I have recently have gained enough recording equipment to start doing music projects at home rather than waiting around for the studio at my university to open up for my two other bands. This means I can finally put in the time to work on my solo music project Banditlight that I've reluctantly had to put off for so long. I categorize it on Facebook as "indie lo-fi scarf rock" because I basically don't know what to call it. After searching enough genres those seemed to fit. My influences are bands like Margot and the Nuclear So & So's, Sufjan Stevens, Andrew Bird, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, Aqualung, Great Lake Swimmers, Tigers That Talked, and Sleeping At Last, which may be apparent when you listen (if you know 'em). As of right now, only one song is up, plus a cover, but a few more will be up as the week goes.
You're much, much cooler than Andrew Bird and SSLYBY. So cool that I'm going to ask you if I can actually download it and use it somewhere in the next podcast. :V

Wheeeee! Also, cool stuff Shin and Kei. It's over an hour o_o I'm glad you didn't ask me to edit it to fit in the podcast, hoho. Concerning the podcast troubles: BlameOn.

Alright so I started reading this article and I thought the topic was interesting enough.
[Many of us leave behind more than just the familiar things in our wills] Suppose you blogged or tweeted about this article, or dashed off a Facebook status update, or uploaded a few snapshots from your iPhone to Flickr, and then logged off this mortal coil. Itâ??s now taken for granted that the things we do online are reflections of who we are or announcements of who we wish to be. So what happens to this version of you that youâ??ve built with bits? Who will have access to which parts of it, and for how long? ~Rob Walker, NYTimes.com
So I was just wondering how aware you are of your internet activities and if you have ever thought about the above. Does your behaviour online reflect the person you are or who you want to be (remembered as)? Personally, I've become a lot more aware of what I do online in the past years. I try to avoid any public ridiculous stuff, I only keep a few social networking profiles and then I don't use my full name for those. I even deleted some extremely horrible OB posts (especially stuff I posted in the last few years that I just didn't think was Boo-ish enough). Funnily, I actually did many of this with the idea of "what if this is what I'm to be remembered by?" because I tend to think of death a lot in a non-depressive, non-emo-ish way. More in this way of "ah well, that's life." "NO NOTRLY, ITS DEATH" Also I'm very aware in the way that I constantly think things like "how would my children react on that?" for example. The first thought that jumps to mind when I see Madonna videos is "WHAT WILL THEIR CHILDREN THINK?!" Things you could i.e. discuss:

Did you ever think of your internet activities as something you'd leave behind?
Do you think your Internet-you is a good resemblance of what you'd like others to see / of what you'd like to leave behind?
How aware of your internet activities are you?
Should there be some kind of official legal measure be taken around internet histories of deceased people?
And more stuff!

Just want to put you boys and girls in the right state of mind for the upcoming show. It has a bit of a delay, but here's a taste of what's to come: SANGOME (or SanGoMoS) - STILL IN LOVE A Love Song. die" So, inspired by the thread about the world ending in May or in 2012... What do you want to do before then? And don't be politically correct now. The question is: What do you want to do before the end of the/your world? Personally, I want to go to Greenland because for some reason I became all fascinated of Greenland three years ago and I'm still mustering up the courage to actually go there. If the world would end a few years later I would want to see what my children would look/be like. If they're horrible I hope the end will come soon. Oh yeah, and I want to have made a music album of my own.

If Otakuboards.com was a country, it would be larger than Pitcairn Islands with its 52 daily visitors!

OR. You could buy a Russian bride off the internet.

I keep hearing "CaNzas" instead of Kansas. My girlfriend actually said "I'm sure they'll be fine without you. Now stop talking about it," on Wednesday. And of course she was right. You don't even need me. :( BUT ON TO THE MATTERS AT HAND Episode 9 is coming up and we need new questions, segments, topics, songs, everything!

1) What is it? Futer 2) Why was it nifty? ... nvm. It actually wasn't and never will be. 1) What is it? Dragon Warrior 2) Why was it nifty? LEGEND, kupo. 1) What? Shy 2) Why? Well, duh. 1) What? Podcast segments 2) Why? Without them the podcast would be a monotonous bunch o' poo. 1) What? Shinmaru('s voice) 2) Why? Well, duh. 1) What is it? Sangome 2) Why was it nifty? Because even though she pretends to hate everyone except for Ace (and me in particular), she's still one of the kindest and most involved members of OtakuBoards, showing her avatar everywhere and pretty much everyone knows her. Besides, she's one of the funnest members to involve in funs. 1) What is it? Korey 2) Why was it nifty? Yee-ha, partner! Let's rally up some cows and make us some podcast burgers! Korey is the vocals and lead guitars to the OtakuBoards podcast, so pretty much THE VOICE OF OTAKUBOARDS. 1) What is it? Writing OtakuBoards with the Boards in bold. 2) Why was it nifty? No one does this anymore. Whoever does is OLD SCHOOL=COOL.
I just finished reading Fahrenheit 451 in school. The book was okay, I guess, but it seemed really predictable at most parts. I was kind of impressed that the author made a couple of his antagonist characters have really decent cases against books when the protagonists were so obviously for books. Although I will say that it seems sort of counter-productive to give antagonists really good ammo like that.
I know right. The story was not really incredibly impressive, though still interesting enough. Though I thought the scene-setting of the book was pretty cool, the way the world was focused completely on BIG and OBVIOUS and IN YOUR FACE and how F°451 described violence on TV like we often see it now (ie. Happy Tree Friends) while it seems completely surreal when you read it.

So I was just browsing NYTimes.com and I found this article: E-Mail Use Falls as Young Chat and Text - E-mail Gets an Instant Makeover For those who don't feel like reading, it basically says this: (Young) People e-mail less than before and are instead chatting, texting or leaving messages on facebook and such. Some in the article question the future existence of the human ability to communicating with the written word. The rest of the article is about how e-mail providers (like gmail) are now implementing chat features and such to their websites, making the e-mail "just a part" of gmail. Now what I thought was interesting was the quote in this thread's topic description: â??Weâ??re going down a road where weâ??re losing our skills to communicate with the written word,â? (Ms. Kallos said.) What are peoples thoughts on this? Some stuff you can consider: - Isn't it the job of the schools to teach people how to use the written word (and stimulate them in the usage)? - Many connect the same subject with the subject of "people becoming less social". Is this about right? - Is the written word something of the past? AND does this mean we'll be using short phrases next, then just pictures, and then go back to "OOGA BOOGA" where we started off? - Boards like this one are something in between-ish, right? Discuss stuff! I'm just going to take the second dash from up here and write down this situation thingy I noticed earlier: I was sitting in the bus and there were these two girls sitting next to each other. They both had their iPhone kind of thingies in their hands typing like mad. They hadn't said a word to each other since the iPhones came out, so a woman behind me muttered something about the youth becoming less social. HOWEVER, I figured they were probably at this very moment messaging with dozens of people at a time, able to reach billions of people by just a few taps on the touchscreen. Is that worth so much less than a conversation-because-we're-sitting-next-to-each-other-in-the-bus? Also, would they be communicating so much if they were only using e-mail?
-
Yeah, I know how to reach it, but I was just sayin'. I remember when we went to V...5 (?The first skinny OB with the sidebar) and the major argument was "less clicks > more clicks" when I proposed a dropdown menu. VELL.

I have to say the first picture already looks ace itself showing a great deal of feeling for detail, like shadows. However, while heading further down the post, stuff just keeps getting more detailed and realistic, with of course that amazing Assassin's Creed picture at the end. It's so detailed, just wow. Also, I envy you for having the discipline to spend so many hours on your work. I wanted to ask you though if you draw all of this by example, and if so, do you have any from-the-top-of-your-head material to show?
I originally wanted to use some text but it ended up just looking goofy.. I will use text on some future banners with more "sparse" layouts.
I know what you mean. Adding text is pretty much a whole art by itself. :P You'll not want to just paste text on there because the contrast will be too great. Try to toy around with layer overlay effects to see if that makes it look any less goofy.
-
Hm, unlike CaNz, I like the thick borders giving a cinematic effect to it. SarahPatricia was pretty spot on about the focus of the banner, but I have to say that for a first shot this is pretty ace. The picture you used for the banner is top quality, the lens effect works well and the overall feel of it is pretty much "I'm epicly awesome". I'd recommend putting the other shoulder more in view, which in effect will put the head in focus more. Also, some kind of text would be schweet. Quotes and names mostly work well enough for forum banners. :V EDIT Oh, you updated! The focus on the second one is better, though for the effect, I'd move the stock more to the left border. Especially because the picture abruptly stops on the left wing. The colours are easy on the eyes generally. The background just looks a bit calm compared to the used picture, but contrast is a good thing mostly. If I look at this stuff, I wish I had started out with youtube tuts and stuff. :( It's really cool material for first times.
-
... That's actually quite a plan. I should start digging into that. In the case of, I'll probably be bombing you with questions about stuff though. :^D OH. Then you can be a weekly live guest in the podcast too. 8D

Hmph, casually finding a job in Ireland proves completely impossible. :^( I'm going to have to use my European charms, I'm afraid. Maybe they need a part-time podcaster in a villa on Jersey.
soooo stoked.. im replaying oblivion at the moment to get even more psyched up for this. anyone have news on what graphics engine they are using? god i hope they dont use the same engine as fallout 3.
I don't hope so either. I thought I read somewhere they were going to make use of IDSoft's newest Engine, which is supposed to be AWESOME. But maybe the article read they were NOT going to be using it.
