Keeping to tradition though Nintendo's selection for the DS is for a younger audience. Best Game Ending: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater I've never witnessed a better ending to a video game; it is concrete proof that video games can evoke just as much emotion as a film. Everything from the music to the visuals was just perfect. Kojima is a genius and everyone should experience this game. Worst Game Ending: Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver No spoiler tags necessary because there basically wasn't an ending. I thought this game was a fantastic way to cap off the Playstation's life-cycle. Some of the puzzles were questionable but the concept of switching between worlds was engrossing, the story was fantastically written and acted, and the game was a fine accomplishment but if that could have included an ending it would have been great. Thanks. [/end thread]

How the woman's body is used. [Mature Topic]
Charles replied to Citrus's topic in General Discussion
Either this thread is filled with people pretending to be righteous so they don't look bad at OtakuBoards (ohnoes!) or you're all on a very high moral high horse. I'm not ruling out either, but I know where my suspicions lie. [/size']
That's just what I was thinking. There are a lot of problems in the world worse than conventional porn. Furthermore, women aren't the only ones in porn movies and the market isn't entirely aimed at heterosexual men--so it doesn't make much sense to stir up a feminist fuss. The topic starter speaks as if there are no women who enjoy watching porn. I don't find porn to be a masculine evil, if that's what is being suggested by this thread. I do think it's unfortunate that anyone should become a porn star and I do not encourage it in any way, but at the same time I don't see porn as evil. But, I'm not a Puritan who hisses and crosses my fingers at porn like a lot of these people pretend to be. I mean, the original post just mentioned naked female bodies. If they were not involved in sexual acts--but simply naked, then what was viewed wasn't pornography at all. Playboy photographs, for example, are not pornographic. I think a lot of people here have a rigid definition as to what constitutes porn. The porn industry caters to society's demand for sexually-related entertainment. If anything, it has the potential to be funny and entertaining. And many women involved with porn falsly view it as a stepping stone to Hollywood and aren't exactly the Captain of Industry sort to begin with. Anyways: -
I'd say Call of Duty is really the only game on this list that I would stress that you go to several stores if you can't find a copy. It's amazing.
I've heard that Call of Duty 2 is awfully short and the multiplayer is terrible (which even the developers seem to admit). Are these issues for you? Judging by the impressions I've read, it may be better to just go ahead witht he PC version if you have a rig capable of running it.
Are you kidding me? That was the best move naughty dog made. Jak 2 and Jak 3 are some of my favorite games of all time. I loved the dark gritty feel of both. The shooting was a great addition and was well executed. Getting back on topic Shadow the Hedgehog as everyone said has terrible controls. Im sorry but I cant play a game with terrible controls. It completely takes you out of the experince.
No, I'm not kidding. I never played Jak 3 but Jak 2 was so tedious that it was painful to play. In fact, I had a chance to receive a free copy of Jak 2 after Sony sent me a demo disc that erased my memory card--and I never bothered. I much prefer Ratchet and Clank. Especially if you're talking about the shooting aspect. In any case, Jak 2 wasn't dark and gritty. Something like Manhunt--that's dark and gritty (although I find that game guilty of being appalling just for the sake of gaining attention too). Fatal Frame and Silent Hill are further examples of "dark and gritty." Forcing an emo attitude on mascot platform characters can't achieve that atmosphere. It was a transparent attempt to turn a 180 and capitalize on the apparent tastes of gamers after the successful Grand Theft Auto craze. What occured wasn't genius, just unimaginative marketing. That's the same thing Sega is doing with Shadow the Hedgehog. Sega isn't going back to the drawing board and fixing the laundry list of problems plaguing the current formula; they're simply trying to make their franchise seem more "hip" to the tastes of today's consumer with such an obvious ploy. I mean, why the heck does Shadow need to drive a car when he can run much faster? The entire scenario doesn't even make sense in the context of the Sonic universe. I would like to say that they've failed at manipulating people, but judging by the fact that people are even playing this game leads me to believe otherwise, unfortunately. Hopefully the sales are poor.
I'm not worried about the sonic franchise though. Next year, around the time of Playstation 3's release, Sonic Team is going to release "Sonic the Hedgehog." Yeah, that's the title, and it's a back to basics. Like what the 2D games where like but in 3D.
It basically looks like how the current generation Sonic games should have looked. Hopefully they find a way to finally make the game enjoyable in 3D at least. I thought the first Sonic Adventure was great when it came out but it hasn't aged well. Subsequently none of the newer Sonic games which use its engine are any good at all. As an aside, from what I've heard Shadow says things like "hell" and "damn." That of course, bothers me a lot because it's an additional way in which the developers tried to force the protagonist to adopt generic rage. It's a disturbing trend that seemed silly in the Jak series, almost ruined the Prince of Persia series, and stains what rubble remains of the Sonic legacy. It's so forced and artificial that it's completely ineffective.
Wow, so this game is really that bad? I have read a couple of reviews here and there, but I always kept hoping that perhaps the game wasn't actually as bad as they were saying it was. Glad I didn't buy it, I guess.
You can't be serious. Then again, I grew up with Sonic. I'm assuming a lot of you didn't. So, to be fair, it may be natural that your outlooks should be different. It's just that the moment I saw the first images of Shadow holding a realistic gun and driving a car--red alarm bells went off in my head. At first I thought it was a joke. When I learned that it was real I winced as a Sonic fan. I couldn't believe how low Sega had sunk. I knew that this game was going to be a soulless attempt to infuse the Sonic license with the "attitude" teenagers seem to like nowadays. I suppose we can all thank the Grand Theft Auto franchise for that. Instead I'll just put most of the blame on Sega being terrible and not giving their fans what they truly want--a real Sonic game. I just want a traditional Sonic game that properly utilizes the technology it's on. The closest thing we have to that right now is the portable series on GBA and Nintendo DS. As far as the console versions go, Sega needs to just sit back and develop a new engine that actually works for the series instead of using the ancient Dreamcast engine. We've seen successful 2D franchises brought into 3D. It's possible to give the Sonic franchise the same treatment without forcing a character full of generic rage upon us. It's really disgusting and I don't see how anyone could support this soulless marketing ploy by spending money on it. Please don't support this garbage. How could anyone even begin to think that Shadow the Hedgehog has a chance of being anything but terrible? Again, I say this as a person who grew up loving the Sonic games. Ah well, there's always the next generation Sonic title they've been showing off in brief clips--but I honestly don't think that looks like it's going to fix many of the problems the 3D incarnations are suffering from either. Sad, really. Sega has fallen a lot in my eyes. Instead of striving to be original, they've done quite the opposite and cheapened themselves.
First of all im not bisaed I own both a PSP and a DS. IMO the DS has much better software than the PSP. Im sure the PSP will catch up its still early. The advantage the PSP has over the DS is the wide range of stuff it could do. Music, Movies, and games are all in one. However to really get everything you need the $80 dollar memory stick. What im trying to say is both systems have their pros and cons. Saying one system sucks means your a biased noob. Look at both systems with an equal eye.
See, your first post was reasonable. So was your latest response I quoted above. But to say that ninety-percent of the games are "crap" and leave it at that is kind of silly. A system should always be judged by its best games. And, to be honest, both the DS and the PSP have their fair share of stinkers.

The NEW What OB members would you like to meet IRL?
Charles replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Damn, why oh why do I not learn? Always appropriately honour Charles... damnit. Charles: He is incredibly awesome and one of the funniest people at OB. If not the whole world. He is the introducer of the 'Bunny Pancake' image, and numerous other amusing pictures, which serve to enlighten us poor drones in the quickest and most forthright manner possible. He is the sun that lights my way, and the moon that I romance. James should resign, and make Charles the boss of OB. And Adam should start to work for him. All of these wonderful things coalesce into the great man that we know and love - Charles. The NEW What OB members would you like to meet IRL?
Charles replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
To sum all the others I don't have the time to write about: Boo, Charles, Danethol, DDG, DeathKnight, HC, liamc2, Mitch, Raiha, Sany, Shinmaru, Solo.
When I saw this thread, without clicking I immediately hoped to continue my tradition of chiming in and saying "die" for not mentioning me. So, gleefully I entered this discussion that I normally would not have. But, this time you (kind of) did mention me so that leaves me at a loss as to how I should proceed. Oh wait, you didn't take the time to write nice things about me and instead decided to cast me aside with the likes of Shinmaru, Raiha, and Heaven's Cloud, so--DIE! There. I'm happy. Thanks. Anyway, I want to make my post original. So, I'll say that I would like to meet James because he "seems really cool." -
You are idiots. Neither system "sucks." Save that nonsense for the school yards. I mean, why make a thread like this if you already have a preconception? When creating a thread like this you should remain completely objective. It seems as if all along you simply intended to start up the DS vs. PSP debates we've seen countless times. I'll outline the situation for those who may actually be seriously considering a purchase between the two. In reality, both systems have a wealth of quality games. Buy a PSP if you're interested in portable console-style games or the system's multimedia abilities. There are also some nice original titles coming along like Loco Roco. The Valkyrie Profile game looks beautiful too, if you're interested in RPGs. Additionally, titles like a near current generation quality Grand Theft Auto in portable format is a really attractive selling point if you're interested in that series. If "Me and My Katarmi" turns out all right, it'll be another reason to take the dive. Recently I've heard that the control issues aren't as problematic as they were first made out to be, so I remain optimistic. The DS on the other hand offers ample originality. The touch screen is starting to be used to good effect in games like" Kirby's Canvas Curse", "Trauma Center: Under the Knife" and the latter part of Phoenix Wright (which is one of the best portable games ever). You've also got all the successful Nintendo franchises to choose from and some fun, if not wholly original third party offerings, like Castlevania. I've also had a blast with "Advance Wars Dual Strike". The DS is absolutely perfect for strategy games. Obviously, you have the entire GameBoy Advance library to consider as well. Depending on how big your collection of GBA games, backwards compatibility could be very enticing. Both systems really deserve a fair share of praise. Whereas the PSP offers many multimedia capabilities that the DS does not, the DS is designed better. It's more durable and has a longer battery life. So, there's always a give-and-take between both. They each offer advantages and disadvantages over one another. And, as has been said here many times, each offers a different experience. I enjoy both very much. If you must decide between them consider whether durability or multimedia features are more important to you, along with the kinds of games you will prefer to play. Or get an N-Gage. Some of the games have been looking pretty nice lately.

I figured I would update this thread with the latest information going around.
According to UK magazine, NGC, Twilight Princess will still release on the GameCube. However, when the game is inserted into the Revolution (Nintendo's upcoming console), the game will unlock the ability to use the new controller, which operates in 3D space. It is unknown at this time whether the game will see a graphical upgrade when played on the Revolution, or if just the control scheme will change. In addition, NGC reports that the game is easily 100 hours long with plenty of sidequests to take on. They also state that Twilight Princess will release very close to the time when Revolution comes out. If this is true, then we may not see the GameCube game until Fall 2006. Keep in mind that all of this information has not been confirmed or denied by Nintendo.
I'm almost happier hearing that the game has some length to it than I am about the Revolution controller support. Wind Waker was really just too short which detracted from the epic feel of the quest. With this news combined with the recent rumors that the game will use a fully orchestrated soundtrack (instead of having it kick in for special moments), it seems that Nintendo has put the extra development time to good use.
Maybe you repressed the memory? I remember you making it, and it did seem a bit odd to me at the time. Dunno.
Nah, I see. I just noticed it's from 2003. That would explain a lot. Gah, for a second there I thought I was really losing it. I had accidentally looked at my last myOtaku update and thought I posted this thread this past October. I was ready to smack myself for advertising a DragonBall Z game. I think my gaming tastes have progressed a bit since then. In other news, DragonBall Z: Super Sonic Warriors 2 is out. I think the scary thing is that I have absolutely no memory of making this thread. What the hell was I thinking? lol! In retrospect, I would probably steer clear of any portable DragonBall Z fighting game. The console versions have a limited move set. I can only imagine what the portables play like.
-
I just rented this game and I love it, sure its hard to perform special moves but once you learn the game gets better. Anyway any of you played this game?
I have the game but the PSP's directional pad is not ideal for this sort of fighter. A lot of sliding motions are involved in performing abilities. So, the experience becomes soiled when you have a twenty-five percent chance of pulling off any given special move. Capcom fighters are usually fun because of their fluidity and intuitive control schemes. The directional pad puts quite a damper on all that. It's a shame too; there's really a lot of great content in the game that would have pleased fans.

Gaming Poll: Blinks the Time Sweeper OR Prince Of Persia
Charles replied to SilverAngelZero's topic in Noosphere
Who would win Blinks or the Prince?
Blinx is a terrible, terrible game. Even if this was a legitimate topic, it wouldn't be a legitimate topic. -
I'm surprised that no one has updated this thread with the specs that were released yesterday. Some light is finally being shed on what's under the hood. It's nothing surprising if you've been following the news but it's worth posting. This information is from IGN. If you're interested in reading it, visit their Revolution section.

Revolution is not being positioned as a competitor to either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. Nintendo has instead chosen to design a console that will be very affordable for consumers.
Revolution will build on GameCube's configuration of 24MBs 1T-SRAM and 16MBs D-RAM (40MBs) by adding an addition 64MBs of 1T-SRAM. The result is a supply of memory in Revolution that totals 104MBs. That number does not consider either the 512MBs of allegedly accessible (but hardly ideal) Flash RAM or the Hollywood GPU's on-board memory, said to be 3MBs by sources.
Revolution's Broadway CPU, developed by IBM, is an extension of the Gekko CPU in GameCube. The Hollywood GPU, meanwhile, is believed to be an extension of the Flipper GPU in GameCube. Since developers have not gone hands-on with the GPU, they can only go on Nintendo documentation, which is limited.
Exact clock rates were not disclosed, but one development source we spoke to had this to say of the Revolution CPU and GPU: "Basically, take a GameCube, double the clock rate of the CPU and GPU and you're done." The clock rates may not be quite double that of GameCube however.
"The CPU is the same as Gekko with one and a half to two times the performance and improved caching," said a source. "Our guys experimented with it and think they'll be able to get about twice the performance as GameCube."
Revolution discs can store 4.7GBs of data on a single layer or 8.5GBs when double-layered on a single-side. This is a massive jump from the 1.5GB capacity of GameCube discs and more than enough storage capacity for any non-high-definition game.
Nintendo is not interested in competing in the high-definition gaming arena, and as a standard-definition console, Revolution is more than capable. Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remains one of the most gorgeous games this generation and it ran on GameCube, a console at least half as powerful according to developer reports.
Every developer was in agreement that Revolution should launch with a price tag of $149 or lower. Some speculated that based on the tech, a $99 price point would not be out of the question.
All in all, I'd say that this is mostly good news. I know that a lot of people are likely to criticize the system for being underpowered but it's important to remember that without dedicating system resrouces towards high definition gaming, a system with double the power of the GameCube is probably capable of games that look comparably good to much of what we're seeing on Xbox 360. I'm sure that it will be capable of producing a lot of the latest shader techniques too, so there's not too much to worry about considering their goal.
-
Yeah, nice thinking but I don't know myself. I have never seen this feature implemented anywhere before so I don't know if it is possible. Regardless, the first post introduces a topic but subsequent posts develop the topic. A few pages in and the discussion may have potentially matured past what the original post was talking about, and yet, everything is still on topic. I've noticed that in a good discussion people often go far beyond what was originally introduced. This is just my opinion, but when people begin to go off-topic it can just as easily be because they read maybe the first three posts in a five page thread and just decided to throw their two cents in. Sometimes they also pick out a certain aspect of someone's post and focus on that instead of the topic, thus derailing it.
-
Especially since Sony had those same franchises going for them this generation and the Xbox still ended up doing well. Consider that we've seen very little or nothing of how any of those three games are going to play, and it's obvious that two of them are irrelevant.

Gaming Do You Think Sex Should be on Video Games?
Charles replied to serenayasha's topic in Noosphere
I do think it shouldn't because thats just wrong and pluse ewwwwwwww. i can understand violnce because everyone loves to see violnce. Sex is going to far with it if you like that kind of stuff go rent/buy some porn, but for the rest of us dont put it on there.
Please, don't take this the wrong way. I honestly don't want to seem nasty but I must ask this: How old are you? Nine? I treat sex in video games just as I do in movies: if it serves a purpose in the plot, then I don't see how it's a problem. In God of War for example, David Jaffe included the sex mini game to further define Kratos's animalistic character. It didn't disrupt the game or seem out of place. Games are as much a part of culture as films in today's society. Games aimed towards adults should be able to include adult themes. So, the question here should be the opposite. Can anyone tell me why sex shouldn't be allowed in games? An argument more descriptive than "eeeeeeeeeew" would be much appreciated. -
I'd agree with the fact that the 360 really isn't that great or impressive (especially without an HDTV)
I guess that all depends. If you have a really powerful gaming rig then I'm sure it won't be very impressive. But, aside from its ugly character models, I found Perfect Dark Zero to be extremely impressive from a visual standpoint. The textures, lighting and particle effects are far beyond what the current generation of systems can do. Even the gun models are super realistic. Kameo is impressive too for the very same technical reasons. Once we get past these first generation games and we see software that uses advanced geometry on top of all this, then we'll see a really big difference which will hopefully affect how games play too. Right now you really shouldn't be concerned with how the games look (because as I said, they look great). You should be hoping that they offer a better playing experience than what we've seen before. So far my main gripe is that any of these games could be done on a last generation console--just with worse graphics. Also, lately I've been thinking about getting an HDTV to get the most out of everything but I should mention that the games are impressive on a standard television also.
I'm sorry if you mentioned this before... but you got it for free??? o.O -ArV
Every10minutes.com I actually got it a few days before launch. Not a bad deal.
Of course, there are those people blinded to think that 360 is awesome, no matter what facts are thrown at them. For those, the 360 might be good, but for me, and hopefully other people, it didn't do as well as expected. I am sure at least a few people like anime games, which XBox almost rarely has. That, is where Microsoft fails. My feelings towards Microsoft entering the gaming industry will never change, until more anime games come out, but that's just my opinion.
1) The Xbox 360 is pretty awesome. Again, I wouldn't have been an early adopter if I hadn't received the thing for free, but the system's design is impressive. The GUI, for example, is excellent; the options you have at hand are insane. They've definitely done well with media integration and the console definitely has potential down the road. 2) Most games based on anime are juvenile and terrible. In any case, I'm somewhat surprised to find you complaining about anime-based games when titles such as Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero have adopted anime-inspired character designs in a trend that will probably continue since they're trying to gain popularity in Japan.
I'm wondering why the last two posts expressing shock over what the mayor said are even there, when Tony's enlightening and intelligent post is just above them.
Gee, thanks for ignoring mine Baron! Anyway, sometimes I just want to give people here a big box of tissues. Especially when the economy of people within our own country is suffering because of crooked hiring policies. It's as if some of you are saying "Who cares if the jobs in New Orleans are being stolen, the mayor is so insensitive towards Mexicans!" And, for the record, being hispanic doesn't quality you as closely tied to the Mexican heritage. That's not to say that you aren't, but merely saying that you're "hispanic" doesn't cut it.
