Oh, please, Charles, you act like I'm saying Budokai 3 is the be all to end all.
No I'm not and that's the problem. I'm just stressing how good a game has to be at this juncture of the year in order for me to even consider it. Being "insanely fun" for a short time just isn't good enough. I just so happen to think that the Budokai 2 proved that the developers have exhausted their potential in terms of fundamentals and that I can get the same mindless DBZ-oriented fun out of the GBA Super Sonic Warriors if I so choose (for a lower price). Different strokes for different folks.
Actually, Chuck, this installment looks to have more promise than the first. The graphics are better than ever, there are more ways to lay the smackdown, and there's Brolli [And I swear, the next time someone spells it Broly or Brolly, they gonna get served.] to make things interesting. The teleport and the constant draining of energy gives us some depth. We can finally dash backwards instead of that lame-*** hop, and it seems, from what I've heard, the "mass destruction" scene changes are back. Of course, the damage could be more progressive [getting hit with a Final Flash and your clothes get all torn up, you bleed some more'], the standard ki blasts could be changed and more adaptive, although it looks like you can do four-shot barrages now.
The so-called "improvements" you're offering as examples are very mundane. New characters. Slightly (notice the emphasis on the word "slightly") refined graphics. Inconsequential new techniques that will do little to remedy the lack of depth in the move lists themselves. New background cinematics. It's just all run-of-the-mill, standard fare you'd expect to see. I'm not a huge fan of the genre myself, but if you look at the current market of fighters you'll notice that these minor tweaks just aren't enough to compete. They just pale in comparison to the excellent online play we're beginning to see and unique new directions other games are starting to take. This wouldn't be such a problem if the engine itself was even in their league to begin with. And I have news for you. Brolly will play identically to every other character--only with different special abilities. That's the way this series has always been. Too awkward and straightforward for my tastes.
The game has ability, I just wish they would make the move executions a little more complicated and not as rigid. Sure, it's mostly a kid's game, but eh. Kids today are smart. In any case, Charlie my man, you're gonna have to get Budokai 3, so you can fight my radically and insanely strong Brolli.
I'd rather you chose a game with real online play if you really want to get me interested. Let's face it--the original Virtua Fighter 4 already implemented a feature like the one you go on to describe--and how long ago was that? haha I'll bet you that it's more representative of a person's technique too, considering how these DBZ fighters are strictly button mashers that require little skill. You're obviously a huge fan so of course it's easy for you to warm up to this game and I won't try to convince you otherwise. I on the other hand, having already picked up the new Paper Mario and GTA (with other games like Halo and MGS3 on the horizon) would rather forego something like DBZ for the new Metroid if I just had to have another game.

In my opinion, this thread seems most appropriate for Anime Lounge, so I'll move it. The attention that section would receive it with would probably be more more beneficial to the thread starter.
I sent a PM to James, but Im not sure if he checks his PM's. But anyways, when anyone who can do this has time, I was wondering if I could get my name changed to "Epitome." So whenever possible if someone could do this, that would be very gracious. Thank you.
Sometimes it takes us a while to make the appropriate changes. Anyway, it's done.

The situation has been explained sufficiently. The fact that Dagger and other moderators are willing to take the time to fully explain and justify their reasoning demonstrates not only their respect for the membership in general but also the serious amount of thought they put into their decisions. There's nothing arbitrary in their actions; precedence and experience are often motives. Bearing that in mind, it's not only against the rules to attack other members in general--but to blatantly disrespect a staff member who has taken the time and effort not only to correct your mistake but to explain it to you thoroughly--that's not cool. No one is forcing you to agree with Dagger and her moderation methods but it's only appropriate that you should show some courtesy and acknowledge the attention you've been shown, Yami. You should definitely private message Dagger with an apology. That is, if you've got any character to you at all. Edit: Haha it seems that my perceptiveness has been dulled after being away from here so much. I hadn't realized how old the original posts were. Oh well, an apology would be better late than never if it has not already taken place.
It's fun for a couple of days. That's really about it, because it wears out its novelty rather quickly.
I agree. I thought this one was a lot of fun initially but the lack of unlockable tracks or any real depth cut this one off at the knees. It's purely a party game. At least it's given me reason to have a set of bongos in my possession for Jungle Beat though. Anyway, I particularly enjoyed your commentary, Sciros. It's one of those times where I fall into agreement with you regarding a video game and it holds the same mystique as an eclipse.

There won't be much reason to bother with this one unless you're a hardcore fan. At this point in the life cycle of the current generation of consoles, the gameplay engine behind this franchise is really suffering in comparison to the plethora of quality games literally saturating the holiday market. The first title had potential but the second proved to me that the developers aren't very ambitious in terms of remedying the limited direction of the fighting. Sure, fans such as myself can appreciate the animation behind the special moves, but the dial-up method of performing them and their cinematic nature become boring rather quickly. Again, don't bother unless you're a rabid fan of the series or are just interested in wasting money on the same old tripe.

Every game on here is terrible with the exception of the two Mortal Kombat titles. Primal Rage has always suffered; even during its prime it was considered clumsy and awkward. The only reason it thrived as it did was because of the technology and gore. Now that time has weathered down those attractions, it's left with little else. Pit Fighter is atrocious; it's purely a button masher with no substance and even less animation. Its only use is serving as an ancient artifact, a demonstration of the roots of digitized graphics. Outside the fighters, everything is repetitious and without substance. Rampage? NARC? Gauntlet 2 with infinite respawn? No thank you. Hard Drivin'? Unplayable. Anyone interested in this should just track down a ten dollar copy of Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Glitches and all, it's a far better bargain.
And I also remember when dayday was banned [/font']
Oh yeah, I think I perform said banning. Yes, that was a good ban. I'd like to think that it alone is contribution enough to earn me a much-coveted spot alongside the various other "older members" people clamor about with such fervor when there's nothing else to talk about.
For the love of whatever, if it bother's you don't read it
That would be practical advice had the thread title not been somewhat misleading in the first place. Anyway, I don't want to totally derail this discussion, so yeah. It's good to know that you've recovered from this incident. At least you didn't hit a deer or some other formidable opponent for your vehicle. My brother suffered through an experience like that and the results are both physically and psychologically disasterous.
I understand that accidents happen, but I don't agree with trying to rid yourself of guilt by having people profess their stories of situations similar to your own in this case. The majority of people who kill animals while driving just aren't paying attention, and I'm willing to bet that was the case for you, despite the fact that you claim otherwise. Furthermore, making a thread under the guise of needing help for your stomach-wrenching emotional distress caused by the incident makes me want to punch you in the face. Looks to me like a bunch of people trying to be morbid while being completely insensitive to the subject. It's not cool. I'm sure if I ran over your daughter, ChibiHorsewoman, I wouldn't create a topic with a to talk about it.
Before people jump all over you, I just want to say that you've pretty much put your finger on exactly what was bothering me. Accidentally hitting an animal is one thing, but making folly of it disturbs me. It's not something I'd go around and brag about as it were.
-
This image I've constructed accurately illustrates my feelings on the subject. It's just amusing when you actually have a tangible representation of the subject matter people are entertaining. I myself am very sentimental when it comes to harming animals, accidentally or otherwise. Like children, they're in a position of pure innocence, but we're hardly talking about animal abuse here. I certainly don't find any amusement on the subject of running down hapless creatures. So, I can only respond by saying "Hey, what can you do." :shrugs:

I'm going to close this thread because you said
twat.
I'm sorry, but it annoys me to a great degree when people use vulgar language like that in a discussion that's so apparent to younger members. Although the use of language has become more free in certain areas of the boards (but still checked by careful guidelines), OtakuBoards, in general, has operated around the same basic set of principles for years now. I guess that's why I'm so taken back when I see something like this. Anyway, the subject matter doesn't exactly have room for continuation anyway. Cut-and-dry situation, I'd say.

I would just like to point out that this is the reason why many children rebel against authority with irrational behavior of their own. There's nothing worse than parents whose trust in their children is so fragile that they choose to believe a simple form of mainstream entertainment is going to completely undercut their kids' grasp on human values. That shows a lot of insecurity on their part, I think. If they were confident in their parenting, they wouldn't suffer from an intense paranoia that tells them a simple video game holds more influence than their guidance. Perhaps instead of sending you away for correction, she should arrange for family counseling because it appears to me that she knows nothing about you and has problems of her own that need attention.

I suggest renting both before you make a purchase (unless you've made your decision already). I never bothered purchasing Fable, but I've played my friend's copy and based on what I've seen so far, the replay value isn't as non-existent as some people would have you believe. Although it's possible to blast right through the game, there's quite a bit to do in the way of distractions that'll extent the time of your first play-through. For example, experimenting with combat and NPC interaction can be pretty darn enjoyable. When you factor in the differences possible based on your behavior, this is a game worth going through twice. That definitely doesn't mean I'm favoring it as a choice, but let's be fair here. These are two entirely separate games; they don't even belong in the same genre. So, comparing their scores on Gamespot is moot. This all comes down to your preference in gaming experiences right now. Do you feel like playing an RPG or an online shooter? Personally, I'd just wait for Knights of the Old Republic II. You know, seeing as how it's a combination of these things (i.e., Star Wars + role-playing)/

Whatever you do, don't challenge them to dance. Because, if you do, and you outdance them--it's on. Anyway, I'm closing this thread. Not only did I have to perform massive editing upon the original post because of the abusive language--my eyes have also been forced to endure "quality" responses that use phrases like "retards." Get with the program, everyone.

The 32-bit generation probably suffered the greatest lack of timeless games because of the withered state of the three dimensional graphics and the emphasis on detached cinematic gameplay. Metal Gear Solid is a perfect example of this description. Some games, although ugly by today's standards (at least in my opinion), like Mario 64 and Goldeneye withstand their dated technology simply because they're both revolutionary and enjoyable to play. I wouldn't place Goldeneye in the coveted status of "timeless" though, simply because very little games in its genre could be referred to as such. Don't get me wrong, anyone who knows anything about my preferences knows that I love Goldeneye, but I think the genre it belongs to mostly relies on features and effective controls rather than "magical" design. I consider most of the games Semjaza mentioned, timeless. All of the original Nintendo versions hold up incredibly well and I still enjoy playing both Pac Man and Tetris. I've put a good deal of time into both at Group Sounds, and hold the high score for Pac Man, as a matter of fact. :D Other games that come to mind are the Mega Man games. I bought the collection when it came out and I enjoyed it thoroughly. At no time did I feel like I was compromising my tastes to suit what I was playing. The Street Fighter games are another good example. I'm not rushing out to purchase that respective collection, but I'd say even those games compare favorably to current fighters. The balance between the characters has never been desirable, but it just "feels right." I can't go without mentioning the original Punch-Out. I originally bought Animal Crossing just for the purpose of playing it. One would think a game based on simple patterns and reflexes would grow boring and tedious, but I could literally play it forever without tiring of it. The 16-bit Sonic the Hedgehog titles deserve to be brought up; they're superior to most platformers of today--especially the next generation Sonic titles. They still look extremely colorful, fast, and the level design is terrific.
Final Fantasy VII!!!! 'Nuff said.
No, that's not enough. Please everyone, if you're going to reply at least put a bit of effort into your posts. The quality, or lack thereof I've seen in this thread has me somewhat concerned. Anyway, I'm happy because for the first time in weeks I'll have some free-time this week. Recently, I've been going from school to work with little time in-between. Because a new employee is starting this week and others are resuming their hours, my schedule has been reduced somewhat. Although I regret that I won't make as much money, I'm thankful for the relief. My birthday is the 23rd, as well, by the way. My golden birthday.

When discussing doubt being cast on the game, the primary fault with raising an example such as Wind Waker is that you're comparing a reliable company to a mediocre one, as it were. Concerning Zelda, hardcore fans could find solace in the fact that whether they agreed with the new direction or not, they could hold confidence in knowing that the developers decided on the artistic standpoint they did for the good of the product. I'm not writing this game off entirely but I have no reason to anticipate it either. That's where I stand on the issue. Square Enix finally seems to be taking advantage of the Final Fantasy VII cash cow but they're at least three years too late to hold my interest with spin-off value. Vincent is a genuinely intriguing character whose plot has serious potential, so I'm glad reality has coincided with the rumors as far as their choice in dedicating a game to him goes. But, I wish they would just go ahead and deliver the remake everyone wants instead. At least that way we'd have a more pronounced understanding of what exactly happened with the characters in that game to begin with.

Ive been thinking about this lately
Charles replied to Random Fan Girl's topic in General Discussion
One thing to do, in my opinion, is going to a therapist. [/b']I've seen people over the internet try to get advice online; that's not going to help you, or it wouldn't help me.
I've seen countless topics like this on OtakuBoards and I've come to the conclusion that your best option is seeking a more intimate form of help. Although it's possible to derive some comfort from Internet advice, situations as serious as this one demand attention from family and professional counsel. From here, the basic message found in many of these responses can only be echoed repeatedly. You've made a basic first step by reaching out in some form, now take the next step and get qualified help so you may together really examine your depression. That's the only way you'll find a lasting solution here. I'm sure not trying to be heartless in closing this, but the comfort you find here will not be the true crutch you need. Then again, you could be sharing the very same feelings many teens must endure as part of the growing process. It's something that should not go un-examined in your personal life. -
It's obvious that this thread is ridiculous. Regardless of whether or not this situation holds any truth, it's obvious that one should not respond to bullying with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. It's not as if you're disliked because of some obscure personality quirk--you nearly killed someone! Why the hell would you need to ask how you can get people to like you? The answer is simple--don't go upside their heads with random objects. Having said that, the quality of these replies and the nature of this topic itself are just unacceptable. Not only do I find your ill-concieved story completely unbelievable, I feel that the subject matter just has no relevance to this site. So, to answer your original question--you can win over my affection my posting well instead of posting--well, nonsense.
