Close but not close enough... Ok, so, Gavin's turn.
Interesting, most interesting. I would say that YOU are the loser however for missing a one-time opportunity to see one of my images posted here. At any rate, Gavin's was half-way decent, so I'll let this slide.
Yeah, as far as rugby goes, I'm American and I choose American sports over anything else. Plus, it's far more violent than football so you can keep it to yourself. Chess is thinking ahead strategy. Football is thinking at the moment strategy. There is a difference. You can't plan ahead unless you have someone with binoculars checking out the other team's playbook for you.
That isn't true at all. A lot of preparation precedes every game in the NFL. You don't need the other team's playbook to watch video tapes of their games, examine their strengths and weaknesses and anticipate their style. During the actual game there is a lot of forward thinking involving field position, possession time of the ball, and the clock. There's a lot of strategy involved in preparing for and controlling a football game that you seem unaware of.

I just like scratching, sports, and sex. If you find that complicated then perhaps you shouldn't become a psychiatrist any time soon. By the way, women date obnoxious jerks until they mature and ultimately marry the successful intellectual (who ends up being the obnoxious jerk's boss).

I would have given you all of my heart but there's someone who's torn it apart and she's taking almost all that I've got but if you want, I'll try to love again baby I'll try to love again but I know The first cut is the deepest, baby I know The first cut is the deepest 'cause when it comes to being lucky she's cursed when it comes to lovin' me she's worst but when it comes to being loved she's first that's how I know The first cut is the deepest, baby I know The first cut is the deepest I still want you by my side just to help me dry the tears that I've cried cause I'm sure gonna give you a try and if you want, I'll try to love again but baby, I'll try to love again, but I know The first cut is the deepest, baby I know The first cut is the deepest 'Cause when it comes to being lucky she's cursed when it comes to lovin' me she's worst but when it comes to being loved she's first that's how I know The first cut is the deepest, baby I know The first cut is the deepest Sorry, I couldn't resist. There's no tough choice here. Just respect yourself, move on and stop sleeping with him. I know it's easy for me to sit here and say this because I'm not the one dealing with the feelings, but it's what you have to do here. Just be thankful that you've only invested eleven months and not several years into this relationship. Think of how much worse it would have been if you had gotten married and then he discovered that he truly didn't love you. Or imagine if there were children involved. You're lucky.
If people liked to watch stratagy than Chess would be a far more televeised event than it is.
Let's not be pretentious here. If you know anything about football you know that a great deal of preparation and strategy are involved. If you ever come into contact with fans, even casual ones, then you're likely to hear them discussing the strategy their teams employed. However, you also must realize the obvious: football is much more theatrical and spectator-friendly than Chess. Don't get me wrong, Chess can be intense, and mentally grueling. But that doesn't necessarily come across well to a bunch of tired men and women who are relaxing after a week's worth of hard work with alcoholic beverages in hand. Although football is more easily stimulating than Chess and some people do watch it just for the superficial violence and close-ups of cheerleaders, it's not wise to completely generalize. Remember, people are more likely to gain a deep comprehension of what they immediately like than they would when approaching other subjects.
The Steelers won the Super Bowl.
Come on, tell me the truth. You work for ESPN, don't you? Only an expert sports analyist could provide such articulate, insightful post-game analysis.
Being British I am obliged to prefer Rugby to American Football. This is because Rugby is a real sport.
Being American, and therefore ethnocentric by nature, my arrogance immediately allows me to dismiss your opinion and laugh at your Rugby despite the fact that I have never seen a game in my life. Rugby, ha!
first of all the posing with the trohphy was was something they have to do before the super bowls. this is just the first year they actually release the photos to public before the game is over. as for the steelers being a bandwagon team, i think you are just being a sorry loser. dont be a sore loser and just admit your team lost. all this post game trash talking i keep getting is ridiculous!!! people saying the game was fixed? what the hell is their problem! the seahawks were the ones dropping passes and their quarter back got sacked 3 times!!! i also agree that it was a great way for the bus to end his career!
You know, it's all right. This isn't a fifth-grade school yard and no one is complaining about anything. Having said that, it's natural for people to ride a team's success. You will always have "bandwagon" fans. Personally, I'm not a Steelers fan but I do acknowledge that they are traditionally one of the tougher football teams in the NFL, much like the Giants. On top of that, their players possess amazing athleticism (especially on the defensive side of the ball), and their quarterback is just disgustingly good considering his age and experience. If you take into consideration that the Steelers were a sixth seed team in the playoffs and the agreement among fans that this was the Colts' year, then you can realize that the Steelers became an underdog team that was easy to like. You also have the inspiring side-story with Bettis attached to them. So, it's even more natural for people to root for them. Also, I know that this could potentially come as a shock to you, Sayuri-sama, but many football fans aren't very mature. People get a little carried away (can you imagine) and make excuses about their team losing (as if it matters). You shouldn't pay it much mind unless you're receiving a check from the Steelers. One thing's for sure though--with "The Bus" retiring, it's kind of nice that "The Smiley" is there to pick up the pieces.
yay! im glad so many people have replied ! honestly i didnt expect such a turn out! only two days to superbowl and im totally physched!!!! (or however you spell it) personally i dont like the seahawks! STEELERS ALL THE WAY!! if you look at all season the seahawks have had an easy schedule to p[lay. they played poor opponents that anyone could beat. also if you watch the reruns of the panthers-seahawks game you can see carolina practically gave them the game. they missed easy blocks and left hole in the defensice line. seattle isnt too tough an opponent. to tell you the truth they are kind of whimpy and soft.:p  w00t! partay!!!

On one hand, I adore the high expectations placed upon members here. I love actually being able to read well-contructed posts, that show a lot of forethought. It's rewarding to read clearly expressed ideas as opposed to mindless drivel. However, in many ways a lot of people here are elitest. It's not a terrible problem and this site has become much more relaxed than it used to be (see my image posts). So, it's not in how the site functions or how the rules are set up that's elitest. I can honestly say that OtakuBoards is really structured to be a site that accomodates everyone and treats everyone equally. However, I see a lot of people trying too hard sometimes to sound intelligent and it comes off as silly and pretentious. They use words and phrases that they would never use in real conversation and their posts sound way too formal (which is why I hated Gavin's "interesting, most interesting" before I knew it was a running joke). I also see people immediately jumping upon new members about their post quality even if it is obviously coherent but slighly flawed (say, lacking capitalization). So yeah, some members appear elitest when they consciously try to sound impressive. It just comes off as a bit much sometimes. Especially when you have kids and teens talking here about profound, incredibly complex world issues as if they are experts and cannot possibly be mistaken. If anyone says they haven't seen that happen here, I'll punch them in the face. But, then again, this is the Internet and that problem (obnoxious kids) is probably common across all web forums. In the end though, I think a lot of people mistake "high post quality" for posts written with flawless grammar, diction and syntax. That's only part of "high post quality" in my opinion because--your post can be written as structurally sound as they come, but if the ideas are ridiculous or uninteresting, then guess what pal, your post sucks anyway. By the way, I am an elitest, so this is going to be as good of a response as you're going to get. [/thread]
yayayyayaya!! im so happy there sre so many people out there rooting for pittsburg!!! i just keep getting al this trash talk in my high school about the steelers and all!! so happy to have fellow fanatics!! as for ziggy stardust, if you dont like football then dont reply to a string about it. yayay!!! and dude whos a st.louis fan i like them too they are cool! is all good! i tooo like the rams!!!!! GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!:catgirl:
Anyway, I think the thing to remember here is that rooting for a team is only part of the fun when it comes to the Super Bowl. Just watching the game with friends, ordering a plethora of junk food (go wings!), and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol are the main attractions. Laughing at the commercials is entertaining in its own right too. And yes, I just said all this so that I could post the Ritalin picture without spamming.

The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty of 2005 (Nominations Thread)
Charles replied to Shy's topic in General Discussion
Charles : Nifty - Definition provided by The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. I don't believe I've actually had a coversation with Charles, but I think he's pretty damn nifty-- One of the funniest members that's come to my attention the three years I've been here, certainly. I really enjoy this guy. The niftyness of Charles cannot be placed into words of the English language, and unfortunately, that's the only language I know. OmfG did u no he was once an admin 2?! No, I bet you didn't. N00bies >.>
 -
The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty of 2005 (Nominations Thread)
Charles replied to Shy's topic in General Discussion
The Foundation of OB- Everyone knows who I?m talking about and if they don?t, then I guess that my communication skills need some perfecting as well. But to elaborate on my nomination, I am talking about the people who help to make OB a better community, I am talking about the people who sit down and sift through the complaints, the requests, and every other thing that we can do or say. Ultimately I am talking about the staff- Raiyuu, Stuart, Dagger, Shy, Ozymandius Jones, James, and anyone else I might?ve missed. I thank you and here is your nomination.
See, that's a generalization and I will help to save your commuincation skills. I don't mean to derail this thread but an important clarification should be made here. The foundation of Otakuboards isn't Stuart, or Raiyuu or Ozymandius Jones. That's way too specific. How many people here remember Justin, Transtic Nerve, Babygirl, Warlock, Sephiroth, Final Flash, Zeh, Weh, etc? I'm sure that a few of you do, but most of you don't. I sure don't see a lot of nominations for those people here. People like Stuart, Raiyuu, and Ozymandius Jones essentially fit into the same category. Even I, who was the Site Administrator at one point am not really a foundation of the place. I moved on and OtakuBoards is still going. If this place is still around in a couple of years most of the current staff will probably be forgotten and new ones will be on the receiving end of this praise. Foundation indicates something more permanent. You should have just named this portion of your post OtakuBoards Staff and you could have accomplished your gushing that way. Don't get me wrong, the staff do deserve thanks. But, again, to individually call them the foundation of the site is utterly ridiculous. Again, I don't mean to derail the thread, but I'd like to address the common fault associated with (I know this sounds ridiculous) idol worshipping the staff. Let me put this into perspective--the staff do help to make OtakuBoards a better community, but so do a lot of people. Each person is capable of contributing in their own way. In fact, the members are the real foundation of the community and the staff are only an extention of them. While different names will always appear in these things for whatever reason, general terms such as "the membership" will always be important. I can understand calling Adam, or James a foundation of the site, or even Shy due to his history and efforts associated with it, but really, let's at least make a little sense when naming names. So yeah, now I'll nominate Revelation as nifty since HER (sorry) error gave me the opportunity to show just how nifty I am. ***EDITED AS TO NOT GENDERLY CONFUSE AS IF IT MATTERS IN THE CONTEXT OF MY POINT*** -
Ew... I love sports but I HATE football... I hate it, I cannot stand it. It's an absolutely atrocious sport. I actually prefer doing homework than watching a football game. [/color']
Wow, it's a good thing you chose to reply to a thread geared towards football fans then. Anyway, I love football. I'm an Eagles fan but because they had a rotten season the other Pennslyvania team will have to do for the Super Bowl. Either way it should be a fantastic game though. The Steelers are extremely physical and have an amazing defense while the Seahawks are more about finesse. It'll be interesting to see how the Steelers defense handles Alexander.
ZOMG YES! *turns private messaging off altogether* Problem solved! :toothy: Seriously though, in previous versions of Virtual Bulletin it used to do exactly as Baron described; automatic tracking with no pop-ups. And I always found that to be great, so I wouldn't mind going back to that at all. Problem is, I can't find anything related to message tracking in the admin options. There are some options for what's allowed about PMs themselves, but not a one for the tracking of PMs. So at this point, nothing can be done about the pop-ups.
You'll probably have to talk to jblessing or James when either of them have enough time. People commonly complain about this nuissance and I know that a hack was released on vbulletin.org a some point that allows you to disable the pop-up.
See Charles, how hard was that to type up? :p But yeah, this is why I like feedback, because it lets me work from there and improve. I will look into that for Mitsurugi's interview, although, I'm still wondering how much of a personality he has. Jiggywigg's not going to answer anything I send, so anyone else?
But, remember a picture is worth a thousand words. ;)
Great idea though, although Samus' behaviour was... erratic.
I think that's my main problem with this other than the total lack of narrative. The characters are not true to their identities at all. Instead of Diddy or Kirby, you could just as well throw in names like Theodore or William. When you're working with previously established characters with distinct personalities, it is important to capture them authentically.
No offence taken Charles, when I read that though I honestly had to laugh as a lot of people genuinely won't admit how annoyed they are by those two little words, as interesting is repeated. It seems however given the length of time I've been used the phrase that people have just become accustomed to it, and as I've even observed in one or two threads, willing to use it themselves.
Haha I'm glad you're not angry or anything. I really thought about coming back in here and deleting it because I knew it made me sound like a jerk. I don't actually mind it to a point where it disturbs me or anything but it's one of those things that you see dozens of times and finally have to comment on it.
The funny thing, Charles, is the fact that images like that contributed to both Brazil's and Mitch's bans...just stating a fact.
No, it isn't images like that that contributed to their banning. I've been posting images on this site for years. When I was a normal moderator for the Sony forum, I used to post an image of a gavel when I closed threads. I enjoyed it and integrated it even more into my posting style. So, I know what I'm doing. I don't post images with explicit swearing and mine are generally funny to the point where members see that I'm posting them in good spirits--just for humor's sake. Anyway, yeah, this thread should be put to rest. I can see why people would want to discuss the banning of older members but the way in which the thread was executed was terrible and unfair. Let's say that Sandy was banned for whatever reason. Would it be right for me to make a thread as his expense while he couldn't respond just so that I could kiss up to the moderators? The way in which Alex went out was negative and I think people should generally give him credit for the positive qualities he brought to the boards. Mitch wanted to get banned and he doesn't care. So, I don't think anyone needs to "pity" either of them, as silly as that sounds in the first place.

Interesting, most interesting.
Why do people always say this phrase here? Interesting, most interesting. Jesus H Christ, it sounds like bad dialogue from a kung fu movie. Thank goodness no one seems to say that in common conversation in real life. Sorry, I'm not trying to pick on you Gavin. Just--that--phrase. I rank it right up there with people signing their posts on my pet peeves list. Interesting most interesting. Gah. Anyway, yes onto the objection. I've been around the block a few times as a staff member and I've seen plenty of old members get banned. I've even seen people working on the staff get banned. There's nothing unbelievable about it that needs to be discussed. Although it's natural for the staff to be lenient towards older members who have contributed a lot to the community, they're not above the rules. I don't find this concept too complex. I do find the concept of dealing nothing but permanent bans a bit silly in retrospect, but it's just the way things are. Hopefully that form of punishment will evolve eventually to a system that allows temporary bans for situations like this. In any case, I think that this will teach members a valuable lesson about gimmick infringement. I post the pictures around here. But, whatever. I see this thread as a cowardly attempt to cast stones at someone who isn't able to respond. Let's be honest. That's what it is. Both Mitch and Alex were banned. Why create a thread just to gossip about them or insult either or them? It's very rude and you should find nicer ways to kiss up to the staff in the near future. In an ideal world though Sandy, you too would also hop aboard the "Banned Wagon."

The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty of 2005 (Nominations Thread)
Charles replied to Shy's topic in General Discussion
I would like to cast a pity vote for Lady Asphyxia. She is forced to wade through terrible fan fiction on daily basis. That alone makes her deserving of being nifty. And although she didn't receive the most votes on the boards, I say that quality matters over quantity. I also nominate myself because I do not have to post to be nifty. My backlog of posts contains enough niftiness to last about a decade or so. -

The room suddenly becomes quiet as a mammoth of a man enters. He is exactly seventy-two inches tall. His dark, brown hair is nineteen inches long. He weighs 220 lbs. He is a libra. His right arm is slightly longer than his left arm. He has exactly ten birth marks distributed over his body. His face is long and gaunt. He is wearing a red pull-over that he bought at Old Navy, blue jeans and white sneakers that were made in Taiwan. He has had a meatball sandwich for lunch along with a bowl of soup. Although the day was cold, this man known as Charles enjoyed the sunshine. He has no idea how he has stumbled into the strangest introduction thread he has ever seen, or why he is talking in the third person. He is spending an inordinate amount of his narrative on boring description which is never a good idea. His lips curl into a demonic smile as his eyes rest upon the newbie known as Jinn. Slowly he reaches into his pocket, and produces a small, rectangular business card that simply reads "Charles." The letters are printed in the font Times New Roman. They are size 12 point and bold. The card itself has a rough texture and it feels stiff to the touch. "Hi," he says. He surveys Jinn like hawk and swiftly moves to shake his hand like a gazelle. His eyes spin as he becomes entangled in his own cheesy figurative language. Tension stifles the atmosphere as this momentous introduction is made. He then opens the door, points Jinn toward it, and applies his foot to Jinn's rear-end. Jinn stumbles toward it, shimmering fangs and al,l like a cannonball cutting through the high seas. He stumbles for exactly five steps before exiting the room at which time Charles says "Outgoing!" He slams the door shut (which sends fifteen microscopic splinters flying into the air). He then locks it with a masterlock he acquired from Sears three years, two months, and six days ago to the moment. He paid three dollars for it plus tax. "That's for being weird," he says. He then unlocks the door, opens it, punches Jinn in the face, closes the door and secures it again. "Really weird," he says.
Well, first of all, your post quality needs some work. Some people here might be willing to make fun of you, not only because of your little crush but also because of the way you wrote it. I'm not one of those, though, so don't worry...just try to be more legible in the future, okay? =) Anyway, I kind of know how you feel about this. I really liked a character on Degrassi, Rick, even though it was just a TV show (but at least he was played by a real person and not drawn on paper). You probably don't *love* Kyo, really, but maybe you just really like his character and personality. He's probably more of a favorite character than obsessive crush. You just need to tell yourself that it's a drawing that isn't alive, and it won't ever be able to like you back. Maybe you should lay off the anime for a while, too.
Anyway, I've fallen desperately in love with Bulma from DragonBall Z. At one time I would draft nude sketches of her and sleep with the drawings by my side. Now, since I've matured, I simply intend to find a woman with blue hair to satisfy my lust.
