Carrot bursted, extinguishing the spell by putting her hand into a fist. She was embarrased that she had been frightened of a healing flame, but she certainly didn't want the Instructor to think that. Meanwhile, Rinoa had managed to conjure a protective wall of fire in front of her - a much more complex spell than Carrot's. Now it was Carrot's turn to get jealous.
