A familiar sound directed both teams to the CPU, where the host of the game was waiting with two wooden crates. "Alrighty, kupo! This is your last challenge as two teams. The team of Heroines now have twice as many members than the Heroes, but it can very well work against you in this challenge." The female contestants looked at each others, mildly worried. "The name of this eight game is GTA: City of Survivors." "You will be sent to the Liberty City, where the ex-Bravers lived before, kupo." "Here is the map of the city for both teams." "And here's what you got to do there, kupo:"
1. Both teams will start at the Portland Hideout in the easternmost island (marked with 1 on the map). 2. Both teams must make it through the city to the Cochrane Dam at the Shoreside Vale (marked with 12 on the map). 3. This is where it get's tricky, kupo. On your way you will encounter many hostile gangs, such as the Triads, the Hoods, the Yakuza and the Mafia. The police isn't a friend of yours in this city either, kupo. 4. Neither team will have a vehicle at dispose, so both of them must jack them from the street. Because the Heroines have six members, they must either find a really big car or take two. 5. When both teams have arrived to the goal, I will judge the winner based on performance and street-credibility, if you get what I mean, kupo. *wink*
"Oh, and now you're probably wondering what these two crates are for, kupo. They're actually filled with all sorts of weapons for you to use on this challenge. Both teams will get one crate, and they will teleport with you to the Portland Hideout." "Oh, and one little thing: you may use the weapons you get against the gangs and the police, but don't try to sabotage your rivals' effort, or there'll be consequences. Consequences, I tell you, kupo!" "Now, are the Survivors kupo? I mean, ready? Then Game On!"

Currently I'm mentally fiddling with a few ideas for the next challenge, but I hope to start one during this weekend. It's been pretty quiet in the game thread this week, but I guess it's understandable after the freakishly-long Pokémon challenge. ;P Anyways, don't worry - this game will go on! ;D
-
Like Mimminx, I definately sense a story behind these pictures. Especially the first four would make a fine bunch of lunatic cartoon pirates. ;D Gah, I'm so in love with the Cat Pirate!
-
You're hilarious, DW! XD That's all I can say... ... Well, not really. Your humor is very appealing in it's simplistic but stupefying way. I especially love the strips where you fiddle with famous phrases and sayings. ;D Keep it going, please!
-
Oh... I surely read that, but that was ages ago! XP Mmmokay, I'm glad you were on to it (so I wasn't totally wrong ;P ), but I'm even more glad that this thread - no matter how needless it would've been - didn't turn into a flamefest like oh-so-many previous Feedback-threads of mine. Thankies for that, everybody! ;D
I guess I do not fully understand your concerns. Do you feel the forums are not well under wraps? That there are not dealt with quickly? Or are you just trying to help us few out? Maybe this was already stated in your opening post, but it was not clear to me.
A bit of all of them, actually. I check OB quite often during the evening (because my computer is almost constantly open), so I see much spam that doesn't linger long thanks to current mods, but still it bothers me. I'm also wondering how one mod finds the time to moderate a whole section of this board (which are quite large and active in comparison to some other boards)? It sometimes seems like an unpaid side-job, at least to me. :/ I would be totally stressed out if I had to moderate for example Arena Underground all by myself. There's much spam there that is eventually removed by Bio (or some admin or another perceptive mod), so it must be quite tiring for one person. Though, what do I know... Well, that's also one of the reasons I created this thread. Aren't you bothered? Do you feel you have too much responsibility? Guess I'm just a "worried citizen". ;P But also, one can also ask "why not more moderators?" Again, it would stabilize the boards, ease the workload of forum moderators, and decrease the amount of "visible" spam. Sounds good, doesn't it. So, why not? ;D PS. I realize I'm sounding like I created this thread solely to try to become a mod, but those of you who know me know that's not true. I just want to be a part of improving this community, and this is a feedback section, right? ,:)

Modssss, needssss more modssss.... ...Erhm, really, this is something that has been bothering me for a good while now (I even remember PM'ing one of the admins about this issue once in the past). The thing is that compared to any other larger scale messageboard on the web, OB has a minuscule amount of moderators. Ten common mods, two speshul ones and three admins... Even my lacking mathskills tell that it's not much for a board with this many registered members With all due respect to the current mods, there's only so much one man or a woman can do... The number of new members joining seems to be increasing each passing day, and although spamming hasn't gotten out of hands (yet), it's still visible everywhere. I for one would feel much more comfortable and "secure" if there was more control here... I know for a fact (cause I was a member then) that we used to have many more mods - some more active than others, though - in the past, but I don't know what was wrong with that? :/ Why can't there be two or three mods per section, what's the harm (at least compared to the benefit)? So... I'm just asking is anybody else bothered by this fact? Or do I just have too much freetime to spend here, worrying about stuff that aren't my concern. ;P Thanks for any answers in advance! ;D

The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty of 2005 (Nominations Thread)
Sandy replied to Shy's topic in General Discussion
First of all: *blush* Then, to my nominations (I'm trying to put in things that have yet to receive nominations): Arena Underground Still one of my favorite places at the OB, where people can join in conversation about their RPGs or ask for help in making their own games. But the best thing about it is that it has made forum-based RP'ing much easier, simpler and more fluid than ever before. And that's nifty! DW's Game Maker Thread Though it's currently on a bit of hiatus, on the brief few weeks I was active in it were some of my most creative time in these boards. Truly inspiring, with many multi-talented people putting their heads together to create something new. Nift-ay! Play It Thread Directory and Official (Anime) Thread Directory Although I haven't gotten a chance to use them very often, I think those are some of the most useful features that are unique to OB (at least to my knowledge). Forget tiring page-scrolling and copious threads with the same content - all titles you seek are only a few clicks away! Now if only some of the new members noticed the stickies as well... Anyway, they're totally nifty! Holiday Banners Halloween and Christmas at the OB were made particularly special this year - hope we'll get more eye-candy this new year as well! That'd be just nifty! Well, that's about it for me... Although many other things and members were pretty nifty in my opinion as well, it's like I said: I wanted to bring something new to the pile. Just to keep it nifty. ;P -
After both teams had brought their investigations to conclusion, they returned to the CPU to tell the results to Mog the Moogle. "We are sure-a, that the hamster committed a suicide-a by using a remote control for the microwave!" Mario announced. "Well, we followed the leads that indicate that the final act was done by the Purple Tentacle" Ada said. "Kupopo, very interesting... Very different results you both had... But only the other team was correct, and they were... The Heroines of the Golden Lotus, winning for the third time in a row, kupo!" "Mamma mia, this is like-a the Adventurers all over again-a!" Mario sighed, slapping his forehead. "Well, Heroes of the Iron Fists, you know very well what this means for you, kupo. Once again somebody is getting deleted." "Before we get anymore maniac around here, kupo, it's time to vote." One by one, the Heroes - Mario, Shadow, Kuja and Crash - went to give their votes, and once they all had done so, Mog went to tally the result. "Kupo, the ninth person deleted from the OtakuBoards Survivor is..." Kuja "Oh noes! Is this the end of my fabulousness?!" Kuja howled as his form slowly dissipated. "Oh well, I just can't seem to ever win..." "Now that's out of the way, kupo, you three can return to your lodge to wait for the last challenge as two teams. But remember, Game On!"
-
Yeah, I meant that the "suicide"-ending is overused and not very surprising. The Heroines managed to make out a whole chain of events that led to the brutal death. But you Heroes started out extremely well, and I was for a good while sure that you'd take this one home. Well, you still have one more challenge to outplay the Heroines and get the first female contestant deleted. And Heroines, I'm 100% sure that you'll do your everything to not let that happen. ;D EDIT: my post in the game thread is edited with the eviction of Kuja/Ezekiel, who was unanimously voted out. We've reached halfway in this game, folks! Nine characters have been deleted, nine still remain to compete for the title of the Videogame Survivor. Things are only getting more intense.. ;D Next challenge will be up before the end of this week (once I figure out what it could be, as my original idea cannot be executed now that there's a 3-6 situation in the teams). Meanwhile, keep the Game On, people! ;D
-
Okay, the victory of the seventh challenge goes - once again - to the Golden Lotuses. This means another male contestants is shortly getting voted out (and I have a good hunch on who it'll be). But things are looking brighter for Heroes, because there is only one more challenge before the Next Big Twist (tm). ;D Before that, though, I need your votes. EDIT: Forgot to tell why the Heroes lost, tired me... :P Well, the Heroine's posts were altogether more amusing and of better quality. Also, I thought the "suicide"-conclusion was a bit cheesy and cliché. Well, better luck next time! ;D
-
Alrighty, it seems I have to extend this challenge with one day, so that the Heroes can wrap up their investigation as well. So around the same time tomorrow on Monday, the Maniac Mansion Murder Mystery should be done for. Hmm, you Iron Fists should really try to catch up with the Heroines - you still have all chances of winning this challenge if you put yourselves into it! And I'm not being biased here, mind you, I just want to cheer everybody to keep the Game On! ;D
-
Yes, both teams are on the Maniac Mansion, but they have separate investigations, so they may find out different things from the suspects. Hope that clarifies it...
-
The seventh challenge of the game, Maniac Mansion Murder Mystery, is now up! For those of you who doesn't know, it's based on a classic adventure game of the Lucas Arts, Maniac Mansion, only that I twisted it a bit. Now it's up to the two teams to solve who murdered the pet hamster. There's a long list of suspects who were at the house when the murder happened. The catch is that there's no predetermined culprit - it can be anybody from the list. Both teams have until Sunday to come up with their own solution, after which I'll judge who was right based on the quality, humor and wacky twists in the posts. All ten players are allowed to participate, and I hope you have fun with this event after the tiring Pokémon hunt. ;D I'll be around to answer all questions, but now... Game On!

The Heroes had barely time to recover from the loss of yet another member, when the teleporter summoned them back to the CPU. The Heroines, on the other hand, came to face the new challenge filled with confidence and arrogance. At the CPU, Mog greeted them hovering in front of the familiar holographic screen. "Welcome everybody, kupo! Now is the time for your seventh challenge, which I call Maniac Mansion Murder Mystery." The contestants looked at each other quite baffled. "This is where you're heading, kupo", Mog said and a picture appeared to the screen behind him. "Something awful has happened at the Maniac Mansion. The owner's son's hamster has been found brutally murdered! Poor thing, kupo..." "But now its up to you to solve the murder mystery. The team who does that within the given time is obviously the winner, kupo! But before you go, let's see the suspects." This is the poor hamster that lost it's life in such a kuporrible way. RIP. This is the owner of the hamster, Weird Ed Edison, son of Dr. Edison and a militant psychopath. This is Dr. Fred Edison, owner of the Maniac Mansion and your resident mad scientist. This is Sandy Pantz, the aforementioned girlfriend who has been kidnapped by Dr. Edison for unknown experiments. This is Razor, the brash lead singer of a punk band and one of Dave's companions. He's more of a wannabe than a pro, though. This is another of Dave's friends called Wendy. She's a nosey journalist for the school paper. Last member of Dave's bunch of rag-tag friends is Jeff Woodie. He's just a dopey surfer, so he's not a suitable suspect for the murder... isn't he? This is Dead Cousin Ted, one of the Edisons. But... he's dead, kupo! Could've done it, though. One of them's utterly evil, but I can't remember which one, kupo... Last and least, this is Chuck the Plant. 'Nuff said, kupo. "So, which suspect did it? Who commited the heinous murder of a beloved pet? It's up to you to figure out, Survivors. The teleporters will take you to the mansion." "Teams, kupo? Game On!"
-
Actually, I got Blayze's/Wraith's vote as well. But if what you say is the case for the next challenge, then... well, then it just sucks to be at the Heroes team... :/ This'll be interesting, though. ;D
-
It unfortunately came to this: I had to evict Outlaw/CJ from the game, even though he got only two votes from his team mates, and two people didn't vote yet. I just feel it's time to move this Game On, and if Outlaw's computer is broken, he isn't going to be able to participate anyway... :/ Well, I hope I wasn't too hasty. The good news is that the next challenge will be up as soon as possible (most likely tomorrow), and boy will it be a fun one. ;D The next one is all about quality, so either team can win it if they put their hearts into it. There's something for you guys to look forward to. ;D PS. In case you haven't noticed, I've been editing the first post of this thread with the deleted players and people's name-changes.

After all the five Heroes of the Iron Fists had voted, Mog went to see the result like usual. "Hmm, I see, kupo... The next person deleted from the OtakuBoards Survivor: Game On is..." Carl Johnson The black thug stood up, flailing his arms. "Aw man, I knew I shouldna taken that nap!" Then his arms began to disperse into tiny particles. "Eeh, what the &%#! is happening to me?! Stop that, it tickles!" CJ's voice echoed in the vast space of the CPU even after the last part of him had faded away. "Ten contestants remain, kupo. I think you Heroes should get back to the Temple and rethink your strategy if you're going to beat the girls. See you in the next kupocious challenge!" Silently Mario, Kuja, Shadow and Crash made their way to the teleporter, each of them very aware that they now had two members less than the other team.

Thanks, Baron. You solved one of my biggest problems in life! ;D ... Yeah, I really don't have many problems anymore. XP Anyways, the little foreigner me forgot that there's such a word as arse. I still have to call donkeys 'donkeys', though. :P
-
I'm not a big fan of censorship myself, but in this case I understand it totally. It's just that us Finns are known for our use of swear words ("perkele", anyone? :P ), and as a nation, I believe we see the good side of "letting out steam verbally". My main gripe in the censors of this forum is that I can't say the word that starts with "a" and has a double "s" following it. Come on, it's a part of everybody's bodies (and saying "bottom" feels childish to me), not to mention it's also an animal, and a part of many useful compound words. ;D Hmm, I wonder if I can say... assassin! 8P
-
The next challenge will begin as soon as I get the votes of Outlaw and Ezekiel. Patience, people... ;D Oh, and I'd like to ask the Heroines to post something to the game thread, to keep it up and to prevent me from having to edit my last post. ;D
-
Actually, I intended that there was only one of each kind of Pokémon in the Safari Zone (just to avoid multiple people catching the same creatures over and over again) but meh, whatever. ;P And this challenge wasn't about quality posts like most, just for the variety. I assure that you'll get to post long and detailed posts that actually affect the outcome in near future, though. ;D
-
The sixth challenge - the longest one yet - has wrapped up, and the women are victorious once again. Congrats! ;D Sorry for the possible lack of input to my posts, I'm wholesomely exhausted because of the lack of sleep that the New Year has caused me... XP I'll be in better shape for the next challenge, which will take place next week. Before that, the team of Heroes will diminish to four members. Who will leave next? Keep the Game On and find out... ;P
-
A loud horn indicated the end of the challenge. The survivor candidates gathered to the gate of the Pokémon Safari, where they were teleported back to the CPU. "Here again, kupo!" Mog greeted them. "Do sit down, everybody. This was a demanding challenge, and a long one too, kupo. Both teams worked hard..." Mog gave a disapproving glance at Carl Johnson, who rubbed his eyes after the long nap he took at the Safari. "...Well, some of you harder than others, but I'm afraid the lack of one member in the Iron Fists' team affected much as well. Let's see the final scores, kupo!" Heroines of the Golden Lotus: 70/100 Heroes of the Iron Fists: 56/100 "As it seems, the Heroines managed to capture 14 more creatures than the Heroes in the given time, and are thus the winners of the Gotta Catch 'Em All! Congrats, kupo!" The women cheered in their accustomed way, and gave cocky gestures at the Heroes before they departed. Mog turned to the devastated male contestants. "Beaten by the girls again, kupo? Well, you know what this means: one of you five will get deleted from this game soon. Heroes of the Iron Fists, it's time for another Team Council. Without further kuponess, let's vote."
-
I'm ba-ack! ;D It seems that the Heroines won this round as well, but I guess I have to skim through the eight pages worth of posts before I make the final judgment. :/ This might take a while, so bear with me... Oh, and congrats to everybody on making it to the year 2006! ;P Expect the Game to be On this year as well. JJ: At this moment I have no idea who "Pretty" is, but based on former events in this game, I'd say you are allowed to keep her(?) and the Pokédex, but obviously Ada isn't allowed to use them at challenges - she must rely to her own given talents like the rest.
