Well, like others have noticed, the fact that the specific games used for this genre weren't mentioned, hurts the credibility of the results somewhat.
A recent study in Japan has suggested that extensive amounts of time spent playing video games can cause players to lose concentration, get angry easily, and have trouble interacting with others, according to a report in the Mainichi Daily News.
I find this amusing. If anything, games such as Tetris, or strategy rpgs should improve concentration and build a higher threshold for patience. Also, online games should improve communication skills somewhat. Especially if cooperation plays a large part in succeeding. Oh well......
Originally posted by GhostofSalvtore Yeah well you have to point out all of those were 1st generation games if yuo have seen the improvements from RAW to RAW2 you would see a great change because RAW had no gameplay options and the new RAW will have all new matches, but I do hope that THQ won't get our hopes up too high like they did with SD3.
Yeah, I'm very lenient with the Raw series. Anchor had the task of designing an new engine from the ground up, complete with detailed character models, animations and what have you. Thus, they had an excuse regarding slim options. SmackDown 3 on the other hand, used the same basic gameplay as it's PSX counterparts with little innovation. I know that THQ can deliver. Let's hope that they start with the fourth game in the SmackDown series. :)

Writing Day in GTA3-Funny if you don't cheat
Charles replied to GhostofSalvtore's topic in Creative Works
Well, this doesn't involve discussing the actual game, which this forum is for. If anything, this thread encourages members to make their own custom story, using the guidelines that you have provided, GhostofSalvtore. With that being said, I'm going to move this to the story section of the boards where it rightfully belongs. :) -
So, crowd fighting is gone now? I'm not surprised, lol. When talking to my friend, who is also a big wrestling fan, I always joke around that Yukes removes at least thirty percent of what they originally promise.
and the CAW for me was almost to in depth they looked a lil funny when I made myself in it
I love the depth involved because it is much more organized than SD2's. With it, I created perfect clones of RVD, Hogan, Nash, DDP, Goldust, Hurricane Helms, Scott Steiner and Hall. My favorite CAW was No Mercy's though. Although it wasn't as deep as SD3's, it was really easy to put out a quick, respectable version of my favorite wrestlers. The selling of moves in wrestling games really is lacking as of late; I'll agree with you there. RAW for the Xbox had some horrible timing. Often times, I would pin my opponent and they would get up before me. :worried: I would really like to see Shut your Mouth's style become more sim oriented, but Yukes seems to thick to change their ways. Wrestlemania was even worse than SD3. The number of possible front grapples was really thin and the control scheme was frustrating. Hopefully, SD4, Raw 2, and Wrestlemania X9 will iron out the issues plaguing them.

Hmmm, I've heard that the UK will get the game September thirteenth of this year, while it will be released in the US, November thirteenth. If the wait is too long, I suggest checking out NBA Street, if you already haven't.

I'm happy that there's another wrestling fan on the Sony board. :toothy: Wrestling games have been the bane of my existence lately, lol. WWF No Mercy was such a high point for the genre, with it's engaging gameplay and front end. Meanwhile, WWF SmackDown on the PSX was looking to be a promising series. When SmackDown 3 arrived on the PS2, I was extremely disappointed. Features such as interactive commentators were omitted, while new additions that actually made it (crowd fighting) were disappointing. Even the visuals showed a clear lack of effort, with the overall package looking eerily familiar to the PSX versions before it, complete with washed out colors. To give credit where credit is due, the animations were better and the game ran smoother (60fps), but we all know that Yukes could have and should have done better. What I've seen of SmackDown 4, has given me mixed feelings. The character models have double the poly count and the women finally resemble their counterparts. Also, like Wrestlemania X8 for the GameCube, the roster is fairly up to date (even with Austin being removed and HBK being included). Crowd fighting should be much improved as well. No longer will the surrounding fans in the front rows be a bunch of horrible, two dimensional, bit mapped sprites. I know that the models won't look stellar, but compared to SD3, they'll be gold, pure gold. As you mentioned, the core engine will remain modeled in the arcade style. Thus, the selling of moves is still off. Recent videos clearly show wrestlers jumping straight up again. This leads me to ask what the use of weapons are. Yukes has gone out of their way to hype up the new weapons moves. But if they don't hurt, is there really any point in doing them? Is there any point to knocking someone off the Titan Tron, only for them to jump right up, unscathed? My overall opinion, is that the game shows promise. Yukes should just take the time to tweak the gameply a bit. The CAW feature from SD3 was a high point of the game and will be even better in SD4. If THQ doesn't deliver with this one, I'll only be renting it though.

THIS TOPIC was similar, in that it describes the methods of modding and how they work. Plus, it explains certain drawbacks that accompany modding. With that being said, I don't necessarily see much reason to keep this thread open. If the topic that I pointed you to, doesn't help you (although it should), then pm me and I'll consider reopening this for a period of time until you can get what you're looking for. Keep in mind, that you'll have to have a fairly good reason, considering that the other thread went quite in depth. :)

I've decided to edit my original post. ^_^;;; Anyway, here is the link to that thread they were talking about. DragonBallZ Games Mark my words; if the previous quality of the DragonBall titles is any indication as to what is to come, then I'd forget about it and look forward to the higher quality titles being released on the GameCube.[

I'm incredibly afraid of heights. Yesterday I went to Wildwood and saw all kinds of incredible rollar coaster. One of them was nothing but one loop that the coaster would continuously lap. It wasn't the heights that scared me the most though. Rather it was the price of admission. Why pay like $75 for forty tickets when I can just stand upside-down and vomit for free?

I'm going to see the movie tomorrow, most likely. Spoiler The one thing I don't understand is how that medic that Jamie Lee Curtis killed wasn't Micheal Myers. I mean, I distinctly remember him unzipping the body bag, getting up slowly, and attempting to attack her. Plus, if I was a medic with a crushed voice box, I would make frantic motions and point to the mask. Obviously, H2O was meant to be the finale of the series.
Originally posted by James The whole Yoshi thing is really interesting. I definitely think that fruit has a lot to do with it. If you look at screenshots of the marketplace in Super Mario Sunshine, you can see different townsfolk selling various fruits in stalls. I suspect that the fruit plays a big role with Yoshi.
I suspect that this information (including the Yoshi egg) hints at a possible Yoshi breeding feature, similar to Sonic's Chaos. Perhaps different Yoshi's will have varying abilities that Mario will need to utiilize in his quest (like jc mentioned)? The possibility definitely sounds interesting. The fact alone that a picture of an egg was shown, makes that possibilty all the greater. On a side note, has anyone seen pictures of a Koopa Troopa? With Bowser possibly being gone, I suspect these little buggers won't make an appearance. :nervous:
Originally posted by Silent Warrior So 1P and 2P can't play together for path of a champion for tag team?
I'm almost certian that you cannot. Due to my resentment towards this game, I haven't managed to invest much time into exploring the modes. There is a Battle for the Belts mode though, in which you can win a multitude of different titles, save them to a memory card, and put on the line with your friends. Ever since AKI went under, THQ's wrestling games have ceased to progress in terms of gameplay. If anything, the wrestling genre has taken several steps backward. I don't believe that the blame should fall completely on Yukes. THQ, is really spreading development cycles of some of it's WWE franchises thin. Both Raw and SmackDown 3 had ample time in development, but with Wrestlemania falling in between SmackDown 3 and SmackDown 4, one could assume that it didn't receive the attention it deserved. Instead of spawning three seperate cash-in titles for the consoles within a year's time, THQ allow the WWE titles to rest in the hands of one developer and release one WWE game a year on all three consoles (similarly to other "sports" titles). Although SmackDown 4 looks promising, I'm sure that it will feature the same arcade driven gameplay, which could be postitive or negative depending on one's preference. Hopefully, the upstart NWA promotion will take off and a talented publisher will pick it up (putting it in the hands of a worthy developer), or Acclaim will greatly improve it's Legends of Wrestling franchise with innovative new features. Either way, THQ would once again have competition and push it's prodcut. Ironically, the videogame situation seems similar to the WWE's current condition. :toothy:
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel Well, I understand the whole FF7 debate. I don't feel it revolutionized anything. Sure it looked good, and the FMVs were nice...but really it didn't do anything new that made me think anything like this. FF6 was already as cinematic as a game could get on SNES, FF7 was just a natural evolution.
Hmm, well I would like to think that the materia system attributed greatly to the game's enjoyment. The customization involved was really brilliant and there were ample possibilities once one became acquainted with the system. I do agree with everything you're saying though. Moving on, Xenosaga is going to be awesome. I hear that it's going to feature the talents of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. With that being said, we shouldn't be disappointed from an audio standpoint. :whoops:
Originally posted by Hybrid I have a question, is this the same Shinobi series as the one that was started on Game Gear? If so, then this is one of my favorite gaming series. The first one was incredible, despite the graphics the gameplay and story line was great. I can't wait for it to come out, I want to see what they did with the full 3D element at their hands.
Well, it's based on the classic series, but the storyline is new. This adventure takes place in modern day Tokyo. As part of the major Japanese clan Oboro, two young brothers must fight to win the use of a traditional and ancient sword, filled with awesome, deadly powers. The only thing is whoever loses the fight dies. Your character, Hotsuma, wins the sword which, like a living organism, craves and feeds on blood. If it can't find blood through your actions, than it will take yours. It is said, that at the same time your character earns the right to wield the sword, strange events begin to occur, such as earthquakes. The transition to 3D should compliment the game well. Dashes (on both land and air) scream 2D. Anyway, I could swear that I remember a Shinobi on the Sega Saturn. Unfortunately, I was never able to play it.
Originally posted by Queen Asuka And CWB, I would post in the gaming forum, but I just never anything interesting in there to post about alot of the time. Maybe I just never look when a game I like is discussed or something...I dunno...but yeah...
Nothing interesting eh? There tends to be some fairly controversial issues and intense debating in those forums actually. You just have to look around sometimes. Look for my topic in the Xbox forum for an example, lol. I am glad that you and Anna understood my points though. After all, these stereotypes all begin somewhere and the numbers have a great deal to do with them. And Snake, I don't even know why you bothered to reply to that, heh. Brolly or whatever, merely glimpsed at the subject of this thread, without reading the posts, and made that comment for the purpose of starting trouble. ;)

I should have created a thread on this in the past, but I always say "Better late than never." Although I'm sure that this game was touched upon in Neil's topic, I feel that it deserves it's own thread. Supervised by the series' creator, Norlyoshi Ohba, the latest Shinobi is coming along quite impressively and managed to turn quite a few heads at E3. Although the two-dimensional, sprite-based visuals of the past have been done away with in favor of fully rendered polygonal grahpics, the title should remain somewhat true to it's roots. Hotsuma (the game's lead character) will be able to utilize the double-jump, shuriken throwing and the ability to run on walls. According to a preview that I read in Game Informer, an interesting twist to the gameplay has been implemented. Hotsuma's sword is supposedly a living organism that thrives on blood. This twist will most likely add a hectic atmosphere to the gameplay because this sword weakens quickly and is always in need of blood. Contrarily, yet obviously, the sword will gain strength as it's thirst for the red liquid is quenched. Due to this frantic style, stealth will most likely play a marginal (if that) portion in Shinobi. The artistic approach, which is said to be a cross between anime style and the look of western comic books. So, are there any old schoolers lingering around? The twitch-style gameplay and name value among hardcore gamers is sure to earn this title instant success. Hopefully information on the next two-dimensional Castlevania I've heard about will begin to surface too. It'll be old school heaven on the PS2.

I'm glad that this was brought up again. Upon starting this thread and getting into talk of the Homestation, one thing makes me laugh. Especially after reading that article. When Microsoft first entered the console war they claimed that they were doing so with the pure interest in gaming. Essentially they were creating a gaming machine for gamers. Xbox live would certainly cater to the gamers, but wouldn't the Homestation be breaching Microsoft's original promise? The entire premise of the Homestation is to combine the capabilities of a Microsoft Ultimate TV, Windows Media player, a Microsoft Xbox, and a Microsoft WebTV. If this digital media hub were released with the intention of replacing multiple devices, I feel that Microsoft would be contradicting themselves. Oh well. At any rate, as Semjaza Azazel pointed out, at least the road to online console gaming won't be so rocky in the next generation. :)
Originally posted by Kazuya Mishima Obviously the real winner in level designs is DOA3. The detail is pushed to its limits, giving many players a feeling that the environment is against them too, since it can aid your opponent, and you for that matter.
I agree that the backdrops in DOA3 are exquisite. On the other hand, I wish that there was a tad more interaction in some of them. Essentially, all one may do is knock opponents into objects with similar effects accordingly. Although I would not expect Power Stone style interaction, it would be nice to be able to have the ability to utilize the environments more. Also, some of the backdrops are rather unimaginative still...... Overall I would agree with you that DOA3 has the best arenas, though they are strikingly similar to Virtua Fighter 3's as far as aesthetics go.

Hmm, there must be a law. Certain games do require the presentation an ID before purchase. Conker's Bad Fur Day is a prime example.......

This argument has been done time and time again and it's worthlessness never ceases to amaze me. People that dismiss the GameCube as a children's system are, a good deal of the time, children--children whose parents purchased them another console. They don't have jobs, so they can't own the GameCube. Thus, they convince themselves that they have the better console by putting down the GameCube's software by labeling it as "kiddie." It's all very laughable. Think about it. It's typical of children to say "My toy is better than your toy." A mere glance at titles such as Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, Metriod Prime, Bloody Roar: Primal Fury and the upcoming Die Hard: Vendetta prove otherwise. Critics, and I use that term very loosely, of Nintendo who make these unintelligent claims can't be true gamers. If they were to actually examine games such as Mario, they would see beyond the sugary exterior. Kids these days, lol. They complain about a supposed lack of adult oriented titles, and they legally can't purchase the more mature titles anyway. :p
Originally posted by Semjaza Azazel The imposter seems to be made of water... And in that one shot he is holding something that looks like a sword.
Nah, it's a paintbrush. But, it's cool nonetheless. My opinion on this title is that it's never looked particularly noteworthy from a visual standpoint. When Mario 64 launched, there was less competition in regard to visuals. Mario Sunshine's graphics aren't necessarily bad, but they just fail to stand out as much as Mario 64 did, due to the condition of today's market. Other touches, such as a reflective surface that Mario does battle on, captures the surrounding environment in such a brilliant manner that is must be seen to believe. Most importantly the character design is always . The texture work is certainly appealing though. Their colorfulness reminds me of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. The visual flair of this title is subtle. Mario Sunshine won't have insane polygon counts, but the sheer size of the environments, smooth animation and pretty scenery give Mario's latest outing an artistic edge that is quite appealing. I just can't forget the lovable character design either. On that note, I'm not the least bit concerned about the visuals. The ingenious level design and gameplay mechanics will make this title. Miyamoto has definitely been focusing on the gameplay mechanics surrounding the water pack, and the device will most certainly add layers of depth. Furthermore, this new villain is a welcome addition. Fighting Bowser repeatedly was becoming old.

Whata u think?
You made out well. This is an excellent time to purchase a GameCube. Quality launch titles are quite easy to find in the used bin. Just the other day I came across a couple copies of Luigi's Mansion for only $24.99 respectively. I myself finally found an S-Video cable for the GameCube only a month ago. Having S-Video for Playstation 2, Dreamcast and Xbox really made it hard to look at blurry GameCube titles. After searching the major gaming stores and coming up empty handed, I finally stumbled across a cable at a music store, lol. Go figure. Eventually you should invest in one, should your televison support it. The picture looks infintely better.
Originally posted by Kazuya Mishima I dont' really like the Virtua Fighter series, particularly not VF4, it seems to be over-realistic, and I haven't always been a fan of grainy graphics. But in this sense Snake, I can tell why you would prefer VF4.
That's an example of nitpicking. ;) Virtua Fighter 4's grahpics, while not arcade perfect, still exhibit some of the best modeling, texturing and and cloth effects on the Playstation 2 platform. I notice that a lot of people complain over jaggies and such, but it only takes one gander at the water effects or lighting effects to forgive such a miniscule flaw. If there's anything to dislike about Virtua Fighter, it's the gameplay. Don't get me wrong; the gameplay is brilliant and beyond any fighter in terms of depth. But, from what I've seen, it's really a love it or hate it style. Which of course, is why Tekken as such a following. I'm a fan of both titles, so I'm happy with either. This Sonic talk is most likely nonsense. As previously stated, Nintendo is currently porting it's classic Sonic titles and the first Sonic Adventure to the GameCube. The possibility of a Sonic title appearing on the Playstation 2 appears to be slim, from my perspective. When I see Neil online again, I will ask him if he confused the lists. When it comes to Red Faction 2's Geo-Mod technology, we will definitely see an improvement, as this feature will be infinitely expanded upon. Chunks of columns can be blasted off and walls, shelves, and office supplies can be destroyed. Aside from visual appeal, such destruction can effect gameplay. Enemies for instance, might obliterate walls in order to gain access to the player.
