Okay, now imagine all of your misgivings with the game, but with no bonus DVD and you'll know how I feel. I agree with Raiden being a somewhat poor character choice. Five minutes into playing as him, I was thinking, "Alright, this is pretty cool. They have another character that you can play as for a minute." Yeah and then I tried to save the game and Rose started yappin' about their personal problems. Two hours later, I was still playing as Raiden and Rose was doing even more yappin.' I really don't like how a lot of things seem just like the PSX predecessor either. I know that they back it up in the storyline, but a lot of times I was like, "Didn't I do this very same thing a few years ago?" The bosses were indeed lame too. Fortune was actually my favorite though, as she showed the most complexity. I did miss character complexity in this one. When the bosses died in the last one, you learned things about them that made them a person. Remember Sniper Wolf's death? That was film calibur. Vamp would have been cool, but alas, he just falls in some water. I won't spoil anything for anyone, but the plot gets pretty lame towards the end. Overall, it was a great game though. The graphics are great with amazing attention to detail. You can just sit there and shoot stuff to great amusement. Also, there are a plethora of secrets to uncover. Did you know that by hitting R2/L2 during Codec transmissions you can hear Snake's/Raiden's thoughts? Or that you can give Plisken a shaver? Yep, pretty deep. I was just expecting more overall though...

I don't have a GameCube yet, but when I get one, I'd like to see a new "Rise of the Robots." Everyone likes Rise of the Robots. Okay, now seriously, I would like to see a new Street Fighter or Mario rpg with Square at the helm.

Sorry if this is a bit detailed. I just like a good backstory. The junkies of Needle Park sit in the shade of wild growth trees and shoot their poison into track marked arms, the homeless litter the streets like human refuse, trying to find sanctuary among the giants of glass and steel surrounding them. Strange how the part of the city that essentially runs an area where 4% of the total US population resides becomes such a stinking hole of filth and decay as soon as the sun goes down when during the day trillions of dollars flow through over phone lines and fiber optic cables, the glass giants of business serving as hubs where the rich get richer in climate controlled, leather seated, modern deco decorated splendor. Among these uncaring, unfeeling giants that tower over the trash, both human and industrial, there stands a building that towers above all the rest; a building that at the top resides a man who has seen civilization grind on. A virtual god who watches the city below and finds what is happening to it no different then Rome? or Carthage? or Constantinople? he even likens it to the great walled city of Babylon. Take your pick of civilizations, your Samarian, your united Jewish Tribe? your Roman or Byzantine empire. He has seen them all rise? and has seen them fall. This? this was no different. For in the decay, among the ashes of the immolated husk of building left to rot after fires? stood rebirth. Stone sat in a black leather chair that seemed to blend into the background that shadowed him, the darkness surrounding him seemed to cling like the silken caress of a lover to his ever mysterious presence. A soft light slowly illuminated, small features of the mysterious man, revealing him to be dressed in one of the finest suits ever crafted. Staring at the figures before him, his fingers steepled as if in deep contemplation over some matter, and his lips curled into a definitive smile. Inhaling the wind that blew into his 50th floor window, the scent of clean air just high above the stench of pollution below served to refresh his senses. Dabbing his forehead gently, with a violet handkerchief, he told his audience, "You all know why you are here today." Slowly a perfectly manicured hand, the tail tips of the tattoos that mark his palm and back of his hand highlighted in the soft light that illuminated his office, reached out and removed the finest cigars you could get from Cuba and he slowly went about cutting off the tip and lighting it with the rather simple silver Zippo he carried as a lighter with him at all times. If ever asked as to why he carries just the simple silver Zippo instead of something a bit more in tune with his social stature he would respond with the rather simple answer: It never failed to light. It did not once fail in the hands of the arsonist who thought him the devil and was now entombed in place of a believed dead arson investigator and it had yet to fail him now. Slowly he inhaled the smooth and thick smoke of the hand rolled tobacco before turning the humidor his cigars were stored in toward the guests in his office and waited for them to take one each before exhaling the fine tobacco smoke and finally spoke. "The system owns of all of you," he said slowly and deliberately, "And I hold the solutions to your desires. All of you may open your designated envelopes." Their hearts beating a mile a minute, adrenaline clogging their arteries, the opprotunists trembling outstretched hads seized their respective manilla folder. Taking a deep breath, some scoffed at the prospect of the whole endevour. Wrongfully convicted, or imprisoned quickly, all served as discarded dolls of fate. Upon cutting the top of their evelopes off, with small knives, so graciously provided for them by their benefactor, their eyes widened further. Stone?s lips curled upwards into a sinister grin before speaking the next part aloud to himself, a grin that would chill the bones of the devil himself , "Umbrella Corporation." His form imposing in the dark suit he wore, Stone remained seated in the rather large and most comfortable Aero chair, like an urban God. "Society has punished all of you, but fate has given you another chance," he declared boldy. Stone, the feline stared at his mice playfully, as they nodded. "Now, listen carefully," he continued, "because when you say, 'I know,' you cease to 'know more.' As your designated packages state, each of you is charged with infiltrating the Umbrella Corporation's headquarters in Europe. Once successful in this mission, you will then proceed to obtain samples of both T Virus and G Virus infected genes. None of you are guaranteed survival. Some of you, if not all of you, will perish. Your flesh may serve as a fine delicacy to an undead phantom. You may leave now if you wish, disregarding this opportunity. Go ahead an return to your the grey confines of your concrete containment facilities if your courage fails you." Once again, he smiled a rather diabolical smile as his thoughts drifted to the fact that if he gathered a top dollar for these peoples' organs on the black market the total amount would not even begin to scratch what he had to pay for this suit; to have the Gucci company specially design and manufacture the suit he was currently wearing. "Chosen ones, I say to you save yourselves so that we may save others," Stone passionately coaxed. "For if you bring the samples, the urban decay that has sealed your miserables fates will vanish. I will use the Umbrella Corporation's own technology to clense the world. Once injected into the public, this virus will clense the world of the filth that litters the streets." Somewhere off in the distance a lone church bell tolled. It tolled for the death of a young man caught in one of the random drive by shootings that take place nearly everyday in the city of Los Angeles. But Stone found the sound fitting of the moment all the same? the moment when a little game of tit for tat turned into something more. The moment when the death certificate for Umbrella and his chosen "toys" was signed by the being who would be their executioner. A being who sat in his chair in an office bigger then any in the city of angels atop the only building that dwarfed the others like it in the city. A being who smiled a smile so slick that not a single soul could trust it? A being who went by one name? Stone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sign up sheet, by Neil: Name: Kyle Steinheiser. I think that the game was pretty shallow, but it did inspire a lot of the free roaming battle that you see in recent fighters.
Originally posted by SephirothNIN I agree w/ Altron, why would you want Yuna to be the same strength as Auron? If everyone has the same strength and moves, the only difference between people would be their limit breaks, same problem FF8 seemed to have, where everyone can have anything. At least in FFx it takes time to do that, everyone has their own little area they begin on in the Sphere Grid (cept Rikku), but that just makes learning things less important. Wow I learned Ultima, too bad everyone else already knows it. Anyway I'd still have to go w/ EXP w/ mp/ap/whatever for spell-learning, was always nice to beat a boss and get a big chunk of exp =P.
Well, you don't have to make Yuna as strong as Auron. I was just using it to illustrate the flexibility of the sphere grid. Regarding unique character ablities, the average gamer won't fill it up. Thus, everyone won't have the same abilities. It really takes some work to fill it. You'll need to battle often and against strong monsters. Most likely you'll have to earn all of the legendary weapons and hidden aeons and capture monsters so that you can fight the stronger hidden enemies just to fill it in an acceptable period of time. Anyway, Final Fantasy VII used EXP and all of my characters were very similar, if not the same. The only thing that made them unique was materia. If I junctioned the same materia to them, they'd be identical. In the end, the chances of everyone learning Ultima aren't great. Even if they do know it, Auron(for example) wouldn't be able to cast it as effectively as the person who's supposed to cast it. Yuna's Holy can take away well over 9999 damage. The most Lulu will get out of it is 9999. Furthermore it takes only 1 MP to cast it as Yuna, whereas it takes 85 to cast it as Lulu. Characters use abilites to their own abilities. Also, rather than having the computer power up your guys for you, you are free to do it. If that's not more unique than I don't know what is. And congratulations to Altron for actually filling it, but even if it went by EXP, he'd have to reach level 99 sometime...

I'm sorry to say this, but your request probably won't go through. That instant message has nothing to do with breaking otakuboard forum rules. It's more of a personal problem...

Maron never becomes an instrumental character in the series and she isn't a fighter.
-
Yeah, I want to get it too. According to most reviews, the only problems it has is quirky camera angles and lackluster level designs. Like, I heard that there's a lot of instances where you'll fall off of skyscrapers to you ultimate demise, mwhahaha. Ah well, it'll still be fun anyway.
Originally posted by Solid Snake I am astounded as to the way you bring us very important news in a lot of your posts, and I thank you. I can now see why they wanted to make a different story, but does this mean that there will be a game exactly like it? If they were planing to make a movie about a future resident evil game, then I think they should have called it Resident Evil, and then added a sort of subtitle to it for fans of the game to know that it is not about the first one, which throws a lot of audiences off. Be sure to keep us posted about the next Resident Evil, I would like to hear more about it. :blah:
I don't really forsee a game like the movie being released anytime soon if ever. Capcom's already lined up remakes of all the Resident Evil games and then Resident Evil 4. If they did make the game it would come out way later than the film. I personally think that it would be a bad idea. They've already used Resident Evil 3 to go into the past and even the cancelled Resident Evil Zero that's supposed to be coming to GameCube. They shouldn't make the series too confusing by jumping around a lot. There are a lot of cool things about the movie that is coming out this month though. I've seen pictures of the lickers(which are CG) and they look fantastic. We'll also be seeing the crows come back with an assortment of other familiar villans. Despite the inital worries over the whole super computer thing, I think that we could be looking at a rare, quality videogame to movie translation. I'll definitely post my opinion on the movie here, after I see it. I hope everyone else does too!(although Kuja and Herman have already seen it.) ;)
Originally posted by Solid Snake I would call this rather unfortunate news, which will bring more harm than good. It could be nice in the fact that they have changed the style to more "Marioish," and that we now have character options to choose from one person to another. However, this move just may be their final. With the new style of game play, it will most likely turn off old fans of the series, which will be a huge crash in the selling. But this isn't the worst part. I find it discouraging that Eidos and Core have even thought about making four sequals to a game that has yet to be released. They must expect, supposedly, that everything will run smoothly with each and every game. We should know that this is not always the case, and that if, let's say, the first one fails, then it will spawn the fate of the rest of the games, ending their project plans. I do hope that they come to their senses, and wait to see how the first game goes before even thinking about making a next one. :blah:
Well, I have to agree with you on a lot of things here. It seems to me like Eidos is "counting its chickens before they're hatched." My biggest concern with the series is that the first new installment will restore Tomb Raider to prominence and the following games will be nothing more than cash-ins(subtle upgrades). Guaranteeing a new series for a character that the public hasn't even seen is also quite ambitious. Eidos really has a tendency to run its franchises into the ground. I just hope that they've learned from their mistakes. Anyway, the character switching is supposed to be done like the switching in the Oddworld game for the X box. If it is done right, I suppose it could really add a lot of complexity to the game.

It's only rumored right now, so I'm not exactly sure what system it would be on. I just hope that it doesn't come out to the arcades first. Anyway, I predict that it'll definitely come out for PS2. I'm not sure how GameCube's controller would handle it and X box's controller might work. The only way it would is if it was set up like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the DreamCast....

I have some more good news regarding this title. It seems as if the series will ditch it's frustrating gameplay and switch over to something more Zelda and Marioish. There's also going to be a second playable character named Curtis Trent. Supposedly, you can switch between the two. This guy's even going to have his own spin-off series too.. The biggest shocker of all is that this Tomb Raider game is the first of five in the new story. Sounds like Eidos and Core are about to repeat their mistakes all over again. Sure, the first one might be great, but if they simply update the same gave over and over like before, I'll only be playing to purposely make Lara jump off of a cliff.

You can get friend spheres though, and change places on the grid.;) Plus with HP break, you can exceed 9999 HP for the first time in the series. Likewise for MP with MP Break.

I've just read more swell news regarding the game. It's rumored that Metroid Prime will be compatible with the upcoming Game Boy Advance game, Metroid IV, adn will give Samus the powers she has in the handheld game(like the ability to walk on walls and ceilings). Heck, sounds pretty cool to me.
-
Yeah, but Ryu has pure technical prowess. Anyway, you'll find that even Goku is limited when he's relying on a health bar. I'm really just excited that we'll see the first quality fighter with DBZ characters in quite a while.
-
There's a rumor going around that Capcom is at work on their newest fighting game, Street Fighter vs. Dragon Ball. Yep, it's totally legit; I read it in EGM. Oh man, it looks like we'll finally see who would win a battle between Goku and Ryu. Who shoots the more powerful fireball? At last we'll know..
-
I've just read some interesting news on this one. It turns out that the Resident Evil movie serves as a prequel to the series. The director didn't want to use the established characters because any fan of the series would have known if they lived or not. Anyway, the really interesting news is that work on the film's sequel, entitled Resident Evil: Nemesis, is already in the works.
-
Well, at least they don't have the dreaded mine cart level, that I mentioned before. If they did have it, I'd have to personally destroy every copy of the game.;)

I don't necessarily think that you can buy everything with money. It really depends on who you are and what you do with it. Money can buy happiness. Say you're a materialistic freak who gets off on buying crap that you don't need, like a $500 shirt. My bet is that you'd be happy with that shirt. Anyway, money can buy almost everything in a certain sense..including life. If I need a new organ, or hospital treatment, I'd best have some dough. It can buy love too. I bet that if a millionare paid for a kid's operation and saved 'em, the child's parent(s) would love him/her for it. And if you're going to say that money can't buy love as in a marriage partner...you're wrong. There aren't many broke people out there with partners who support them, unless it's a crisis situation and the relationship has history behind it. Although, money isn't the foundation of a relationship, it certainly matters. No one wants a scrub.... I have spoken... *Gong*

I personally prefer the sphere grid. I don't really think it limits possibilities at all. If anything it expands them. If I wanted to, I could make Auron my party's healer. It would take hella battles to do it, but it's possible. The only thing is, you can tell who should do what. I could try to make Yuna a warrior, and put her strength up past Auron's or Tidus's, but she'd probably still take away a lot less damage(because of her weapon). Anyway, what I'm getting at is that I like the interaction of the grid. If you watch the quick territorial, it's easy. Everybody and his dog has played an rpg with experience points, but the grid is truly unique. That's what makes Final Fantasy so special; there's always something new and it's done well. That grid is balanced so well, you'd think Square's been doing them for the entire series. Side note: Finally beat the game, and it's my new favorite in the series, unsurping part seven. Woooo!

I always new that my GameBoy Advance was a powerful little 2D monster. I remember when I first played Rayman Advance. I wasn't that impressed with a handheld in ages. Next, I saw pictures of Street Fighter Alpha 3. Lately I'm wondering what the GameBoy advance can't do. Today I'm cruising around gamespot when I see the title, "Guilty Gear X" on the main page. I figure, it's for the GameCube or Xbox. Heck no, it's for the GameBoy Advance. I figure that this news is quite old, but I'm surprised anyway. They can't possibly replicate that game perfectly, but I'm willing to bet that it's going to "rawk" just like the music, but in a good way. Sheesh, if they can pull off a great two-dimensional fighter on the PSX, what the heck are we gonna see when this game is released?
-
Hehe, this new is really intriguing considering that I expressed my doubts about the game not too long ago. Wow, does this information bury a lot of them. I'm really looking forward to the explaration aspects of the game. In my book, a first person shooter that focuses on nothing but blasting away the baddies just doesn't cut it anymore. I'm sad to admit it, but Halo left me hanging a little. Sure the enemies were very intelligent and fun to fight, but after offing them with limited puzzles for a few hours, I was bored. Anyway, there is only one thing that I'm curious about. Conspicuous by its absence, was any mention of multiplayer information. I guess if it's not in there, Nintendo's just focusing on building great designs (both world and enemy) and implementing a killer storyline.
Originally posted by Sephiroth Meh, messa got bored.... meh, man I'm weird....
Sheesh, you can say that again. Great stuff, but I think you missed those awesome audience questions where they rub Steve's head and say lame insults! Man, a Jar Jar Binks impression combined with Springer and Final Fantasy; is nothing sacred?!!! :drunk:
