1. Of course the teams are in the same area, and since there is only one individual creature per kind, both teams can't capture the same Pokémon. What comes to your second question, each Pokémon in the evolution line is counted as separate individual, so there's e.g. one Charmander, one Charmeleon and one Charizard roaming in the Safari.
2. Yep, every Pokémon ever created (official, though, not fanmade) can be found at the Pokémon Safari, and I believe there to be nearly 400 of them nowadays. 8) And I didn't mention it because it's kinda obvious, but everybody can post to their heart's content - just don't double/triple/multiple post, and remember the one Pokémon/post limit. ;D EDIT: and it would be wise to keep count on how many Pokémons your team has caught, because you only have the 100 Pokéballs at your disposal.
3. First of all, I want to apologize for the Pokémon-theme in this freshly-launched challenge. XP Now, this game is all about posting, and posting with precision. There are 100 Pokéballs per team, so both teams can catch up to 100 Pokémon. Simply put (and as the rules state), the team with the most captured critters by the end of this challenge will win. Of course the wisest tactic would be to scatter around individually, but you can also work in pairs or larger groups. The most important things to remember is that a player can't catch more than one creature/post, and that there are only one of each kind of Pokémon. All posts with two Pokémons captured, or that describes a capture of a Pokémon that has already been catched by somebody else, will be disqualified. This challenge requires some research as well, if you are to find other Pokémons besides Pikachu (cause he's the one everybody knows). But fret not, as this challenge will continue until the 1st of January 2006, due to my depart to my internetless grandma's house for the holidays. You can ask still any questions concerning this challenge today, since I'm going to leave tomorrow. Happy hunting everybody, and keep the Game On! ;D PS. Sorry Des, I know you don't like this sort of challenges, but at least everybody will have time to post now, even if they would depart elsewhere for the holidays as well.
4. The two teams were once again summoned to the CPU by Mog the Moogle, the ever-so-cute host of the game. "You are kupolly welcome, survivors, to your sixth challenge. This contest will require precision, keen observation and most of all, activity." "The name of the game is, kupo, the all-too-familiar Gotta Catch 'Em All!" "Soon, both teams will be teleported to the Pokémon Safari." "And here comes the rules for the game:"
1. I have released to the Safari one of every imaginable Pokémon - yes, kupo, even the legendary ones. Remember, there isn't two of a kind. 2. Once you get there, both teams will scatter around the area in search of those Pokémons. 3. Both teams are given one hundred custom-made Survivor Pokéballs, which enables catching Pokémon without hurting it first, kupo. 4. The tricky part is that you can only catch one Pokémon on your turn, and the balls will run out eventually. (Also, keep in mind that you can't hunt a Pokémon that somebody else has already caught.) 5. In the end, kupo, the team with more captured Pokémons is the winner - no matter how easy or hard they were to catch. 6. If both teams manage to get one hundred critters before the time runs out, one final decisive Pokéball will appear somewhere to the Safari, and whoever finds it and catches a Pokémon with it will be the winner.
"The mission is simple, kupo, but it will require lots of work to beat your opposing team." "Survivors ready, kupopo? Then Game On, already!"
5. I understand how you feel, Lrb, but please trust me to be completely impartial in this game. And I had no way of knowing whether KKC is a he or she, so I just had to take a wild guess... X/ Anyways, the main thread is now updated with Fox's eviction, feel free to continue posting, and expect a new challenge to launch within few days. ;D Just to keep up the excitement, I'm gonna reveal that the next challenge is going to require a huge amount of balls. ;P
6. The winner of the challenge, Sleeping with the Undead is clear. It's the Gold Team with their superior performance. Sorry for the lack of... well, imagination in this challenge. :/ I was going to implement a killing system to it, but I just couldn't figure out how it would be done fairly and in the time limit. But I assure you, the next challenge will be much more demanding. ;D Game On! EDIT: KKC has volunteeringly left the game, so the voting ends before it really began. He is thus the seventh person out of OB Survivor: Game On.
7. Both the Heroes and the Heroines were exhausted from fending off the endless hordes of zombies, when finally a ray of hope reached them. "Look!" Crash hollered at Fox and Kuja. "The day is breaking!" The women also saw the rising sun appearing to the eastern sky. Yuna almost bursted into tears from relief. "It's... over." As the sphere of the sun came into sight, all the zombies burrowed back to the soil of the graveyard in panic. Both teams started walking to the open gate in complete silence.
8. Boatman of Acheron ~rated PG~ A gondola drifted in the complete darkness. The only light it had was a green lantern attached to it's bow. A single figure was on the boat, slowly paddling down the dark river in silence. The former Keeper of the Beast knew that his work contract had expired when the rockheaded man had blown up the Temple of Aton. He had decided that it was better not to stick around when it happened. The old man sighed bitterly between his sown lips. So this was how it felt to be unemployed. Suddenly the gondola shook faintly. The Keeper looked up and saw that a naked, black-skinned woman had appeared on the boat. He knew this woman well. "Nemesis, what gives me the honor?" he sent a telepathic message to the demoness. "Did she get it?" Nemesis asked with her freezing voice. "Who? What?" "The whip, you senile mummy! Did my daughter get it?" The Keeper knew better than to play games with the she-demon of vengeance, and nodded. "Good..." Nemesis said approvingly, and extended her long black arm into the dark water of the river. The spot she touched began to glow eerily. "The souls of this river will amplify the power of the whip tremendously. I was a fool to underestimate the hazards of the Plane of Mortals. What about you, Zamborak?" The old man shuddered. He hadn't heard that name in aeons! He faintly recognized it as his own. Zamborak... "What about me? I'm not going anywhere, gyah." "I have an... interesting offer for you. The Overlords of Hell could use a new raftsman to this river. The current one is... unqualified. What do you say?" "You're asking me to come to Hell with you?" the gondolier asked baffled. "Gyah, why the hell not?"
9. Minako, lookie here:
Gold Team will be launching their new mission sometime later, hopefully to coincide with the completion of Silver Team's mission. -Shy
Oh, Dead Seraphim, I love you too!
10. So Melinoë's on a break for now... I think that's only a positive thing, with my OB Survivor going on and all. ;) But Shy, didn't you say you'd reveal the reasons why the eight of us were chosen to the Body Bags after it would end? I for one would like to know what put me at risk, so I know how to improve my future output.
11. Writing, yes. Teamwork.... not really, although that's a plus too. ;D What I'm looking here is innovative use of your characters' skills in order to survive the grueling night. That requires good posts from each of you, although in this challenge I'm not looking into who posts and who doesn't (mainly because this is such a short challenge). Hope this clears up things, 'Kesh. ;D
12. The fifth challenge, Sleeping with the Dead, has begun! Let's see which team will use their survival skills more effectively to make it out of a zombie-infested cemetery alive. >;D As said in my previous post, the contest will last until Sunday. Any questions you have, you can ask them here. Game On... and on... and on... ;P
13. The teleporters summoned the two newly-formed teams from their new camping places to the familiar blueness of CPU. "Heroes and Heroines of OB Survivor, it's time for your fifth challenge, kupo", Mog explained. Some contestants made eye-contact with their former team members now placed on the opposing teams, but all of them knew they must be loyal to their new teams now. "The name of this kuporrible game is Sleeping with the Dead. In this challenge you will travel to the kingdom of Gallowmere, more precisely to the Cemetery of the Fortesque Clan." "Here comes the rules, kupo:"
1. This challenge tests your survival skills, as both teams are locked to a zombie-infested graveyard for a whole kupo night. 2. You must use every bit of your brains and brawn to make it through the night, kupo! 3. If a character happens to suffer a horrible and kupocious death in the hands of the living dead, he or she is sent to the CPU, kupo. 4. The winning team is the one who has used their kupo abilities to their advantage in the more innovative way. 5. You can slay the zombies as much as you like, kupo; they won't run out!
"Are the rules clear, kupo? If they are, I'll send you to the gates of the graveyard, which will be locked for the night after you enter. Scared yet, kupopo?" Ling Xiaoyu swallowed noisily, and even the Iron Fists looked a bit uneasy. "Survivors ready? Game On!"
14. OoC: I'm sorry for the extremely long post, but try to read through it as it contains important exposition gained from our honored Arbiter. The front of the gondola scraped the stone pier as they arrived to the other side of the Soulflow. "Here you are. No need to tip - it's not like I can get anywhere to spend it, gyah!" the Keeper of the Beast laughed at their minds. Melinoë pitied the old man - doomed for eternity as a gondolier in a river filled with souls of the death, and having nothing else to do but to come up with bad jokes. Unhate got off the boat, followed by Vernacular and Melinoë. They were standing in front of another tunnel, but this one was paved all over with gold. There were carvings on the gilded walls, all picturing some sort of gory ritual of sacrifice, watched over by a radiant eye. "Let's go", Unhate said bluntly. "Are you sure, positive, certain?" Vernacular asked in amazement. The man just nodded, and walked into the tunnel. Melinoë was about to follow, when the Keeper of the Beast stopped her. "I believe this belongs to you, twoface." She turned around, and saw the old man hold a familiar item - the infernal scythe-whip Phlegethon! But it had changed. It was no longer burning, or even red. It was now deep blue, with an aura of frost around it. The edge of the blade was jagged. "The Soulflow changed it. It is now imbued with the wrath of all those who died here. Oh, and it has a new name too, after the true name of this river." The Keeper smiled with his shut-sown mouth. "Acheron." Melinoë gasped. Acheron was the river of wails in Hell! So it must stream to this place as well... "Melinoë, are you coming?" Vernacular asked from the corridor, interrupting Melinoë's thoughts. The half-demon took the whip back from the Keeper, and felt the familiar sense of power that came from it, only this time it was accompanied by a more deeper feeling. An eternal hatred and lust for revenge... Melinoë gave a thanking nod to the Keeper of the Beast, and quickly ran after her two team-mates. She caught up with Unhate and Vernacular in front of a golden door at the end of the corridor. The door had a large carving of the shining eye. "Eye of Aton..." Melinoë whispered. Unhate pushed the door open, and the threesome stepped in. They walked into a room lighted by thousands of candles. The light reflected from the golden walls, but didn't reach the ceiling. At the center of the room there was an altar, where sat a small woman with crossed legs. The woman was a horrible sight - even to Melinoë. Her skin - or what was left of it - was strained to her skeleton. The sockets of her eyes were empty, and her gaping mouth toothless. Her white hair was like a spider's web around her skull. She was wearing the remains of a dress, that seemed to disperse on the lightest touch. What was most horrible about her was the fact that she was still alive. The old woman raised her right hand, slowly and feebly, but they could see that in her palm was a golden medal with the Eye of Aton. Suddenly a searing light shot out of the medal, blinding the three Legionnaires momentarily. When Melinoë regained her vision, she saw that she an image of a savanna behind the corpse-like woman. "I am... the Beast." Melinoë saw a procession walking through the savanna, and arriving to a temple. It was the same temple as the one above them. The procession was made of black-skinned tribal warriors lead by a negro woman wearing a white dress and a golden head-ornament. "Oh Aton, you gave me such powers! But what a curse you put upon me at the same!" Melinoë watched as the priestess in the illusion walked into the main hall of the temple with the warriors. Suddenly the warriors were surrounded by monsters with the upper body of a woman and the tail of a serpent. The creatures began slaughtering the warriors, until the hall was covered in the men's blood. "I did as you told me to. Your sacred Lamias took the lives of the greatest warriors in all Black Lands. I was your most loyal follower." Melinoë couldn't believe the same beautiful priestess was now sitting before them as the Beast. The illusion continued, with the young priestess sitting on the same altar as the ancient woman was now. "My body and soul were tied to this temple, and you promised that as long as this temple stood, I would live. Little did I know then that my body would decay at the same..." The vision showed other warriors entering the temple, and getting devoured by the many monsters living there. "My only escape was to feast with the minds of those who were foolish enough to enter. By driving them insane, I got the power to preserve my body. All this while serving you, my God. I sought for suitable successors for my priesthood among those who came here. And now I've found another one." The vision vanished, and the Legionnaires were brought back to reality. Melinoë saw the woman extending her index finger to point at something. She pointed at Unhate.
15. About the schedual: Tomorrow on Friday the next challenge will begin, and it'll continue until Sunday. On Sunday there'll be a Team Council, in which one player will get the boot. Next Wednesday I'll give you a challenge that will last over the holidays, and end on Sunday, the first day of the year 2006. Meanwhile, you should take the time to get your characters know other contestants. Considering the rest of the game, getting a few trusted allies will get you far. ;D Let the scheming and conspiring begin! Game On!
16. Actually, we have a female president, Tarja Halonen, here in Finland - has been for six years now, and in February she's most likely going to be selected for another six-year-period. According to the most recent polls, she has about 58%of the Finns supporting her, as opposed to her seven rivals (yes, we have that many parties in this country). Here's her English website: http://www.tarjahalonen.fi/en/index.php If some of you Americans have watched Conan O'Brien lately, you should know that he has become one of Tarja Halonen's supporters in this election - just because they look strikingly similar. ;P What comes to her job description, the presidency in Finland is mostly based on representation, but she's also head of the Finnish Army, and she nominates the ministers to the government. "Despite" her being a woman, she's done a wonderful job, and we Finns are - as the polls show - very proud of her. We even had a female prime minister last year, but her "reign" only lasted for few months before she had to step down because of some scandals in her election. Finland has always been one of the precursors in the equality of the sexes, but I believe once the people of USA and other countries that haven't had a female president will eventually have one - just because there is no reason not to have one, if she's more capable than the male candidates. ;D
17. And we have moved on. ;) All the female characters are now on the Gold Team (their color code is simply 'gold'), and the men are at the Iron Team (their color code is 'gray'). They can also be called the Heroines and the Heroes, or Golden Lotuses and Iron Fists, whatever is your preference. The Spying Mirror that the Blue Team won in their first challenge, has now transferred to the Iron Team, because the majority of the Adventurers are now in that team. The new camps - Lotus Garden and Temple of Warriors - are both remote and recluse places that the characters can't leave. Although the pictures are taken from two specific games - Soul Calibur 3 and Golden Sun: the Lost Age, respectively - they are not located in those worlds, or even if they are, the characters wouldn't know about it. I hope you are satisfied with this solution - it'll surely mix things up a lot. ;D If you have any questions about this new situation, don't hesitate to ask! The next challenge will begin before the weekend. I'd like to inform you all that on next week's Thursday I'll be heading away for the holidays, but I'll probably leave you all with a challenge that lasts until the beginning of the next year (I'll be coming back then). Before that, we will have time to enter into one Team Council, where this time only one person from either team will get deleted. Meanwhile, Game On, folks!
18. The teleporters in the Liberty Tower, Solitary Island and Archadian Airship signaled the contestants that it was time to go. "Fahrenheit..." Yuna said quietly. "I promise that if I win this competition, I will ask Mog if I can have you as a reward." "Wait!" Krystal hollered to her teammates. "What about the Spying Mirror?! If we are to divide into two teams, who's going to get it?" "Take it with you", Fox adviced. "Let Mog decide." "Carl Johnson, will you wake up, you lazy bum!" Ling Xiaoyu screamed and kicked the snoring CJ who was still sleeping in the couch. "It's time to go!" "Wha...?" Once all three teams had arrived to the CPU, Mog the Moogle appeared out of thin air. "Very kupo! You are all here. Now, after this game began, one third of the players has been deleted out of it. So congrats to you twelve for making it this far, kupo!" "In the beginning you were divided into three teams - the Adventurers, the Bravers and the Legends. Very soon, those teams cease to exist, kupo, and they will be replaced by two teams of six." Suddenly two round symbols appeared on the floor on both sides of Mog. "Lara Croft, will you please step over to this kupo symbol on my right." "And Mario Mario, can you walk here to my left, kupo." The other contestants watched anxiously as Lara and Mario left their old teams and stepped on the two circles. It was evident that they would continue to be on different teams. "Ling Xiaoyu and Yuna, please join Lara, kupo. Kuja and Shadow the Hedgehog, you can go to Mario." The Green Team ceased to exist, as its three remaining members got divided into the two teams. "Carl Johnson, Fox MCloud and Crash Bandicoot, you are all on Mario's team as well, kupo. Samus Aran, Krystal and Ada Wong, please go to Lara and the other girls." Many of the contestants gasped in amazement. It was now a battle of the sexes! "These are your new teams, kupo! The ladies standing on the gold flower are..." The Heroines of the Golden Lotus "And the team of gentlemen on the metal hand are known as..." The Heroes of the Iron Fist The contestants started to cheer and holler, while greeting their new team members. "I can't believe this! An all-girl team!" Xiaoyu sighed with glee. "I'm still not going to do your hair", Samus Aran warned. Meanwhile, Fox and Crash congratulated each other for making it to the same team. "We've-a got a good bunch in this team", Mario said with a wink. "Kupo, kupo! May I have your attention for one more moment?! You are probably wondering where your new camps are. Without further hijinks, I will reveal that the Heroines of the Golden Lotus will lodge at the..." Lotus Garden "And the Heroes of the Iron Fist at..." Temple of Warriors "Both locations are excellent for training in the arts of combat and meditation, kupo. Now you may..." "Excuse me, can I interrupt?" Krystal asked. "Which team should get the Spying Mirror the former Adventurers won at the first challenge?" "Ah yes, kupo... Well, because most of the members of that team are now at the Iron Fists, I'd say it was only fair to give it to them, kupo." "So be it", Krystal said with a faint smile, and handed the small mirror to Fox. "Now, as I was saying, kupo... you may now teleport to your new homes, and wait for a call to the next challenge, which will take place kupobly soon." "Heroes and Heroines, Game On!"
19. Hey Shinji, thanks for playing! Pacman was one exiting character, too bad it was his turn to go... :/ Anyways, do the remaining players still want to bid farewell to their old lodging places, or should we move on with the game? ... Yes, I'm letting you decide, for once. ;P
20.
1 post a week is an amazing effort from some people.[/color']
If I remember correctly, when Shy specifically asked in the recruitment thread how often people could post, most of us put at least once a week. Besides, nobody can be so busy that they don't find half an hour in a week to write one post. It's all a matter of motivation and inspiration, and those come inside you. Baron is absolutely right - if people lag in posting their stuff, others will get fed up, and what will that do to the event? But let's just be happy that so far there's only so few that have quit the game from their own free will. We can keep this event blooming, if we work together. ;D ... That is, if we don't get killed off by the Shyminator first. X(
21.
I vote the current system, with one modification - if a scheduled poster can't post, and hasn't given any impression that they will, after a set amount of times (week? fortnight?) then the next poster can step up. Easy, simple.[/color']
You'd think so, but you're forgetting that there already was such a limit in the posting (at least we in the Gold Team had it), and it leaked like a rusty sewer pipe! Sometimes there was even a month before anybody posted (I couldn't because I was the last in line), and although our team was the second to finish, it certainly took a lot of time for four people to write two posts each... And I still question the superior quality of those posts, meaning that in my opinion they would've been in most cases just the same if people had written them in an hour or two. I hope Shy doesn't want to turn this event into the like of Kill Adam, which gets like one post in half year, because then he would have even more players getting fed up with the event... :/ Do I have to remind you all that there are still players who haven't got a chance to post anything (outside the Arbiter) in this event? Because there's such a massive amount of people involved, I feel it requires a faster pace. When you feel like posting, do what I do: put a note into the thread with the words "writing in progress" and then edit the post, so you don't have to worry about somebody getting there first and blowing off your ideas.
22.
On a different note: Do you feel that posting on a more regular basis effects the quality of the posts? Would you rather post less frequently, and have something more coherent overall? We may be switching the post system with the next round of posting. Something similar to what is being done in Body Bags seems likely. Questions? Comments? -Shy
In my opinion posting more often doesn't affect the quality unless you let it. Like Takuya said, writing in hurry is what eats the quality. I personally always write my posts directly to the thread itself, without editing them much afterwards (except the grammatic errors, of course). Some people may do it otherwise, and spend much more time writing their stuff, but I haven't get any complains about the quality of my posts either so far... (unless that's the reason I'm in the Body Bags currently. XP ) So to me, the system we're using in the Body Bags currently (aka "the traditional system") is much better, it gives you more control on your character as well as the story. Also it enables interaction between players much better. The one post/day limit is in itself enough to prevent worst cases of godmodding. If you ask me, I say you keep this system. ;D
23. I'm just wondering when the heads start to roll, as there's only less than five days left before the Body Bags close... :/ Is it going to be one big massacre, or are the majority of participants going to survive after all? So far the mission has been pretty... bland. There hasn't been much tension (at least I haven't noticed any), because the anticipated aura of death haven't hovered above the players after all. Sure, three people have been announced dead in the thread, but they're all characters of unative players. To borrow the words from my own RPG: Game On already! :P
24. Red Team, you seemed to have mixed opinions who should go, but ultimately it appeared to be Shinji. He has now joined JimiWiggy11, Sinistra, Deucalion, Unborn Lord Xion and Kitty in the list of deleted players. As said, the game is taking a big turn next, when the three teams will merge into two. Trust me, this is where the game really begins. You twelve remaining players have only passed the first phase (or 'level' as we could say in videogame terms) of this game, but it will continue as long as there's only one player left. And boy, will that take long! XP Gotta keep the Game On, folks!
25. Mog the Moogle called Pacman and Fox McCloud back from the Solitary Island where they had been sent to relax for a bit. It was now time to hear which of them was going to be deleted from the Adventurers. "The Bravers has now made up it's mind, kupo. Let's hear it." Xiaoyu coughed and said: "We had a long discussion about this, but ultimately we ended up choosing... Pacman The yellow sphere sighed loudly, and dispersed into particles. "Good luck guys! It was tough being a ball among you limbed critters, but you made it all worthwhile..." After a moment of silence, Mog spoke again. "So, twelve kupo contestants remain. Congratulations you have all reached the next level of this game! Legends, Adventurers, you may both now return to your camps to say goodbye to them, kupo, because once you come back here, you will never see them again." "Soon you will both be summoned back here, along with the Bravers, and you are going to merge into two teams, kupo. Both teams will also get a new camping place. How will all this happen, you will hear when the time comes, kupo. For now, keep the Game On!"
